My Pure has gotten really crappy lately.
Out of nowhere, the phone takes forever to complete tasks. It took 3 minutes to open a contact to dial. It took 2 minutes to get to dial a number completely, and another 45 seconds before pushing the talk would start dialing on the network. It took me 30 seconds to open up SPB Insight. Another minute to open up Opera browser. Took 5 minutes to open up the Messaging app to try and text. Etc...
Also, it seems to not want to show me whose calling half of the time. It just plays my ringtone and the signal meter has the image of a phone on top of the bars.
I have not installed any new applications on the system in over a week. I don't have all that much installed anyway. I try to keep data on the sd card. I emptied out all messages and still no speedier.
What can be done to defrag or something to help this POS work better?
Thanks!
try a hard reset. thats what i would do.

are you using a stock rom or custom rom? i use energy roms and they all have pim backup cooked in. im sure if you just do a little looking around you will find a few different backup apps. ill see if i cant find the cab on my comp for sprite.
check this out. it will even re-install your apps for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582421&highlight=backup+app
stock rom is in use.
Yeah that application for backing up didn't work whatsoever. When it started up it went ape-crap with errors. Downloaded an update, same thing.
Any other ideas to keep from losing all of the settings, programs, etc, before hard-resetting?
yeah, lookup pim backup or sprite backup. some ppl like spb backup but i think it might cost a few bucks. im sure there are some around xda if you look, or just google those i just told you about.
Silly Question
Did you try a soft reset first before you leap to a hard reset? Just wanted to make sure as I saw no mention of simply soft reseting...

i was asuming he has already done that.
About 15 soft-resets a day with the occasional forced pulling out of the battery because it literally hangs for 5 minutes with the screen seemingly locked up waiting on something to open or close...
Just hard-reset the dang thing. Still as slow as ever. HTC has let me down for the second time.
You need to install a good task manager and find out what is running in the background.
what would be a good, free task manager to try?
Try sashimi for restorals. PIM back up is not for programs.
Well I did a hard-reset and it didn't resolve anything whatsoever. Must be device related.
But since it's bricked sort of, anyone have advice on a good, liteweight ROM to use on HTC Pure? May as well try to do that for the first time, since I'll have a replacement in a few days.
I like very little about ATT's ROM. Slim would be great.

if you are getting a warranty replacement i wouldnt flash a rom unless you want to flash it back to all stock b4 you send it in. if its insurance go ahead and flash away.
Guess I'll wait. Out of all the threads here on the matter, can anyone recommend a good thread for how to go through the steps required to get a Stock PURE flashed to another ROM?
Want to do it the easiest and best way possible.

So i've had my G2 for a few weeks now and it has started acting weird.
I have done nothing to it besides installing some apps, from the play store not from anywhere else.
But now it has started lagging MASIVELY, sometimes i can't even come past the lockscreen, and sometimes the lockscreen is not even there.
Also when i try to type a message or something it starts the massive lag, i have no diea why since i've jsut used it as it is, taking photos and using instagram/facebook/snapchat, no gaming or anything else.
Also, notifications comes after the real message i get, vibration comes on 15 seconds before.
It also heats up when it is in my pocket and drains the battery.
This usually happends when i open up facebook messenger, but i can't uninstall it since i find it necessary to have.
If anyone could i reply, i would be higly gratefull!
@RomWiz I dont know why all those things are happening to you but, you can try to wipe cache,dalvik-cache and flash dorimanx kernel and or switch to another stock based rom.
If you wanna stay stock I suggest to go to settings and see how much the apps are using your memory. Facebook is syncing the whole time so its really an battery drainer. On full stock I also cant suggest much what to do since I never had that phone.
I hope that someone else with real g2 experience could help you more with your issue, goodluck with your problem and I hope you can fix it soon.:good:

How could i wipe dalvik on the stock rom?
And i've had it for a few weeks, and i see no one else complaining about this lag on the G2, so i don't know why this is happening.
tried rebooting?
also check the battery stats in the settings see if it shows what's draining battery, that's most likely causing all the system hogging

