Does anyone know how to get the group texts to say who all is in the group? Instead of just getting a message from the sender as a mms without anyone else's name. Thanks in advance

I'm not sure about this specific problem, but MMS in general apparently works better with the Textra app on the Axon 7 rather than the stock one so maybe worth trying that.

In a group message, I get the messaged from each individual person instead of one message with everyone in it. Does that make sense? Lol I don't really know how to explain it. I'll check that app out though

This seems to be the way the Axon 7's messaging client is written. I also see every individual reply to a group text as an individual separate message from that person, with no indicator of others that the message is addressed to. This is annoying, because if other don't reply, I would never know it was a group conversation. I was thinking of installing a third-party messaging app because of this. For something simple, there's "Messenger" from google, in the play store. For something fancier, there are a lot of choices out there.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm going to give YAATA a try, actually. I've tried most of the others at some point in the past.
Textra is my go to. It's light with all the options I need.

all you guys that have textra working, can you add unknown phone numbers to "new" contacts? when i click the #circle, and then +contact icon, i only get a a search existing contact to add it to, i cannot add to a brand new contact. the stock messenger does it fine...
B27 should support group messaging though...no need other apps anymore

Sorry if this is a stupid question but how do bring up all your contacts in a list when you are sending a text message? I wanted to browse and select a few people out of my contacts but all I could do was add them one by one by typing their contact name.
I would like to be able to browse my contacts and tick off who I want the message to go to.
I don't think you can in the stock messaging app. Try Handcent instead, has a plethora of other features as well.

Is there anyway of making this the default message app?
Come on Google surely we can have better handling of contacts when sending a text message.
I come away from Symbian and Nokia to find a simple feature like this on an advanced phone like the Nexus S is missing. (I could do it on my old Nokia for gods sake)
How can we report stuff like this?
Not sure if you are, but if you're talking about hero or evo, you can click the little person on the right of where you would type the individual names. From there, you can select all recipients or groups

This is where to file a report on complaints/issues. I recommend using it and sharing the link to the report you file so that people may star it; this'll bring as much attention to it to Google as possible. Hopefully then they'll add/fix the feature in future updates. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list?thanks=13414&ts=1293293994

Ok thank you I will do that.
Does anyone know how to make Handcent the default messaging App and stop new messages going into the Stock app?
Request Google to add a feature to insert multiple contacts while messaging
Hi All,
I have requested this enhancement at code.google.com, request you all to vote for this issue and bring it to the notice of Google developers!!

Hello,
I have an 3G N7 and know that it can not receive / send SMS. OK, that is what was told of.
But today I got a notification that I have a message in notification bar, opened it and it looked like a regular SMS message.
Then I tested myself, I sent a normal SMS to my tablet gsm number and received it instantly. I'm on Vodafone if that makes any sense.
Build number is JDQ39 - baseband 1231_0.17.0_1205, Kernel 3.1.10-g05b777c.
Obviously this is some app inside that handles the received message, what's the app name ? location ? at least is interesting to know that at least SMS I can receive. How can I access it ?
Best regards,
Radu
Hi, i also have the same question. Anybody knows?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Download Go sms from store.
Google Voice works great on the N7 for sending and receiving sms, also. Sms works over wifi or data.
I maybe not beein too explicit.
I have received two SMS, regular kind, sent through my gsm carrier.
As i received them, means there is some app that recognise it and can handle the sms.
Question is, what is the app, how can i acces the messages received.
I'm aware of various solutions for sms that require to have an online account, in order to handle sms, do not want to use this kind of service.
Also, there is hack to install sms/mms apk by rooting, but, again this is not the object of my question.
I just want to check my incoming sms's for now.
Best regards,
Radu
Like mentioned above, if you install gosms or any other third party app it should allow you to view that text message that came through the carrier

Long press the notification and press "App Info" and that will tell you the name of the app.
Hello again,
Here is screenshot and detaild of the app.
As it says it receives SMS, but also can write SMS- see last line, in theory.
Question is, where can find this app. Looks to be hidden..

How to do so with stock mms.apk has already been covered here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34282107
Right in the N7 3G dev section. XDA search function is highly recommended

Hello Rebel,
I know the MMS.APK, saw it, thank you for heads up.
My specific question is, why should I use that, if I have an app already installed. I do get SMSs from any regular gsm phone, without being necessary to create an online account for GOSMSPRO or whatever similar. The screen shot says that I might be able to send also, on my cost SMSs. No probIem, just want to find that app that handles the SMS received. Can I do that ? can I send using same app that is ALREADY installed?
thank you for patience
radu
So it seems the 'Simple message receiver' is an app that comes with the 3g N7. Mine is just wi-fi, so I can't check, but does your app drawer have that app? If you check Settings > Apps > All, is it listed there? I have no idea how to open it if it is not in the app drawer or if you would be able to send using it anyway. Interesting that it is included in the 3G version.

