Hi everyone,
I had rooted my moto g4 plus on the day of arrival.
Now I want to know if Motorola provides further updates (surely it will provide) like MM 6.0.2,can I update with custom recovery or I need to flash stock recovery again.?
Thanks in advance
You need to flash stock recovery again, and you might also need to unroot.

Hey everyone!
I just got my AT&T G2 last night.. I like the phone, but really want to root and ROM, coming from a gnex.. its a bit bloated to me
Anyway, it was 4.4.2 out of the box with firmware verison, D80020c. Originally I thought I would need to revert to stock firmware D80010d? However now I have been told I can just use ioRoot25 and then flash Cloudyfa's AutoRec recovery? Is that correct?
I'm going to get at this, this afternoon but obviously it would save a lot of work if I could just use ioRoot25 but as I said, I want a custom recovery also so I can flash a non-stock rom.
Please let me know what would work, and what works best.. Thanks, Chris.
I've went ahead and downloaded supersports tool to revert to stock D80010d. I haven't actually ran it yet, because I want to wait on input from people in this thread. However, it seems like rooting with ioRoot on D80010d, flashing custom recovery, and than flashing a ROM would be the way to go.. It is my understand that currently it is no yet possible with KK to have custom recoveries? Being on stock KK doesn't do anything for me anyway.. I'll probably just flash a asop based ROM running 4.4.2 anyway and go that way with it.. So it would work like this..
Currently on D80020c (KK) --> Revert to stock, D80010d (JB) --> Root using ioRoot (any verison would work I guess?) --> ADB flash over either CWR, TWRP, or Philz recovery? --> Get some 4.4 based rom with gapps, flash it and all is well? Then I will be rooted and romed with a kitkat based rom correct? And all in time for the weekend?? lol.
Right on. Use ioroot25, but apart from that you've got it all figured out. You're right there is no recovery for pure kk because they patched the Loki exploit, but there are work arounds. Everything you need to know about rooting and flashing had been covered here so just go ahead and do your thing and enjoy your new phone :good:
Hey guy's. It seems Motorola released a new update for moto x play ( Marshmallow Stock ROM) a while ago. But since i'm rooted and using TWRP, i have a newbie question: I know i have to remove root and flash stock recovery to update, but i have to flash the marshmallow one or i'm fine flashing the lollipop stock recovery?
Lollipop stock recovery. If you change system with custom rom ,flash lollipop firmware to get mm ota .

I'm alredy at Marshmallow. The update i'm talking about is a security patch and "system improvements". A OTA with about 254mb. That is the one i need to know what recovery to use. Also, sorry for not being specifc.

Hello, I'm on the fence here.
Here I sit with my dear moto g4 play which I am about to root.
The only question standing in my way is regarding future nougat update (In case Lenovo actually releases it).
Below are my questions.
If I only root my phone now will I be able to get OTA once I restore the stock recovery?
I do not wish to try new roms but just have the root and be able to easily get future nougat update when it arrives, what would be the best way to do this?
anyone have a link or can tell me which version of marshmallow and stock recovery are for our moto x? i need them to restore to stock so i can get the OTA?
Link for the rom and the recovery would be awesome
thanks
Hello everyone. I had an extra Moto x pure and gave it to my mom still running MM stock unrooted ROM with TWRP and the nougat update just popped up if she tries to update will it fail?
Yes, of course it will... you must be 100% stock to take an OTA update, including stock recovery.
The best thing would be to return to pure stock by fastboot flashing the Nougat ROM in my signature.
