Nexus 4 has google experience but no LTE, extSD
Samsung tends to have LTE and extSD...but based on the article the S4 will match Verizon Droid DNA 440ppi, but OLED so even better than Droid DNA...that's going to be one kickass phone to have. Downside is probably have to wait for 4 months (until CES 2013) and no google experience.
Worth the waiting?
440ppi overrated?
If you need/want to replace your phone now, get the Nexus 4. If you're planning on waiting at least six months, you'll probably want to look for something else, phone hardware is constantly being one-upped by the newest release.
Are you honestly asking if you should get a phone that won't be released for another 6+ months?
Good luck with that.
Are you able to get it at upgrade price? If not then is LTE (if you have at&t. If you have T-Mobile you may be waiting for a while to get LTE) and expandable storage worth an extra $300+. If you can afford to pay the difference than it's up to your preference

How about the Nexus 5 vs Galaxy S5, any recommendations?
I think nexus8 will be the best choice. S10 also not bad.
Really do not understand why people gonna compare something doesn't exist.
If nexus 4 or note2. I think will be better.

LOL. Ok I get it.
The specs sound tempting...I decided I'll just buy the N4, then sell it later on craigslist if I want that new device.

the nexus4 is $299 right now with no contract
the s4 will most likely be in the $600+ range when it comes out and by then the n4 could see a $50 price drop...
so you are comparing a $250 phone vs a $600 phone

I don't see why people label phones based on their price. Do you honestly think any of today's phones are worth what they cost? HECK NO.
Google did something extreme here. They offered a FLAGSHIP unlocked device for a REASONABLE price which is something that hasn't been done. I don't care what you say, no Galaxy phone is worth $600. It's an EXTREME price markup. And no, a higher markup doesn't mean the phone is higher quality (plastic junk that is the current S III).
s3 > nexus 4 in terms of build quality and probably everything else
obviously s4 will blow nexus 4 out of water
I have no money to buy the Galaxy S4 T_T
I think it will be too expensive!
The Nexus 4 is better.
Sorry about my bad English!
Stupid comparison, comparing the nexus 4 to a phone that isn't arriving til summer 2013 based on their past 3 galaxy phones and their release dates.
You might aswell ask Galaxy s4 vs Nexus 5 as that's the same timeframe difference!

N4 or S4 that's a good question !
I wanted N4 now to replace my sgs2, but we may need to wait a month to get it, and rumors around the s4 are growing fast since the coming out of iphone 5 and nexus 4 ! It could be presented in january but more likely in february (in any case sooner than usual).
What we know : samsung as developped a thinner 64gb drive and more powerfull, getting its exynos 5 quadcore ready and mali t658, invested 1billions in oled fhd screens, referenced recently a 4"99 screen with 441ppp, they are now ok with induction charging, and we also know samsung is going to realese the s4 quicker (february). Forgot the flexible screen for early 2013, I don't know how they can integrate it in a fonctionnal daily use.
Also, adreno 320 is one of the first compatible with next opengl es 3.0, wich 2 year old mali 400 is not !
I can imagine the mali t658 if realesed will give a huge kick in the ass of adreno 320
So nexus 4 350 coins in a month for best performance of the year, or wait 2 months for s4 announcement of a product that will kick everybody's ass... that's a good question.
I've been dispointed by samsung this year : 1go ram in s3, mali 400 and low resolution in note 2, I really hope they gonna be perfect in 2013 !!
(Not the point here but have you seen their screens for 2013 ?? Transparent, flexible, high resolution oled etc... )
Last point, if we all die on december 21th, just get a N4 ^^

I sense a strong amount of fanboyism and biasm. Also not sure why you're posting here if you're already completely dismissing the device. This is coming from someone who owned a plasticky S3 and well aware of its build quality, as well as owning the SII, Note and Nexus and various other Samsung.

It began with the intervieuw of an official samsung employee in the korea times when iphone 5 came out. But you're right nobody knows, it could be next week, it could be never ! it is not because apple is lost since steve jobs'death that samsung has to bring new products every 6 months !!
Also s3 isn't > N4, look at ram, gpu, opengl es 3.0 support for next gen, plastics...:good:

Hello, this is my first post as I have just sold my ip5 and moving over to android. The poor performing maps and siri were the straw that broke this camels back. I don't have the time and confidence that apple may get it up to googles standard, especially not on a device that costs over £500.
I have never owned an android before but would love some advice as to whether my first one should be a nexus 4 or samsung galaxy S3.
I intend to use it for games and photos etc. so performance is a huge factor for me.
Thanks for all advice in advance.
I am selling my galaxy s3 for the nexus. The nexus is faster, smoother, will have better updates and also will have build quality closer to the iPhone.