I may also think that it has to do something with the thermal throttling of LG stock rom.
The only way to wipe it is in an custom recovery without wiping all your data.
I did a factory reset and it seems to be fixed now, but who knows.
Maby in a few weeks it'll start again.
@RomWiz alrigh have fun with your phone if it happens again I suggest to maybe flash an modified stock rom or the g3 rom port with dorimanx kernel.
Hey, I have The Samsung Galaxy S5 for a year and a half now. For about the past 9 months, the phone would trigger random reboots but they wouldn't be a full reboot. What I mean by this is that the phone would not ask me for my SIM card pin as it would do whenever I'd restart or reboot the phone manually. Also when I boot it into recovery mode, a dead droid icon comes up right before showing up the recovery mode screen.
I have tried the following:
Clearing cache
Factory Formatting
Reflashing OS/ROM
Running Safe Mode
Running the phone clean
Running without SD card
And running without SD card and clean
This is really annoying and a reply and possible help would be really helpful.
P.s. I have tried going to my operator and the phone was sent away and 'repaired' but this problem is still persistent.
Hello Dude!
In my opinion this sounds like a hardware, not a software problem. Does your CPU/GPU heat up often/fast? This could happen an overload and than your phone reboots. Furthermore, did you overclocked your phone in any way? I got the same problem after doing that. More possible reasons I can't imagine.
If you have some questions, ask me

Hey, I actually don't really overclock phones which I use (I only do it with ones that are a spare and something to mess around with. Also no it doesn't tend to heat up on me at all actually. It restarted 3 times in space of 30 minutes this morning by simply watching youtube. The resets are random and can happen at any state of the phone.
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.

I think only Samsung or a new phone will solve this problem.

Hello,
Been struggling a lot with my battery drain since I bought my 6t.
I am unrooted and now with 9.0.7, I already uninstalled a lot of apps to try and locate the root cause for my battery drain. I never had social apps which I know can misbehave a lot.
I have location, nfc, etc always turned off, battery optimisation settings always on.
I installed better battery settings and what you see is during my sleep, and the phone drained a lot once more.
Another issue I am having is that each time the phone reboots the find my device is activated even after I set it to not do anything.
I need help though, I quite do not understand what I should do now.
What is my problem? What can I do to achieve the crazy screen on time some of you have? More, I would be happy to just solve the screen off battery drain. One day I had over 40% drain without using the phone more than 5 minutes.
Can someone please help me out?

The problem is that you messed up your stock Rom in the process of unrooting. My best advice is to root your phone again and back up everything with Titanium Backup. After that, use MSM download to return to stock ( The same software state you had it in when you first bought it). I can assure you that the hardware is fine, but misbehaving software will only cause more harm to your phone. No one will provide you with a simple fix like a flashable zip and dont panic because its not that big of a deal. I bricked my 6t right after misreading instructions, but it recovered and its heavily modded. Go back to stock and start over

I came up with that answer without checking those screenshots, but now its obvious. By unrooted, do you mean you had root and then unrooted or havent attempted anything? The other thing is obvious, your battery is draining because of google play services. I had the same problem, but i removed my gapps because i use better app alternatives that dont require google play services. The other thing is i use services though my browser than having a separate app for everything. I find it safer and i use Brave browser.

You probably got it right, I already had twrp installed but since it was not working I went back to stock. How did you figure that out?
I might need some help to do as you said since I do not want to brick the phone. What if i do a factory reset? Will it cure the problem?

A factory reset wont really fix the issue, but you could always give it a try if you backup your precious files first. The problem that i am currently facing on my device is that i cant port Google Camera. I realized that it doesnt work without google play services, but i am not going to start over from stock just to get one app (Doing so fixes everything, but there is a workaround). I am planning on Deodexing my stock ROM and installing MicroG. Its really difficult to find easy instructions , but i gotta challenge myself. Anyways, in your case you just need to give the MSM Download Tool a try, its normally used to unbrick devices and return them to stock. You can always use it in case you mess up your software to the point where flashable zips only cause more issues.

