Hey guys,
So out if curiosity, who's went showering with their Galaxy S7/Edge? It's water resistant, but I'm wondering whether it can withstand moisture. Thanks in advance!

It is water resisted. 30 min up to 1,5 meters but I wouldn't risk it because it's not stream resisted.

I had been swimming in the pool with mine. It can record videos while submerged Underwater but the sound quality is not that good.
I've been swimming in nuclear waste with my s7 and it seems to emit this green glow, sound is a bit staticky like from a geiger counter but still works fine though!
I don't know why people are so scared, even if you get water into a normal phone you can usually fix it by letting it dry completely.

I've been showering with my s7 for about a week. But I've come to realize that it's not really worth it cuz when water gets in and around the speakers the sound quality drops dramatically, almost inaudible really.
Seriously? You all can't go without your phone for 5 minutes? =)
I suppose if you must take a shower with your phone, they sell special zip seal bags for them. You can still use the touchscreen through them and they don't muffle all of the noise.

Not true for me. I ruined my Note 4 home button by dropping the bottom of the phone in water for a brief second. Samsung wanted $150 to repair.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Well considering how unlikely it is to get water into a water resistant phone with a shower head, $150 is not that great of a risk.

took mine to the beach and all, seems to work fine.
i spray inox or non conducting lubricant into the 3.5mm jack and the charging port in the morning, then to the beach and stuff like normal, then spray lub again after a shower and clean at the end of the day. to get the sound back, i use a drinking straw to blow water out one side of the speaker you can see the water come out the other end of the grill, its not perfect but you can then use the loud speaker a bit and full sound comes back faster, same quick treatment for the top ear speaker.
sand was still in the 3.5mm jack after getting home from the trip but fully comes out if you use the tiny extender straw that comes with the inox spray can.
i did fully water test my s7 edge on the first week for an hour or so just in case it did break and needed warranty, so i dont waste time setting up apps and data.
After a fast charge i also cool the phone down under the cold tap, just cover the bottom ports and rinse the top half.
All the time. I read the morning news in the shower, check my commute time, and shoot quick replies to emails.
No reason to have the shower head directly spraying on it, though
Only pain in the butt is removing the case and drying it
Sitting in the bathroom while you shower should be fine. Holding it under the stream of water from the shower head is a bad idea. IP68 does not mean the device is certified or has been testing under flowing water or a forced stream of water. There are completely different IP ratings and tests for those conditions, and the S7 isn't certified to pass those tests.
What IP ratings mean
The fact that IP68 is "higher" than IP63 or IP64 doesn't mean it's "better," or that it meets those standards, too.
I never had any problems taking my water resistant rated devices (z2, tab z and now S7 edge) to the tub ( im bathing very hot, so a lot of steam exposure) Also they get exposed to the shower afterwards. Especially with the S7 edge I feel pretty confident doing so as there are no covering flaps that might get lose over time or halfway closed.
here are some off cuts of my beach recordings. 4k mostly.

Even with lubricant I still wouldn't put mine in the sea. Nice video though. Happy 10 years on XDA Sonhy!
I've taken mine in the bath (didn't get it wet) as Candy Crush doesn't play itself.
@Lembo happy 10 years to you to my friend
was able to get heap of great 4k memories underwater and on the beach.
hopefully the lub will protect from rust on the charge pins, its my only worry, and maybe the sand wearing out the gap around the home button, takes ages to get the sand out of the gap.
ive got a $5 airtight hard case ordered, but it will be only for diving
a cheap ziplock bag survives swimming and snorkeling, so my logic is the s7 edge's glued frame should be better protected... its just so logically, but hey, as long as ur happy with your usage, thats all that matters
Cannot say i have Showered with the phone.
But alot of people say about steam and condensation.
I shower twice a day (More detail than i would care to go into)
I used my Note 3 for 2 and a half years.
I took my Note 3 into the bathroom where i shower every day.
Thats a MIN of 800 Times the phone was exposed for a form of Steam, Some days heavier than others.
(The phone was situated about 1 meters from the shower head)
I steam up the bathroom a considerable about.
my Note 3 works perfect and has not had any defect in water damage.
I may be lucky! but i don't think the steam will cause as much damage as you may consider.
Unless you go and sit in a Sauna for a few hours maybe.
So my pattern has not changed with my new Edge.
Just this time am not too worried about handling it with wet hands
I dont play stupid and hold it in Water, as i have more than 2 phones, Business, Personal and Work (Work)
So if one where to get used to using the device in water.
and has a empty air head day and walks into the shower with there iphone 6, LOL!!!
If you dont break a habit, you will continue to do it sub-concisely
If you break the habit, you have to think twice about it!
God help the people who go from a water resistant phone to a none water resistant lol!