Um well the Galaxy 3 is an old low end device. Not good at all. The Galaxy S3 however is a different story.
Both are quad core phones. So both should be plenty fast. We can't say the exact performance of the Nexus yet as it hasn't been released and the software is still in beta. The Nexus does cost only half the S3 so that's worth keeping in mind
*samsung Galaxy S3!
Haha Galaxy 3 is a very old android
Get The Nexus.
Wait until the N4 is in shops and then go and see both in person - the issue with posting here is that people are likely to tell you to go for the N4...Personally, I don't like the S3's design - the buttons are too low to be comfortable to use with one hand

The s3 has all the (potential) downsides of he N⁴ covered; removable battery, sd card, bigger storage and LTE. If (one/some of) these are important/crucial to you get the galaxy s3. If not, I'd say go for the N⁴.
P.S. AFAIK the s3 will take better pics, but IMHO the difference isn't big enough to warrant choosing it over the N⁴. This is based off of my memory of reviews, not personal experience.

Seconded, especially if we're talking off-contract.
Like others I am buying the N4 (currently have S3) and will likely be selling my S3 shortly after.
The S3 is a VERY nice phone, I almost have no complaints about the phone itself. For me the problem is myself, I get bored and want a new phone. Add in the amount of dev for a Nexus device compared to an AT&T locked phone, and getting updates first, I'm sold. Then tell me its only $350 vs the $550 I paid for the S3... well gee
I am actually taking a detour in between to try out the Note II or maybe even a Lumia 920 this Friday when they hit AT&T stores, but again just out of boredom / I'll make a little money on it (buying @ upgrade price and sell) and possibly to try out WP8 just for something different.
Nexus 4 IMHO :good:
Dude, we can't tell you what to buy. It's your choice.
If you don't mind Samsung's touch wiz and you want/need micro SD, removable battery, bigger screen, or 4g, by all means, go with Galaxy
If you want stock Android, up to date software and hardware, and you want that "nexus" experience, nexus 4 will suit you very well

Hey everyone,
I'm considering to buy a new Phone. My current phone is the HTC Desire, which I use for about 2.5 years now.
Would your recommend buying a Nexus 4 now or is it worth waiting for the X-Phone or the next Nexus device? Some sources claim, that we will see those devices around June, after Google's developer conference. I definitely want a pure Google device.
The thing that is holding me back is that it we are about to allot new gen devices in the near future, with the new iteration of specs. (1080p display, Snapdragon 600 and 800...) So it seems to be a good idea to wait another 3 months or so...
What do you think?
Newer technology is always around the corner, you will wait forever if you always wait for the Next Big Thing. How easy will it be to get one of these as-yet-unreleased phones, and how much will they cost?
The N4 is available right now, at a bargain price, and will be a big step up from your Desire ...

I think that all of those devices will be non nexus, bloated, at the mercy of the Manufacturer devices. And for what? More processing power to view your email? The screens may be nice tho. I don't see why you'd need 1080p on a less then 5in screen tho...
After owning this phone three weeks. I can't see going back to a carrier bloated samsung, HTC, or moto phone.
Look at the galaxy nexus, last year's hardware and it's still one of the smoothest and fastest phones because of pure android. The nexus 4 will hold its value too, it's only 349, don't buy the 8gb. You can always sell on ebay if you don't like it and come out even right now and I have a feeling n4 will keep selling on ebay for close to what you pay from Google. The only issues I have with the n4 is the camera is just not as good in poor lighting as my s3 was, other than that it's great. It's the best deal in Tech. Compared to the desire it's going to be ridiculous.

The right time is now OP. As others have said there is ALWAYS a newer phone with more impressive specs around the corner. With that mindset you will be waiting forever. I realize you dont want to buy the nexus 4 now and a few weeks later the next nexus device is announced. eh "such is life" OP
I'm pretty happy with mine. I'm coming from a Bionic.
I still probably will consider the x phone but this is certainly a solid enough device that I won't feel the need to jump ship the day it is released.

Right now I honestly don't think so. It has a lot of cool features, but most of them are software related. The phone isn't a big enough jump from the s3 (for me) hardware wise to justify paying full retail for it.
Says on CNET that software features will also come to the S3. I guess we just have to wait unless someone can adapt the S4 rom to the S3.
AW: Worth Upgrading From Galaxy S3

If none of these things apply to you then keep the S3. I take care of a S2 and apart from the screen resolution it is still cool.

