Does the Canadian Nexus 7 LTE deb work in Germany

Hello,
I heard that there are different LTE frequencies and i'm not sure if a LTE Nexus 7 bought in Canada would work in Germany? Probably this is an hardware issue and can't be changed with a custom Rom or something? Or is there a way to get it working? Thanks for your help.

Why not buying the LTE-version at the MediaMarkt in Germany? Then you are sure LTE will work in Germany (and the rest of Europe!)!

Maybe because I'm in Canada?

The supported LTE frequencies are different. They are listed here:

You will have very, very little LTE coverage with a North American N7 in Europe. Things look good for GSM/HSPA+.

So could I use the n7 but it will most likely just get HSPA+?
But it is hardware locked isnt it? So I can't change the bands with software?

Theoretically - but since Qualcomm is keeping the tech notes for the WRT1605L chip very hard to obtain - and since there is no software to do this - and since it's entirely possible the chip is 'select once' (I've read through the API for the chipset and can find lots of 'look up the settings' but no 'change the settings' commands), I would say 'not gonna happen soon'.
In fact, it's slightly worse than you might think. Canada uses bands 4 and 7 which ARE included in the European model, but only band 4 is included in the US model - so we're already taking a compatibility hit. Even worse, the US model only uses six of the seven bands the chip can support at one time - you'd think they'd have thrown in 7 just for compatibility reasons.
In any case, the 'unlocked' they refer to is 'carrier unlocked' which means you can use it with any carrier... not unlocked as in 'you can change the bands'.

I think the unit sold in Canada is the "Rest Of World" unit, since there is more overlap between the Canadian LTE frequencies than the North America / Japan unit.

I contacted the Google customer service and they said thats true, Canada belongs to the "Rest Of World"

Sadly - this is incorrect statement . I bought mine and it does not connect to LTE. I called rogers Canada and they said you need LTE 2600MHz to be able to connect at the LTE rate. So i called Google Play and after 45 minutes in the call , they said bottom line is if you in Canada ( which is North America, d'oh! ) you are not getting 2600MHz on your Nexus 7. And Basta !

This information is incorrect or at least outdated. Rogers supports the 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz LTE bands. Hardware-wise, the 2100 MHz band is supported on the Nexus 7 (US/Canada); the 2600 MHz band is only supported on the International Nexus 7. The 2100 MHz band is the default band for Rogers LTE -- everywhere that Rogers has deployed LTE, they have deployed 2100 MHz. I personally use my Nexus 7 (US/Canada) on the Rogers network, with LTE, and it works fine.
However, if you want to use the Rogers "LTE Max" service, then yes, you need both 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz. LTE Max uses both frequency bands to increase throughput. On LTE Max, 150Mb/s downstream rates are theoretically achievable. The regular Rogers LTE, on the 2100 MHz band (without 2600 MHz) can only reach 75Mb/s downstream. The Rogers 2600 MHz band is only active in a very few areas (mainly very big cities). Outside of these few areas, you can't get LTE Max, and the only way to get any LTE at all is via 2100 MHz.
Personally, I have no problem with "only" 75Mb/s downstream.

I was planing to ask my friend to get me a Nexus 6p from US and bring it over to Europe and I was wondering if there are different versions of Nexus 6P for US and Europe (with different sets of LTE bands ) ? Will I have a problem of using it with European GSM bands (specifically the LTE/4G) ?

Agreed, the US version has less bands than the international version. It does not have band 8, which is what most of the UK's 4g network runs on. There are a few exceptions, but most of them work of band 8.

This, it's also missing band 20, which is used for 4G networks in the Netherlands and most of mainland Europe as far as I know. Basically a US Nexus 6P won't work on 4G/LTE in Europe.

Ahh, ok then :/ That was my shot to get this phone cheaper, it's ridiculous how expensive it is here compared to US .

I know that here in Ireland Vodafone (my carrier) use both band 20 and band 3, with band 3 usage being more recent. I am doing my research at the moment but am hoping that if I get a US Nexus 6P I will be able to use it here with Vodafone LTE on band 3.

US Version and International have the same amount of bands just different ones. No one in Europe runs on band 8. UK runs mostly on 3/7/20. So most likely you will get LTE coverage from your carrier unless you're with O2 or Vodaphone since they only support band 20.
US: 2/3/4/5/7/12/13/17/25/26/29/30
International: 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/9/17/19/20/28
Use an app like LTE Discovery to see what band you're using in your most frequented places.

Vodafone UK help

hi all, I have just purchased the awesome oneplus 2 locally BUT didn't realise that it is the Chinese model until i got home.
Unfortunately I am with Vodafone UK and 4G doesn't seem to work, so i was hoping someone had an idea on what i can do with regards to this?
Would flashing a radio help? Thanks in advance

Vodafone UK uses Band 20 & Band 7 for LTE & the Chinese OP2 (A2001) only has Bands 1, 3 & 7 enabled.
So, if you're not in a Band 7 area (very limited ATM), you won't be able to use LTE.
Flashing a radio won't help as the three different models have different bands enabled in hardware.
Only the European/Asian version (A2003) has Band 20 enabled.

I bought an SM-G950U1 (US Unlocked) from Best Buy. Does any one know if it supports TDD LTE Band 40 (2300 MHz)?
There is conflicting information on this! Answers given in various specs vary as follows:
YES (it supports LTE Band 40) --- according to specs given by sellers like Best Buy, B&H, and many online sites like gsmarena, phonearena, frequencycheck.com, etc.
NO (does not support LTE Band 40) --- according to the Samsung support person I talked to over the phone. Also, the FCC filings for SM-G950U do not list TDD LTE Band 40 (they have only one TDD band listed, Band 41, presumably for Sprint). On the other hand, although TDD LTE Band 41 is actually known to work with the SM-G950U1, the official Samsung SM-G950U webpage does not list any TDD band at all, not even Band 41 (it lists only FDD LTE bands).

I don't have a carrier that would have Band 40, but here is the thread which lists all bands for different versions of S8. You can try asking there as well.

Band 40 LTE is there. Open phone and dial *#2263# and it will list all bands active in the phone, including 40. It is in mine.

One question: The *#*#4636#*#* info menu does not seem to work on the S8 (works on many other android phones). Any idea what might be an equivalent for the S8?

Will it work in Australia on Telstra?

Hello everyone!
I live in Australia, and have just ordered this phone in India, who is supposed to bring it to Australia next week.
The box says 'Indian sim only'. But when I asked the Samsung customer care and looked into some other sources, people say that after using it on an Indian sim for 10-15 mins, it'll work on other networks too. The bands are supported though.
I'm really confused, whether to keep it or return it. Please suggest! Thanks in advance.

Thanks @pabgar for the info. I think the bands are supported. It's the regional lock I'm worried about. Because the box says Indian sim only. And there are confusing facts over the internet. Some say it won't work outside India, but others say that after using it on Indian sim and making a call for 10-15 minutes registers in on the Indian carrier, then it works on other networks too. I remember the Australians telling me Band 28 was necessary for good service within Australia.

Indeed B28 is low 700MHz band applied in rural areas because of long range from BTS
