[Q] motorchopper not granting root..

Kinda odd, I run motochopper, it goes through the process without a hitch and says everything is good to go, device reboots.
Superuser icon is there but when click it tells me it needs to update the binaries, then says install failed, and to send the log to developer.. however it does not generate a log.
I just want to install nobloat and get all this ATT trash off my phone. Maybe do more later but for now thats all.

I know this is a common issue, ive searched it, but I kinda find myself in a rut where when I search I just fiond threads made by others with the same issue.. with links leading to more of the same but no real solution.

it should give you the option to update them via "normal" or in recovery. have you tried both options (assuming you have twrp or cwm installed)? cheers

Phone is BONE STOCK, nothing else installed
Have tried "install" and "recovery install" both give the same error "install failed"
no idea what twrp or cwm is.

have you tried running an app that requires root?

What firmware are you on? Motochopper does not work for mf3 firmware.

Hmm, baseband? Yes it does end in mf3

If it is bone stock with MF3 you will need to look into the safestrap thread. That is the only root method at this time. But BEWARE with deleting out the bloat as there is no getting anything back via flashing in Odin or recovery. You can use titanium backup and FREEZE some bloat but again be careful. I have seen other users just freeze the wrong app and not be able to boot their phone.
The only way of getting the phone fixed is if your lucky and a Best Buy Samsung Experience shop will reflash the mf3 firmware for you.
So do not use motochopper or casual to try getting root and recovery. ONLY use safestrap and its recovery and don't try to install any other recoveries. Good luck and happy flashing

[Q] so i've tried a bunch of root methods for the (au) SCL22 [SM-N900J/] for Japan...

but none of them seem to work quite right...
-i tried one from the thread that was titled something like "Everything You Need To Know About the SCL22"...
---... but when i finished my root-checker app told me that i did not have root, and busybox/terminal weren't installed correctly.
-i then tried one from different thread that required manual terminal input "using su, etc."...
---... but when i got to the point of inputting the terminal code, it told me that it could find root, and rather than having a #-symbol, i got the $-symbol...
i also tried the first two methods again , two more times, each; to make sure i wasn't fowling up someplace. meticulously followed each of the steps, with same result.
-and then, finally, i tried CF-autoroot but could not find my model number, and was getting impatient, so i tried just the standard N900 one and got a soft-brick, which i am currently trying to restore...
-i only wish to remove bloat, install a custom rom (don't care about NFC, don't care about Knox, etc.), and install custom apk's. but meh :/
does anyone actually have a real, working root that i can follow clearly? lollipop or otherwise? in my reading of these forums, it seems the SCL22/SM-N900J (au Model) has been neglected.
i read through every thread i could find on the matter, so i feel like i really tried to root it myself and fix it myself, before asking for assistance :/ any help?

Old post... but I have been looking for some SCL22 solutions myself, so I thought I'd help here.
I have root on my SCL22. Busybox works. I may have done more, but as I remember it, all it needed was:
Install:
twrp-3.3.1-0-hltekdi.img.tar (Installed via Odin3 v3.12)
Booted into recovery mode with TWRP. Installed (via zip, not image)
SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742
That SuperSU copy, I've had for a while. Dunno if it can be found again, so I'll leave a copy here.
Yeah... that's it! There may be better software than SuperSU, but this works 90% for me. I wish SuperSU had the option for me to select software to give root permissions to; instead the app has to request root access, and then SuperSu will pop-op a notification to grant/deny root permissions. Sounds fine until the software you want to give root, doesn't ask for root (so then it never gets it )
But yeah... root. Enjoy.

