So my waterproof cover was closed and I was blasting music. My phone fell into a water stream I was washing dishes. Instantly my speakers started sucking and it hasn't been the same (about 30 mins ago). I thought this phone was water proof?!?! the rest of the phone is working fine. I opened up the case, no water inside. I am confused to say the least!
Do you think the speakers are screwed? I don't understand this. Its past my return period should have tried this the first day I got it!
The phone is water resistant, not waterproof. Also give it a little more time, the speakers will go back to normal.

There is water on the speaker membrane which distorts the sound and makes it quieter. Once it dries out you will be fine.
Thank you. Do you think I should keep the phone off?

Nope, don't worry about it. Your speaker is still wet just give it more time.
Happened to me when I went in the shower, the earpiece where you listen to people on calls went really quiet and tinny for a few hours.
I crapped myself lol but you just gotta be patient and the water will leave the phone

I have washed my phone several times. Also I have taken shots in a pool underwater. My phone doesn't have any problems. Remember you cant listen to music or talk on the phone immediately after you take it out of the water. The speakers are full of water and you have to give them some time.
It's good to know ! Thanks for the advice
Yoh! like how much time do I give them? hours? days?

:goodut your phone in a plastic bag with rice in it then seal the bag for a while The rice draws all the moisture out
S5 speaker
Bros.. I did the same thing... I dropped it in the water. And now.... after @30 mins the speakers seem to be like... Soud like the membeane is punctured. Can that be? I gave it a lot of shooks and I 'smacked' it, so to say, with the back of it to my upper foot, so that the water could get out faster... Was that bad? confused:
no longer working after getting wet.

I was sitting in water that was not even deep enough for the water to cover my legs playing with my grandson for about 20 minutes. I was told my the salesperson the Galaxy S5 was waterproof not water resistant for up to 30 minutes. No water depth was specified either. When I got out of the water, my phone would not turn on and I took off my otterbox because it had water in it. I then took off the back cover and found it had water inside it and on the battery. I have now had it drying out with the battery out for 8 hours. I tried it again and it still will not come on. I have to say though that it was starting to act up before it got submerged in water. The last several days it would not wake sometimes unless I took the back off and took the battery out and put it back in. The camera the last two days has been not wanting to work sometimes too. Or sometimes it would hang up. I have had this phone less than a year. I bought it right before the S6 came out. I think there is an issue with this phone besides the water issue. I have googled the other problems and they seem to be common with the S5.

there's got to be more to the story..this phone, if the back cover is completely snapped on + charging flap closed, can be fully submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes with absolutely no harm done to the phone. That's the manufacturers specs.
Personally, I jumped into a lake off the back of a boat with the phone in my hand (while recording video) and proceeded to swim around for about 45 minutes with the phone in my hand the entire time.
I'd say the deepest it went was around 5 feet.
As you can imagine there was a lot of pressure hitting it in all directions due to the swimming aspect..anyway point being, nothing was damaged.

I dropped my S5 in the toilet yesterday and I quickly removed it from the toilet. The toilet was almost empty and only the top part of the phone where you put your earphones in got wet. I have put it in rice but it is still not working. The bottom part didn't have the safety guard on but it didn't get wet. Why is it not working?
let the s5 dry up completely before turning it on
The difference between water-resistant to water proof is that water proof is impervious to fluids which means it doesn't allow not even a drop of liquid into the phone which only works with waterproof cases.. Water-resitance which the galaxy s5 has can withstand the penetration of water. Keep in mind taking it for a dive has some risks.. Make sure to completely dry off the phone once your done using it in the pool. It's normal for the speaker to sound muffle for a couple of hours.. Same goes for the microphone.. You won't be able to call or use any app that uses the microphone once you take it out of the pool. Just wait for it to dry off in a couple of hours!
Cheers!
Hey guys,
So out if curiosity, who's went showering with their Galaxy S7/Edge? It's water resistant, but I'm wondering whether it can withstand moisture. Thanks in advance!

It is water resisted. 30 min up to 1,5 meters but I wouldn't risk it because it's not stream resisted.

I had been swimming in the pool with mine. It can record videos while submerged Underwater but the sound quality is not that good.
I've been swimming in nuclear waste with my s7 and it seems to emit this green glow, sound is a bit staticky like from a geiger counter but still works fine though!
I don't know why people are so scared, even if you get water into a normal phone you can usually fix it by letting it dry completely.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I've been showering with my s7 for about a week. But I've come to realize that it's not really worth it cuz when water gets in and around the speakers the sound quality drops dramatically, almost inaudible really.
Seriously? You all can't go without your phone for 5 minutes? =)
I suppose if you must take a shower with your phone, they sell special zip seal bags for them. You can still use the touchscreen through them and they don't muffle all of the noise.

