Dear community,
I have one question, that hopefully can be answered easily.
I have currently installed CM13 Snapshot (cm-13.0-20160418-SNAPSHOT-ZNH0EAO2NN-ham.zip), and would like to update to a newer nightly build.
Is it possible to update without wiping all data from the phone in TWRP? Or must I wipe all data?
And when it is not necessary to wipe the data: is it necessary to flash GApps again in a package with the newer CM13? Are the settings and data on the phone lost after the flash? (GMail settings, Whatsapp chats, ...). I have no idea, and can't find any hints...
Thanks
Daniel
For fully functional nightly full wipe is recommended backup apps through titanium and that's it.

Hey guys.
I've actually installed NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.4 and want to update this to the new version 2.5!
What do i have to do to just update the rom instead of a fresh install? I want to keep my apps and Data.
There's no extra update File so i had to download the whole version, right? Some people say its possible to make only an update but none of them said how to do this.
Make a backup of your apps in Titanium Backup, download the new ROM, flash it over the old one, wipe cache and dalvik cache and you're good to go. Much more detail in this guide.
I have been using houstonn's 4.4 and now 4.4.1 ROMs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502789) and am happy, but I want to stay on the latest build without having to reinstall apps and everything every time. I want to install the 12/11 BETA build, but how do I keep my apps and settings and stuff?
Thanks for helping me out - perhaps obviously I am new to this stuff. Fun though!

If you want to flash a new nightly build all you have to do is wipe cache and davlik flash new build the wipe cache and davlik again then fix permissions.......recommend doing backup before and if you want to keep app data for anything in future Titanium backup can backup that...hope this helps
Also if the framework changes I recommend entire wipe or if Dev recommends.....

Thanks for the response. I have a couple of questions though.
1. For the backup - are you saying to use Titanium Backup to back up the apps and data and then restore the apps and data with Titanium Backup after updating?
2. If the Dev recommends entire wipe, is there any way to keep my apps and settings and stuff?
Thanks!

If its just new nightly builds you can dirty flash...wipe cche and davlik then flash then wipe cache and davlik ag again.
For your first question use Titanium backup for app data if you do have to do entire wipe ( system, data, cache and davlik).
If the Dev recommended entire wipe he prob knows best cause he built it......if your on the ROM and flashing a new nightly like I said just dirty flash and if you use twrp under advanced click fix permissions after flashing also
do not restore apps+appdata and then complain about weird stuff happening like wakelocks, laggs, battery, fc, etc

I am sure this is a stupid question, but I've looked and not found a definitive answer so I'll try here.
I have a LG G2 (AT&T) which I have rooted/clockwork/CM11. I did most of it when I had a failed OTA send me into a bootloop. (I had rooted the stock and removed some bloat which it didn't care for). I love CM11 however, there are some issues with the M5 build that I think are solved in the nightlies.
My questions are as follows:
(1) If I start flashing nightlies am I going to loose everything on my phone?
(1a) If so? How do people handle nightly flashes and always having a phone that needs setup?
(1b) If not, how do I flash the CM rom? I assume through recovery like I did before.
(2) Is there an easier way to backup and restore my setup to my phone?
(2a) I have titanium backup, and I have backed up all system and apps. However, I am not sure if restoring that will mess things up after flashing.
So basically, I'm looking to find out how people use the nightly builds and still have a mostly functioning phone on a day to day basis?
Thank you!
Before flashing a nightly for the first time:
You will need to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and data (user data--not internal storage).
Updating to the newest nightly:
You will only need to wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the new nightly. You will not lose your setup or apps. CM has its own OTA app that will automatically install new nightlies via your custom recovery (CWM or TWRP)

Thanks! I'm new to CM, and the thought of wiping my phone every evening was kind of scary.

Yeah once you're on nightlies, it's not a big deal. But after your FIRST flash of the nightlie, also be sure to flash the correct GApps package, which includes apps like the Google Play Store.
Hello everyone. What if I update cm12.1 by reverting to stock rom and flashing newer cm12.1 build? Would it make device and install cleaner? Or it is unnecesary and reverting back to stock is as clean as wiping everything? I feel kinda dirty while flashing cm12.1 updates by nikolaa one on top of another.
Then go wash your self.
It won't be any cleaner. Every time you install the rom you wipe needed partitions. When you install kernel you didn't need to wipe anything. From time to time (once in 3~6 months) even staying on same Android version it's recommend to wipe & apps (data partition).
Thanks for your answer
I updated a to a more recent CM13 Nightly which fixes an issue with Bluetooth stuttering. The downside is that it broke WiFi for me. From what I can tell, it means I need to update my Vendor Image, which I found here.
A couple of questions.
1) If I flash this, will it wipe me fully? Just want to know if this means a full restore of photos, apps, etc.
1a) If no, do I just download, flash, clear cache, good to go?
1b) If yes, do I flash the vendor image, then the ROM?
2) Which one of those do I use?
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

1) No, flashing the vendor doesn't wipe anything.
1a) Just download and flash, no need to wipe cache. Just note that you need to use the "install images" feature in the TWRP install menu, or just flash it with fastboot.
1b) See above.
2) My guess is that the ROM has been updated to the latest, so use the latest vendor image available for this device.
