I used the guide below. Instead of formatting as ext2, I did ext4. Everything works rather well.

I don't think it failed. Once you add the partition, make sure you mark it active. Put it into the phone and reboot. Then recreate the mount scripts in link2sd and choose ext4. Reboot again and should be good. Partition master will say it's other when connected, that's just what it does...

No, I found a fix by following that guide. You must be missing a step or glancing over something, or doing something otherwise incorrectly that would cause this to happen. A case of PEBCAK I'm afraid

Ok. So I fixed my phone thanks to you guys. But now, after I downloaded a few apps, nothing is Installing onto my phone. Does anybody have any idea what's wrong with my phone? And I have Cyanogen, if I updated it, will it fix it?
You are just full of questions, aren't you. Well of course they are not installing to your phone if you are using a ext partion and apps2sd, then they install on, say it with me.....your sd card.
Sorry I am a little sarcistic when I just wake up

Hahaha... lol... I don't get it.
Can you explain? They were installing at first but now they won't.
I was being a smartass since you said........oh nevermind..... so when you say they don't install, give more info, is it.a problem parsing the package, are they downloading? If they are not d/l than log out of gtalk and sign back in, that seems to be the common answer for that or just reboot your phone

Is it possible than your ext partion corrupted somehow, you could always try a wipe and a reflash of your rom or repartion your sd, honestly I never had this issue and hence not sure of a possible card and have not seen any posts of anyone else to give me any plausible ideas
LOL this thread is funny but anyway have you tried using cyanogen post about Market download freeze? I think that's what you are talking about
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539780
hope it helps!
I thought that was what he was talking about at first but after reading cyanogen thread, the problem in the thread is when the download is not downloading it just hangs when it goes to download unlike the op's problem where they are not installing
Sounds like a faulty sd card. Could need to be repartitioned or simply wipe your ext2/3, someone here give this kind man the commands to do so in recovery.

Won't work.
What do you mean won't work? What happened when you typed it in? If you got a error then A) You mistyped or B) Your card wasn't properly partitioned before.
Honestly bud you seem to not totally grasp alot of this which is fine because it is alot to learn but you may need to just wipe your rom and format your card then repartition it double checking everything, and type print after you do the 2 partitions it will show you how many partitions you have.
Aren't these threads the greatest. Hey it won't work or what's wrong with my phone? People need to give the most details they can and what they have tried to do to resolve the issue.

Nook Simple Touch 1.1.2 and rooting

Hi everyone. I'm a long time computer builder/hacker and am just getting into the Nook Simple Touch and rooting. I see that 1.1.2 just came out.
-Should I update to that firmware and them root?
-Will current rooting techniques work with the new firmware?
-Is it possible and easy to unroot?
Thanks in advance for your help. I have done some searching but am having trouble finding the answers and dont want to waste even more time. I hope you understand and I can't wait to get into this rooting thing!

The update incorporates wifi fixes that can be useful if you use it on the road, or suffer a router that v1.1.0 had problems with. I'd recommend it, yes. I haven't seen any downside.

Yes. I did a complete wipe on mine running v1.1.0, updated to v1.1.2 and used the normal TouchNooter 2.1.31 process. Everything worked exactly as it did on v1.1.0, including having to wait 24 hours for the Market to activate.

I just made a point of following Gabrial's instructions in the first post, and everything went smoothly. If you have reasonable expectations, the NST rooted is a great little device. I think you'll be pleased.
[EDIT: Since writing this, I began having problems searching in the Android Market. I rolled back to B&N v1.1.0 and re-rooted, and STILL am having that problem. I don't know why this only started recently, and I do not think it's related to v1.1.2, but I wanted to post it here as fair warning. Also, after rooting using TN, the device info screen showed 1.1.0 after having updated to 1.1.2. I'm changing my recommendation to "do it if you're having wifi issues" for now.]
Thank you for such a wonderful and detailed post. My micro SD card should be here tomorrow and I cant wait to root it. I have a gmail account but not a youtube. Is it imperative to link gmail and youtube to root this? I would post in that thread, but as a new user i have to wait for 10 posts to do that. Thanks!
Wonderful. Since I had a mishap when screwing with framework-res.apk, I am going to do a full wipe. This is cool!