Not true for me. I ruined my Note 4 home button by dropping the bottom of the phone in water for a brief second. Samsung wanted $150 to repair.

Well considering how unlikely it is to get water into a water resistant phone with a shower head, $150 is not that great of a risk.

took mine to the beach and all, seems to work fine.
i spray inox or non conducting lubricant into the 3.5mm jack and the charging port in the morning, then to the beach and stuff like normal, then spray lub again after a shower and clean at the end of the day. to get the sound back, i use a drinking straw to blow water out one side of the speaker you can see the water come out the other end of the grill, its not perfect but you can then use the loud speaker a bit and full sound comes back faster, same quick treatment for the top ear speaker.
sand was still in the 3.5mm jack after getting home from the trip but fully comes out if you use the tiny extender straw that comes with the inox spray can.
i did fully water test my s7 edge on the first week for an hour or so just in case it did break and needed warranty, so i dont waste time setting up apps and data.
After a fast charge i also cool the phone down under the cold tap, just cover the bottom ports and rinse the top half.
All the time. I read the morning news in the shower, check my commute time, and shoot quick replies to emails.
No reason to have the shower head directly spraying on it, though
Only pain in the butt is removing the case and drying it
Sitting in the bathroom while you shower should be fine. Holding it under the stream of water from the shower head is a bad idea. IP68 does not mean the device is certified or has been testing under flowing water or a forced stream of water. There are completely different IP ratings and tests for those conditions, and the S7 isn't certified to pass those tests.
What IP ratings mean
The fact that IP68 is "higher" than IP63 or IP64 doesn't mean it's "better," or that it meets those standards, too.
I never had any problems taking my water resistant rated devices (z2, tab z and now S7 edge) to the tub ( im bathing very hot, so a lot of steam exposure) Also they get exposed to the shower afterwards. Especially with the S7 edge I feel pretty confident doing so as there are no covering flaps that might get lose over time or halfway closed.
here are some off cuts of my beach recordings. 4k mostly.

Even with lubricant I still wouldn't put mine in the sea. Nice video though. Happy 10 years on XDA Sonhy!
I've taken mine in the bath (didn't get it wet) as Candy Crush doesn't play itself.
@Lembo happy 10 years to you to my friend
was able to get heap of great 4k memories underwater and on the beach.
hopefully the lub will protect from rust on the charge pins, its my only worry, and maybe the sand wearing out the gap around the home button, takes ages to get the sand out of the gap.
ive got a $5 airtight hard case ordered, but it will be only for diving
a cheap ziplock bag survives swimming and snorkeling, so my logic is the s7 edge's glued frame should be better protected... its just so logically, but hey, as long as ur happy with your usage, thats all that matters
Cannot say i have Showered with the phone.
But alot of people say about steam and condensation.
I shower twice a day (More detail than i would care to go into)
I used my Note 3 for 2 and a half years.
I took my Note 3 into the bathroom where i shower every day.
Thats a MIN of 800 Times the phone was exposed for a form of Steam, Some days heavier than others.
(The phone was situated about 1 meters from the shower head)
I steam up the bathroom a considerable about.
my Note 3 works perfect and has not had any defect in water damage.
I may be lucky! but i don't think the steam will cause as much damage as you may consider.
Unless you go and sit in a Sauna for a few hours maybe.
So my pattern has not changed with my new Edge.
Just this time am not too worried about handling it with wet hands
I dont play stupid and hold it in Water, as i have more than 2 phones, Business, Personal and Work (Work)
So if one where to get used to using the device in water.
and has a empty air head day and walks into the shower with there iphone 6, LOL!!!
If you dont break a habit, you will continue to do it sub-concisely
If you break the habit, you have to think twice about it!
God help the people who go from a water resistant phone to a none water resistant lol!

then why the IP68 is for?
- tapatalked - from my VANTABLACK S7 EDGE
AFAIK, the rating is for submerging the device to up to 1.5m up to half an hour, not to operate the device under water.
MInd, there are no physical buttons to operate by just using the camera shutter if the app has been set-up prior to diving in ...

@drummerman correctly wrote "NOT to be operated under water", that is clearly different from "water resistant to a maximum depth of 1.5m for up to 30 minutes".
IP68 actually doesn't guarantee that the phone can be also operated under water...

Not pressing buttons, just let it dry by charging wirelessly to let the phone heat up. If you ruined it, I'm sure you will find out within the next few hours to days. I think you will be fine because others have used the vol(since that's the only button to work under water)

You're an idiot. No where did anyone ever say the phone is water proof. It is water resistant. What that means is that under certain circumstances it can make contact with water and still function after being taken out. That is not the same as using it underwater. You don't deserve a phone this expensive you buffon.

