Alright....
So I've gotten a new phone, and I intend on selling my AT&T GS5. Only problem with it is that it will not update. I had rooted it awhile back, I can't remember how I did (something rain comes to mind when I to remember). Anyways, I've factory reset it, and tried to load a complete stock rom onto it. It still won't update.... When I download the OTA update, it will begin to install and then at 28% it will say "Update failed" and then reboot the phone. Any help?
Model: SAMSUNG-SM-G900A
Android version: 4.4.2
Kernel Version 3.4.0-2178781
Build Number: KOT49H.G900AUCU2ANG3
As of right now the device is fully stock (freshly factory reset), even says "official".
Let me know what you need, thanks.
Make sure that your Build Number and Baseband Version match (last 3 being NG3)
Here's a similar post that I got that information from:

Me and my partner both have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 in the UK on EE, Our phones are set up the same and today my partners phone downloaded a 350Mb+ OTA update and applied it fine while if I try to update OTA it says it is up to date and if I try to update on the PC I get a message saying "Failed to convert to upgrade mode"
My phone currently says:
Build number: JDQ39.I9505XXUAME2
While my partners is:
Build number: JDQ39.I9505XXUBMG7
Which Kies says is the newest update.
What could be causing my phone to completely ignore the update? My phone isn't rooted and nothing has been added to either phone, they are both stock S4s.
I've spent the past 6 hours searching to try to find if anyone else has had this and any I have found have no answers, it's starting to drive me crazy now.

You could always go to apps then all and go to the Google Framework Services and Clear the cache and Reboot to try to force the OTA

Unfortunately this didn't work, also tried force stopping the service, clearing cache and data, rebooted and tried the OTA update again, still saying the phone is up to date, really wish it would have been that simple.
have you tried clearing cache & dalvik cache and restoring to default from recovery mode?
Update: After trying the suggestions in this thread, none of them worked unfortunately. I was getting ready to do a reset on it to see if it would help and I it suddenly decided to download and apply the update, so the problem is sorted but I have no clue how.

Dude, forget these OTA`s and flash the entire new rom from here www.sammobile.com with Odin 3.04. Afterwards do a data factory reset (backup first), this will give you the best result.
Same thing happened to me.
Me, my girlfriend and my brother have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505. All phones was bought 3 weeks ago.
After purchase I checked all S4 for update. All show that they have newest updates.
2 days ago I once again checked my GF S4 for update and i started to update. Downloaded one 70mb ant other 300mb update patch and updated itself. Same on brothers phone.
But when I try to update my S4 it says that its up to date.
My phone:
Build number: I9505XXUAMDE
GF and brothers phone:
Build number: I9505XXUAMDD. After update I9505XXUBMG7.
Why my S4 do not updates?
Updates are released in different time depending on region?
Hi all, really need your help. 2 weeks ago I bought this device, before never used android. 3 days ago by connecting it to a computer, the Kies software has given the message
"that there is a new version", I agreed, and then device as if replaced, it start to work slowly stucking on some screens, such as phone book or phone itself, it gives a strange message, that he had to stop the work of a program. Then I tried to solve the problem, but everything i did not fixed the issue, I even think that made it worse. I did the following things.
I tried to root device, did it as it was written on some site, after a Odin has finished, I found SuperSu program, but SuperSu wrote that the binary ihe s not installed, checking the Root, no root access. 2 Performed Data factory reset twice did not helped, Performed to flash again the latest official firmware, but also did not helped, the problem not solved, Uninstall SuperSu. no longer know how else to help themselves, need professional help.
Please write me what should i do? how can return the previously firmware, or how to root it correctly and install new Rom.

Hello,

I managed to root the s4 (not branded, orignal samsung so no sprint or At&T,...) tripping the stupid knox , but I do not realy care as I do not trust these solutions to be great, if some other samsung pushed solutions do not work either.
Nevertheless, I seem to be stuck not able to flash a new rom. I'm simply not getting in the recovery mode of CWM or something else.
I tried rom manager, which says : cwm flashed, I tried sgs4 Flasher, I tried ODIN troiugh computer. It all says "flashed, but when I want to get into the flash, I do not get the full menu, seems to be a standard Samsung flash rather then a mod flash recovery.

