Try performing a hard factory reset on your device but wipe the cache partition in the Recovery Mode menu first.

Here is the guide on how to do that:
Download Odin http://odindownload.com/ and extract it to a directory you can easily find.
Head to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and search for the firmware of your phone using the model number. Make sure that the firmware model number matches that of your device.
Once found, download it to your computer and extract its contents to a directory you can easily access.
Navigate through the directory where you extracted Odin and run it as administrator.
Now turn off your Samsung android device and boot it in Download Mode (press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power keys together). You will know if you’re in Download mode as you’ll be seeing “Downloading… Do not turn off target.”
You may now connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable.
Odin should be able to detect your device, otherwise, you need to install necessary drivers. Which you can get from http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000117
Click on the PDA or AP button (depending on the version of Odin you’re using) and navigate through the directory where you extracted the contents of the firmware file you downloaded.
Look for the .md5 file and select it.
Now, click on Start button to begin the flashing. (DO NOT disconnect, turn off or use your Samsung device while the process is ongoing.) Now let it alone and do something else while the firmware is installing onto your device.
If the flashing is successful, you should see “RESET” or “PASS” on Odin interface (depending on the version you’re using). The phone should reboot by itself after that.
Go through the set up process but don't set it up properly. Turn off your device and boot it into Recovery Mode. Wipe the cache partition, wipe data/factory reset and reboot system now.
You can now setup you Samsung device properly using your Google/Samsung Account details.

Nope, if you follow my guide on how to install the stock firmware back onto your device. It will restore it to stock as if it was just fresh of the factory floor with the latest firmware installed on it. If you want root access you will have to root your device yourself. As I don't like doing that with any of my android devices, unless I have too. So I don't provide advice on how to do that.

Strangely this was happening sometimes on a Marshmallow custom rom by eRobot as well. It must be something to do with marshmallow. Sometimes it still happens but when I press the power button shortly few times, the problem disappears. After flashing the latest version of eRobot Rom, it has been happening a lot less and it is okay without removing the battery. Just need to give a little time between power button presses...

I tried below but my phone is struck at intital logo Samsung galaxy S4 screen its not turning on.
Install and run Chainfire's TRIANGLE AWAY (I9505 ONLY, I9500 is NOT SUPPORTED YET)
NOTE: There is an option "System modified workaround", please tick this and restart your phone. Device Status should be back to OFFICIAL!! Use it with caution!!
Next few steps are ONLY for people who couldn't reset it with Triangle Away...
1. Reboot into Download Mode and check if Binary & System are OFFICIAL.
2. Only if the BINARY Status is still Custom, download and extract OFFICIAL STATUS MOD(.tar.md5): GT-I9500 or GT-I9505 - open in Odin as PDA (password: djembey2013)
3. In some cases FACTORY DATA RESET (Phone Settings=>Accounts=>Backup & reset =>Factory Data Reset) is required to reset Device Status.
You probably just need to do a factory reset. If the Odin flash was successful, simply boot into recovery (volume up+home+power) delete user data. reboot.
not working
still struck on samething no progress after logo
need serious help

Why do you start messing with your phone when you have no idea what you are doing? Thats just dumb.

Download Samsung Kies,
Go to tools and click firmware upgrade and initialization
If you have 9505 type in Model: GT-I9505 If you have 9500 type in Model: GT-9500
Now it will ask your S/N Number. If you cannot boot to android then pull out the battery and there must be S/N Number (NOT Battery S/N)
If you can boot to android, then go to Settings, touch more then scroll down find and touch about device, then touch status, scroll down and see the serial number
type it in Kies
Then follow instruction from kies
you must boot to download mode first (you can do this with: turn off the device then press Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button and then if you release it and press volume up to continue it)
not working
When i tried got error saying GT-I9505 does not support intializing

Kies won't work because you have a custom rom installed.
Why dont you just flash a custom rom in the recovery?
1. Do a factory reset in recovery. Wipe system/data/cache.
2. Flash a custom rom.
3. Boot.
It's as simple as that.
Or do you want to flash a stock rom? If so, make sure you flash a knox disabled stock rom.