Nope, not worth the upgrade.
Same question here, I'll wait for the reviews before deciding whether to upgrade or no.
Isn't really a jaw dropping Samsung Flagship Device
Well for me, it definitely was not a surprise to have a glimpse of the Galaxy S4 at that, much melodramatic, musical event.
As far as the design is concerned, iPhone 5 and HTC One are definitely ahead of the S4.
Body Casing: The Galaxy S4 is crafted from poly-carbonated material while the OmniBalance design with which the Sony Xperia Z is equipped seems more attractive.
Display: The S4 has a 441 ppi display which lags behind the HTC One display which stands at 468 ppi. Even the resolution is matchable with the HTC flagship phone!
Samsung Hub: Sorry for this mate too. Nothing's better than the BlackBerry Hub, at least for now.
So overall, this phone is not the supreme king of the smartphones which exist today. I would say that at this moment, this was not required and the Sony, HTC and BlackBerry flagship devices are definitely a better option for you.
I'm thinking of selling my galaxy note 2 to buy an s4 is it worth it. I love the note 2 but I also like having the latest phones. I have an s2 still and love it. I'm always changing ROMs as i do with my note and have had no problem with them at all hmmm decisions decicions ?

Design is subjective, and after owning the beautiful, and well built Nexus 4, I have to admit that I'm missing the plastic I had on my Galaxy Nexus. My Galaxy Nexus survived countless drops, and still looks almost new. I've been extremely lucky with my Nexus 4.
PPI means nothing. They both have 1920x1080 displays, the SGS4 simply has a larger 4.99" panel while the HTC One has a 4.7" panel.
The international version is ahead of both the HTC One and iPhone 5 with its Exynos 5 Octa, and more importantly its PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU that's clocked at 533mhz.
It is really not worth upgrading at all - software things are coming to SGS4 - nothing new.
Hardware - also nothing :\
Buy a new computer/TV or something or wait till the next galaxy. Try HTC maybe (something different).
Im only upgrading because I have a Verizon SIII and I'm leaving the US in 3 weeks. I'm gonna need an international version although the VZW SIII works overseas.

Depends on your carrier. If I was a betting man, I'm betting the radio on the Verizon one sucks so I'd be more likely to pick the DNA. That being said if by some miracle after more than one useless Samsung phone on Verizon e.g. Galaxy Nexus, if the receiver/antenna is actually fixed I would consider it as the PDA side of their phone is great. If you are on another carrier besides Verizon the phone might work well. It seems like Samsung hates Verizon for some reason.

Yes on a 50 a month, the device itself costs about $580 plus tax and shipping about $610, anyways the nexus 4 I will have to pay 50 a month to use it too, so nexus is $299 + $10 shipping and about $23 tax is about $342 vs $610 of the S4

Hi, $300 difference is pretty big The Nexus 4 has A S4 Pro CPU and S4, 600 Snapdragon, so added to to that you a paying 300 more for a Bigger screen, 1080p AMOLED, 13 MP camera and faster Processor also faster LTE and HSPA+
I have both phones I would not worry about specs. The N4 out performs s4 any day of the week. It also looks premium and much nicer. However it has no SD card, crappy battery life compared to s4 and even a crappier camera plus no LTE which are some major negatives. If you don't care about those things then N4 is better.
It's up to you to get the phone, Think about it, You are going to have a phone for a long time so better if you get the best instead of getting stuck with what the nexus 4 can only offer. I do have the S4 and If you have the money go for it in The long run the 300 dollars are 100% worth it. Trust me

Here is a good breakdown on the differences: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-Galaxy-S4,Google-Nexus-4/phones/7597,7531
For me it came down to extras not justifying the expense. For others it may be worth it. Main differences IMHO are 13MP vs 8MP camera, 5" Supset AMOLED vs 4.7" IPS LCD display, microSD card slot and branded vs unbranded android.

if you like waiting forever for updates then get the s4. if u like to be on the latest and greatest version of android then get the n4. :highfive:
If I remember correctly, the gs4 may be released on the play store with stock android soon.
That said, I have an n4 on t-mobile with lte enabled & I just recently bought my mom a gs4 on Verizon. They are both very nice phones. I prefer the n4 but the gs4 is impressive as well.
I don't think you can go wrong with either phone except that a branded gs4 will inevitably suffer in the update department.
If possible, I would recommend stopping by a T-Mobile store where you should be able to play around with both phones to see if either stands out to you.
Good luck!

I wouldn't recommend the GS4 to anyone - it's a complete lagfest.
The N4, even though 6 months older still remains the fastest and smoothest phone out there.
For the price of a GS4 you could buy the Nexus 4 right now and even the Nexus 5 in Oct/Nov if Google keep their prices the same.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Snapdragon S4p and S600 are identical GPU wise and are not very far when the N4 is on an appropriate ROM with optimizations. In the benchmark thread here people score 23K+ in antutu. Anyway I would not spend over $200 more for just a alight spec bump when the nexus is a better value.