Go ahead. I was scared at first. It goes against everything we know and have learned about phones, I know but it's fine. The sound gets distorted if the speaker gets wet so just stick it in the corner before you turn the water on and jam out!

So my waterproof cover was closed and I was blasting music. My phone fell into a water stream I was washing dishes. Instantly my speakers started sucking and it hasn't been the same (about 30 mins ago). I thought this phone was water proof?!?! the rest of the phone is working fine. I opened up the case, no water inside. I am confused to say the least!
Do you think the speakers are screwed? I don't understand this. Its past my return period should have tried this the first day I got it!
The phone is water resistant, not waterproof. Also give it a little more time, the speakers will go back to normal.
Sent from my SM-G900F/T/I/M/P/W8 using Tapatalk
There is water on the speaker membrane which distorts the sound and makes it quieter. Once it dries out you will be fine.
Thank you. Do you think I should keep the phone off?

Nope, don't worry about it. Your speaker is still wet just give it more time.
Happened to me when I went in the shower, the earpiece where you listen to people on calls went really quiet and tinny for a few hours.
I crapped myself lol but you just gotta be patient and the water will leave the phone

I have washed my phone several times. Also I have taken shots in a pool underwater. My phone doesn't have any problems. Remember you cant listen to music or talk on the phone immediately after you take it out of the water. The speakers are full of water and you have to give them some time.
It's good to know ! Thanks for the advice

S5 speaker
Bros.. I did the same thing... I dropped it in the water. And now.... after @30 mins the speakers seem to be like... Soud like the membeane is punctured. Can that be? I gave it a lot of shooks and I 'smacked' it, so to say, with the back of it to my upper foot, so that the water could get out faster... Was that bad? confused:
no longer working after getting wet.

I was sitting in water that was not even deep enough for the water to cover my legs playing with my grandson for about 20 minutes. I was told my the salesperson the Galaxy S5 was waterproof not water resistant for up to 30 minutes. No water depth was specified either. When I got out of the water, my phone would not turn on and I took off my otterbox because it had water in it. I then took off the back cover and found it had water inside it and on the battery. I have now had it drying out with the battery out for 8 hours. I tried it again and it still will not come on. I have to say though that it was starting to act up before it got submerged in water. The last several days it would not wake sometimes unless I took the back off and took the battery out and put it back in. The camera the last two days has been not wanting to work sometimes too. Or sometimes it would hang up. I have had this phone less than a year. I bought it right before the S6 came out. I think there is an issue with this phone besides the water issue. I have googled the other problems and they seem to be common with the S5.

there's got to be more to the story..this phone, if the back cover is completely snapped on + charging flap closed, can be fully submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes with absolutely no harm done to the phone. That's the manufacturers specs.
Personally, I jumped into a lake off the back of a boat with the phone in my hand (while recording video) and proceeded to swim around for about 45 minutes with the phone in my hand the entire time.
I'd say the deepest it went was around 5 feet.
As you can imagine there was a lot of pressure hitting it in all directions due to the swimming aspect..anyway point being, nothing was damaged.

