Hi all Using smart switch I see a huge updates (almost 2Gb). I've a rooted s7e.
Is it safe update it?
thanks for help!
Any official update will unroot your device and you will go back to stock kernel, recovery etc. Afterwards, you will have to re-root and install recovery. Knox counter will remain the same. There is no root 'safe' official update.

Hello.
I rooted my S5 when I first got it simply to use the volume boost mod. A week ago I decided to unroot so I can OTA update, ready for when major updates to the firmware on the phone are released. Anyway. An updated firmware became available so I tried to OTA update (not really expecting it to work) and got the "Modified firmware such and such" error come up. Obviously, rooting the S5 is different from the S3 due to the addition of Knox to the latest firmware, so I've got a few questions to ask.
Is there any way at the moment to reset Knox?
Does Knox stop you from being able to get OTA updates, even if you use TriangleAway to reset the flash counter?
Also. I checked today in Kies and it let me update my firmware but I didn't proceed with it because I'm worried about it bricking my device. I actually unrooted using SuperSU and checked the status of root afterwards using a Root Checker, which said I'm not rooted. Is it safe then to use Kies to install updates to the firmware instead of using OTA updates or will that brick my device?

- Triangle Away doesn`t work with the S5 and neither us it possible to reset the KNOX flag
- Unroot with the Towelroot or superSU app (wich ever you have installed)
- Flash a stock rom (firmware)
- Data factory reset in recovery after the flash
- Done and now you can update with Kies/OTA.
A week ago, my OTA update failed. Have Towelroot and supersu. No other modifications. Failure message said I should use Kies since my phone is modified in an unauthorized way. In order to update and either retain Towelroot through it, OR unroot through supersu, update either OTA or with Kies and then reroot with Towelroot, would the following work:
I have a SM-G900F.
1) I unroot with supersu. I remove Titanium and supersu.
2) I try to update with either an OTA approach or Kies.
3) If update is successful, I reroot with Towelroot and reinstall supersu and Titanium.
Would this work? Would removing root with supersu make me be able to do an OTA update or is Kies inevitable? And after a possible successful update, will Towelrooting still work, or does the most recent Android update (I currently am still 4.2.2) render Towelroot unusable after updating.
Any help much appreciated.

Dude forget about OTA`s when you are rooted, install Mobile Odin Pro and just flash the new rom with MOP and you`ll keep root. Don`t use a wipe or it will fail.

Sorry, but that's just waay too advanced for me. I don't know what flashing a rom means, I just want the most recent update that came out (at least for Europe) a week ago and be able to have root, that's it. Does unrooting, updating to new version with Kies, then rerooting with Towelroot work? Please can somebody just tell me if that can do it or how to do it? I know I'm a noob, sorry, just need real advice.
please.....somebody put me out of my misery. help?

Just download the stock firmware and flash with Kies or Odin. It's not too complex.
To obtain the latest firmware for your device, open Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > 'Firmware Browser' menu.
my samsung galaxy s5 , is rooted but I would like to upgrade, I can't do the OTA upgrade so I should proceed with Kies , I would like to know whether I have to unroot my phone(how do I do that? via kies?)or just directly proceed with the upgrade, furthermore, my phone was a sumsung galaxy s5 tmobile but I managed to unlock it in order to use it with other carriers, if I install the original firmware and then upgrade to the newest version, can I still use it with other carriers or will return locked? thank you
So I sold my buddy the note 3. It was rooted so I flashed a 4.42 stock firmware back on, knox is already tripped. Apparently there's an update for the device and the msg when he tries to update is software has been modified. I download root checker and it is indeed no rooted. Any ideas?
Because knox has been tripped to 0x1, that phone can never updated via ota or the samsung app. You must now download a updated stock rom, or some other fancy rom. Untill someone can fix knox back to 0x0... This is the only way to upgrade.
Experienced this running stock rom and all (recovery, boot etc). But knox is already 0x1. When i was running XTC (Philippine stock kk rom) i get the message about modified software when checking with ota. But when I use XSG(is the csc correct for Singapore?) And try to do an ota it downloaded the update without a problem.
Heres what you can do use triangle away to reset thr binary recovery to official then flash stock rom and see if you can do an ota without any problems.
Hi, i have a i9505 and had rooted it while it was on android 4.4, i have just unrooted it via the option in supersu and updated to kitkat via kies, i am coming up to selling this phone soon and realised that when i try to update via OTA even on kitkat its still showing the phone as custom and saying that ota cant work because the phones been modified.
How do i fix that and get it back to official? if i install kitkat via odin will that force it to be official?
Thanks
James
You can still go back to stock, even though you are unrooted you still have customized firmware and binaries. Use odin flash a fresh stock kitkat and it should be good as new.
Thank You
Can we get OTA updates through custom recovery in such a method?
Get OTA files from an unrooted S5 when it's ready to OTA and flash it to a rooted S5 through the custom recovery?
Is there a way to get the OTA files?
I have a rooted S5 and I just used Kies and it installed the update with no data loss for me ******still back it up***** Then I just reinstalled a custom recovery and SuperSU binaries to root.
I think you cant since stock rom OTA needs a stock recovery
Not only a stock recovery but also unrooting the phone.
Samsung OTA must do a rom check is quite annoying, while Huawei's OTA does not check whether you rom is modified but the files to be updated.