LG-STYLO H634 CRICKET Supersu/xposed framework installation guide

ok, so there are some things i've found out by doing some research and combining what i found on here with the issues that some people were having with the Cricket version of the LG Stylo, and would like to share with you guys. while i was rooting my phone with kingroot, i noticed a threat that discussed that using supersu me and supersu wasn't an option without soft bricking your phone with a boot loop, after some research and trial i figured out how to get around the problem. The issue was the uninstallation of kinguser app form the phone, this is because using supersu me uninstalls kingroot and replaced it with the superuser binaries, but it leaves some core files of kinguser behind which causes errors, an if you keep your phone on, you'll notice that you'll start getting error messages for an about kingroot permission and all types of errors until your phone starts to freeze and act up. there is an easy fix for it all that worked for me, and would like to share this information and help people having this issue.....
I'm posting this as a hint for those who needed the help with installing xposed on cricket model LG STYLO only running 5.1.1 ​
so to begin, download system repair 2016 and apps2sd from play store, kinguser directly from their site so it will be the latest version,,,root your phone,,,,,don't delete the kinguser apk you downloaded you'll need it for later,,,,now install supersu me from the play store and open and run it, it'll uninstall kinguser and replace the binaries for superuser, this is where its gonna become tricky,,,,,,download supersu and run which will ask for update of binaries also let it finish updating and uninstall the supersu me control,,,,,now open apps2sd and clear the davik cache and other caches without restarting,,,,then run system repair 2016, it'll show that you had a few errors because kinguser hates the fact that supersu me uninstalled it and left messed up configurations on your phone, then clear the davik cache again, now you have to use the same kinguser apk you get at the start of the process and reinstall it to your phone, or else you will be getting a boot loop issue......for some reason even though all the caches are cleared and the system has been checked for errors, the kinguser app installs itself as a system app, a dependency if you will, like a basic LG/Cricket app that if you uninstall will cause errors, so but reinstalling it we stop that problem, you can run it but don't need to activate the root option of kinguser......this will cause the kinguser permission errors to stop also from this point only you can restart your phone,,,,,now you're able to install flashfire and xposed frameworks, and even restart your phone without worry of boot looping since there isn't much support for the LG-H634 stylo model.........:angel::angel:

So I rooted my same phone via kingroot and it has the purify apo along with it. Also having problems with errors and stuff. I'm gonna follow your method see what happens. This being #2 stylo after bricked the first one and couldn't find kdz. Anyway I'll get back to ya let me know if you have anymore info thanks for the help man.

ok i'm not sure how you guys got bricked, but i just got bricked using flahfire to create backup, so don't use that app as of yet, but anyways working on the replacement now, gonna be trying to create a restore img or flashable zip for the cricket stylo.

I got bricked, trying to change from kingroot to SU, I´ll really appreciate when you find solution give us instructions on how you did it!!

Have you guys any luck with a recovery method? And think you for helping I'll do my best with what I have. Also idk if I mentioned it earlier but when I reboot lg symbol appears but (authentication failed #9) appears below it. It was roted via king root and didn't o anything but remove some bloatware. Idk God be with you man cuz this is a bummer

I'm pretty sure that you ended up with brick because you didn't unlock your bootloader before backing up. My girlfriend did the same thing. As of right now I'm trying to figure out If there's a way past the bootloader or at least a way to do everything the bootloader can do without unlocking it.

Can we not flash the original firmware via download mode ? I had this phone (bought from a friend, cricket sim unlocked, phone bricked while i was playing around. )
I'm not super familiar with LG phones, but i keep hearing about a KDZ , is that some kind of official image format ?
If we can flash it for stock via download mode, can someone direct me as to where I might find instructions for our variant of the device, please ?

I was able to replace Kingroot with SuperSu using a guide I found on a website called w0lfdroid, I think. I just Google 'replace Kingroot with SuperSu and it was the second one down (I'm a new user so I can't post the link). I think it worked pretty well, but I'm still not able to flash TWRP or start the process to get xposed. If I can't get it, I might unroot and try the process again with this method.

works great, after flashing with LG Flash tools tot method just take out battery and wait 5sec, and put it back in and turn on, android logo will show and then it will boot normally, now i'm back to working on the supersu install methods to help people from bricking, wish me luck . also backing up boot img and then trying to use super sume to switch to still will cause boot looping to my knowledge. got 2 phones working on it, thanks to our annonomous LG guys for the unbricking

well not really, because if you go into the developer options there is the oem bootloader unlock you can select, not sure but i've got a cricket and boost version i've been working on it for a while, for some reason the phone doesn't like the way SU gets injected into the phone, and writes things to the wrong areas, i've been playing with some scripts for superuser installers from zip, hopefully i get a hit.