I dropped my S5 in the toilet yesterday and I quickly removed it from the toilet. The toilet was almost empty and only the top part of the phone where you put your earphones in got wet. I have put it in rice but it is still not working. The bottom part didn't have the safety guard on but it didn't get wet. Why is it not working?
let the s5 dry up completely before turning it on
The difference between water-resistant to water proof is that water proof is impervious to fluids which means it doesn't allow not even a drop of liquid into the phone which only works with waterproof cases.. Water-resitance which the galaxy s5 has can withstand the penetration of water. Keep in mind taking it for a dive has some risks.. Make sure to completely dry off the phone once your done using it in the pool. It's normal for the speaker to sound muffle for a couple of hours.. Same goes for the microphone.. You won't be able to call or use any app that uses the microphone once you take it out of the pool. Just wait for it to dry off in a couple of hours!
Cheers!
I've seen the YouTube videos of people putting in a pool. .but I just wanted to get the general consensus of the xda members on how waterproof it really is. I was looking to film under water as I reeled in a fish from a lake.
I have the T-Mobile USA version..if that matters

Should survive as long as it doesn't go below 3 feet. Should doesn't guarantee it though. I wouldn't test it, or use it underwater on purpose.

It will withstand both of these situations. Be wary though, if you damage your back cover through drops, the water resistance may be compromised. I like others here am reluctant to willfully prove that the phone is water resistant. In the same way I Dont want to put a sharp knife on my screen to prove gorilla glass works. However I'm sure it does resist water

I dropped mine into a sink full of water like 10 minutes after buying my s5 outright and have taken it to the lake and haven't had an issue
As stated above, it's water resistant. I have however made some underwater videos and no issues at all. I stick to the 1m/30min rule. If you fall in a pool it will survive, if the phone doesn't go deeper then 1m.
Water proof/resistant
OK so i am the type to put it to the test and I went to a water park where I had my phone in my pocket for up to 30 minutes at a time. Now I will warn you that exposure causes muffled speakers until fully dried out, roughly 1 1/2 days. And you will see a constant headphone plug in for about the same time but other than putting my phone on speaker phone for a day and a half no other problem. There was two times I lost my phone under the water from falling off me in the tube. So it is water resistant I believe it was up to 3 meters but I only had out in about 6 foot of water at a time. Passed my test
My phone was also in an otterbox which might have helped some on the depth.
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Free mobile app
First thing I did with mine was submerge it in the pool. Works fine. I won't be taking any underwater pictures, but I'm no longer worried about getting it wet.
Just make sure your back cover is snapped on completely and your USB port is securely closed.
Google this: s5 ip67
The phone is water resistant not water proof. The phone can resist water at a depth of up to 1 metre and for 30 minutes. After this, the phone self-destructs. (Honestly this is likely an exaggeration).
You can look on youtube at this phone being tested at further depths. but I advise against actually doing this yourself.
I personally, took my phone to ibiza and had this phone in the sea with me. I held it in my hand, swam out a bit then took some photos of the clear sea. If you do use in salt water though be sure to rinse with fresh water ASAP. The salt will mess up any water proof equipment. I didn't go down to 1 meter depth..
Today, I was washing my Z3 Compact in the sink with soapy water. It was in contact with water for max. 20 seconds and the water got into the upper speaker.
Even stranger thing happened, the BOTTOM speaker stopped working for a while. (about 10 minutes) I tried to play some songs via the speakers and only one of them was working and the quality of the sound was extremely crappy.
After 10 minutes both speakers strarted working again, but it seems the sound is much quieter now... It maybe has something to do with a message which appeared to me earlier today as well, about some hearing damage, so maybe the phone has set up the audio quieter by itself.
If anybody knows how to set it louder again, please help! Thanks.
Anyway, this phone is not really waterproof
I shower with mine daily, and I've also had in the tub - fully submerged. No issues at all.

I once was using the phone while having a bath, with no problems. But after I was washing the phone under running water this happened. Maybe soap is the problem(?)...
Soap reduces surface tension (that's what makes it *work*, for Pete's sake). This allows moisture to seep into places that water alone could not.
There is a very high probability that your use of soap caused this problem.
Showering with one is almost as bad, and for similar reasons.

Well I was thinking that no fluid can get into the phone
I submerged my phone into water and later phoned somebody , the sound was also very muffled and the other person did not understand me very well. This was however due to residual water sitting in the mic/speaker, it dried out after a couple of hours and was fine again. Did not test the speakers at that time but i guess the sound issues that you describe could be very well this.
Just let it dry completely then try again.