While I agree with you that it is not wise to use these devices as underwater cameras, it's not surprising that people do so, when Samsung are doing the exact same thing in their official commercials. Have a look at these examples:
Samsung Malaysia, jumping off a cliff into water with the S7 Edge on a selfie stick:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvWslN5DIHM&list=FLQL-jI9F5ORzWPDxiJQjimA&index=1
Samsung Indonesia, going down a water slide landing in a pool with the S7 Edge on a selfie stick:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bNv51boLtk&list=FLQL-jI9F5ORzWPDxiJQjimA&index=2
Samsung New Zealand, using the S7 Edge in the ocean and different wet environments to take photos/videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3hqaTapWSo&list=FLQL-jI9F5ORzWPDxiJQjimA&index=3
At the end of the third one, the text even says: "Now you can capture life in water". The only disclaimer is: "Device requires thorough rinse in fresh water after exposure to salt or chlorinated water". In the other videos it says "Results may vary".
And here's an instruction video from Samsungs support site, showing you how to clean your device under tap water after contact with salt water or other liquids:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W78ydsy1mU
(From http://support-us.samsung.com/spsn/main.jsp)
Just to be clear, I DO NOT encourage people to follow these examples as they seem like good ways to ruin an expensive device Be careful, as wear and tear, manufacturing defects or just a drop can affect the water resistance as well.
Although I can also say that I had the Xperia V and Xperia Z3, which both had lower IP ratings than the S7, and I used these under water lots of times with no issues at all. Even after the glass back of the Z3 was shattered from a drop I rinsed it under the tap to clean it about once a week.
@BaconDanny Nice post, never noticed the Videos from Samsung before.
They really do encourage the usage of the device under water.
I myself have only exposed the device to shower water.
And dropped it once in the bath, Am happy to live with the fact it will survive an accident rather than to get used to using the device in water.
A slight disappointment, as one of the purchase reasons was for some nice water park snaps and pool snaps on holiday.
Too expensive to just have a gamble with so many users reporting defected units.
Makes me question if the Water resistance is as tight as they advertise
(A recent review company just tested the Water resistance of the S7 and it failed awaiting official statement from Samsung)
Or there is a number of users who have taken the water proofing to the extreme.
Ill use my device on the principle its water tight, So that water will drip off it.
This will do me enough to use the device in rain or shower or any other types of water like this.
I just wont go submerging it
Another episode of typical consumer bull**** miss advertising to get ahead of the market.

And you're unnecessarily rude. Did writing that make you feel better about yourself?
Anyway, for me the IP rating of this phone is a bonus. It's good to know that the phone should be able to handle my using it in a sudden downpour or if I accidentally drop it down the toilet (not something I've done in over 20 years of owning mobile phones mind). But to deliberately take it underwater, regardless of what confusing messages Samsung are sending out, is simply asking for issues that don't need to be asked for.

It's probably the SD card that got damaged from the water, not the phone. Replace the card.
I have my s7 Edge for 6 months and I've never had an issue with its water resistance until these issues came up. I was at Boracay island in the Philippines and when I was snorkeling in the sea, I swam with my phone s7 Edge and took videos under the sea which is salted water.
Scene 1:
- When I got back at my hotel, the first thing I did was to wipe it with towel and blow dry it with a blower especially the USB port and plugged it in the USB charger, as expected it didn't charge since moisture detection prompts. And so I left my phone not charging and slept
Scene 2:
- After I wake up, the first thing I did was to charge my phone, it did charge and I called my brother, my brother hears me very well. But on my 2nd call, the charging was cancelled and the moisture detection appears and my brother cannot hear me anymore unless I turn on the loudspeaker so that the top MIC would also work. Basically my USB port for charging and my bottom MIC has been busted until now.
Scene 3:
- After 3 days, I got back in Manila and the first thing I did was to rinse the phone with water. I rinsed the ports especially the USB port and the bottom MIC. And wiped it with towel and buried it with rice grains. I waited for a complete 24 hours and after that, the bottom MIC works (I test it with voice record) and the charging of the USB port works, however, while charging, somebody called me and right after I answered the call, immediately the moisture detection appears and my caller cannot hear me. The bottom MIC isn't working again.
What should I do now? I'm trapped with this issues for 1 week. I can't even use my phone normally. Please help me.
Hard lesson learned. Do not swim with a non-water proof phone. They are water resistant only like it would survive in a cold shower.

But I've always swim this phone in pool or lakes but never in salted water. Sad to say, it went more worst.
There's no moisture sensor on S7 but the phone can detect a short circuit in USB port which are assumed as wet port by software.
Probably some salt or some contamination still remain. My suggestion is to fully submerged your phone in clean water for awhile to clean out as much salt as possible.
Salt water is corrosive and conductive, it's the worst for any electronic including water resistance one. So the first thing you should do immediately after your phone is in contact with salt water is to clean it with clean water and be careful next time.

