I've got the 10.1 flash and it was updated today too but any flash videos I watch are often juddering. It's almost like stop motion animation. Does anyone else's player play ok? If I use skyfire browser they generally play ok but I prefer the stock browser.
Also, on previous phones if I click a YouTube link from a forum the YouTube app would open to play it. On my dhd it goes to the YouTube site to play and then I get the juddery issue above. Is there a way of making the YouTube app open automatically when clicking a link?

On my phone all the flash videos play fine and in HD. (it played fine with the original flash that came with the phone, but I have now installed the one from the market to be sure to get the latest updates).
As for youtube, all the links open in full screen in the player (sometimes I need to click on the icon to get it to open in fullscreen).
The DHD comes with youtube 1.6, but I have updated it with version 2 from the market.
Could you post a link to a flash video youve watched that played smoothly so i can check mine?
EDIT: for example can you play this video smoothly?

No, this one judders as well. But when you play it there is a popup text that says "This video is not optimized for mobile devices". So, the website is at fault for not providing a web optimized video.
But this is the first time I have a problem with a video, all of the other flash videos I have come across always play properly.
You can try the videos on bbc.com, cnn.com, youtube.com, etc... Either you will get a popup asking you if you want to play the video in the play or you can play it on the page.

It's there, the only youtube version I see on the market is version 2.0.26.
Usually when you can't see something in the market it's because it isn't avaialbe for your area. I don't know if this is the problem you are experiencing.
Google also provides it at m.google.com/youtube , but I don't know if it's the same version.

how did u get to view you tube on your 8125? i have orb 2.0 and it keeps asking me for some codecs.
You have to download certain codecs and install them from there website. The codec that i installed to get the youtube videos to play was the ffdshow codec.
what do you guys mean? go to tinytube.net on your phone and you can download any video from 6 different sources, including, google, myspace, and break just to name a few.

I second that. Nothing to install, just download away.

You CANNOT view youtube videos with tinytube.net. Plus it seems im always being queued to view a damn video. Orb is faster compared to the quality...only downside is you have to have your computer running. Which I dont find to be a problem personally
but most youtube videos are on google and myspace anyway
It seems that none of the offered solutions properly play streaming video. Anyone found any other way to do so?

Kind of off topic, but a little similar... Is anyone having problems downloading streaming media from these sites? I have an AT&T Tilt and whenever I click on a streaming link that is flashed based, Realplayer will come up and tell me this file format is not supported. But, there is no option anywhere to uninstall this thing! I also tried adding all associations /w TCPMP but still no luck. Anyone else running into this?
I dont know if its just me but I dont see an option for HQ when playing videos which are available in HQ
Im running Fresh Rom .53
when I click a link it always launches in the browser flash. It automatically goes to landscape mode..
Is there a way to set it to launch the video in the youtube app or in the new HTML5 ?
Ive searched for this topic but have not found anyone talking about it so I assume maybe its something im doing
Whenever I watch something using the YouTube app, once it switches to landscape it shows the seek bar at the bottom, all the way to the right of that there is a HQ icon. If it is grey HQ is off, tap that icon and it will turn red indicating it is on.
The same applies if I go to YouTube through the internet browser.

I think the explanation is that Android 2.1 Browser does not have HTML5 video capabilities. I've tried a 2.2 Froyo ROM on my Evo and it DOES show the HD option.
GReddy the YouTube site was updated yesterday. It runs using Flash now. I have the same problem as the op and I'm stock.

Yeah I'm stock and when I use the youtube website it luanches the vid in HTC flash player so there isnt an HD option blahhh
Eek, you guys are right! I stand corrected. Even in the stupid video release by YouTube "Introducing the New YouTube Mobile Website" shows an HQ button that does not exist.
I dont know why I had to jump through hoops to get the HQ button but in the addy bar type "about:config" without quotes of course and go into settings and change UAString to Iphone, it throws up an occasional error but ive gotten most videos to play, the browser probably just needs some sort of update on the html 5 support
Some of the roms pop up a query box to open in Youtube app or HTC flash player. Obviously the flash player is the flash lite crap one so quality sucks. This can be changed by the developer.
eg. Nosense asop like does this. So all youtube, even launched from the web, plays in the evo player and you have the HQ option.

