Blackberry Clones the Idol4s - Onetouch Idol 3 General

blackberry's new android phone the DTEK50 is a rebranded Alcatel Idol 4s with a custom chipset.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36883237
http://uk.blackberry.com/smartphones/dtek50-by-blackberry/buy.html

Welp it aint a clone if it has a custom chipset. It's the Idol 4s body and that's it.

It's made by tcl, who makes Alcatel, so not actually a clone.

It's the blackberry version of the idol 4.

blackberry version means same internals, just the android os with blackberry security. From reading into the phone it states a completely different chipset inside the body. Therefore it's an Idol 4 exterior with custom interior and software.......simply not an Idol 4

and it has a 5.2" screen..

Welp after a bit more looking it's the Idol 4. It stated in a few articles they were going to use a different chipset than the Snapdragon 617 used in the Idol 4, but they have released it using the exact same chipset without any tweaks to speak of. Only difference is the DTEK50 is secure whereas the Idol 4 isn't. Only difference.

You can preorder it from blackberry for $299 NO VR HEADSET. Now I wonder what will happen if you use Mobile upgrade Q will it allow you to install the Idol 4 firmware.

Nexus 4 or Samsung Galaxy S4?

http://www.popherald.com/20121117_iphone_5s_vs_samsung_galaxy_s4_myth-20855
Nexus 4 has google experience but no LTE, extSD
Samsung tends to have LTE and extSD...but based on the article the S4 will match Verizon Droid DNA 440ppi, but OLED so even better than Droid DNA...that's going to be one kickass phone to have. Downside is probably have to wait for 4 months (until CES 2013) and no google experience.
Worth the waiting?
440ppi overrated?
If you need/want to replace your phone now, get the Nexus 4. If you're planning on waiting at least six months, you'll probably want to look for something else, phone hardware is constantly being one-upped by the newest release.
Are you honestly asking if you should get a phone that won't be released for another 6+ months?
Good luck with that.
Are you able to get it at upgrade price? If not then is LTE (if you have at&t. If you have T-Mobile you may be waiting for a while to get LTE) and expandable storage worth an extra $300+. If you can afford to pay the difference than it's up to your preference

Could be six months before he can add an n4 to the play store shopping cart so that question isn't too far fetched

How about the Nexus 5 vs Galaxy S5, any recommendations?
I think nexus8 will be the best choice. S10 also not bad.
Really do not understand why people gonna compare something doesn't exist.
If nexus 4 or note2. I think will be better.

The specs sound tempting...I decided I'll just buy the N4, then sell it later on craigslist if I want that new device.

the nexus4 is $299 right now with no contract
the s4 will most likely be in the $600+ range when it comes out and by then the n4 could see a $50 price drop...
so you are comparing a $250 phone vs a $600 phone

I don't see why people label phones based on their price. Do you honestly think any of today's phones are worth what they cost? HECK NO.
Google did something extreme here. They offered a FLAGSHIP unlocked device for a REASONABLE price which is something that hasn't been done. I don't care what you say, no Galaxy phone is worth $600. It's an EXTREME price markup. And no, a higher markup doesn't mean the phone is higher quality (plastic junk that is the current S III).
s3 > nexus 4 in terms of build quality and probably everything else
obviously s4 will blow nexus 4 out of water
I have no money to buy the Galaxy S4 T_T
I think it will be too expensive!
The Nexus 4 is better.
Sorry about my bad English!
Stupid comparison, comparing the nexus 4 to a phone that isn't arriving til summer 2013 based on their past 3 galaxy phones and their release dates.
You might aswell ask Galaxy s4 vs Nexus 5 as that's the same timeframe difference!