I could clearly see the water got into one of the speakers (inside) and after 10 minutes it probably dried out with help of the heat from the phone.
Anyway, It's all good now, but it could kill the speakers. I changed the topic title...

Well dont get me wrong, i was not able to see any water with bare eye inside the hole, but since waiting and letting it dry removed the issue completely its the only explanation for the muffled sound. Anyway i would never use this phone in water again, since any drop or wear over the time can produce slight damage to the water seals integrity. The phone may be water proof (or not ) when it gets into your hands but that is no guarantee that its goind to stay that way.
In my opinion one should not use the phone underwater even if it is advertised. just be happy that it can take some rain, a spilled beer and if your lucky an accidental drop into pools etc... but i would avoid constantly putting this to the test.
Im pretty sure it says the phone is water resistant not waterproof..

I believe Sony says don't expose the phone to detergent or other liquid chemicals (as well as salt water)
Here's the quote:

Well yes. Samsung said "water resistant", not "water proof", which means it's supposed to resist against water under certain conditions (up to 1.5m for 30mins), not function under it. The capacitive screen and capacitive buttons work with anything that holds an electrical charge, including pool water because it contains ions in it, so that's why they were being pressed.
But indeed, you are right with about not intentionally doing anything out of the ordinary, trying to test the water resistance. It is more of a safety feature, and Samsung is mistaking by advertising otherwise (they don't always do this).
I tried it several times - dived under water and take pictures with it or videos and everything is working just fine. But as I am reading more and more things about non water proof s7 edge I am starting to think that next time I better wont take my phone under water.
You don't understand physics, don't you? You can submerge the phone in shallow water - let's say it drops in your cereal bowl.
But if you take it to the pool and swim with it this is what gonna happen - you swim - therefore you move - the water "hits" your phone with a certain pressure, depending on your swimming speed.
So if you put your phone in a bowl with water and MOVE the phone very fast the water pressure on the ports will be like it's submerged under 10 feet of water
You get it? It's for accidents, its not the bext Go Pro Pool Edition.
I am really curious,if you buy a hatchet,do you try to cut your fingers with it to see if it works?
People will come here to inform themselves about the phone, maybe they want to buy it.
What they see? A post about a faulty phone - guess what - samsung never said about WATERPROOF - its WATERRESISTANT. Stop spreading these false informations.

It wasn't meant to be used underwater. It's kinda like a safety feature if you accidentally dropped it in water and quickly react to taking it out. Pretty sure pool water has various salts so that kinda factors in too.

gessus wessus... doesn't matter what word or definition is used, the s7 phone has good gaskets and can exceed the ipx ratings stated which is total submersion for the defined period of time.
The next time you spend a weeks wage on a water resistant phone, briefly inspect the ports and make sure they are sealed and put the phone underwater for the stated amount of time and if it breaks get a refund because it's defective, if it works, then you're good to go.
mine has survived the pool and the beach many times ( I spray water repellent on it for salt water use, the non electrical conducting lubricants, before and after, e.g inox marine, wd40 isn't as good but cheaper and comes in a tiny pen style dispenser).

There are also many ways to damaged or destroy the seals in the s7 edge.
Like salt water, water with chlor, bending the phone in tight jeans....
I can vouch for the high quality water resistance. Even with the S5 I had 3 good years of using it as a snorkeling camera, shower radio and regularly washing it under the tap to freshen it up. It became a hand me down to my little cousin as soon as the S7 was released. I now do the same with my S7 all the time, it's even more water resistant than the S5 and it was advertised as an underwater camera. It works flawlessly. I even rinse it off to cool it down after long sessions of VR. It drops from 35 degrees Celsius to 25 in 5 seconds. Stop being so paranoid. The phone is really as water resistant as it claims to be. The only reason why it's not "water proof" is because there is no industrial standard by which you can call something water proof.
Well a friend of mine left his S7E in a hottub at 80c and 1.5m underwater for anhour phone still works just fine.
+1 Well said. LOL!!!

You certainly don't know sh*t about anyone around here. Summary: The only one talking crap here would be you.

