why does MIUI 8 hate notifications? - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

I've been using MIUI 8 for about a week now, and it's clear to me by now that MIUI hate notifications. that ain't no setting that I haven't tried (turned MIUI energy management on and off, added apps to it's whitelist when it was on, locked the process in the process screen, etc.) but still, there is no app that delivers all notifications, and the few that they actually deliver are usually pretty late. is there a way to fix this? or should I give up on MIUI 8 entirely?

Give Up.. Use CM13 or any other ASOP based rom.. You will have absolutely no problem.. You will love them straight away

the problem is that I'm already coming from an AOSP based ROM - dirty unicorns, to be precise. but that ROM was somehow too heavy, or maybe not properly optimized. it was too slow for some reason. which one are you using?

I am using CM13.. Its officially supported and has great community behind it.. try it.. I am also using berserk kernal on top of it

I've faced the same issue. Looks like MIUI somehow removes the app from memory for the sake of saving battery. Switched to RR now but I'd still switch to MIUI for camera's sake, this is something custom ROMs still lack. MIUI's camera is just easy and has some good features.

The Most Stable/Customizable ROM??

Hey all...I was wondering what people thought was the most stable/customizable rom out there? I'm currently using CM7 stable..and not to happy with it at all. I usually use MODACO's ROMS and have been very pleased....I just want something new, and fun...Any suggestions?
If you usually use Modoco, and have tried CM7, I guess only thing left to feel something "different & customizable" is the latest Miui.
Very stable and fast for me, and there are a bunch of themes. I highly recommend using Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher, as the built in launcher is what turns people away and in my experience is the source of instability. You can even cherry pick any aspect from between themes using the built in Theme Manager. Oh and on the latest version, I got 37 hours of normal use .
It's quite different. On MIUI now because I like the animations and built in exclusives:
File Manager with awesome indexing and great FTP
Music App is nice, scrolling lyrics are a cool feature
MIUI Gallery is slow at times, but lets you easily hide and unhide media folders.
MIUI Cam is nice too, reminds me of sense camera.
Phone/Contacts/SMS app are awesome as default android is lacking.
Lockscreen is visually nice.
I dislike the default launcher and the search!!
Niether are better, CM7 or MIUI, its all part of the fun of owning a great android phone. You get bored after a few months, you switch it up!
If you want stable, go CM6...

MIUI is nowhere near stable or bug-free. At least on Froyo it wasn't. And I don't believe that changing to a buggier Gingerbread as a base added stability to it.
If you want fun - go for it, in the worst case - keep your nandroid at hand.
If you want stability - stay with Froyo ROMs, CM6 or Enomther's. But it won't be fun then.
Yeah, I'm one of the people that have an amazing experience with MIUI, but others aren't so lucky. so like the guy above
Miui for new, fun and customizability
CM6 or Enom for guaranteed stable.
I've also had a great experience with MIUI. But, u'll only know by trying/flashing!
Thank you to all who responded. CM7 is going okay for me. I really like the customized features. But I'm having a terrible time with the Bluetooth feature. Every time I'm on a call, either the end user can't hear me or they hear static. I tried changing my kernel to REDSTAR, but yes, it made my phone screaming fast, but still I have the BT issue.
What do you all think of KANG-0-RAMA ROM? I'll check out the more stable roms you guys mentioned. I'm not a fan of MIUI only b/c I dont like the iPhone look. But what do you all like about cm6? and I emother? Can you all please list what are the pros and cons of those two?
AGAIN THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Stop being lazy!
If you use ADW for MIUI or reformat/repartition sd card--wipe all several times-- and do fresh install--use VM Heap Tool and set it at 48--the new GB MIUI is very stable for me.
I use MyBackUp Pro to bu home screens etc and restore--so it didn't take long to get back up and running
Take a look to this room http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061648 I have been using it for a couples of days and it is really stable, I don't know that kind of customization do you like from cm7 or modaco roms, I used too but they have too many problems.

thats odd... sleeps for almost everyone else. might be an app that is constantly keeping your phone awake or your sync settings are really frequent. which would go hand in hand with battery life.
Hearing people say MIUI is stable blows my mind. I've never used a buggier rom... it's quite nice when it works though.
I find that since 2.3, there hasn't been any stable roms. I'm hoping CM 7.1 is better, as I find CM7 pretty bad.
I'm using CM 7 ExtremeMod 16.5.2011 + a2sd. so far its very stable and battery last long.

