My work requires that the startup passcode is set. However I can't find that option anywhere. On the G5 and most phones I've used, it's under security. Also where does it display encryption status?

Looks like you'll have to return it

How do you use the new WM6.5 without setting a password?
On the demonstration videos of WM6.5 around the web, there is no password screen when they slide the lock. But I can only activate the lock when i also set a password.
Hopefully someone can help solve this.
I do not want to use another program when Microsoft finally implemented this feature in the new Mobile OS.

If you are trying to disable the default pin lock goto settings-Lock. Under password uncheck "prompt if phone unused for" thats all I did.

If you press and hold the hang up button you can choose lock phone - no password setting required
seems like you should be able to reprogram a key to lock..
SmartLock 1.7E
Hi all
Look for SmartLock 1.7E. You can set it to "Suspend Lock" which means every time the device is resumed from being suspended its locked.

Hi,
since I have finally gotten NFC on locked phone to work on 4.2.2 rooted stock ROM, I would like to add a task that unlocks my phone in combination with an NFC tag (which I placed in my car dock).
Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work, whatever tool I use.
- Security settings, especially "clear password" oder "keyguard/patternlock off" don't seem to have effects.
- Widgetlocker can be reached with an intent, but only brings me to the pin screen instead of the desktop.
- "Unlock Keyguard Ad" takes me to the desktop but still seems to keep some kind of keyguard in the background that pops open when I e.g. open tasker.
The problems with "clear password" might be connected to the fact that my device in encrypted ...
So, any idea how to automatically unlock an encrypted Nexus 4 with PIN on stock firmware?
Update: Don't know what went wrong the last time, but now "keyguard off" does have an effect: The same as "Unlock Keyguard Ad". I get to the desktop, I can start apps, but if if I select e.g. tasker from the system bar, I am prompted for the password. Cannot see a system here ...
Also, "clear password" now has an effect: It sets the PIN to empty, but I am still prompted ...
Same issue with password on encrypted device
I was thrilled to find this thread because I'm facing the same issue of having trouble disabling my lock screen with an encrypted device.
My excitement turned to disappointment when I realized it's been over six months with no response. Did you find a solution? Does anyone have any insight into the best way of preventing the need to enter a password on an encrypted device?
Any way to disable the swipe up required before getting to the pattern unlock? Ideally I'd like to wake the phone and have the pattern unlock screen be the first thing that comes up. I am rooted and have xposed as well, so if anyone has any tips on how to get rid of that extra step, I'm all ears
Not natively.
GravityBox has an option called Direct Unlock under Lockscreen Tweaks. "Shows security challenge directly when screen turns on". So no more swipe up then enter pin. Also, there's an option in here to Quick Unlock upon entering the correct pin without having to hit "enter". And my favorite Imprint mode "Wake and unlock", which unlocks the phone directly from the fingerprint reader, no other steps required.

I stumbled across that late last night. Definitely achieves what I'm looking for, just a shame it hides the clock as well. I'm running the setting you mentioned, just trying to find a way to keep the clock on the screen
Why not use Imprint then?

I'm more of a fan of the pattern, but then again this is my first phone where the fingerprint sensor is easily accessible with a case on (coming from a line of samsungs, once you put a case on them the fingerprint scanner was worthless). Maybe I'll go that route
I'm on a 6P as well, but I'm running nougat. So is there a solution without using gravity box, as nougat is not compatible with xposed yet? I am currently rooted using magisk, so hopefully there is a mod I am unaware of for that I can use to bypass this.
Is there a way I can set this? Like if I don't use my phone for an hour require a pin to unlock it instead of a fingerprint.
Hola
Simple I think. 2 areas you need to configure:
1. Settings -> Display -> Sleep
2. Settings -> Security -> Screen lock -> Automatic lock

Unless ZTE changed the lockscreen behavior from Marshmallow, the fingerprint scanner will always unlock the device. If you can disable the fingerprint scanner temporarily, I can work something out for you using Tasker. On the lock screen, look for the padlock logo (it might be a fingerprint) at the bottom center of the screen. Either tap it, or press and hold. You may or may not see a message appear (see the attached screenshot). Try to unlock the phone with your fingerprint and let me know if you're forced to type in the PIN.
Apps designated as Device Administrators are supposed to have the ability to lock the device and disable the fingerprint scanner. Nova Launcher, Secure Settings, and Tasker all have Device Administrator supported lock commands. On stock Android, this would disable the fingerprint scanner and require the PIN to be entered. On B29, I found that ZTE removed this behavior and gave the fingerprint scanner absolute authority to unlock the device. If this is still the case, I never figured out a way to completely lock the device.
FWIW I was forced to enter a password today, fingerprint did not work. I did not knowingly reboot. I too find this behavior very disturbing. I do not memorize my passwords as the are robust (long) my finger should suffice in all circumstances IMHO. I am wondering if I could get any kind of an answer from customer service at Axon....
I want my lock screen disabled while I'm at home and at work.
According to Google:
"Smart Lock for Android. Security that just works: with Smart Lock turned on, your Android phone stays unlocked when it’s connected to a trusted device — like your smartwatch — or when it’s in a familiar spot — like your pocket. So it’s ready to use when you need it.
How to turn on Smart Lock for Android:
On your Android phone, go to Settings > Search and type in “Smart Lock.” Then tap “Smart Lock” to customize how your device knows when it’s safe to stay unlocked. "
Well, nope. Not there. For some reason, the only "Smart" search result is "Smart unlock," which allows a Bluetooth device to wake up the phone. Anybody know how to get the real Smart Lock enabled?
[edit] - sorry, I should have posted this in Questions and Answers, but I don't have rights to delete this post or move it.
Go to settings, advanced, security, and find 'trusted agents' at the bottom. Make sure smart Lock is enabled, and then check for it again.
I'd try, but that'd require setting a screen lock, which I haven't found a way to disable after setting.

I appreciate the response. I was able to find Smart Lock within Trusted Agents, but enabling it did not add the feature to the phone's settings, as far as I can tell. I tried rebooting the phone. No change.
I guess its yet another problem with EMUI.. https://www.xda-developers.com/smart-lock-on-huawei-honor-devices-emui/