Sooo, I did test the phone half submerged in a gently flowing river and I can tell you that it isn't waterproof under that condition. Condensation under the camera lens showed up within 1/2 an hour. Screen started going purple within hours. Take this as an example of a real world test.
ok, how about using it under the rain? i wouldn't dip it in pool water but anyone tried using it in the rain?
Hello alls
As HTC U11 is IP67 rated, things were turning in my head for few days, and I finally take my courage to put it on the water.
Many video are testing that point, but what I find was a little bit obvious.
I have no problem with the phone after its dive on the swimming pool, I only put it 15 or 20 cm max on it. If the screen is working, nothing from the software part was working. I feel like watermake a pressure on the multitask button : I would like to take some pictures but everytime I try to squeeze and engage the photo module but every time, the phone stop the photo application and run the task changer app ... Reall curious.
So I'd like to see if someone here try to take picture under water ?
Thx
I realy hope you didnt put it in salt water..
Thank you for sharing. I did not try this with my U11 yet but my S7, S8 and XZ premium worked fine under water or with water on screen.

It was in a swimming pool, with no salt treatment
Tested it today. I wish there's an under water mode that turns off touchscreen and touch buttons.

Cool
Did you succeed in launching the photo module ? Or was it like me, with multitask launching anytime ?

You mean edge sense? That's the only way I launched the camera.

HTC claims the phone has an ip67 rating, so up to 1 meter for a maximum of 30 minutes it should actually be water proof.
I regulary submerged my S7 and used it while showering, the phone was still running strong after a year. Even screen worked under water, pretty cool.
did you try to open the camera 1st and set a timer. After that dive and take the picture?

They also claim water resistant.
Water-resistant: able to resist the penetration of water to some degree but not entirely
Water-repellent: not easily penetrated by water, especially as a result of being treated for such a purpose with a surface coating
Waterproof: impervious to water
Water-resistant: able to resist the penetration of water to some degree but not entirely
Yeah, I wouldn't trust the IP67 rating at all. Also, that's for fresh water, not chemically treated water, soapy water, etc. The warranty information also says that water damage is not covered under the warranty so if you're unlucky and you have a seam that isn't sealed and your phone dies, you've got an expensive paperweight.
Its kind of backwards considering that the M7 survived CNET's ridiculous torture tactics including dropping it in a soda, throwing it out of a moving vehicle, throwing it on a BBQ... They thought it was dead but put it in silica packets for a week anyway and to their surprise, it actually powered on. If I remember correctly, the only thing that was wrong with it was the charging port got damaged in the toss so they had to fight to charge it.
Yep. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-YJDiyC5IA - 4:15 to start the torture test and 18:30 to see it power on after all the hell they put it through.
There's no doubt the U11 can't stand up to the same torture the M7 and M8 could. The screen didn't sustain any damage even after being chucked twice out of a moving vehicle while the frame actually started to lift.
Hi, I had a similar experience to yours. As a work around, what i did was submerge only half of the device inside the water(upside down). I was able to get some pictures and videos. But its tricky as you can really see how the picture is coming as half the screen in submerged and the other half is above water. But nevertheless the camera performance was absolutely brilliant.
I do agree, HTC should have an "Underwater" mode that disables the touch buttons and touch screen (but leave the display on). It would be very useful.
Has anyone tried the glove mode for under water pictures? That worked pretty well on my Sony in the shower, so who knows

There is no way I would put my U11 underwater on purpose, it states on the HTC site that it is only water repellent not water proof but go ahead and test it for us I would like to know how well it does lol.

Well I meant to say that they also claim it only to be water resistant. ***EDIT sorry just noticed I already made this comment lol
Hey, my sank all the way down to 1.4 meters deep. No problem at all.

I work as a construction worker and I've already washed my U11 with clear water at home, because it had a lot of dust on it and inside the charging port. No problem at all.
I just went swimming with my U11 in my pocket. Maybe about 15 mins at 3-4 feet. Currently drying right now. I got itchy and tried powering it on perhaps a bit too soon but I got the HTC screen and it locked up. Screen went off and let it sit for awhile longer. When I press the power button the green LED comes on but nothing else. Waiting and praying it's not dead!