I'm sure you can get it running with odin. Download Odin ver 3.07. Download the stock mh6 firmware from sammobile.com. it's a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from it. Use that file in odin, PDA slot. Only have auto-reboot checked in Odin.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) - Rooting failed (Odin stuck), need to recover

Hi all,
So I've decided to root my Exynos International Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root. All went well until Odin got stuck at cache.img, then fails after a couple of minutes. I unplug the phone and restart it, it then displays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" whenever I try to boot. I can access download mode again, but not recovery. My phone is stock 4.2.2.
It's the first time I have such a problem, I flashed a couple of phones before without any trouble. I searched XDA for a solution and tried other Odin versions, different cable/ports, even tried on another computer: Same issue. Stuck at cache.img. I can't get my phone to work again. Some people suggested it might have something to do with USB debugging, but I can't remember if I left it enabled or disabled.
I didn't back any of my data (I didn't expect the root to fail...) and retrieving my phone, rooted or not, is of the utmost importance. Please avoid posting solutions that involve data loss.
Feel free to ask about anything I might have left out.
Thanks!

I think you'll have to flash an official Sammy Firmware to get past the error, although if you look in the Note 3 Android Development, I recall seeing some deodexed, rooted firmware that is supposed to work from Odin. Not sure if any of them are for exynos version though.
Data? I keep everything I can on the extSD for exactly this reason. You should be able to remove the card and put it in a card caddy and read it in a PC and copy out your media etc. The root process shouldn't have overwritten anything you need.
For rooting, maybe DL the SuperSU zip file Chainfire's website and flash it in Recovery once you're up and running? I use TWRP but Philz or CWM recoveries will do it.

I see. So in newbie terms, if I flash the official firmware I have from SamMobile, I should have my phone back running with all my apps & data? Also, any hint about why rooting didn't work in the first place?
After this tragic experience with Odin, I'm gonna forget root for now, maybe update to Lollipop then think about rooting again.
Thanks for replying !

Did the official firmware work when you did it? If so, download Phone INFO Samsung from Play and use it to check what hardware you actually have.
I have had issues with CF-Auto root recently so I flash Stock, then the TWRP md5 file (in Odin 3.09) then I boot into Recovery and flash SuperSU. That gives me Recovery and root. You normally have to run SuperSU when you start so it can update.
U[pdating to LP is a good idea - most of the things going on in Dev are now LP versions.

I didn't flash the official firmware ever. Before trying to root with Odin and getting it stuck, I never flashed or modified anything internally on this phone.
Obviously, I can't use Phone INFO because my phone is stuck at BSOD.
I will upgrade to Lollipop, once I can get my phone working as it was. For now I'm still hesitating to flash the official firmware. I don't know if that would wipe the apps or just get back the phone as it was.

It will wipe Apps and Data - it makes your phone like you just bought it.
I didn't realise it was stuck in that mode - just thought that happened whenever you tried to flash something.
First thing. Turn phone off. Take back off and remove battery for 10 secs or so. Turn it on holding down Vol Down + Home + Power - release when DL screen shows and press Vol Down. If that gets you into the phone, spend some time saving your data to extSD.
I use Call Logs Backup & Restore, SMS Backup & Restore, I export my Contacts to ext storage. I use TiBu to backup all my apps to a folder on extSDCard. If you are on Stock ROM, you should be able to set your camera to save to extSDCard but you need a file explorer (I use ES File Explorer) to copy your current DCIM folder across - other than that, look for music, documents and video folders on internal memory)
If it doesn't open the phone for you, & your data is important, take card out and use adapter to save data onto a computer.
Go to Sammobile and download the proper official firmware for your phone - note you need to set up a free account before you can DL.
Download Odin 3.09 Run Odin
Then repeat the phone process but this time press Vol Up when at the DL screen. It is important to have the phone Off and electrically flat before attempting a firmware update.
Connect phone to PC - Odin should recognise it. If it doesn't you probably need the Samsung USB Drivers so get them and install them.
Then connect phone again. Click AP and find your DL from Sammobile. Wait for it to load then press Start. Wait... it will reboot and usually sits on the logo for quite some time.
Set up your phone, and restore or reinstall your apps.