Yes. As thw thread states, they are successfully receiving and sending sms from the same app over gsm, just as you would on a phone. The only difference i forsee is doing so with a dedicated data sim, or using the sim from your existing phone.
Many are using the latter, and using other apps to forward thier phone calls to the data side, and using sms normally.

this is complete bull...I am beyond pissed...why does group text not work???????????? what app are you using? how does group text work on a stock N4 but not a tricked out G2...can;t wait to root this and de-bloat all the garbage
I'm using textra. Seems to work fine
I'm sure it still works on ATT... Verizon doesn't have the option either, but it still works.
negative. when I try to send a group text it just sends to everyone individually
On the verizon G2 under the stock messaging app it gives u options to send to everyone as a mms or as individual txt messages.

im on at&t and this was my issue before on the Gpro.. now i have the G2, its still the same..
on the stock messaging app i can send group text.. the problem lies when those people reply.
instead of putting their replies on the group text thread, the stock messaging app creates individual threads of each persons' replies..
it sucks but oh well.. guess i have to deal with it or download a different messaging app...

You need to enable it in settings. you also need to remeber that those you are sending to need to either have their phone support it or have it enabled as well. or use and 3rd party app like Go sms, or handcent.
i am using the stock app for now, i have it enabled and it sends groups just fine if they meet above settings...
i sent group to my wife and daughters iphone, works just like it should send and receive as group, but it didnt work to my other kids older androids, until we loaded go sms and enabled group text...
THats the thing. I don't even have that option in my settings

I can confirm that it is not there on att... unless i am blind..
Verified: the ATT version does not have a setting like Verizon...completely bogus. Anyway---just downloaded textra and it seems to be working awesome. It's a new, very lean text app and has the group text option in settings. Tested it twice with and works flawlessly. Doesn't seem to be hitting my battery at all either.

I already went thru the settings and there is nothing there. Only LG has this coz i also had the GPro before and its the same. Send group text and recieve individual replies as new thread.
I had alot of android phones samsung, htc, motorola and i didnt have to download a third party app for receiving group text.
Does the LG G2 messaging app lag a little bit? Does it take a second or two to open messaging threads?
The phone is really fast but does the LG Messaging app seem a bit sluggish?
Thanks.
Yep, that's the way it is. That's one of the only small complaints that I have about the phone. Maybe and hopefully it will be fixed by LG or a dev.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda premium
I agree with both of you. It doesn't lag, especially when opening up a specific thread. My main reason for not changing it is that I like the quick reply feature, or whatever weird marketing name they decided to give it. I like being able to reply straight onto the notification.
No one has really even mentioned that in any of the reviews.. Actionable notifications are a big deal, I think.
I own the LG Pro and the LG Messaging is also slow to open threads. Unfortunately it has yet to be resolved and strictly limited to LG Messaging app.
I'll be getting the G2 in October when I am eligible to upgrade. Thanks for the feedback.

That is part of 4.3.... Had CM10 running on my Gnex. I would much prefer the stock messaging app.
I have noticed this as well. Odd, since it wasn't that way on the G Pro. Add to that the omission of group messaging.
I don't want to use a different app, either. The stock app lets you send videos as MMS (no matter the size) and I like having that functionality. And I may be alone in this, but I like the taskbar popup for new messages.
Noticing the same in my G2.
anybody with kitkat update can tell if it is fixed???
I am on AT&T. Cannot send or receive pictures through standard texting which was working good before kitkat update. Message app lagging too
Sprint considers your message app has problem only if you are unable to send or receive text messages and displaying error codes or network messages when you try to send a text message. But if your app only lags, it's just part of it. Live with it.
Solved

AT&T customer representative did solve the issue. She changed the service number and she told me she changed some provisional settings on her end...Finally it worked. I am now able to send and receive picture messages.
I use Verizon's Message+ as my default text messaging app. When I send a group message to others, I receive the replies (from iPhone users) as a DOWNLOAD. If I click on it, it says Downloading but nothing comes through.
I have read that some people have this problem if they switched over from an iPhone and were using iMessenger. I've always had an Android, never an iPhone.
I have tried using stock messenger and same thing happens. It appears this started when I starting using the 6P, didn't have this issue with previous phones.
Do you have to hit a download button for videos and photos sent to you?
No.

Huh, odd. My thought was that perhaps MMS auto-retrieve is disabled since group messages are usually MMS. If not, I'm afraid I have no idea.

Auto-reply is active. I'm wondering if it could be:
1) an updated version of iOS?
2) Nexus 6P and Verizon not working together nicely?
There is already a thread on this topic. Verizon messages is screwed up in the latest update. You need to find the apk for version 6.02 for messenger to work with MMS.
Great! Thanks for the info.