I get that when I follow q YouTube link from another site because those are links to full YouTube. The new mobile site is redesigned and doesn't offer this.

Not to hijack this thread, but on my iPod Touch the HD ones show. So maybe it has to do with HTML 5 then?
I can select high quality on my moment. Have do go through the menu to do it.

Archos 101IT-16 2.2.1 .71
I have tried the flash you can download from the market and the droid x version and they bih sucked in their own wonderful ways.
Just for kicks i thought I would sideload the version I could download with my nexus and it works much better than the other two. 10.1. 105.7
No root on either, went to market on nexus, dl flash, i have app installed that auto moves to sd, used astro to back it up, renamed it from pkg.apk to flash... and emailed it to myself, installed directly from email.
I don't do much that uses flash so tested what I could find. Youtube was smooth and a game off the flash demo site worked.
If you have a good site to test it on, leave a link and I will let you know how it works.
Any chance of loading it on here so we can test it on our 101's ??

You can test this site.
http://waterlife.nfb.ca/
That's a pretty intense site. it works, but much choppier than my computer which still had some trouble keeping up.
The biggest problem I saw is on the computer, the rotations tried to follow the mouse. on the tablet, it seemed to think there was a bunch of input where there was none. (flicking back and forth and all around). Probably doesn't work well on other touch screen devices either.
What's a common site that uses flash?
When you say smooth on youtube, is it immediately smooth? the flash I have on mine goes smooth if you give it about 5 seconds. I cant interact with flash videos though. "Sometimes" I manage to fastfoward. Of course full screen doesn't work, volume doesnt work,. Etc...
Mine is smooth right away, full screen works .. I just picked a random video (imagine no toilets) I expected a parody on imagine, but I was able to move the selector anywhere in the downloaded stream smoothly. when i went ahead too far, it glitched while it built a new buffer, but so does my laptop.
just tried another one and if the spool is not finished, it seems to restart the stream from my new point, but it's pretty quick. I am also using HQ mode. hmm that seems like an error with the spool bar as I can easily move back and forth between the known downloaded points.
For anyone who wants it, here you go!
I tried it out on my 101 and it works good for the lower quality videos. It still skips and freezes on the HQ stuff. (This is of course using the browser and not the youtube app)
I tried the apk from my N1 also (same version as OP) without success. I tried a youtube vid from archosfans and it was very jumpy. I then tried a video from NFL.com with worse results.
I got a video at MetaCafe to work which is a first. Break.com was a fail as was most every other site I used.
So, it appears this is a bit better as I could not get any to work using the droidx version. I hope Archos gives us a decent one soon...

For me nothing is played smooth except the mobile optimized pixelated videos, this is the same as with the market flash...

Youtube app isn't flash. Only if you go to the desktop Youtube page will it be flash.
Doh,
i swear my youtube didn't work until i reinstalled flash
I'll remove it and see if yt still works
Tried on 101 with dolphin with desktop useragent. Doesn't work. Hangs on youtube will play some flash but very choppy.
So, the youtube app still works well with flash removed after reboot, but you can't use the www website to link to videos.
I cant seem to find a way to watch a youtube video and do other things on my tablet such as browse the web or open up another app. Ive tried the youtube app and the website but neither let me multitask and still play a video.

That's the closest thing you are going to get.
Dolphin browser mini lets you have a flash app play in a background tab. Not when you switch apps though.
Maybe this app will help?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gtmusic.ghosttown
Thanks for the link to Ghosttown..that's a great app. Only one little niggle with it though....
because it takes the video from youtube, it doesn't distinguish between the album versions and the live versions....it won't filter...so when you choose an album...you could get all kinds of versions of a tune, not necessarily the proper one from the album chosen.