YouTube and Gmail are linked -- or at least can be. Go to YT in your desktop browser, and you should be able to sign in using your Gmail credentials. (Google is assimilating EVERYTHING!)
You do need to link to Google for Market functionality, so yes, you probably do need to do it in practical terms.

The "8 failed boot" process should let you reload the default firmware your unit shipped with if you need to get out of a bootloop situation.
Just a reminder that a FULL IMAGE BACKUP is strongly recommended before you start monkeying with too much, ideally on Day One. Unlike other NOOK devices, you can badly, if not permanently, screw up a NST if you wipe out some system information. Be sure to read through the various threads before going too far!
So I should restore my nook to factory? Will that do anything to the partitions?

If you're stuck, it's an option. My understanding is that:
The "8 failed boots" procedure will restore the firmware your NST shipped with.
The "Unregister and Wipe" procedure from settings will wipe all user data off the internal system.
I was not able to manually update from v1.1.0 to v1.1.2 if previously rooted. Not sure if that's normal, but I had a lot of cruft on my unit, so just did both procedures. Files on my uSD were untouched.
I'm following your guide and see that making a backup is recommended. I would post in that forum, but as a new user here, i am not allowed to there. they say to follow these instructions:
BACKUP/RESTORE N2E Win7
Grab a copy of Roadkil's free DiskImager for backup and restore.
and a copy of free MiniTool Partition Wizard at:
Boot nook with noogie.img : nookdevs.com/NookTouch_Rootin (the "Rooted Forever" screen) and connect to your computer via USB.
Use DiskImager to copy your Nook partition to a file, being sure to select "Physical Disk" in the drop down list.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142983
However when i follow this step I get to a link that doesn't work. Thus I cannot backup my nook:
Boot nook with noogie.img
Any ideas? Thanks. Again, I'd post the link that wont work but the damn forum wont let me post outside links until i do 8 more posts. This is frustrating as HELL. But you should be able to find out what my problem is from the details i am so kindly allowed to post.
Or maybe I shouldnt bother backing up, since as another user pointed out, after a few failed boots it automatically will store its original firmware. What do you guys think?
You need to be sure that you use a program to write noogie.img to an SD card (I'll post a link to one when I have time), and be sure that you do not write the image to the SD card when it is in the Nook! You need to use an external card reader. After that, you just turn your Nook off, put the SD card into your Nook, and turn the Nook on.
Thanks guys for taking time to make these posts. This should help me in figuring all this stuff out.
so do i need to root the nook BEFORE backing it up? isnt that what noogie.img does?
A quick update: There do seem to be some annoyances if using existing TouchNooter versions to root B&N 1.1.2. If you haven't already done so, and aren't suffering from the wireless issue, you might hold off a bit until the exact implications are better known.
If you've already done it, it shouldn't be the end of the world either.

No. Noogie just exposes the normally inaccessible NOOK partitions so you can back them up. Noogies doesn't root anything. It's recommended to make a backup of your pristine device BEFORE rooting, in case anything goes wrong.
Thanks! How do i get noogie.img? the link on the backup page doesn't work and I dont want to get the wrong version. Any idea how long it takes for the next rooting version to come out?

