I wasn't paying attention, got frustrated and completely deleted all files from the device. Yes, I typed "YES" and did the deed. I have no idea why I did it- I know better and do not even drink.
My question is, obviously, can I fix it? Disregarding my previous lack of judgement, I am fairly bright and should be able to figure it out with a little guidance. Can I get it back to full stock? I believe I have all the tools I need. BTW, the phone is brand new.
Humbly yours,

Wow, that must be frustrating! Can you access the bootloader and recovery? If you can't, than you are f****ed. If you can, than download a stock firmware image somewhere make sure you have the right one (don't flash XT1644 software on an XT1642) , unpack it and then use mfastboot and ADB the flash the original rom. Google your way around here how to do so!

I suspect TWRP. If you go to Wipe > Format Data it'll ask you to type in "yes" before allowing you to format.

Correct.
I was able to get everything back to stock using this method that they sourced through this link.
I used the Factory firmware and manually flashed all commands. Works great! Thanks to XDA and those who replied- much appreciated.
Not able to set up Moto G4 Plus
Hi guys, need your help in setting up my Moto G4 plus device.
It was initially in my hands of my father who set a password and set up the phone with his Gmail address.
Unfortunately when it reached my hands, he forgot the password because of which I had to perform a hard factory reset.
Now the problem is that when I try to set up the phone once more, it asks me to key in the Gmail address which was used earlier to set up the device, however it does not accept the Gmail address which my father had used earlier. Is there any way I can still set up the device ?
Send it to care center

Hey guys,
wahoo! new droid-x user here! Picked up a used on craigslist and so far everything seems to check out. ESN is clean and so far functioning pretty well.
One thing is that the previous user still has a lot of his stuff on there, his email, some stock and bank stuff are still on there. I want to clean up and start from a factory reset so I can start clean and I don't mess with his stuff.
I did a search and it looks like there are 2 methods, but the thing that I'm worried about is that one of the threads, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740285, it mentions that if some apps are removed beforehand DO NO do a reset or it will brick it.
---------------------------------------------------------
Also if you've removed or renamed Back-Up Assistant and do a reset, you'll end up with a semi-bricked phone.
---------------------------------------------------------
NO. DO NOT WIPE IF YOU REMOVED ANY BLOAT APPS.
If you do this you can kiss your phone goodbye.
Read this thread to tell you how to put back the apps the RIGHT way before you wipe, otherwise, you will be without a phone.http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/dr...otlooping.html
==================
My first question, how do I verify that it is okay to do a factory reset?
My second queestion is which method should I use?
Thanks in adv!
Here are the two methods I've found, which is the correct one?
Method 1:
To do a proper factory reset follow these: 1.Go to Settings 2.Scroll to Privacy 3.Click Factory Data Reset 4. Confirm action by clicking Reset Phone.
Method 2:
1)Turn off the phone
2)Hold the Power Button and the Home Button. The Moto logo will pop up followed by a triangle with the Android symbol next to it.
3)Press the Search button to display the menu.
4)4 options will pop up, use the Volume Rocker to move the selection up or down.
5)Select “Wipe Data to Factory Default.” Select the option by using the Camera hard key.
6)Confirm choice by using the camera key.
7)It will take you back to the original menu, select "Reboot Device"
You will have to re-program your phone with OTA updates.

Both methods will work actuqlly. If you truly want to go to a fresh state... I would recommend an sbf. Go to settings-->about phone. What does it say for android version?
I can point you to the correct files depending on what version you are on.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Thanks SysAdmin ... it says Android version 2.2.1

Sbf is a file that motorola uses to reflash a phone to out of the box state. Just to double check, power off your phone, then hold volume down + camera button while holding the power button (this is known as bootloader). If it says 30.04 for the bootloader version, then you are definitely on the most recent update.
Try this link if you are confident with technical details:
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/09/droid-x-2-3-340-system-sbf-released-for-2-3-320-leak-users/
If you prefer to flash files through bootstrap, then use this link:

Personally, I would use the link titled Motorola 4.8.0 Driver with MotoConnect. It keeps your driver's up to date and automatically identifies just about any Motorola device. I always use it for my gf's OG Droid and my DX.
If you can't get RSD Lite 4.9 to work, I still use 4.8. You can download the zip here.