N4 or S4 that's a good question !
I wanted N4 now to replace my sgs2, but we may need to wait a month to get it, and rumors around the s4 are growing fast since the coming out of iphone 5 and nexus 4 ! It could be presented in january but more likely in february (in any case sooner than usual).
What we know : samsung as developped a thinner 64gb drive and more powerfull, getting its exynos 5 quadcore ready and mali t658, invested 1billions in oled fhd screens, referenced recently a 4"99 screen with 441ppp, they are now ok with induction charging, and we also know samsung is going to realese the s4 quicker (february). Forgot the flexible screen for early 2013, I don't know how they can integrate it in a fonctionnal daily use.
Also, adreno 320 is one of the first compatible with next opengl es 3.0, wich 2 year old mali 400 is not !
I can imagine the mali t658 if realesed will give a huge kick in the ass of adreno 320
So nexus 4 350 coins in a month for best performance of the year, or wait 2 months for s4 announcement of a product that will kick everybody's ass... that's a good question.
I've been dispointed by samsung this year : 1go ram in s3, mali 400 and low resolution in note 2, I really hope they gonna be perfect in 2013 !!
(Not the point here but have you seen their screens for 2013 ?? Transparent, flexible, high resolution oled etc... )
Last point, if we all die on december 21th, just get a N4 ^^

I sense a strong amount of fanboyism and biasm. Also not sure why you're posting here if you're already completely dismissing the device. This is coming from someone who owned a plasticky S3 and well aware of its build quality, as well as owning the SII, Note and Nexus and various other Samsung.

It began with the intervieuw of an official samsung employee in the korea times when iphone 5 came out. But you're right nobody knows, it could be next week, it could be never ! it is not because apple is lost since steve jobs'death that samsung has to bring new products every 6 months !!
Also s3 isn't > N4, look at ram, gpu, opengl es 3.0 support for next gen, plastics...:good:

What phone do you use alongside your note 8?

Just ordered my Note 8 (3G version).
I've had the iPad mini previously and I've been wondering for a while, what is the ideal tablet/phone combo. I'm presuming that I'm not going to use the Note 8 as a phone very often, so I'm going to be carrying around 2 devices most of the time.
I've currently got a Galaxy S3 which I'm very happy with, but I do wonder if the 2 devices will be too similar. I've considered getting a small, cheap phone to use just for calls and texts and using the tablet for everything else, but I don't have the tablet with me all the time, so I do need something that has a decent browser and a camera.
I'd be keen to hear your thoughts. I'm sure this topic must have been discussed before, but I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.
I was just thinking of posting a very similar question.
I'm currently using a blackberry curve 9360. Its an OK companion as I can use it as a mobile hotspot and allow my note 8.0 to access the web through it. I love it as a communications device. Good for calls, strong signal, good battery life, small and the keyboard is great for sms and other messenger services. where it falls down is apps though. There are a few available but nothing seems to work very well.
Im weighing up the convenience of the keyboard to the benefits of useful apps at the moment. If I were to get an android phone, id need to be able to use it as a hotspot, which i think i can do, and it would need to be small enough to fit in my pocket, so about 4 inch screen maximum. There doesnt seem to be any high end devices at that screen size though, Just lite versions of their larger siblings.
My contract isnt due for renewal until december so I have a while to search and contemplate though.

Oh and I like the near 6" screen size too

Best phone/tablet combo? Padfone.
I'm using the S4 currently. Not sure there is really any device with a huge advantage when paired with the Note 8. Personally I think just sticking with Android and Samsung between the devices is best. At least this way you can use more of the Samsung share features and of course all your purchased apps on both devices.

I use this combo also, note 2 with my note 8. To answer your question, for me it's not so much a matter of designating each device to its own app per say, but more a matter of convenience. Basically, I reach for the 8 whenever I can, even for texting (mighty text), but when it's just quicker/easier, I go with the 2.

i've got the sprint galaxy note 2 and a verizon s4. i kept sprint when i picked up verizon (just before killing unlimited data) b/c i'm on a $50/mo sero plan. i should have gotten the note 2 for verizon also. s4 is nice, but i like the bigger screen on the note 2. maybe i'll get the note3 on verizon as long as they're root & unlock it and then sell my s4. i really should just drop sprint as their service in my area is total crap.
I use a S3 and a S4. I like the phones for all the things they do so well. The Note 8 was a impulse purchase due to AT&T having a bundling promotion when I purchased the S4. It replaces a Tab 2 7" and it far superior in display and I find the S Pen to be a real joy for use with spread sheets, drawing programs and the like.

