I have an O2 XDA II which is unlocked and I have been successfully using it in the UK with a Vodafone sim which has GPRS enabled on it.
I'm now in the US for a period of time and have picked up T-Mobile as the preferred GPRS supplier that Vodafone say they have an agreement with.
The Vodafone sim has international roaming both for calls and GPRS but using the usual Vodafone APN=internet and user=web and password=web I can't get connected
Anyone else had a similar experience and solution?
Many thanks
I have a UK purchased O2 XDA exec, but now live in the USA. The O2 XDA exec is supposedly unlocked for any sim cards (I have been using a Virgin sim in the UK fine) .
I purchased a PAYG USA T-mobile sim that won't work, anyone got it working, or if I need a different kind of sim?
As soon as you put in the sim, it comes up with incorrect sim message.....
Is it possible that O2 could have it unlocked to European or UK but Locked to USA sim? Strangely there does not seem to be any way of putting in an unlock code in any case.... it just gives the incorrect sim message..............
Hopefully it will work with another sim???!!!
Any help greatlt appreciated!
I have a qtek 9000, which was never locked. I live in Poland, and tried 3 sim cards from plus gsm. They all gave the same message you are getting. The only card that worked successfully was the plus gsm 3g sim card. Also, cards from another company worked. There seems to be some difference in 'new' and 'old' sim cards, and the universal is very tempermental if you don't have the right one.

I have an O2 XDA EXEC from the UK which I purchase from a friend and have him sent to me here in the US. I am using Cingular without any problems.
Remeber guys, Not all operators in the US use the same frequencies/sim types as their European Counterparts.
If the sim is trying to operate on a frequecny that the universal is not able to use, then it might cause this problem.
superseagulls:
As far as I know - a device which is SIM UNlocked cannot be locked to specific SIMs.
It is far more likely that the cellular operator that you have purchased your new SIM in the USA from is using different frequencies than are supported by or in some cases selected within your device;
OR (possibly) the operator puts some usage limitations/locks within the SIM - ask your new operator about using GSM devices which are not purchased from them and which frequencies are used.
I suggest you initially ask them anonymously in case they DO have problems with devices other than their own
jasjar on T-mobile
I am using a jasjar on T-Mobile in the USA. I got 3 phones on a family plan, took the SIM out of one to put in jasjar, and it has worked with no problems. I told the sales lady I would be putting the SIM into a 3rd party device, and she didn't see any problem with that. It was a Motorola phone, but I don't have the model number offhand.
Cheers.

Your PAYG sim might be looking for special settings on the T-Mobile phone. When I workjed at T-Mobile UK we tied the Java extras on the SIM to the handset, so if you used a non t-mobile handset you didn't get the extra features.
You probably have an old 8k or 16k SIM,
Is it more than a year old,
The XDA Exec etc all require the latest 32k SIMs to work,
You should have no problem with T-Mobile USA just explain you need an updated SIM for a new phone
I have the same problem with Optus, Australia. Anyone know what frequency they run on?
Frequencies:
USA/Canada GSM 800, GSM 1900. UMTS 1900. UMTS 800
Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, Oceania: GSM 900, GSM 1800, UMTS 2100
South America: A mix of the above
The only SIMs which look for specific firmware in the US are TracFone and Net10. The SIM probably needs to be replaced. This is aproblem in other newer phones too
Someone help please. I got a UK Jasjar from a friend, tried to use Singapore (both M1 & Starhub) prepaid sim, though both registered a signal on the phone, I can't call out or call in on both Simcard; but it worked well with Postpaid Sim Card from both telco.
Is the locked from using pre-paid sim? how could it overcome this?
I suppose you have a problem with your radio. Try updating a newer radio rom (i.e. 1.09).
Travelled from UK to USA and using my HTC TyTN II changed UK O2 SIM card for an AT&T SIM card. Used loads of KOA Kamp sites wireless and once AT&T 3G SMS and voice services in USA and all worked fine.
Returned to UK removed AT&T SIM card inserted UK O2 SIM card and of course sods law my O2 SIM card will not register or connect to UK O2 Network.
HTC TyTN II dialogue box displays a message "Smart chip not provisioned MM 2" and that a data connection, that I cannot find, needs changing.
I Phoned the UK O2 customer services and very helpful a call centre operator says your phone needs replacing (like hell it does)
I suspect that registering the AT&T SIM card a registry setting is changed and that it is an altered that is causing the UK O2 network connection failure.
Is it possible that someone will tell me what has occurred and/or a solution?
PS Enjoyed the two white knuckle car rides Highway One South Big Sur to LA and Westport CA to Bodega Bay!
if it's a reg then a hardreset should set it straight
When a SIM Card not working "Think Simple"
Thank you
17 July 2007 called HTC technical support staff Edyta, reference 080717 UK 08315084 replaced O2 SIM card that will not connect to Network.
Retest using T-Mobile SIM TyTN II works just fine. Insert an O2 XDA other O2 SIM Card and TyTN II works just fine. Contacting O2 for a replacement SIM. O2 sending replacement SIM card with failed SIM card existing mobile number and carried forward credit.
Moral here is think simple
I know this has been covered before but has anyone found away of using a 3G sim (orange) on the prophet?
I have a m600 that i have installed wm6.1 on but i havn't tried unbranding it yet...? does that help?
Would using a dual sim with only the 3g sim card in there work?
I am desperate to get this working as I lost my other phone and can't stand my old w850 any more!!