Brilliant idea sir. How many minutes do you think I should submerge it? Also, should I put it in the rice grains after I wipe it to remove other moistures inside the phone?
Update as of 11:25am (Philippines Time) of 11/23/2016
I tried to submerge it in a mineral drinking water for almost 5 minutes and wiped it and buried it under a pile of rice grains. After 15 hours of waiting. I picked it up again, boot it and immediately I went to the "Voice Recorder" app and press the record button. (My brother is beside me playing Mobile Legend)
Here's an example of the outcome:
(Voice recording file inside the attached zip file)
And I charged it in the charger and the Moisture Detected dialogue box appears again.
Any suggestion?

Usually the technicians here in the Philippines, assumes the motherboard as the faulty hardware if any hardware function is not working aside from the LCD and touchscreen. So do you think I should advise them that the only problem of the phone is cleaning and they should just clean the internal parts of the phone? And also, will it still be water-resistant even it has already been opened?

Yes just tell them to polish the hardware
The moisture warning persists because there are 2 papers inside the phone, when they get wet the moisture warning popsup. U drowned the phone in salty wster by which the moisture got on paper as some salty particles sitck outside and the inside water was still wet. The other hardware also get moisture if its not polished in 5 hours. The heat makes the salty water to dry and keep a micro layer on hardware which kills the functions.
The water restiance depends on how properly they pack the device. There is no way to stop enter the water gettinf inside the device . The phone is water resistant not water proof so dont dive with it. Good luck
Hello alls
As HTC U11 is IP67 rated, things were turning in my head for few days, and I finally take my courage to put it on the water.
Many video are testing that point, but what I find was a little bit obvious.
I have no problem with the phone after its dive on the swimming pool, I only put it 15 or 20 cm max on it. If the screen is working, nothing from the software part was working. I feel like watermake a pressure on the multitask button : I would like to take some pictures but everytime I try to squeeze and engage the photo module but every time, the phone stop the photo application and run the task changer app ... Reall curious.
So I'd like to see if someone here try to take picture under water ?
Thx

HTC claims the phone has an ip67 rating, so up to 1 meter for a maximum of 30 minutes it should actually be water proof.
I regulary submerged my S7 and used it while showering, the phone was still running strong after a year. Even screen worked under water, pretty cool.
did you try to open the camera 1st and set a timer. After that dive and take the picture?

They also claim water resistant.
Water-resistant: able to resist the penetration of water to some degree but not entirely
Water-repellent: not easily penetrated by water, especially as a result of being treated for such a purpose with a surface coating
Waterproof: impervious to water

Yeah, I wouldn't trust the IP67 rating at all. Also, that's for fresh water, not chemically treated water, soapy water, etc. The warranty information also says that water damage is not covered under the warranty so if you're unlucky and you have a seam that isn't sealed and your phone dies, you've got an expensive paperweight.
Its kind of backwards considering that the M7 survived CNET's ridiculous torture tactics including dropping it in a soda, throwing it out of a moving vehicle, throwing it on a BBQ... They thought it was dead but put it in silica packets for a week anyway and to their surprise, it actually powered on. If I remember correctly, the only thing that was wrong with it was the charging port got damaged in the toss so they had to fight to charge it.
Yep. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-YJDiyC5IA - 4:15 to start the torture test and 18:30 to see it power on after all the hell they put it through.
There's no doubt the U11 can't stand up to the same torture the M7 and M8 could. The screen didn't sustain any damage even after being chucked twice out of a moving vehicle while the frame actually started to lift.
Hi, I had a similar experience to yours. As a work around, what i did was submerge only half of the device inside the water(upside down). I was able to get some pictures and videos. But its tricky as you can really see how the picture is coming as half the screen in submerged and the other half is above water. But nevertheless the camera performance was absolutely brilliant.
I do agree, HTC should have an "Underwater" mode that disables the touch buttons and touch screen (but leave the display on). It would be very useful.
Has anyone tried the glove mode for under water pictures? That worked pretty well on my Sony in the shower, so who knows

There is no way I would put my U11 underwater on purpose, it states on the HTC site that it is only water repellent not water proof but go ahead and test it for us I would like to know how well it does lol.

Well I meant to say that they also claim it only to be water resistant. ***EDIT sorry just noticed I already made this comment lol
Hey, my sank all the way down to 1.4 meters deep. No problem at all.

I work as a construction worker and I've already washed my U11 with clear water at home, because it had a lot of dust on it and inside the charging port. No problem at all.
I just went swimming with my U11 in my pocket. Maybe about 15 mins at 3-4 feet. Currently drying right now. I got itchy and tried powering it on perhaps a bit too soon but I got the HTC screen and it locked up. Screen went off and let it sit for awhile longer. When I press the power button the green LED comes on but nothing else. Waiting and praying it's not dead!