Thinking about going back to stock AOSP rom

The stock AOSP rom seemed to run better than cm 7.03 plus it was 2.3.4. I know tge nightlys are the latest but I need somd stablility on my phone. CM7 seems buggy on this device even a couple random reboots. Anybody else experience similar results?

Stock 2.3.4 is great stability wise and has tremendous battery life.
Iv been running zuluzulu for about a week now and it flies. Great battery life although I am a heavy user. I haven't experienced random reboots at all with it. Also if you like the notification power widget from cm7 its built into zuluzulu.

Try AdamG's oxygen ROM and you'll never want the stock ROM again. It isn't built on cm7, it's based on aosp ROM.

Agreed. AdamG's Oxygen Rom is my favourite right now. It's AOSP GRJ22 with some of the great features from CyanogenMOD built in (status bar power widget, improved widget picker, etc) and fantastic battery life!

Uncle Jimmy says hello
With many devices over many years, I've consistently found that stock firmware is more stable and functional than enthusiast-developed firmware.
I have literally never found an enthusiast-developed firmware that doesn't have at least some minor interface glitches. Most have some problem that's major enough that after a few hours of playing I revert to stock.
Occasionally I will run something other than stock, but that is typically after the device has aged to the point that this is the only way to get a feature. By that point, it's usually time to replace the device, anyway.

I agree in general, but of course there are exception. When I had an HTC Evo 4G, I ended up running CM6 as my daily and it was exceptionally stable. At least as good as stock HTC Sense. Unfortunately when Gingerbread came around, that changed, and CM7 was not in the same ballpark.
On my Nexus, though... yeah I run stock ROM. CM7 is cool and if I had any other device (that came with a carrier OS and not pure Android), I would dump that shiz and rock CM7 for sure. But plain pure stock Android developed by a team of amazing developers specifically for this device, that's just not going to be beat
Hah. Google's "official" code isn't really better then what rom devs provide if they know what they're doing. The way google keeps pushing buggy code without giving a s*** is really disappointing. They release updates and then they stop caring about it. As some pointed out the gb update brought call delay and broke aac support, it really seems like they don't even do some basic testing before releasing a new version (which even the crappiest developer on the block generally does). On top of that, there is still no support at all for gpu acceleration in the ui, which is kinda retarded. Day after day i'm getting more and more disappointed about google dev team's job, they don't really deserve half the respect that many geeks keep tributing them.
Stock vs Custom rom on the NS was something I always thought about too! I only ran stock for a few hours because I immediately flashed a new rom when I got my phone LOL But what I can remember from the stock 2.3.4 was that it was fast, faster than any phone I've ever had. But there are so many features that are incorporated in custom roms and it's really hard to forgo these things.
Anyone out there who has used both stock 2.3.4 and oxygen who can attest to better battery life and performance? I am curious as well.
The last phone I used for a long time running stock was my N1 but after flashing CM6 I never really looked back. Speed increase was very noticeable and battery life was better. This is the reason why I never really bothered to use stock software for my next phones.
well, to be honest, i kinda regret to be flashed customs. Stock is so stable and has so good battery life, but now i can't live without cm7 features, just can't...
it's sad story that shows that you can't miss what you don't know! =oP
I agree for the most part, stock gb is pretty good. Using Oxygen now, and the stability and speed from stock + some nice features makes it a good choice!

In the case of Oxygen not much difference but I believe CM pretty much guts the framework and replaces it with their own heavily modded version.

Just wondering - does CM 7 for Nexus S still have the video capture glitch where a couple of seconds are skipped near the beginning when played back?