I noticed there is no solution posted. I recently bricked my phone and fixed it, thanks to you. I was simply wondering of there has been progress with getting the framework installed. Your help is much appreciated.

So I'm sort of confused... I cannot install xposed, and can't seem to find a work around. I am rooted but not with kingroot. I used a one click root tool on pc, and works great... Using su that is suggested using in this guide, so no trace of king root. Idk, could someone give me a quick run down on how to install xposed?

So far I am rooted with Super SU and have exposed installer I'm just having a hard time getting the framework installed. I do not have custom recovery installed. Is there any way to flash the framework zip file with like flashify or another app like that?

Magisk didn't install on my On5

I installed super su on my Galaxy On5, flashed super su and rooted it with Odin too. Today i hit full unroot on supersu then rebooted and snapchat worked which told me it's been unrooted. Then figuring I'd be safe with installing magisk (since super su said it reverted to the stock image or something like that) I flashed magisk 13.3 but after it finished succesfully i rebooted but can't find anything magisk related installed on my phone. Could someone point me in the right direction?

I had one time where I got Magisk working with the Superstarz ROM on the SM-G550T1. I don't remember what I did tbh, but it took hours of rebooting, frustrating hanging, etc.. Upon one of the Magisk modules I flashed after it did work, of course to my sadness it stopped working. Nandroid backups are so crucial and I just stopped making so many changes before a backup these days. Sure you can't speed demon through and get all your wildest fantasies to come true overnight, but I find making incremental progress with backups to me more sustainable. Anyways, I tried many times, many setups, and ultimately wasted many hours trying to "win" with this phone. I'd honestly highly recommend sticking with SuperSu by Chainfire as it has always just worked. That means no Android Pay, no Pokemon Go, and prolly others I haven't considered. I too wanted to have my cake and eat it... For Safetynet to pass and la la la. Truth be told, it is a royal pain in the arse!!! If YOU STILL DARE, you would definitely want to make sure you start with a stock ROM boot image and BACK IT UP #1. If you are using a custom ROM it may not allow you to fully unroot and go back to a stock img because it doesn't find one to revert to. For Magisk to pass SafetyNet and work at full capacity, you must start there. If you go to the trouble of going all the way back to stock, please upload one for all of us and make sure to include your phone/os specs from about phone. From stock, flash custom recovery BEFORE ROOT, within recovery back up boot, upload for us and yourself. Now, you have a legit revertible img to go back to in case you can't from Magisk/SuperSu. Phh's Superuser was a nightmare btw, never worked correctly. There's no way to unroot and go back to a stock boot img that I found unless you first back up from TWRP or custom recovery. Long answer, more than you bargained for no doubt, but hopefully something to be gained from. Really though... if all you want is for Snapchat to work and can live without Android Pay/Pokemon Go. Here's an easier method: uninstall Xposed, unroot, log into Snapchat (let it save a login token), root, re-install Xposed, Titanium Backup Snapchat, it should hold up from there. Did it once, forget if that's entirely right, but search and ye will find exact threads. I just said to hell with Snapchat, Pokemon Go, and Android Pay. I'd rather settle for Chainfire's Superuser's stability, Xposed (more mods), & less overall B.S. Sorry if that isn't the best possible answer, or what exactly you were sought. I did however want to share some of my experience (many, many, many hours of tinkering). All in all, I finally decided to order a new digitizer/lcd to repair an old OnePlus One that I have had laying around. I plant to fix it and migrate because I'll tell ya right now... ppl just aren't gonna do much more for this model than what you see out there. Perhaps I'm being a pessimist, but also realist... I've been waiting around looking for something to come, too lazy to attempt re-compilation of code myself, and no one else has yet. Magisk can be a nightmare to the ninth gate's extreme degree. It is possible, not saying it can't be done. Have patience, or it won't that's for sure. Just really have to mess up... lots of times... over and over, and over and over and over again. Learn, read XDA, and be stubborn/patient as hell until you get there. Document your progress so you know what you did and maybe you can help someone else. Other times it's more advantageous pick what matters, settle, and focus on something else. :good:

From my understanding you need a clean install, unroot with SU (or install SU as systemless (?)),wipe internal, and follow instructions to install Magisk... I'm not totally sure though, also install the Magisk module.