What I want: To be able to have another rom on it, so therefore I need to boot into CUSTOM recovery, what is not happening.

After a long day of trial and error, i finally manged to get it to work, by activating recovery from standard functioning within the clockworkmod APK program from google play store
Via the 3 buttons (volume up/down | power | and home, it never worked to get in the clockwork or other custom recovery.
Maybe samsung pushed within its latest update a blocage (i received around mid september 2014, probably an older update), a blockage with the buttons so that getting into an fresh installed recovery is kinda not possible and it keeps reinstalling the stock one over it......anyway, now it works...
I recently decided to return my phone to stock, so I downloaded the most recent update of KITKAT 4.4.2 from sammobile. I uploaded the new firmware using ODIN and experienced no issues up until I started my phone for the first time. I performed a factory reset and also deleted the cache but it made no noticeable difference.
I now have absolutely no control over my phone, it now lags and I am unable to make phone calls, connect to WIFI or turn up the volume.
I'm not very familiar with these phones but im fairly certain that either something wasn't updated correctly or one of the files may be corrupt.
Could anyone point me in the right direction and provide me with the correct firmware or information to correct this issue?
Thank you.

Your modem looks to be very outdated. See if updating it helps with reception. Did you flash the correct firmware with odin?
As far as I know I updated with the most recent software.
Is it possible that a modem update could fix all the issues I'm experiencing?
Would you be able to provide me with the most recent firmware and modem update?
I've been having nothing but issues trying to download from these mirror sites.
No, as I don't have your variant of the S4. I have an SGH-M919. Flashing is pretty standard across the board assuming you can install a custom recovery. I'm not sure if you have TWRP/CWM or are using SafeStrap. I can't stand touchwiz, so I usually run some form of AOSP. That may not be an option for your handset, especially if the bootloader is locked.

Latest update for your device is: HERE .You must follow this steps:
1. Download, unzip it and flash the .tar file through ODIN.
2. Wait the process finish and reboot your phone.
3. Reflash the same firmware if you still having problems with WIFI, lag, sound, etc.
4. Good luck
So, today I finally decided to get around to rooting/updating my Zenfone 2 after having it for about a year and a half. Get the rooting done, then I see a way to switch to the WW version instead of the one I'm on. Of course, since I'm stuck on Android 5.0 and the WW firmware goes up to MM, I immediately wanted to switch.
Tried following a bunch of different instructions on how to upgrade, and everything I've tried fails, even after unrooting my device. Most of the methods I've tried (manual install from recovery, system update after moving files onto phone, etc.) look like they start to work, then about halfway through the update I get a message on the screen that just says "error" with the bot laying down. Try to run the sideload with adb, get a message that "error: device not found" but figure it would be the same if I even did get it to work.
Anyone have any suggestions for what I can try, or am I overlooking something dumb? Thanks.
Oh, also, tried a few different editions of the WW firmware, all do the same thing, so it's not just one bad file.

After doing a Google search, I think you should first switch to WW version of Stock 5.0 than upgrade to Stock 6.0.1
You are in CN or TW , right?
Going by everything I've seen, I'd assume I'm on a CN version, going by what release I'm currently on. However, the firmware on my phone claims it's a WW version, so I'm not completely sure. Guessing it started out as a CN, then switched to a CERTAIN version of WW at some point, but doesn't seem to be in-line with the other WW updates, seeing how I'm visibly several iterations back from the most current WW release.
If it helps:

From your build number, you are already on the latest version of WW stock 5.0
In order to upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Download the firmware file(WW-4.21.40.223) from ASUS ( https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML/HelpDesk_Download/ )and rename it to MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip Put the MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip in internal storage as well as micro sd card (if you have one). Boot into recovery and it will update automatically.
Well, I'll be darned. That actually did it. Before, i was trying with the update file on EITHER my internal storage or my SD card, and that ended up just giving me an error message. Putting it on both at once caused it to go through properly. Thanks!
