After CM update, S4 became useless - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good morning.
After update from cm-13.0-20160723-NIGHTLY to cm-13.0-20160724 system and most of apps crashes. I waited for new build with hope that it will repair this problem, but today when I was trying to download update, I got message that Download manager app cannot download it, so I downloaded update to PC.*When*I was plugging my S4, I didn't get any answer that my S4 is plugged into PC! My S4 was only charging from PC. Okay. Then I tried send this .ZIP file from my PC to S4 via Bluetooth, but transfer failed! My next try was downloading update via Google Chrome. Unexpectedly it worked, but when I was looking for this .ZIP*file*to flash it in recovery, I didn't found it, but I*found an old build, which I downloaded a year ago, so finally I flashed it. System was rebooting for over a dozen minutes and nothing else, so I came back to cm-13.0-20160724, but now it totally f**ked up, because I can't reboot S4 to recovery! What the f**k is going now and how can I fix it?
Thanks a lot for any help.

Fyi CM will be dead soon, so I hear. So don't expect too much from them in the near future.
You may always try to put your phone in download mode (3 button trick) and then flash latest custom recovery using the appropriate version of Odin. If it works for you, continue by powering your device off after flashing succesfully. Switch back on using 3 button trick to access recovery mode. While you at it, fully wipe the device (not usb otg). Don't root if prompted to. Then flash your choice of stock or custom rom.
Happy days!

Cm13 always bugy.use cm13 optimise build 20160618 from android original thread.I m using any bug.

Please be noted:
You're using bleeding-edge version of CyanogenMod. For the best experience and stability, use a stable build instead like Optimized CyanogenMod by JDCTeam for jfltexx or GearCM for i9500.

[Help] GT-7510 wifi froze after working fine and rebooting continuously

I successfully rooted my Tab from ICS to JB 4.1.2 a few days ago and it has been working fine. It suddenly froze in GMail app this evening. Held down power and attempted reboot. All fine until several revs of the CyanogenMod circle then it froze for a few seconds and then blank screened and rebooted with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 logo before going back to the CyanogenMod circle. Only stops the looping if I power from the mains. Battery is at about 55% and charging.
I have CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.5 and I installed JB from cm-10-20121112-EXPERIMENTAL-p4wifi.zip
Can anyone help? I'm new to rooting etc..
Many thanks,
Stuart

Many thanks for the reply SouthPhilly. It didn't work
There seemed to be a problem with formating /data. It just stopped when I tried it. Also stopped if I tried restore. The good news is that I did eventually overcome the problem by following qbking77's excellent info on
How to Unroot / Unbrick the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Latest at www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=KYBs98R9rTs with file info at
www dot qbking77 dot com/samsung-galaxy-tab-1012.html
which results in a stock original unrooted GT-7510. From there I rooted back into CWM recovery and reflashed CM10 so I'm back with a working version of 4.1.2
I hope this info may help others unfortunate enough to get stuck like me.
I'm now happy again.
Best wishes to all.
Stuart G3SNA (QTHR)
Well perhaps not quite so happy!
For some strange reason I could not get the USB port to work. It did with my first attempt at flashing to CM 10 - JB 4.1.2 days ago but not now. I have tried all ways several times so eventually I returned to the qbking77 version of the stock 3.2, copied my CWM backups back to the sdcard, then reinstalled CWM recovery and restored from the backup. I now have what appears to be a fully working tab with USB connectivity running 4.0.4 ICS again. I'll stay with this untill JB gets a bit more stable. You never know, pink pigs may fly and Samsung may issue an OTA update
Why didn't you flash a nightly instead of a ROM thats dated last month? The latest one runs fine on my p7510

Sent from my GT-I9100
I didn't know where to find the nightly files when I first did the root and rom flash. I just followed the links I could find using google. The whole thing looked good to start with and I ran it for the best part of a week before it froze up on me. I learned a lot in the last few days and now feel confident in what I'm doing. I did download last night's nightly this morning and flashed the rom. When I connected the usb cable to my pc failed to connect so I reverted to my original zip file thinking the nightly had an issue. Low and behold the usb cable connection failed with this as well. In both cases I did all the wipes and formats just like the first time. After that I gave up and decided to try to put my Tab back to ICS using the CWM backup I made as recommended before I started the first time. I'm no novice as far as computing is concerned but I haven't rooted an android device before.
If you take a look around the forums here you will find I am not the first to fail to find the nightly files. Perhaps a sticky with the link would be useful?

