How to update Android Rom? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey guys.
I've actually installed NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.4 and want to update this to the new version 2.5!
What do i have to do to just update the rom instead of a fresh install? I want to keep my apps and Data.
There's no extra update File so i had to download the whole version, right? Some people say its possible to make only an update but none of them said how to do this.

Make a backup of your apps in Titanium Backup, download the new ROM, flash it over the old one, wipe cache and dalvik cache and you're good to go. Much more detail in this guide.

Your backup will be saved. That is the purpose of CWM. We can easily try different builds without wiping out our previous build and data to go back them. This makes it easy to try different builds to see if you like them or not and revert back.
So.. if im installing new build i dont have to wipe my phone at all ? Just install it over the cwm, and then restore

Bachup-restore

Hello can anyone explain to me how to backup and after that restore data oh my android
Now i use TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 but now there is 4 versions new and i want to update.I read posts and people say that it's better to make fresh clean install, not update.
Ok i will.but cai i restore my aplications after that or i make install all of them again
Thank you
Do normal android backup via cwm, then wipe everything, flash new rom and after that go to the advanced restore and restore only data. But of course you can flash new rom directly and you will see if it's ok .
If it will be unsuccesful, you still have your backup ..
If you want to only restore your apps on the newer version, you could use Titanium Backup (from Android Market) to back up and restore the apps and their data caches.
I would first do a cwm backup, then back up the apps and their data with Titanium. Then flash the new ROM. Try first doing a custom restore -->data only, and if that doesn't work out for you, you can do a wipe and then install Titanium and at least restore your apps and their data caches.

Is it possible ?

hey guys,
i have one (very important to me) question.
I´m using MIUI ROMs on my HD2 and as you might know every week a newer version is comming out.
Yesterday i created a knew ext3 partition for my current ROM.
Can i flash the new ROM like an update or something else ? So i don´t have to create a new partition and install all apps again ?.... I am using of course MAGLDR and Clockwork Mod....
I would be glad to get an answer to this ...
Thanksss....
As long as it's just a newer version of the same rom, just go into CWM, go to backup/restore, and make a backup. Then flash the new rom, and then in CWM, go into backup/restore again, and do a custom restore, restoring only data and sd-ext.
Then the only difference you will notice is the new rom, not the loss of apps and data.
To update version of same MiUi Rom:
copy the new ZIP file to SD card.
reboot to recovery
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
DON'T WIPE DATA
Flash the new Zip file.
All your apps are there with the new ROM.

[Q] Install new build of ROM and keep apps and settings?

I have been using houstonn's 4.4 and now 4.4.1 ROMs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502789) and am happy, but I want to stay on the latest build without having to reinstall apps and everything every time. I want to install the 12/11 BETA build, but how do I keep my apps and settings and stuff?
Thanks for helping me out - perhaps obviously I am new to this stuff. Fun though!

If you want to flash a new nightly build all you have to do is wipe cache and davlik flash new build the wipe cache and davlik again then fix permissions.......recommend doing backup before and if you want to keep app data for anything in future Titanium backup can backup that...hope this helps
Also if the framework changes I recommend entire wipe or if Dev recommends.....

Thanks for the response. I have a couple of questions though.
1. For the backup - are you saying to use Titanium Backup to back up the apps and data and then restore the apps and data with Titanium Backup after updating?
2. If the Dev recommends entire wipe, is there any way to keep my apps and settings and stuff?
Thanks!

If its just new nightly builds you can dirty flash...wipe cche and davlik then flash then wipe cache and davlik ag again.
For your first question use Titanium backup for app data if you do have to do entire wipe ( system, data, cache and davlik).
If the Dev recommended entire wipe he prob knows best cause he built it......if your on the ROM and flashing a new nightly like I said just dirty flash and if you use twrp under advanced click fix permissions after flashing also
do not restore apps+appdata and then complain about weird stuff happening like wakelocks, laggs, battery, fc, etc

installing a rom

hello i have a quick question. I want to install optimus rom .My question is in order to install the rom i must do a full wipe which is to wipe delcache/cache/ data/system. But on the lgg2 d800 all my apps and games are stored on the sdcard partition of the internal storage. if i wipe everything will it also wipe these apps ? i dont care if it does im just asking because in the past i dont think it did. I think the rom installed and all my apps were still taking of space on my storage but i wasnt able o access them.
Also if i download the rom file to my phone how am i supposed to install it if i have to wipe the phone out? Am i supposed to use lg flash tool to get my phone back to stock ( meaning unrooted ) and then reinstall a kk rom then recovery ,root, then a new rom?
i only ask this because it seems like everythime i install the stock tot kitkat rom file here on xda theres always some issue with it.
It is generally advised to wipe data/cache/dalvik when flashing a new rom. When wiping your installed apps, messages, settings etc are deleted. Everything on your internal storage is not however.
Download the appropriate files,(Rom, gapps, etc), wipe and flash.
You can backup all your apps before flashing with Titanium backup, backup+, helium and so on..
If you are on stock you will need to root and install a recovery.. You'll find the appropriate guides in the forum..
Good luck.