MIUS vs. CM7

Stability vs. Customization. I was a CM Fanatic(CM Donator) on my Nexus One until buggy laggy nightlies shifted me over to the far more stable & silky smooth MIUI but w/ MIUI I lost some customization that was there w/ CM7. Looking forward to Cyanogenmod getting their ish together and releasing a new stable so I can give them another shot.
I've moved both ways in the 12 months that I've had my Nexus. I started out using CM6.x, then thought I'd try MIUI when Rod started his mod (which is awesome btw). When CM7 hit Gingerbread, I couldn't resist and flashed the first nightly (fully expecting to go back to my MIUI nandroid). That Nand is long since deleted and I'm a fully fledged CM7 lover.
I can't really explain the exact reasons for each change. I think I just like something different once in a while, and when CM took the best bits from MIUI (FM radio, toggle bar in notification area etc) I had no reason to stick with MIUI.
I think my next "Big Flash" will be either a Sense ROM (never tried one) or Rod's GB MIUI...
Sense ROM are awesome

MIUS looks boring
CM7 seems just like stock Android... I mean it's much more stable and offer a few more customizations compared to stock android.
But MIUI is a different experience altogether. You can change the launcher if you don't like the iPhone-like app organization you can change the launcher. However, MIUI's messaging, contacts and various functionality built in is very well thought out and I find it really convenient to use without relying on 3rd party apps. Besides, since MIUI is based on CM7, it is just as stable.

Current Stable ROM and Kernel Combinations

Since there's not a whole lot of development right now for our device beyond slight modifications to stock images, I thought I'd start a thread on the best combinations I've found so far of the latest ROM's and kernels and such there are to choose from currently.
I've had the best luck so far with Elixir v.2.0.1. In my experience it's the only one so far that doesn't have a bug or anything that isn't working in it. It's missing an advanced reboot menu unlike the others but beyond that it has a very nice subtle theme change making colors darker and easy on the eyes and it's snappy and decently conservative on it's own. This ROM combined with Sensei version 8 kernel is fantastic!!! My battery increased 135% after undervolting 24mV and upping the clock speed to 2.9 (governor interactive) along with replacing MPDecision with Intelliplug on Conservative settings. There's even less stutter than in the stock installation and phone doesn't get nearly as warm.
A lot of people using the later Sensei releases are complaining of boot loops so I recommend staying at release 8 for now until the issues calm down in the next release or so. The developer has done a fantastic job and is working very hard on the kernel! Be sure and thank him.
What combinations are you guys using and what are your results?
Running elixir as well with lean kernel great rom no bugs very fast and like you said i like the subtle theme nothing too far from stock. My battery life isnt that great maybe i will try undervolting and trying the sensei kernel tweaks.
I haven't been tempted to flash any Roms so far. I really enjoy this phone the way it is.

Me too I never stay stock, but like this one. I am rooted and am happy with the tweaks I can make on my own, so far.
Euphoria + LeanKernel.
Rastapop is nice too.
I'm running the latest Validus ROM with latest Sensei Kernel. Both ROM and Kernel are SaberMod compiled with many more optimizations, they're a great combo.
RIPng has rebased his kernel and removed a few features to gain stability.. In my testing it's been very stable. If anyone tries his latest release just hold off on using the most recently added governors, there is more work to be done on them.

You're not missing much at the moment by not flashing a ROM since all of them are just barely modified stock images! I know what you guys mean though. I've never been as happy with a stock installation as I am on Lollipop on this particular phone anyways. Google has really come a long way! It's pretty impressive when you continue to refine an OS to the point that flash junkies like us are even happy leaving it alone!

The Liquid Devs have stated that once their builds are more stable they will open a thread up on XDA . The Validus Dev has hinted towards possibly just keeping his builds on Google+
I've just been checking DrDevs for Liquid and I get updates on Google+ for Validus. Nice to see more features being added back into Lollipop though.
Slimlp and lean kernel here. Slim is the snappiest performance ROM I've tried. It just opens everything quickly and battery has been pretty good. It's going to take a beast of a rom to make me switch. This is my opinion but slim is the best ROM ATM.