That's true. But the way I look at it is a bit different. The price difference is 300$; which is another nexus. Assuming the nexus 5 is going to be priced at $300. I will have a n4 and a n5 for roughly the same price as one s4. Regardless, you cannot go wrong with either choice. Both are great phones
Seriously who would even consider buying a Samsung device over a N4.
Even with those better specs, they mean nothing. Who cares over a 1080p screen, 13mp, and whatnot. The difference is marginal and for most not even noticable.
So save your money, buy an N4. And stop getting excited over the latest specs, because they're marginal improvements anyway.
Might as well be a fanboy and go and buy a new Apple/Samsung phone each year then and be a dipstick and waste 700 euro on phone's that are produced for less then 100 euro, just because it has something "new and ""great"" that the N4 doesn't have.
Bought my N4 last months, it has specs that will last another 2-3 years for most.
You should probably wait because there is going to be an s4 with the snapdragon 800 SoC.
I have the i9500 variant and my friend who has a note 2 asked if I wanted to trade. I know Note 3 is very near so even if I get the Note 2 I'd have to sell it instantly. I am on vacation in India and checked the prices.
Galaxy S4's, new ones cost about 35,000INR. Used ones sell for about 30,000INR.
Note 2's sell for 31,000INR. Used Note 2's sell at about 18,000INR.
I checked how iPhone was doing and saw.
iPhone 4S 16GB, new costs about 25,000 and used costs 20,000.
iPhone 4 16GB, new costs about 37,000INR and used for about 35,000INR.
So I am in a dilemma. I have about $60 worth of accessories with my S4 which I'd obviously giveaway. I do not wanna invest 10,000 more and buy a current highend device. I am eyeing the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra but they say the display isn't nice. And Sony resale/support isn't good. HTC One is nice too but I think its expensive and HTC isn't good with updates.
So what should I do? How much should I sell my Galaxy S4 for? My friends offering me the Note 2 AND 15,000INR. So can anyone tell me how much would a 2 month old used Note 2 sell for?
Should I do it? If so, what should I replace my S4 with. I am thinking to get iPhone 4S and wait till Note 3 is out and sell iPhone 4S for Note 3.
I chose Apple cause they have good resale prices. I am thinking about getting the Nexus 4 too.. are their resale prices good too? betting on Nexus is risky as Google does price cuts wayyy often and there hasn't been a new Nexus in a while.
I need a good temporary phone that will sell well in about 3-4 months.
Opinions?
Note 2 is a bit of a niche phone. A lot of people can't deal with the size so obviously the s4 will have better resale value.
Unless there is a reason you don't want the s4 anymore then I'd just stick with that.

If i were you, id stick to my S 4 till the note 3's up for grabs.price wise, i see the galaxy s 4 price is still high tho it was released few months ago.But its your call mate, decide what suits you best.
I guess I'll keep S4. Note 2 internals are bad too... but for some reason it is tempting.
I do love my S4 though.
Silentrazor why are you even comparing prices? If you have issues with your phone cool.. Why sell your high spec phone for older tech?

Note 2 internals are not bad they are just not as good as the s4. I do understand why you are tempted ... I have both phones and am finding it hard to sell one of them as they are both great. At the end of the day though the s4 is much more popular and will be easier to recuperate money on later.

As long as it gives you what you need... Theres no reason to change your phone...
I would definitely keep the S4. It's a fine device.
Weird that the iPhone 4s sells for less than the 4. Or maybe you got it the other way round.
But anyway, if you like the note 2 it wouldn't be such a bad idea considering he's also paying you cash on top. Personally I prefer the S4 and wouldn't trade for any available phone.

If you think the bigger screen and longer lasting battery is worth, it then go for it. But remember the note has a weaker camera and isn't full 1080p HD

Wait for the Nexus 5, if its anything like the LG G2 looks and the same specs it will be the hottest device around running KLP.
I think you should keep S4 till the next generation. Think about it, you're changing your phone within less than a year!! S4 is still a beast device, so why not hold up with it a little more? I bet your warranty (if not rooted/unlocked) is still there!! Do you want my advice?
Wait for Note IV or something like this
Your device can still keep up with current generation and even further
Also, if you're really going to buy the Note III, sell the device to your friend, get a 50$ cheap one, and then buy the Note III! I think it's better than investing in a good phone and selling it later.

Seriously? I am reallly considering the Z but lets see.
Holding onto my S4 as most of you suggested. I thought about selling my S4 and the Note 2 I get and get a very cheap phone till thenote 3 is announced then invest into it. I'll let you all know what happens. But for now I have my S4.

Yeah really... I had the Z but it overheats too much and I don't think the camera is better than the S4's camera... and Sony UI doesn't have that small cool features like air view if u like...