I got RSD Lite 4.9 to install, wahoo!
I noticed there was a disclaimer on there that says once you upgrade to 2.3.340, you cannot downgrade.
Is this an issue, and what is the main reason to upgrade to 2.3.340?
And how is this different from doing a:

Well, this is no real "issue" but more of a disclaimer because once you upgrade to newer software version, you can not go back to previous hardware versions because of the files it flashes to your phone. I don't know how much of this is true seeing that your can do a full SBF to .320
I'm sure people can go plenty in depth about this but it's irrelevant either way.
340 is just the newest software version. Newer software fixes bugs, updates files and other components of your phone.
If you go to settings, about phone, and it already said Android Version 2.2.1, Baseband version BP_C_01.09.07P and Kernel version 2.6.32.9-g55626e1, then you are already up to date. Just go to Privacy and factory data reset the phone.
Doing a SBF with RSD Lite is in extreme cases that you soft brick your phone when it’s a must just to get it back to stock. It’s optional in your case.
Reset and you should be all good

ah, thanks ben, the only reason I'm hesitant of doing the reset is because on the thread listed in OP, people mentioned that doing a reset can brick your phone and since I don't know what was removed from this phone, I didn't want to risk bricking it.

Well, is your phone rooted? Did the person tell you if they removed apps and all that? More then likely no unless they specified. The OP is correct in stating that if you go to update or factory reset with missing apps, root and all that jazz...you will end up with a bootloop and have to SBF with RSD Lite.
The previous owner might have deleted apps here and there but without root, he could not have removed the apps that would make your phone brick. I think paranoia is getting the best of you lol.

Glad to hear you got things working. I would recommend if you are technically competent, and able to follow directions to a 'T' you should root your phone...it opens lots of possibilities on the X. If you are nervous about any mods (not trying to be mean...but it sounds like you're nervous) then I would recommend reading up on threads and guides before rooting and modifying your phone. A $600 paperweight for a phone never did anyone ever good.
Here is a guide I have put together and am adding to as I can. It should be a good place to start reading and get you covered for basics.

Hi everybody, I enjoyed my stock N4 for almost a year and today several apps started to crash suddenly, after that the device rebooted itself and never got out of the bootloop. I immediatly booted into recovery and tried to wipe the cache memory and perform a factory reset but I cannot do either of the two, the error I get is something like "can't mount cache partition".
What should I do? How did this happen?!? I really need my phone back asap.
Thanks everybody!

I'll give it a shot thanks, but I am afraid that the fastboot flash error is pretty clear :crying:
I get the phone being a computer, and I am totally ready to reload an OS...but I am not so ready to see the storage fails so suddenly leaving me with no phone, especially because this phone has received more care than any other phone I ever had..

If its failing when he does it manually via fastboot commands, its very unlikely that using a toolkit will change anything. A toolkit simply runs the same fastboot commands behind a GUI.
Switched to windows to give the toolkit a try, then I will follow the unbrick procedure...I still cannot believe that this phone is lost without even having experienced the fun to mess it up with my own hands

As expected: toolkit not working. Since the bootloader " relocks" itself after rebooting the toolkit is unable to flash it afterwards.
Will try to contact google support but I am currently living in Europe I don't think it will be easy to get help.
Any other help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everybody.
1. if its within the warrenty period, this is something that would be covered.
2. its fixable. it can be professionally repaired, or you can try to do it yourself with the right parts.
but you will lose whatever you had in your storage, if you havent already.
another case reported :/
i think some batches of nexus 4 contains emmc brick bugs
just see this thread, more then 5 or 6 have been reported here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2259334
so after reading that thread i **** my self, because if this occured to my nexus i will have no warranty no google claims no nothing because i live in Pakistan.
So i ran emmc check app on my phone to check what it shows.
my emmc check shows i have "NO, Sane chip"
this means i am safe? if it give me "Yes, Insane chip" then i,m not safe according the my theory.
EMMC check app also shows the chip type, my chip type is "016g92"
googling this chip type i came across no specific results, one from S3 sudden death thread discussion. one person reports he have the 016g92 type and it is a safe chip according to other folks.
and one person having a galaxy s3 bricked his emmcs chip and claim the warranty. after the phone returns his chip type change to 016g92
http://smartphone.usofttech.com/t85915.html
so they change the emmc chip to 016g92.
can i surely assume that my nexus is safe from this serious hardware defect?
also any one here run the emmc chip and do give there chips type here, as i want to confirm if i,m safe or not. if not i,m going to sale my phone here. because the lose will be unbearable for me if the brick did occured