[Q] GT-i9500 has no OS installed.

Hi everyone I just recently purchased a used S4 the GT-i9500. Everything seemed fine until I got home. It detected my T-Mobile Sim fine but I could only access 2G data and could not connect to any WiFi network I came across. The rom was stock 4.2.2 and the phone was rooted pre purchase. So after fiddling around for a few minutes I discovered the previous owner had flashed TWRP v2.4.1.0 as his choice for a Custom Recovery. Now at this point I had decided to flash on a Custom Rom and of course I first made a backup before flashing on WanamLite. Now after attempting to flash it I immediately received a failure. I tried turning off the signature verification and it did not flash. Now in my frustration i attempted to wipe everything and tried flashing Omega Rom v14. Now i was able to go through with the installation and choose what I wished to install and when I pressed Install things went along smoothly until I hit the app SecSafetyAssurance.apk where it freezes. This is a bump that I've run into at least 5 times already. I changed certain options I wanted to install and eventually made it past this and I am prompted to reboot. Now when I do this to my dismay I just receive a black screen. Upon pulling out the battery and attempting to reboot I still receive a black screen. when I boot back into the Recovery and attempt to reboot the system from within TWRP it warns me saying No OS Installed Are you sure you want to reboot. Im at a loss of what to do. I have read about other members suggesting to use ODIN but I am very confused about how to access Download Mode in order to flash a stock rom from SamMobile.com. I could use a few tips or maybe a few options that I'm left with in order to obtain the operation of my phone again. I would like to get my phone back and Im sure some users can relate to how Im feeling so any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advanced!

Flashing through odin is one option.... some users have reported that there were some hiccups when installing omega 14 because of the aroma script.....try a different rom...there are many others to choose from....or you could flash stock via odin as said on the earlier comment good luck

Today I attempted to use ODIN to flash now I am still currently attempting this. When I press the volume down key, power, and home button it takes me to the custom recovery TWRP instead of download mode. The phone did this when I first purchased it. When I still had what appeared to be the stock rom it would always take me to the recovery. When I would use the volume up instead of down it would take me to the factory test mode now mind you this happened when the OS was still installed. When i try that combination now i just receive a blank black screen. Are there any other ways to boot into download mode?

Soft brick - Need some guidance

It's been awhile since I changed anything on this phone, I've been running CM11 with no issues. The wife was playing with my phone which is on cm12 and wanted me to upgrade it. Great, I hate having to touch her phone but ok.
1. Did a straight upgrade to CM12 nightly (couple nights ago build) with gapps from CM site. After the install everything crashes on the initial load, it's like the baseband is jacked and doesn't know how to handle the new google play services because everything crashes.
2. Went back and wiped internal everything this time, re installed nightly and gapps. No change.
3. Tried step 2 a couple more times and different gapps from PA and other random sites (micro, light, stock versions) and then TWRP just died on me. It's asking for a password when I first go in so now I'm stuck there. Tried to use ODIN to install the latest TWRP after converting it with another script found here (i'll find the link).
so, I'm probably going to have to use ODIN to restore some stock version of S4 ATT but I really don't know which one is stock that would work with CM12. I don't want to get caught in the safestrap crap of dual boot and whatever else. Any help is greatly appreciated.
You'll need to Odin the mdl firmware in Odin. Be careful as it will want to update itself after you flash it. See sammobile.com for the firmware.

Awesome, thanks!
Flashed the stock, towelroot, twrp from google play and cm12 nightly. Perfect and back where I left off. Thanks!!
Ok.. I did a bad thing I guess. after working for a couple weeks I tried to reset the phone while cm12.1 was installed. All it did was keep restarting TWRP and was stuck there. So I figured there was an issue with the twrp install or something whatever, I went to flash back to stock mdl in odin. Instead of selecting PDA I selected Phone and it failed on the first attempt. Then I selected PDA and it installed correctly (Said passed). Now I'm stuck on the AT&T logo on boot. I tried to reinstall the stock rom again and the same results. Where do I go from here??!?

Ok, factory reset worked on the second try. Sent it in to a boot loop on the first go around, odd. Thanks!