I just successfully rooted with Magisk & modded a few things out with it, only issue seemz to be systemless xposed but ill crack that shell when need be . Let me know if any1 is in need of help doing the same.

Can you please share the steps you followed to root ON5 pro using magisk.
Also if you can list the modules u have from magisk.

Please, please help. Can't Unroot or Return X-Play to Stock

I've really reached the end of the road here and I don't know anything else to do other than throw the phone in the bin. I bought an X Play XT1562 in the UK last year and I made the stupid, stupid mistake of flashing LineageOS on to it.
I followed all of the instructions to the letter, did all the necessary android upgrades, unlocked the bootloader, rooted it e.t.c... and it worked fine.
When it came time to restore it to a stock rom, I found out that I couldn't downgrade it and return it to stock due to LineageOS being a newer version of Android - either that or something to do with the bootloader. I've spent so long trying to rectify this situation, my memory is starting to get a bit fuzzy !
Anyway, I eventually found this thread with instructions on how to use ADB to flash the UK stock rom. I got errors on the partition flashing but I read somewhere else that you needed to keep going and enter all of the commands, which i did.
The phone did reboot and it did appear to be returned to stock, but when I went to check if it was still rooted, Super Su kept giving me the error "root access is not properly installed in this device".
And I simply cannot correct this, no matter what I try. I've tried flashing different versions of TWRP, re-rooting it with different versions of Super Su and even King Root and then using Super Su to remove root.
I've even tried re-rooting it and flashing the @osm0sis unSU script which flashes in TWRP and says it's removed root, but when i reboot and re-run Super Su, it still gives me "root access is not properly installed in this device". It's almost like it's burnt in to the rom of the phone at this rate.
If i can't remove this or correct it, the phone is as good as junk to me because I can't sell it otherwise so i'm really hoping someone has an idea or suggestion as to what might correct this situation.. thankyou if you can help.

That's the message SuperSU gives you when it's unrooted. Uninstall SuperSU again (or flash unSU again since it'll do that too), `fastboot format userdata` and you're done.

Thanks for the reply. Funnily enough I'm just waiting for the phone to boot up at the moment and optimise the apps after running your script so i'll try what you've suggested.
I was told in the second hand shop i tried to initially sell the phone in that when they run root checker, it shouldn't come up with any message regarding root, so if i can just get to that point then i can sell the damn thing.

It didn't work. The phone booted up and i ran root checker and still got the error "root access is not properly installed in this device".
I rebooted to TWRP and re-flashed it. I then rebooted back to the bootloader to try the erase userdata command but i kept getting an error saying something about it couldn't erase the date on a filesystem marked as "raw". I thenk rebooted the phone again and ran rootchecker again and it still gave me the error.
I used super su to unroot after that, rebooted and still got the error.
That all said, I've found another second hand shop that will take the phone as long as it works - the root error won't be an issue. as long as the phone is ok with receiving OTA updates (which it is, as i'm doing them at the moment) and is properly unlocked (which i'll test shortly) then I can sell it for some much needed money.
I've really run out of patience, energy and enthusiasm to try and fix this issue now so i'll take it to the other shop tomorrow. I just wish i'd never flashed LineageOS on it - i would have easily been able to return it to unrooted stock if i hadn't.

Try searching for any su folder in general. Due to systemless root, root goes away after a reset. I am guessing you flashed a version which was not systemless on MM and that caused the **** up. Why don't you try flashing the custom ROM and be happy with it ? The stock ROM are bloated and crap anyway. If you are planning to give your phone for updating/repair, it's futile anyway. Upgrade your phone to N or use other custom ROMs.
If you are still hell bent on getting rid of those files, root the phone using magisk and rule out any su files that you can find.
