Hello. Regarding my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=68019329#post68019329
I was searching for but I was not able to find how to update my android on A501 from 3.2 to newest one, so I have recently rooted and installed this A500 ROM with new android to my A501 device. It works well, but I was wondering if my 3G will be still working? As A500 doesnt have GSM function, so i was thinking maybe the firmware doesnt also have this option as well.
thank you.

I just purchased a new Iconia Tab A500 16G version. It came with Android 3.01. I have yet to setup a WiFi connection for home use. So I won't get OTA upgrades until I do. I started reading messages trying to figure out how to upgrade from 3.01 to 3.1 and finally 3.2. I looked at my "About" tab and found this info:
Kernel: 2.6.36.3-00001-944a8bac and Build: Acer_A500_1.145.09_COM_GEN1. Where do I need to go from here? Exactly what do I need to download and install? I have a Netgear Dual Router(2.4G and 5.0G) and a USB "N" stick. I just need to find the driver for the USB stick. Or download then from Netgear. While I work on that, can someone please tell me exactly what I need in the way of software? Considering what build I already have, what do I need to get me to Android 3.1 and 3.2? Or do I need to go that road? I know I can't get to 3.2 from 3.01. So please, someone - I'd really appreciate a little schooling.

Your tablet already has a WiFi adapter built-in, so you can toss aside the USB "N" stick. You can use the "Settings" app where the top choice is for "Wireless and networks". You should be able to muddle through setting up your wireless network, assuming that you have already set up the Netgear router with an SSID, protocol, and password. This will put you on the road to an OTA (over-the-air) update of your A500. Once you've connected to the web you can register your A500 and set up Gmail, etc.

That don't need to do anything - just set up the wifi connection and you should be automatically notified of the available updates. Bear in mind that you can't root the 3.2 that comes OTA.

hello,
I just bought a acer a500 tab.
I can connect at mcdonalds.
However when I try it at home using my linksys wrt610n it wont connect.
My wifi shows up but wont connect. I am using the correct password and I even tried it open unsecured still wont connect.
I tried reset button several times even when it was connecting.
It has been suggested to change channels but dont that didnt help on the wrt610n router. I am beginning to think the acer a500 and my linksys wrt610n router are not compatible>? Do you think if I go somewhere that has wifi that I can connect to and let it update from 3.0 to 3.2 it will help>? I have not put anything on the new acer a500 tab yet so should I try to do a factory reset?
edit: upon more searching I see that some have used the linksys wrt610n router with the acer 500a tab with little or no problerms.
I am very confussed because it works at mcdonalds so not sure if the problem is with router or acer?
So should I try the factory restore or return it for a refund because bestbuy dont have the acer 500a tab in stock any longer??
I would appreciate any help please..
thankyou, Dan
Why don't you root it and bring it upto the current 3.2.1 software. Then install the wifi fix if updating to 3.2.1 didn't help. Running such an old and buggy version of the OS will cause problems like your experiencing.

I would but if I root it then wont that void the warranty and I wont be able to return it>? What if I just go somewhere where I can get a wifi connection and let it update on its own?
thanks for the reply cruise350 I really appreciate it alot.
If I take it to a place where I can get wifi to update it from hc3.0 will it update to hc 3.1 or hc 3.2? I understand that people also had a problem with wifi when they went to hc 3.1 . Also how long does the update take can I do it while at mcdonalds? lol
thanks.
there is alos a wifi patch on acers website for older version of android 3.1 3.01 i think.. This was common that it would not connect properly with some routers.. older models mostly..
so upgrading to the rooted 3.2.1 will also likely fix this..

thankyou very much that is what I wanted to know that updating it would probably fix it.
I am new to this as this is my 1st tablet.
so what would be the best way to update it to 3.2?
should I find a wifi that connects and then let it update on its own and how long would that take approx?
Also will it update from 3.0 to 3.2?
thanks alot for the reply. erica-renee.
the full ccan be fairly large the patch is for wifi issues on older version . then you can run the update..
if you intend on rooting it in the future dont take the 3.2 update until you are sure... due to a boot loader change that makes it harder to root..
to install that patch from your usb drive .. you can use the app documents to go that is on your tab to browser to external storage and find the file.. because there is no fille mananger on the tablet by defalt..