It does look like the download link to noogie.img.gz is broken, even on the redirected Nook Devs page.
Yeah, that article is removed. Does anyone have a noogie.img they can slap in dropbox public?
Man, they dont make this easy. The direction suck, links aren't working, sheesh. Unlocking the original iPhone was easier! I sure hope this gets updated somewhat soon.
I have noogie.img somewhere on my PC, I'll get it uploaded in about an hour.
Thanks, i hope you can find that file. Since the directions are so vague, do i need a special program to put the file onto an SD card? Or just drag and drop? Thanks. I really hope to get this completed soon.

hi bobstro,
i tried restoring my backup to my nook to update it to 1.1.2. i followed everything as said in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142983
but after the restore process, my nook still has the android but it is as it was in the beginning, i mean like a fresh rooted nook(all apps gone).
is this supposed to happen? is it ok, if i update my nook with android in it?

Resolved USB OTG support issue
Resolved a USB On The Go support issue that prevented Moto G from writing data to a connected USB storage device.
Fixed voice call volume issue
Fixed an issue where the volume of voice calls heard through the device earpiece could gradually become too low.

Can you please check if unmounting works good? There's an option under Settings/Storage but using it always results in a persistent notification saying something like 'USB storage removed. Please insert new media'. Unplugging the USB drive without unmounting results in an error too!

I would check with Total File Commander and see if it exists. Meanwhile can you say how your USB drive is formatted ? I mean the file system ?

So the problem does exist in all variants. I was reading through Moto X forums earlier and it has the same bug too
Here´s another new thing, new values were added. Personally I´m glad that
there´s now 0,25x option because it solves the problem with dialer and 0,5x was too much for me.
Edit: sorry, missed Gravitybox silent tweak.
Just bumping this up.
Edit: @cesc1972
Just thought you might want to edit the title of your post to something more specific - add date or system version, because I feel it didn´t get as much attention as it deserves.
Also, besides the OTG fix there´s seems to be an improvement in radio, which was brought to attention by @lost101 in his thread:

I mean if you don´t use any transition effects (I always diasable them, no reason to deliberately slow down the UI), the dialer or phone app behaves like this: when you start it (and it wasn´t already running in the background), what you see by default are the contacts. If you tap dialpad icon on the bottom, dialpad won´t start just the icon disappears and you have to tap two more times to show the dialpad. You can remove this behaviour when you set transition effects to something more than 0x. On previous builds, minimal value was 0,5x which was far too much for me. Now with this new patch there is 0,25x option as well which is acceptable. But the dialpad bug is still there when you turn transitions off.

Guide - How to get out of "stuck at boot animation"

Its now all over the development section where people are trying custom ROM and getting stuck at infinite bootanimation loop.
This, as explained by famous developer dhacker29, the f2fs file system is very sensitive and gets easily corrupted. This results in stuck at bootanimation.
Presenting the solution – One time, shut it all and noob friendly
Common steps
1) From your working ROM, copy all your sd card data somewhere safe (PC, pendrive etc)
2) Backup all your apps (you can use titanium back up or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1581653)
3) Download stock firmware for all those “what if it goes wrong” issues.
4) Install drivers for Motorola devices
5) Download your favourite ROM
6) Install minimum adb and fastboot
7) Install TWRP (official support is now available)
The geek method
8) Format /system, /data and /data/media (I strictly mean format as simple wipes won’t do)
9) Now sideload your rom file
a. Advance in TWRP
b. ADB sideload and swipe to start
c. Connect to computer where you have installed drivers and adb
d. Start cmd and type adb devices – it should show your device
e. Now side load by typing adb sideload drive letter:\where\your\rom\rom.zip
10) Reboot to recovery
11) Now install ROM as normal
12) Wipe cache and dalvik and reboot
Non Geek method
8) Install stock firmware for your respective device using fastboot (there are tutorials that have the batch file which installs the firmware automatically by simply clicking the batch file)
9) Install TWRP recovery
10 ) copy ROM zip file and flash
Everyone is now requested to use the guide, help me improve it ans stop flooding dev section with same question over and over again.
Alternate Method : Noob Friendly.
First of all backup your sd card (i.e data/media)
Flash Philz Touch 6.26.6 Recovery
Hope you have OTG cable and a pendrive.
Copy the rom which you want to install on pendrive. Attach pendrive through OTG.
(backup your current rom on usbdisk. For this goto Backup and Storage. Find option backup on storage/usbdisk :good: )
Now, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset. It will ask Wipe to install new rom,tap on it. Say Yes.
After that goto Mounts and Storage and format /data and /data/media (/sdcard). Say Yes.
Done.
Now flash your favorite custom rom.
Select the option install from sdcard. Then select usbdisk. Select your custom rom and install it