PHONE BACK FROM THE DEAD!!!
So I got in touch with google's customer care to arrange the RMA and just to show them that my phone was impossible to recover I jumped ahead and told 'em: ok let's do a factory reset together so that I can show you what's the problem....
Fastboot>recovery>>data wipe....COMPLETED!
I cannot understand why did it work, I tried to wipe it at least ten times yesterday.
So now I have my N4 back working. What's your opinion on what happened? Do you feel like the problem is going to show up again soon? Is there anything I should do now that it's working? I just did a factory reset, not the cache wipe.
Just FYI: RMA from oversea is a pain in the ass, you have to ship the phone back to somebody in the U.S. and THEN ask for the RMA.
I wish I had your luck, mine did the same thing about 2 weeks ago. Couldn't get it to factory reset either. Mounting issue. My RMA came in yesterday. I'm enjoying the new phone though. It's even got the little nubs on the back. Mine original was a creaky 1st or 2nd batch one, I think. I will miss all the memories, pics, and data on my old one though.

Dear guys,
due to problems within this morning, i restarted my phone to wipe dalvik/cache.
But it occured that TWRP somehowe needs to have a password (which i didn't ever set though).
Didn't boot up at all now. Even with toolkit no chance to do anything with the device.
Any further suggestions/ideas?
Try flashing the factory image without using a tool kit. Google nexus 4 factory image. Download it to your pc and extract it. Run the flash-all.bat you'll find in there.

Some Partitions of the phone have got some bad blocks causing it to act in such a way !! Seems RMA(if available) is the best recourse since there is no definative solution to this problem !! You can try hard reboot as well as someone once pointed out that his n4 magically restored during it but others dint have that much of luck !! Also u could give LGNPST a try but since that also writes the partition it is highly unlikely to get you through !! One Solution I know will surely work is Qualcomm PST using the HighSpeed USB Device . But unfortunately we need an expert help, probably a Qualcomm employee to get in touch with since the tool has still not been cracked by anyone for n4 though I read somewhere that someone was able to restore using QPST !! Also mostly a JTAG Repair can help you but thats a rip off !! I'll anyday prefer a official LG/Google Repair over a JTAG !!
Hope you find my post useful !!
THanks Guys,
JD5, it didn't work.

I was afraid of that. Try one thing. Relock the bootloader, fastboot oem lock, then re-boot and see if the bootloader locks. If it doesn't, and it probably won't, then rma is your option.
Edit, haha, I just read that thread you posted and they tried the same thing

i was already trying that. at first it seems that the bootloader got locked again but right after restart it is already unlocked again.
I guess RMA will cause problems due to the fact that it was a rooted Nexus, using a custom rom.

Google seems to have been pretty good with rma's when it's a hardware failure. Pretty sure your emmc is borked. But you never know until you send it in. Hopefully there won't be a problem.

Ok I'll give it a try on monday. But as far as i know, i'll need to call them first.
I could imagine that they'll try to let me wipe my data or give me any kind of instructions to see if they can resolve the problem right away? What do i tell them?
At latest when they'll lead me to the recovery i'll get stuck using TWRP at latest.
Any kind of conversation dialogue i can follow up?
Let's try one more thing, inside the factory image is a zip file, extract that. In there is recovery.img. Put that file in the same folder as fastboot.exe. In fastboot try fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
If it works it'll put the stock recovery on.