I checked the patch and it is for 3.1 hc mine is at 3.0 so I would need to update it to 3.1 before I apply the patch. I am going to go over to my brothers house today he has wifi also maybe it will work over there and I am going to just update to 3.1 or 3.2 which ever it updates to. I will let you know how it turns out thanks alot everyone.
Good Luck i would almost sugest you read the threads about updating to a stock rooted rom...
you would have to do the fallowing
install iconia root and run it..
install acer recovery installer from market use it to install custom recovery
download a rom .. recomend the honeylicious rom.. from dev forum.
boot into recovery
wipe menue fallow instructions from rom post
format
flash
done..
this is all layed out clearly in the rom post in dev forums.. sorry i did not get back with you sooner on this option.. its much better then ota 3.2 update unless you will never want root.. if so there is a way to do that.. as well just more work..
Hello All,This is my first ever post.I have read numerous posts on here and have found most of them very informative.I wanted to let anyone who was interested know that I have an Australian 3G/Wifi (not locked to any carrier) and wanted to get ICS (I couldn't wait several months for it to be released to my model). So I flashed to stock US Wifi (MZ604) HWI69 and from there upgrade via OTA to ICS. I have tested a number of apps over the last 2 days and everything seems to be working great. I'm pretty happy that I've got ICS and it is faster, not mind-blowing, but is faster.Thanks.
PS. Apologies if this should be posted in another thread.
How about 3g on your device? It working?
No. It is now only capable of WiFi. That is the drawback, but I have got ICS which is worth it.
Flash it with Team EOS XOOM ICS 4.0.3 umts_everest MZ601
And get your 3G back
Thanks Queb. I'm interested.
Couple of questions for you though:
1. Does your ROM have all the stock apps or have you removed some?
2. How stable is the ROM? Are some features not working yet?
3. Any chance your ROM has overclocking to 1.2 maybe 1.5?
Could you also please provide me with a direct link to your ROM thread/location.
Cheers.
Have a look at this thread, should answer all your questions

hi May I ask how did you upgrade? did you flash the US WiFI SBF using RSDlite? I also have a stock MZ601 3G and want to upgrade to US WiFi. I do not care about 3G working.
hi, my brother and me, we ve got two acer iconia a500 with 32gb.
my brother rootet his iconia 1 month ago and installed an ics rom.
now i bought my rom with normal firmware and no root.
i updated it to 4.0.3.
now my brother wants the official firmware on his iconia back.
is there a release of the ofw or is it possible to make a backup of mine
and he flash this rom to his iconia (so its nearly the same)
im looking forward for a positiv answer
Hi there,
Best bet would be for your brother to revert back to stock honeycomb and then allow the OTA updates to update him to the official ICS. There are many guides here on XDA on how to do that. That is likely the safest bet based on what bootloader he might be running etc.
can you please give me a link for a guide to getbstock rom back. hard to find something, aspecially when you are german
I went back to stock 3.0.1 and did updates up to 3.2.1 then i install Iconia tab update from the playstore when i got upto 3.2.1 then checked for updates again and it pushed ICS to my tab hear is the link method one worked for me method two did not let me update i kept getting the your device is upto date message. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227
Method two would be the best if you are not able to get your cpuid did not work for me but might do for you good luck need anymore help post back hear.
Just wondering if anyone has different radio firmware than mine, because my 3G chip seems to be a little touchy at times. My baseband version is as follows:
Cust:R3A01 Config:R3A02 Conf:R2B202 Protocol:R2A07 App:R2B01
I did come straight from HC 3.0.1 (I think...) when I got this A501. I went from HC 3.0.1 -> Unlocked ICS Bootloader v8 -> ICS 4.0.x . So I could have missed a HC 3.2 radio update, but I doubt it.
If anyone knows if there's a radio update around the place, can they link me to it? Cheers.
Cust R3A01/Config R3S/3 Conf RC301 Protocol R3B01 App R3C01
Not sure if there's any way to flash the radio firmware.
Had this thing for over a year, and never took an OTA, so it may have been shipped with it with 3.1
MD
Have a look in the update zips. I know you can manually install EC ROM images for the power management and the 3G might be similar but i don't have an A501 so I haven't tried