And wow ghostown is a really nice app
Ok, some of you may already know about this but allow me please to make this thread for people who dont know and rely on youtube's app to watch their videos. I was constantly being annoyed of watching videos in the official youtube app which are supposed to be hd but they all would look like blurred and of low quality, although i had selected in settings the HQ (High Quality) option. The problem is that these videos are being played in standard 480p definition and there's nothing you can do about it. Here's how its done:
4.2 JB
1) Install Mozilla's Firefox Browser from playstore (unfortunately chrome does not support flash)
2) Download and install manually Adobe's Flash player from here http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html Scroll down where it says Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0 and download the latest version 11.1.115.81
3) Open Firefox, go to settings->display->plugins and select enabled
4) Still in Firefox go to tools->Add-ons->Browse all firefox add-ons, search for the add-on Phony and install it
5) Now under settings there is an option named Phony, press it and under Select User Agent chose Desktop Firefox. Finally restart the firefox
4.4 KitKat
1) Install Dolphin Browser and Dolphin Jetpack from the playstore
2) In doplhin's settings menu enable the flash player (always on), enable the dolphin jetpack and select for user agent desktop
3) Install the hacked flash player from here
Now you re set. Put the url of youtube, navigate to the video you want to watch and press the little gear in the bottom right corner of youtube's video, select 720p or 1080p if the video supports it and watch it in really high definition. Needless to say that i never used youtube's app anymore to watch my videos as i can manage my playlists, turn on or off the annotations, put captions etc. like i do in my desktop computer
*ALTERNATIVE APP* If you want to stay away from the trouble of installing flash player and you want to use an app for viewing youtube videos you should check the Viral Floating Youtube Popup app. It supports hd playback, a resizable player to run along with other apps, background playback and many other cool features. Check the developer's original thread here.
You do realize all that is unnecessary, right? All you have to do is install flash, run the native LG browser, and switch to desktop view. Youtube will then allow 1080p resolution via the gear icon.
Fantastic guide, being stuck on 480p was not very helpful as many of the videos for me came out blurry and not to the full definition. Now I am able to watch videos I have uploaded to the internet in full HD, thank you so much for the guide and for it to be in-depth, as I hate guides which are only a few sentences. The 1080p will work best depending on your internet, as I have fast internet in my house so it should not be a problem with lag etc.

It's completely ridiculous that we have to do even that though, I can't believe that the youtube app's "HD" is still not even proper 720.

480p and 1080p are now not available in any app since google split the streams in to. 720p should work fine. Can you grab a log of the crash?
You can try another way for background play, press the pop-up icon, then in the pop-up window, press minimise.

I switched to your app as pvstar doesnt support hd. I have to admit that your app is the best of its kind, everything is nicely organised and the best feature by far is the background and resizable player, this app is definitely worthy 5 stars. I understand now the reason that you dont have 1080p, anyway there isnt any noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p in this tablet's display. When i had first installed it some weeks ago i noticed that it crashed 2 or 3 times after some long usage and displaying the same error every time, i dont remember it exactly though, something about "we re sorry but the application has crashed"?. I dont know how to take a log if that happens again, maybe you could tell me a way or i could get a screenshot and report it if it happens again. Keep up the good work mate.

On GPE You need a hacked flash player for KitKat. There's download link in OP point 2, here:
[Guide][Flash]How to play flash video on Android 4.4 Kitkat
Install latest Dolphin browser from play store, enable jetpack in settings and flash. I personally set flash in Dolphin 'on demand' just not to see all this flash adverts on web pages.
Works good on my nexus 5.
Ah, that's it. I have 4.3 on the GNex. Thanks for the link to the hacked flash--it's working. The app in the sig, is "viral". It looks cool, but I haven't tried it yet.

LMT from my signature was the reason I rooted my first phone. It's outstanding with customizations. It works even on not rooted devices (except of back and menu buttons), you can still make shortcuts to lot of apps to start them from pie.
You need root for full functionality.