Quickest way I think is to take a USB Drive and attach it through an OTG-Cable, then use ES File Explorer to copy all things to it..
Connecting to a PC through USB takes more time due to some limitations there...
UST OTG works good.. :good:
You can use WiFi Direct maybe..

OK cool ty
I just bought a 64 GB (but actually 58.86 GB when I looked in storage settings) so I'm going to try this method either tonight or tomorrow night - the alternative method as I have philz recovery installed

Oh man..!
I was one of the first people who started facing this issue...
That time, 2 months back, I couldn't figure what to do...
So, I installed Stock GB Firmware (link in my signature)..
Finally, we've got a method to fix that..
I've been away of this forum for quite a lot of time now..
Good to see such development coming in.. :good:

Yeah... Lots of people were having the same problem. Sadly, most people choose to not to search before posting same issue again and again.
But i still hope this guide helps other. This should probably be sticky.
sorry for no feedback yet. I am waiting on next build of ROM as this version has a boot problem

When I searched for the issue, I found nothing on it...And I had no idea how to fix it..
I thought to make a thread about the problem but didn't had enough time in those days..
I thought someone will eventually report the problem..
I think flashing the RetailGB firmware helped because it formatted the internal memory...

Thanks for the guide bud.

what version of TWRP are you using? only the official version or the teamex version has OTG support

TWRP - Can't Mount, internal Storage 0MB

So I wanted to install Blackball's Genesis ROM on my AL00 P10+. Unlocked bootloader just fine, installed TWRP, which appeared to work OK as well. When I boot into TWRP though (and I tried various versions already); I can't do much. Internal Storage is not recognized, shown as 0MB (SD card storage is recognized though). I can't mount anything other than my SD card, Wiping anything just gives error messages about being unable to mount xyz. Backup screen shows me no partitions to back up.
Things I have already tried from searching other threads:
- fastboot format userdata (command not allowed)
- Set a PIN in settings (never being asked for it in TWRP as I supposedly should be)
- advanced Wipe, change file system (already all on ext4, no effect)
- Switch off any encryption (switched off TrustSpace with no effect, nothing else found)
Any hint on where else to look or how to facilitate debugging my issue would be much appreciated!
Did you tried to install the rom in twrp?
Did you format data in twrp so you can see the internal storage.
Before doing anything,do a backup in twrp at least for oeminfo.
No, I never get to the point of installing anything and I have nothing to select for backup. How would I go about formatting?

Now I am getting a lot of failed to mount /dev/block/platform/ff3b0000 - will research and check in the ROM thread on this.
Thanks again!

All ROM is not support for AL00.
You should convert AL00 to L29.

According to https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10-plus/development/rom-fromfuture-genesis-b150-t3617126 AL00 is supported with the right datafiles. Or am I missing something?

Thanks a lot! I have Blackball looking at the problem in the ROM thread now. If he can't resolve it, I'll do that. Thank you!
Just to wrap this up for now: I did rebrand to L29 via funkyhuawei, found a TWRP that could read my filesystems (from https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/development/testers-twrp-t3585256 ). Now I get Error 7 installing any ROM. No idea why. I went back to original AL00.
Any attempts to just root the device have failed as well.
From some other threads, there is some indication that my EMMC storage causes problems with some TWRPs. Most devices purchased in Europe have UFS and are therefore not affected.
Right now, I am keeping my eyes out for a TWRP that may work with my device.