Thank you, I just tried going into download mode and pressing vol down, still get the same BSOD. I guess that means phone cannot be recovered as it is...
I'm backing up my stuff now. I have no problem backing up contacts/SMS/etc.., but can you tell me whether I can still back up applications and restore them as they were using Titanium Backup on PC ? I know this should have been done before even soft-bricking my phone, but since it inaccessible to run the app on it...
I already have the official firmware waiting to be installed, just need to be sure about TiBU and that I backed up everything correctly Thanks for answering !

That depends... TiBu can only recover what you've saved (obvious I know...) and only if it didn't get wiped in the new firmware flash. (which it will if you didn't choose extSDCard for the backups)
Other than that, once your phone is set up and your Google account active, Play Store will DL all your apps.

Unfortunately it's a Play Store app, so first you have to get your phone working.
You could try the attached from Recovery but I have no idea if it would work as it's from my rooted CM12.1 system.

The only other thing I can think of would be using ADB over USB but I don't know if that would work with DL mode or if it is only for Recovery. You'd have to search and learn how to use it.
So maybe time to just get the phone working and make sure for future you have backups?

SOLVED. I can't believe how easy it was. I was about to flash it over from scratch but then it struck me.
Chainfire ships Odin with all its root bundles, a version where you cannot untick "Auto Reboot". Because of Auto Reboot being ticked, Odin freezes at "cache.img". It might not freeze for some people but for me, having Auto Reboot activated causes the freeze
Downloading a different version of Odin (any version, I used 3.09) that allows changing parameters and LEAVING EVERYTHING UNTICKED BUT F. RESET TIME works like a charm.
Don't forget to reboot your phone after Odin displays PASS or RESET (Long press power).
I'm going to PM Chainfire about this, and tell a max of people about it.
Thank you for your support
EDIT: Also going to NANDroid my phone. I'm tired of panicking over failed roots

1. Download one firmware with android 5.0.1 (no more android 4.3) of Sammobile.
2. Unzip and flash the .md5 with ODIN 3.09 unticking Auto-reboot (like in the pic attached).
3. Wait till the process finish (PASS with green). Turn off your device manually (taking out the battery for example), reboot in Recovery MODE and select wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache too. Reboot and let your device boot.
4. Add screenshot if you receive more errors.

Is it flashed? stock to stock

Hey, I bought a phone from a guy, note 3, great phone, however I'm paranoid that there would be some tracking software that came with the phone. I found the only way to be sure is to flash it to another ROM.
I like stock, so i was trying to flash from stock 5.0 to stock 5.0
I downloaded a few tester apps, CPU-Z to just verify the device, then I went and downloaded Odin 3.10.7 and the stock rom.
followed these instructions:
Used Odin 3.10.7 , loaded tar.md5
start
and when it came back up the tester apps were still there. I thought it was going to create a clean stock.
Did I do something wrong or am I doing this wrong?
checked the versions before and after?

Did ODIN show success message? and didn't you check the versions in About Phone?
the version before is the same as the version after. I'm basically flashing the same rom onto the same rom.
I was under the impression that it would force a clean install and remove any apps that were already on there. If you flash the same rom onto the same rom will it remove the apps?
I don't remember what Odin said. I think it said success? (i'm retrying the same process now, will report when done), the phone rebooted to to the normal screen so i thought it was done....
edit: It says Pass in Odin

for clarity, i followed these instructions:
Install Odin on your computer and launch it.
Switch your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 off and boot it in Download mode: press and hold Volume Down, Power and Home buttons together. When connected successfully, you will get a message in Odin saying Added!!. (In case you don’t get it, try another USB port. If that doesn’t help either, then re-install USB drivers).
In Odin make sure that the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time check boxes are the only options checked and nothing else is.
Click on PDA on Odin, locate the .tar.md5 file and hit the Start button to initiate the update process.
When official update installation is successfully completed, on Odin ID:COM will turn green and Odin will show you a PASS message.

Flash again the firmware doesn't delete anything. Only you need a factory reset:
1. Open Settings menu.
2. Go to Accounts tab.
3. Tap on the ‘Backup and Restore’ option.
4. Optionally you can uncheck ‘Automatic restore’ and ‘Back up my data’ options.
5. Now tap on ‘Factory data reset’.
6. Press ‘Reset Device’ option. Press Continue.
7. Next, press ‘Delete All’ to confirm process.
8. Done.
isn't there some security software that would survive the wipe like that; like cerberus or Wheres My Droid?