Everything that wasn't streaming seems to have been fixed at this point. I know a lot of issues were related to a few ROM's who changed the Android System Version value from 5.0 to something custom like 5.0 + 5.0.1 hybrid and caused in compatibility with apps expecting 5.0 to be in that field.

Stock vs Custom

So yesterday, I rooted and installed CyanogenMod 12 on my Nexus 6. Didn't like it. Wasn't impressed at all. First, there was very little difference between CM and the stock rom. No difference in battery life or anything special like that. I did like the customizations and also the fact that the notification light was now active (which btw is a real battery killer). I also liked the double tap to wake feature. However, the firmware itself was as buggy as it could get. Lag everywhere. Some apps wouldn't open properly and, worst of all, the camera app kept malfunctioning when I needed it the most.
Now I know CyanogenMod updates their nightlies just about everyday, and the majority of those bugs are fixed by now, but because it didn't bring anything really new to the table, I switched back to the rooted stock rom, installed LightFlow and a zip file which would enable the double tap to wake feature on rooted devices, and haven't looked back. Moral being, in my opinion at least, Stock is better than Custom.
So you flashed cm, which in my opinion isn't the greatest rom, and decided that stock is better than any custom rom? Maybe try one of the many roms out there that are way better than cm
lol, cm. cm hasnt been any good now for what, 4, maybe 3+ years? try some of the other non cm or cm based roms. there are many great, completely stable, aosp roms out there. i use terminus, with the elementalx kernel.
So wrong.
OP,
Are you seriously serious? Have you bothered to try any of the aosp based roms? So many to choose from, even some custom roms based on stock that would give you at least some of tHe things you say you like.

Lmao stop trolling ya nutcase
I find Stock ... for lack of a better description, boring.
Running Multirom test build for the nexus 6 for a week or so now and not looking back. I have the latest stock build as my internal rom that I can load by simply restarting my phone to remind me why I spent the time and effort ( and occasional donation) setting up custom roms. One can do a lot with stock/root and third party apps, but the really slick stuff needs to be built in to work well. Hence the rom development!
I am currently farting around with DU's 5.1 build for the themes and Chroma's latest for the layers. I have these installed as secondary roms on the Phone , all 3 roms take up about 9 GB right now and allow for three distinct flavors at the drop of a reboot.

So out of all the greatest stable daily driver of aosp, and custom stock base ROMs your first choice was CM a known buggy Not fully stable ROM? [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] Rookie's.
Lol wow some of you guys are rude. It's just an opinion. Yes, I've installed other customs roms and, while they're all fine and stable, nothing new is brought to the table that can't be installed on the rooted stock ROM. I did mention that I'm still rooted, right? Really no need for custom roms for me.
OP does have a good point.

This isn't what your first post says. You say you installed cm and go on to basically bash it and then say stock is better than custom. You never say anything about any other custom rom, so what do you expect people to think?
For me personally, using a rom the has either layers themes or cm themes alone makes that custom rom better than stock. I love having the ability to make my phone look different any time I want to.
I agree with the many posters. Who cares if stock rooted is better than a custom ROM? Just run stock then no need for a thread. And once again CM hasn't been good since CM7 lol

What about the Chroma ROM? That is better than stock, it's brilliant. Zephik made some huge ART optimization recently. I can say it makes a difference. More features keep being added too.
i agree with op
Stock is much more stable than cm, aicp is what i use right now but still looking for a non cm based rom.
Have you tried Rastapop, Terminus, Slim....Anything besides CM? There are plenty of custom roms that run 100x better than CM.

Eh, to each his own. I'm finding no problem in customizing the stock ROM to my liking.

Yeah, I've used LiquidSmooth, Chroma, Euphoria, etc. Not saying that I dislike custom roms. I like the thrill of installing a new ROM and praying to God that it works and functions properly (yes, I'm a root rookie). Customizing the stock ROM is just less of a hassle.

You should run AOSP then. I usually don't like my roms much farther than stock either
I thought CM was AOSP based?
