YouTube links from external sites not working - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Over the past week I have noticed that if I click a link for a YouTube video from some place like facebook, instagram, reddit app, that the video fails to load. I'm instead taken to the YouTube home screen and get an android system message on the bottom of my screen that says "Can't load link".
I'm 100% stock with the latest security patch, and in the U.S. Initially I thought it was a Facebook problem, but it appears to be any link to a YouTube video that causes it. Embeded YouTube videos play fine.
These linked videos play fine on other devices.

YouTube PROBLEM

When i open HTC YouTube app it doesn't load the thumbnails of the videos, only the gray tv icons! Does anyone else have same issue?
How can i fix this?
Thanks!
yes i have the same problem! i've searched for some answers and no luck. the google youtube works fine but it's not the same quality.
Me too! The same problem with HTC's Youtube client.
I noticed that under the history tab, some old videos i had viewed about a week ago had their thumbnails displayed whereas the more recent videos had none (an active internet connection is required to load these 'history thumbnails').
Also, from a "fresh" list of videos,if you click on the description button (!), a thumbnail sometimes loads on the description screen.
This leads me to conclude it's not the software, but somehow Youtube has stopped sending/changed the preview pictures that accompany the video description.
Is this just a temporary glitch, or does Google want us all to switch to its own viewer?
guys
go for the offical youtube app from google
its work for me and its faster than the htc youtube
demo video

download last version
http://m.google.com/youtube/download/binaries/L1/2.0.9/youtube.CAB
yeah o dont reallu like the google youtube version its faster but less quality. anyway i was having the same problem now is working fine. maybe it was a problem on the youtube server or maybe upgrading my sprint rom to the latest htc version fixed it.

Mobile YouTube Plays in Native Player

I have read some threads on here about people complaining about the native youtube app...i.e. not good for searches and what not. Well I was messing about yesterday and went to m.youtube.com on my opera browser and when I clicked on a video it automatically opened up in the youtube player and played?! Not sure if everyone knew about this but I thought I would throw this out there!
yep, you can actually take this a step further (a rather large step) and download a cab that will play any youtube video in youtube (whether you get a link in an email or just click on one online at some site...or even the normal youtube page.)

I had that installed and it started acting up after a day or two. So I uninstalled it!

Flash player judder?

I've got the 10.1 flash and it was updated today too but any flash videos I watch are often juddering. It's almost like stop motion animation. Does anyone else's player play ok? If I use skyfire browser they generally play ok but I prefer the stock browser.
Also, on previous phones if I click a YouTube link from a forum the YouTube app would open to play it. On my dhd it goes to the YouTube site to play and then I get the juddery issue above. Is there a way of making the YouTube app open automatically when clicking a link?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
On my phone all the flash videos play fine and in HD. (it played fine with the original flash that came with the phone, but I have now installed the one from the market to be sure to get the latest updates).
As for youtube, all the links open in full screen in the player (sometimes I need to click on the icon to get it to open in fullscreen).
The DHD comes with youtube 1.6, but I have updated it with version 2 from the market.
Could you post a link to a flash video youve watched that played smoothly so i can check mine?
EDIT: for example can you play this video smoothly?

Just judders for me

No, this one judders as well. But when you play it there is a popup text that says "This video is not optimized for mobile devices". So, the website is at fault for not providing a web optimized video.
But this is the first time I have a problem with a video, all of the other flash videos I have come across always play properly.
You can try the videos on bbc.com, cnn.com, youtube.com, etc... Either you will get a popup asking you if you want to play the video in the play or you can play it on the page.

It's there, the only youtube version I see on the market is version 2.0.26.
Usually when you can't see something in the market it's because it isn't avaialbe for your area. I don't know if this is the problem you are experiencing.
Google also provides it at m.google.com/youtube , but I don't know if it's the same version.

[Q] Youtube buffering forever

I was trying to watch a youtube video. In the youtube app, it just shows "buffering... " and does not play. Using the browser, only the circular loading screen showed. Note that everything else loads like the comments, views etc.
However, i can view embedded youtube videos. Now im confused. I think it has to do with the youtube mobile player since the regular player for pc was able to play the embedded video.
Do you know any fix? Thanks.

Youtube App - Black Screen - Audio fine

Phone info: Rooted (Dirty Santa) VS99513A Security Patch Level December 1, 2016
Problem: Youtube App - almost all videos will initially show the static video preview screen, but will then go black as soon as ad and/or video starts. Audio is fine throughout.
I can play YT video from the Chrome browser on the phone (after disabling hardware acceleration).
I've cleared data/cache from YT app. I've uninstalled/reinstalled YT app. Reinstalled all YT updates, etc. Don't know what the issue is. Annoying.

Start playing video then swipe to dismiss it. Play the video again and it should work. Happens to me on a modded version I have and usually that fixes it.
I'm experiencing the same issue. It only works through swipping down with Youtube modded version.
Really miss the official YouTube app.
Any help .. ?