N910F problems - emmc read fail/ flashing stock no longer boots the phone.

Hello. I had gotten this Note 4 phone which had a custom recovery installed on it but the rom seemed to be official, on 5.1
The first thing I did was go to samfirmware and flash a 6.0.1 rom, it went fine, phone was working properly. Then I got greedy and wanted to test a Note 7 ported rom. Flashed TWRP recovery and from within I flashed RamROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/rom-sm-n910g-ramrom-t3400349 , I downloaded the one from post#2 , the N910F one that my phone is and after it flashed to ROM it simply stopped working. My phone no longer booted, was booting me directly into Download mode with emmc read error. I kept trying to flash the stock rom which I previously flashed and it would fail.
Afterwords I used Smart Switch to reinitialize the phone, writing my phones S/N and that failed as well but at least that made my phone boot into a different recovery where it said to connect to Kies. Once again I used Smart Switch and this time it was successful 100%. My phone even booted into the OS and was working, however, while using it, after 10 minutes the phone restarted into Download mode with emmc read error.
So all in all the phone is functional but it starts to lag and restart. Now I'm kinda stuck again since I've tried to flash the firmware I got from Samfirmware through Odin, it succeded but it just doesn't boot, it goes to Recovery, tries to apply an update and I get an error.
Is there anything I can do? I can't believe the emmc could've broken just from trying to flash that custom rom, especially that afterwards I was even able to boot into the phone.
Thanks for reading and I appreciate the help.

read this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/note-4-issues-t3453048
there are links to more threads related to your issue.
Short version though:
it is dying. install wake lock application, add it to start up and set settings to #4.
accept the fact that your phone will eat the battery faster and one day WILL die completely
Thanks for your response. Regarding the Wake lock application, I'm starting to look into it, I asume I'll have to be rooted. I'll try to recover it again using Smart Switch and then I can only hope I can install TWRP and still have it functional.
Previously when I was able to get it working with Smart Switch, entering the recovery messed everything up. It said it was applying an update and that got stuck.

no need to be rooted, just download, install and set it to autostart
I'll try it if I somehow manage to get the phone working again, Smart Switch just fails now midway through.

Is this the app you're talking about? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl&hl=en
What exactly does it do?
I managed to restore it eventually with Smart Switch, it took quite a few tries, then I switched to my Macbook when I saw the app was available on it too and the 3rd try succeded. I only did it because I saw the 2nd try had the % much higher than the first.

yes, that is the app.
i've read it does not allow your phone to go to sleep mode.
drains the battery faster, but this is the only way to keep note 4 working without swapping its motherboard...
I have a question, my gf recently bought a note 4 and we may swap our phones and if we do, i'll flash CM and tinker with it because i find this phone very interesting, just a question, does this bug affect the N910C (exynos) model? Do i have something to worry about? Because the phone is warrianty protected and if it's the case, i don't want to break it. I hope someone will shed some light on this

Is my phone bricked?

Hi!
So i've recently had some issues with my Samsung galaxy s8+
With the introduction of the new Pie Beta update i thought it would be cool to try it out!
I had to downgrade my firmware and so i did via ODIN.
This failed initially duo to a bad cable, i quickly replaced with OEM one.
Alright! We are able to boot into the OS, i stuck my SD card in the phone and updated its firmware succesfully.
HOWEVER; My phone would reboot once in a while out of nowhere and i figured i was on a Beta that might cause issues
started removing all of my apps in hopes it would help. Unfortunately in either safe mode OR clean factory wipe.. I was still running into reboots.
Alright ok, eventho no one on the forum complained about reboots.. I'll take my loss and i'll just flash back to stock..
However; it seems like the phone just freezes up now in everything!
Freezes up in Download mode; Freezes up during boot of new OS
i was able to reflash via ODIN by the way it just wont let me load into the OS. I've tried different ROMS
I can't wrap my head around it!
Should i just take my loss and buy a pixel 3 ? i was hoping to extend my contract with the new Samsung Galaxy S10+ but i can't do without a phone for a month.
Thank you in advance!
UPDATE:
I've succesfully been able to load into the OS at the moment. Let's see how long this lasts!
Aaand about 6 Minutes later i get a reboot
Yeaaah, it's dead.. After rebooting more and more frequent
It doesn't turn on anymore.
