Youtube keeps crashing and locking up - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on a standard unmodified shield 500GB. Its actually a replacement from Nvidia as my old one kept locking up and crashing. I have noticed since getting this one yesterday that youtube keeps freezing at the beginning of videos and force closes more often than works. Is anyone else having this problem?

How much space do you have remaining on your device ? I've had similiar issues with many apps when running low on storage space.
Freeing up space solved my issues.

i don't have many apps taking up space. Kodi is installed etc but its the 500gb version so plenty left.

Did you try a factory reset ?

I got it sorted out. Spoke to tech support and they turned out to be very helpful. Cleared the YouTube cache and data from settings and restarted and the app seems to now be working without issue. I'd already done this myself but I didn't restart the device after clearing data and cache. All working fast again now.

Free memory s/w for HD

Hello,
Being used HD for one week, I found one problem about memory consumption (not a problem actually ).
At startup, about 120M free memory, after using for one day (Opera, view picture, games, stock manager, etc), only about 80M RAM left.
I have tried to use
- oxios memory
- MemMaid 2.0
but it can only free 1-2M RAM, where is my RAM
Yes, I found out the same problem! Try to do a reset and the memory is cleaned again. I use the X button to kill all programs after using them, but it seems to be fludding on a regular basis, also activesync program keep popping up when I'm not connected, and the memory usage slowely gets higher every hour with a few procent.
Does anyone else has the same prob? Didn't use special appz yet, because it doesn't seem to disturb working with device.

Until the phone starts having problems, why worry? With every new device there are threads like this with people obsessing over the amount of free RAM their devices show, but honestly you can just leave Windows Mobile to deal with the RAM itself and you'll never have a problem. There's no need to try and recover all the RAM that you think should be free. The OS will take care of it.
I have the same problem. My guess is it a memory leak in some apps. ITs no big deal, because there is lots of free memory and if it really bugs me, I can do a soft reset every now and then.
Yes, it is not a problem to me until now as there are plenty of RAM available!
I just curious about the kinds of program that consume the memory??
From my observation, WM OS is not doing the job of memory management well.

Clearing your browser cache will retrieve some of it
(unless you have it to cache to the storage card)
I don't bother too much with this as it does not seem to become a problem.
But, I don't "load and leave" applications. I also generally do a soft reset once a week.
However, in SK Tools there is a "FreeUP RAM" application as part of the suite. I just ran it and it recovered 2 mbytes (a bit less than 1 %)
@ Swantony001 :
Hi, there is a thead about stopping Active-Sync activating itself all the time.
Works perfectly for me.

Greetings,
go42
the memory leak does cause problems for me, well with tomtom7 it does. sometimes i get the message "not enough memory" unpon booting TT and am forced to do a soft reset.
its not often, but the fact it happens piddles me off!
Hi, guys!
I've noticed the same thing! Something consumes active memory!!!
I watched some processes... So "cprog.exe" and "device.exe" eat memory from time to time.
I use Soft Reset once a day or in two days.
If anyone gets a new WWE ROM with that bug being fixed, please, let me know .
Memory consumption is not a big problem now, but it's a bit annoying...

Damn never experienced this problem before *touches wood*
Yeah i have experience the memory leaking up starting from 38% to 44% in a matter of hours.
No biggie, but if it comes down to problems like jonajuna experienced then, yes that is a problem.

GS7 Unstable.

My Galaxy S7 (SM-G930V) Running Baseband APD2 on Android 6.0.1 Has had issues with Multiple Applications Constantly Crashing, On Nebulous it takes me back to the home screen randomly, and on youtube videos they randomly close. I've tried clearing the cache from the recovery and storage. I haven't rommed/rooted my phone either. Could anyone try explaining why this happens? Its super annoying because I just Transferred from a iPhone 5S. I have had the phone for about two months and this is a wonderful welcome back to android... I am trying to avoid a factory reset but it I have to I will, but I'd Prefer that that doesn't happen.
For the vast majority it is a problem free phone. Have you tried a factory reset? It is a pain, but usually clears up the weirdness.
I never find it too much of a pain for myself to do a factory reset. I use the Google Now launcher and it remembers the apps I have installed. So after a wipe, my apps will still be on all of my screens, but just black and white letting me know they haven't been installed yet. I don't install any apps onto my SD card, all of my contacts are backed up to Google, and all of my pictures and videos are stored on my SD.
Maybe you could set up the same just to have your apps reinstalled which is honestly the worst part? I would not recommend backing up the data of the apps due to not knowing what is exactly causing the problem, so do that at your own risk.
Same thoughts as here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67523356&postcount=16
Sometimes its an app that isn't properly supported by the developer or updated by the user that can cause other issues elsewhere.