Because it's still a very competent device and beats most low-mid end smartphones currently available. For example, if you want something cheap, but with good performance, you can get a Moto G for $200USD. Or a Moto G LTE for $220. But you can also get a Nexus 4 off eBay for $220, and it has a faster processor with a better GPU, and 2GB RAM vs 1GB. It's much better than the HTC Desire 510 (Sprint) and 610 (AT&T), Samsung Galaxy Avant (T-Mobile), Galaxy S3 and S4 Mini's (AT&T)...pretty much any phone under $300.
The Snapdragon S4 Pro, S4 Plus, and S600 are all discontinued, so manufacturers are stuck using the S400 with Adreno 305, an inferior SOC to the S4 Pro on the Nexus 4. Antutu Benchmark scores for S400 chip phones get under 18000, while the Nexus 4 will get 24000+ stock.
It's also a a pretty sexy device.
Just because it's up there doesn't mean anyone will buy it. I have seen the original G1 on eBay for the same price as a note 3. It's probably still there.

Good point. I haven't searched much on Craigslist for phones, but when I did, I noticed that people had unrealistic expectations for their phones, when compared to eBay or Swappa prices.
Well because it's worth it. In lower mid range it beats everything well head to head with moto x on the price but way ahead in specifications. Other then that the size, size is just perfect I can't imagine holding a device bigger then nexus 4 it just doesn't feels right.

Also it has good developer support as it is a nexus device and is running the latest android version to this date. Much better then any other mid-range device.

Why would you buy this if you can get the same and more with the LG v20
Yes! It's really gorgeous....I love it!
i do have to admit that for years, i claimed i would buy new a Htc phone if it was within phablet territory and Qhd.
the no audio jack is such a stupid FAIL though.

It's also bigger then the pixel XL and v20 by size (obvisoly bigger that the note 7).
No AMOLED and smaller battery.
I wanted to buy this so much but there are so many stupid mistakes.
The headphone jack.is not a big deal.since there is an adapter which is not an issue.
I am thinking of buying this phone, I currently have a Huawei P9 Plus. However the delay in availability, the relatively small battery and lack of 3.5mm jack doesn't make it certain for me. The LG G6 or Samsung Galaxy S8 could convince me otherwise in the next month or so.

I bought it. I had the V20 and their support is crap. HTC over the years has given me far better support than LG has. I ended up forcing T-Mobile to allow me to return my V20 and ended up buying an iPhone since I don't like Samsung.
I understand it doesn't have the 835 and doesn't make me a sandwich but if it provides me with a clean experience like I had with the 10 I would be glad. So far HTC has provided me with a overall better experience than LG and Samsung has given me. I will give it to Samsung about the Note 7 being the best device they made in a while.

Why not buy from HTC.com in the US site, it says releases mid March which is only few weeks away. Generally global HTC phones don't have all three US LTE bands. If I were you I would purchase from US site since it also has the OH Oh protection if you break the phone.

This or 935f (s7 edge exynos)?

I need a phone to replace my aging and failing Note 4.
The question is: get this OP5 6/64 or S7 edge exynos (935f). Both are apparently rootable and bootloader unlockable from what I can tell. I understand it's exynos vs sd835 and 2k screen vs 1080 but I find the s7 more refined (and waterproof, I'm from Florida and I'm constantly on the water)
Talk me in or out of either.
Thanks.

Compared photos on gsmarena, S7 has better camera.
I think battery should be comparable, 400 mAh less, but SD835 is better at battery savings .

Here's a few reasons to go with the OP5.
Unlocking the bootloader and rooting the device does not void your warranty. It does with the s7.
Snapdragon 835 will outperform that Exynos processor in this case.
Oxygen OS constantly updated
Dual sim
S7 reasons
If you need VR, the S7 has a 2K screen.
S7 is IP68.
Photos are likely to be great on both.