Factory reset: It removes all USER DATA and restores the device back to factory setting. User data is defined as apps, call logs, contacts, and anything else the user has placed in the devices memory. Stuff that is on the SDCARD is not affected by a factory reset. A factory reset really only deals with the Data and the Cache partitions.
if you really want a clean system, flash a custom recovery and goto recovery and wipe /system, /data, /cache and then follow the odin process.
Even if you factory reset the phone by the settings menu, the /system partition remains intact, the apps in /system will still be there.
Also the odin process just flashes the new content, it doesn't cleans the previous data (this is the reason of that tester app still present).
Hope this is what you were looking for
thanks, i was trying to be lazy but i guess i'll do that. its a gift so wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any risk for the person.
appreciate the assist.

Broken screen - need to do a data wipe

My N910F had a terminal accident this evening, it received a blow to the screen and now there's no way fo me to use it. I tried to use google's remote device app to wipe it and though I'd managed it. But I'm not sure that it has!
I was running a custom rom with twrp and when I tried a button combo that's supposed to initiate a wipe, I noticed something pop up on the screen and when I connected it to my pc I could not only see the phone on windows explorer, it actually showed the files! From one of the very few times I saw something on the screen, I recognized the TWRP homescreen, so it had been put into recovery!
I'm not bothered about putting the phone back to stock, I just want to wipe it so I can sell it for parts. I can't do anything in KIES as it's locked (fingerprint with password backup). I cant even try using a usb mouse with my otg as whenever I disconnect from the pc, the screen goes off (it's rarely even showing anything anyway.
Is there any way to just install stock firmware or even my rom, directly through odin? I'm used to flashing roms through twrp.

If the emmc is still sane, u can try stock with odin - google 4 files repair firmware for your model. Not a custom rom, it need the custom recovery which seems not to work anymore.

I tried to flash it with 2 different versions of odin, 3.09 which is what I always used to use and 3.12.3 as this seemed the most recent. Ran with and without admin privilege and got a fail every time.
I've gone back onto the Sammobile site to download another version of the firmware but it's sooooo slow - when did they slow things down so much??
Is there likely to be any difference between the versions of the firmware? I'm running a N910F here in the uk. But at the end of the day, all I want to do is to wipe my personal data by flashing any stock N910F rom
So I managed to get through the flashing process but it doesn't appear to have worked! The device still shows up as it was before I tried flashing it - I repeated the process but still nothing.
I need to remove any data before I can try and sell it - what do you suggest?
Any suggestions guys? Sorry to bump an old thread but I never did get it sorted. I'm running an LG V20 now but would like to be sure that the N910 is wiped clean of any and all personal data before selling it.
USB debugging isn't active so I can't do anything with adb - I've tried lots of options.
Flash stock bootloader
start phone in recovery mode (vol up + home buttons)
press down 4 (3) times to select factory reset (5 (4) for cache wipe) and press power depend on bootloader factory reset is 4-th or 5-th option
press down 7 times and then power again.
But why to bother of it if it is finger and password protected?
Another option is to sell me the board, my emmc chip just died. I'm in UK too.

I'll give that a try, but I don't know how I'd find out if it had been successful?
I'd rather not risk someone being able to access ALL the info on there for the money I'd get for it on ebay.

No personal files when connected to PC should be enough.

Another option go to repair shop and ask them to wipe it with their test display. Display removal (with its full destruction) will be required.

Thanks for jumping in!
"Should"? I wouldn't want to risk someone recovering my personal data.

But that would involve me paying - I won't get much for the phone as it is anyway.
I finally managed to flash the phone back to stock with Odin! :highfive:
It was last on N910FXXS1DQFA so I tried Odin v3.10.7 and flashed N910FXXS1DQE91 with no issues. Obviously, nothing of note shows up on the pc, but when I click on the device in windows explorer and look up the properties, it shows the new firmware is installed!
So, FINALLY, my Note 4 is fully wiped and I can try and sell it for spares - thanks a lot for any and all input and comments guys! :good::good:

For my knowledge user data is wiped out by odin only if you tick "NAND erase all" but I'm not sure if it is not wiping some other important data like EFS partition. When phone is connected to PC try unlock it with the finger. Another possibility is that by downgrading you have corrupted EFS partition, but not sure of that.