A2017 4GB/128GB/B11 Random Restarting & Other Issues

1 - 2GB seems to be an upper limit on the RAM. When I clear apps from task list, it always says X of ~1.8GB. Anyone else have this issue?
2 - Experiencing random restarts, probably once every few days. Couple of times happened during a Skype conversation but probably chance. I thought it might be RAM related (above), but it doesn't always happen after long run-times.
3 - Using most audio apps I get a mini-stutter. The only workaround I've seen is PowerAmp increasing buffer size which eliminates it for that app. This does seem to be linked with RAM usage as clearing app list and force closing the audio app to restart will get rid of it. Anyone else?
I've tried clearing both cache through TWRP, hasn't helped. I had to clear data previously through TWRP and re-install an A2017 image which I then rooted. Possibly something got messed up, my only other thought is to restore to stock and to see if it continues.
Any other ideas, or does anyone have the same issues?
Thanks for the help.
Replace it

My A2017G was restarting randomly daily, would freeze even when changing font size... it was a dud!
After trying numerous factory resets and just using all stock apps (did not load any apps from Google Playstore) it still was problematic. I contacted ZTE through Facebook and built a written account of the problems and their reply.
Then I took my phone and print outs of ZTE's replies to the retailer and they replaced the phone. My replaced one works fine.
I have heard that if you have enabled Developer Options do not enable Force GPU or any hardware options as this may cause deeper issues.
So in short build a case around your phones faults and take it back for replacement. No phone in 2016/2017 should be this dodgy during normal use.
Cheers
Aussie
Will be somewhat problematic as I took a gamble with an aliexpress order, but will try and see if they help. Thanks.
But I'm interested if besides restarts, other people have had the same issues, namely:
* Limited RAM availability (2 of 4GB)
* Occasional stutter on audio (posted this on reddit as well, got like 8 upvotes but no solutions, so I suspect it's not just me).

Mobile phone is very slow and feels lagging

Hi,
For the last couple of days, I am feeling like my mobile has become very slow or lagging. It appears that ram management is bad, sometimes can't run even few common application in the background. Navigation appears very slow.
I am using 4GB version, latest os with may security update. Mobile is not rooted .
I tried clearing cache partition and tried clearing cache of most application. But nothing improved .
Please help me guys!
Is badly placed screen guard affects performance? I have air bubbles Along the side.
Umm.. screen protectors don't affect the phone's performance in any way. But it is possible that you might get touch related issues with a badly placed one which is very rare.
Does your internal storage have enough space left?
Have you installed a lot of apps?
Check if any app is constantly running in the background.

In internal I have nearly 15GB left.
No. I didn't install that many app. Always have more than 1 GB RAM left. There maybe many apps syncing in the background though.

My S5e has been restarted randomly in every 6-8 hours, what to do to fix it?

I got Tab S5e a month ago. It was a 128 GB/6 GB version. Okay, since the day I picked it up, it works great and functions very well but it restarts randomly like twice a day.
What can I do to prevent this?
Clear system cache and try a hard reboot.
Try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app.
Any recently installed or uninstalled apps or updates?

I only have Telegram, Twitter, Keep Notes, Groove Coaster, Mario Kart, Mana, and Discord installed.
Still on UI 3.1 and Android 11.

I never allow any social media apps to be installed... they are malware by their very nature.
Check for memory leaks. That could cause that type of behavior.

Google for the button combination.
Clear system cache is found on the boot menu.
A hard reset is sometimes called a soft reset and stimulates pulling the battery. On many Androids it's done by holding the power button down for 20-30 seconds until it reboots.
I've never seen a memory leak on an Android and once on an Apple app. More common on Window machines. The ram usage will kept creeping up until it runs out of ram and reboots.
The app causing it will show it in its memory usage in Developer options. Pretty easy to spot.
A poorly coded 3rd party app is usually the cause.

I already did clear system cache which was successful and I gave it a day to see if it worked out but it didn't. It's still rebooting random every 6 hours especially when I'm not on it.

Does it happen in safe mode?
If so either the firmware is corrupted or it's a hardware failure. How old is the battery, it's current capacity? Did you check for a memory leak?

I haven't set it on Safe mode.
How old is the battery? I got it off Amazon one month ago. The battery is just good and the battery life lasted so good and it never drains. I never used the tablet while it's charging.

Oh yes, my S5e would stay up to about 11 hours until it restarted itself randomly.
And sometimes it restarts suddenly for like every 2 hours.
So I've switched it to the safe mode to see if it happened in Safe Mode or not but unfortunately, that tablet was up for 5 hours during Safe mode until it restarted itself again.