Accessed stock recovery, made a factory reset from there by erasing everything. In about 11 hours the phone used almost 20% battery and no screen on time! Just standing there the whole time. I think I really need to do something, will try that tool you pointed.
No chance of bricking right?
Regards
tried it, it gives me a sahara communication failed. not sure what should I do now.
EDIT: I remember better now. when I got the phone it was on 9.0.4, I updated to 9.0.5. Then I side loaded the temporary and somewhat "compatible" TWRP which I used to flash Magisk. not sure why but root checker said I was not rooted and since an official TWRPO seemed to be far I decided to lock the bootloader (this gave me the official recovery back).
Do you think this is what is causing me the battery drain? everything is working properly to the exception of battery drain.
ANOTHER EDIT: decided to contact oneplus directly and explained the situation (even mentioned I had twrp and that I flashed magisk. they asked me to send the phone so they will see if this is hardware problem or software. not sure if they are going to charge me or not but I think it is unfair to charge (lets wait and see).
Can anyone help me figure out how to solve this problem assuming this is a software issue? I would pretty much like to avoid shipping the phone, never had good experiences with these rma assistance in the past.
Hi Cesar,
Hentai already suggested you how your problem could be solved
Cheers

The mistake you are committing is this: having installed BBS, you should have taken an idle dump (as described in the OP of the BBS thread) and posted it in the BBS thread asking for help. Screenshots won't help.
Google Play Services by itself rarely drains battery on Oreo and especially Pie. All the apps go through Play Services for their requirements and if there is a misbehaving app, instead of finding it, people blame Play Services (I am not a fanboy of Google).
EDIT: Having said that, I just checked your screenshots. BBS is not functioning properly and the readings are skewed. Which version are you running? From your battery history screenshots, I see that you seem to have about 2% per hour drain. At best it can be brought down to 0.5%. Uninstall BBS, reboot and reinstall it. Let us see whether this time it runs properly.

Nicee!! What firmware version?
I noticed that every time i disconnect the cable when phone is fully charged after few minutes the percentage drops to 98 and few minutes late to 95 and then is more more longer time to drop to 94 and become Solid the discharge.. Someone know what i can do for fix this issue
I am still in 9.0.7.
I think that drain right after disconnection from the charger also happened to me but not sure how it is now after my "cleaning" ! Before when it was draining a lot I had it for sure but the phone was always sucking battery.

First thing i'd try if it was mine, if you haven't already, is a factory reset. Between Googles backup and Samsungs backup you can get it pretty much back the way you had it before resetting. I always make sure to do a fresh backup using both Google and Samsung first. Then Factory reset. Full restore using google when system asks which backup you want to use, use the latest one you just made of course, then restart and do the Samsung restore through Samsung cloud on top of Googles. I usually get all apps and Data restored without missing much. Home screens and widgets are restored. It's almost like i didn't do a reset at all. If it's still Laggy, then factory reset again and don't restore it. See how it works then. That way you're not restoring any App or setting that could've been causing your issue. It looks like you've been around here about 10 years so this all may be nothing new to you, but this is how i would do it.
Factory reset doesn't seem to help according to reports about rhis update.
Okay well flash in Odin and use CSC to perform a full wipe on the device... See if you still have the same issue. Consider Frija or Samfirm
People report it's something to do with the WiFi drivers, try switching it off and use mobile data to see if it persists

i dont really want to use the factory reset option because you wont know which app causing the problem.
im trying disabling app by app. so far i guess theres also something wrong with the fingerprint driver. i have a feeling the lagging always starts with fingerprint then it causes the whole system lagging and freezing.
maybe the optimize battery usage feature is way too aggressive? it freezes the fingerprint service while system tries to wake it up then it causes an endless loop and end up with a memory leak?? just blindly guessing so pls correct me if am wrong.

Workaround for this is to switch off WiFi as there is some problems with the WiFi certificates.
Use Mobile data for the internet connection and you will not face any laggyness or issues.

BTW people with problem, do you remember in developer options if there was before this update option to enable hardware acceleration for modem?
Could you for test try disable that option and reboot phone, or enable if it was disabled...just a hunch..

I was hesitant about applying the new update for the May patch because of all the issues everybody with reporting. I've had this update applied for about 4 hours now and so far there's no issues at all. I wonder if it's affecting every device or just a few. Anyone know if the updated fix has rolled out to unlocked Canadian devices?