Nope, same issue " flash write failure"
I can't get any kind o access...
But don't leave any more thoughts on it. Won't work though, i won't want to bother you all the time

It won't let you flash that either to the best of my knowledge !! Just don't tell those operators that you have unlocked your bootloader and have a custom recovery !! Basically they won't tell u to go into stock recovery !! They'll just ask you hard reset the phone using physical keys !! Bdw check my pm !!

Np, not sure what to tell them. It still boots I assume so you can't tell them it won't boot. I guess just the truth, it is a developer phone after all so it should be flashable

I'm in a quandary. I bought a used Moto X XT1595 32GB from Amazon Warehouse and received it yesterday. Looks like the previous owner never removed his/her Google account from the phone so when I try to run it for the first time I'm hitting the "Verify Your Account" screen The rom currently on it is Lollipop. When I went to recovery I found out that not only is it rooted but it has TWRP 2.8.7.0 on it. I proceeded to download a MM rom and flash it it, everything went well, the phone booted but still returned me to the Verify screen.
I called Amazon and explained the problem and they offered to accept it as a return. This is great but they no longer have any used ones to replace it with (32GB Black for $279). The phone purchase was a bargain and I'd love to keep it if I can bypass the ADP, otherwise I will return it.
Is there any rom or anything else I can do to get around this? The phone otherwise is in great shape. Thanks
Factory reset in recovery didnt do the trick?

If the device is rooted and contains TWRP, shouldn't you simply be able to wipe/factory reset from recovery to eliminate the security? Did you do a full wipe before flashing MM? I can't imagine that Android Device Protection would persist through a full wipe via recovery and ROM flash. Also, did you update TWRP before flashing MM? There is a newer version 2.8.7.1 here.
You are out of luck. You will have to contact the previous owner. There is no way around it.

Have you tried this restore to stock tool for windows? Worth a shot.

I see no reason why this shouldn't work.
Definitely worth a shot OP.

Nope, you need to do a factory reset from the settings menu.
I used flashed 5.1.1 from 6 without doing the reset in GUI, and sure enough the device protection kicked up.
I did see a post where you can use a rom with persistent ADB enabled, use ADB to launch the settings menu, and factory reset that way. Since TWRP is installed, you might be able to use that route?

While I was looking into this subject I came across this video. Might be worth checking out, @ItsDon.

Everything I've read online says it cannot be done. I tried everything from changing recoveries, to flashing 5.1.1 & 6.0 roms, factory resetting everything etc. but no luck. Google really has this thing locked down. The link you provided however worked perfectly! I was just about to give up and send it back to Amazon but you saved the day - thank you

Oh, that's awesome. Glad it helped.
Hello guys!
I'm in need of a help here. I have selected the infamous USA radio band on my Moto X Play XT1562/EU/6.0.1 and now only have access to 4G network, no calls available.
As i don't have access to a a computer atm, can anyone make a backup of modem and fsg partition using Partitions Backup app, upload it, or send it to me privately.
I know about the erase modemst1/2 commands, they work, i purposely selected the USA band again, to see, if i can fix this problem without a computer. I don't really understand why such a thing is so hard to revert...
I tried flashing the modem firmware with Flashfire by extracting the FW files from stock ROM, but no success so far. Maybe if i use the PB app and try restoring the partition from there, it would revert back to normal EU band. I'm highly doubtful this works though.
I would appreciate if anyone would make that backup and upload, any other suggestions on how to revert the problem without using fastboot/adb would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Not possible. Get a computer, download whatever brand stock rom, extract the required files and flash it. You can find more information on this in the General section as there are threads regarding stock firmware downloads.
Alright, thanks for the answer. I'm still puzzled as why this is so hard to revert though.

When you flash system it ovewrites the target location and deletes what was previously there. In order to revert it you need to flash the original, and the easiest way to do so is with a computer. If you had made a backup before making changes then you wouldn't be in this situation mate

I understand, but still, just one click and it lets overwrite such critical information all too easily, if i was a total noob and not knew how to use google i would be very frustrated. Also, it's a bit of a security flaw in disguise IMO. People with bad intentions can just tap the code on the phone, change the band, and there you have it. The owner would have no calls and no idea what has happened. This is something that phone makers or devs need to take in considersation and possibly change it or remove the option alltogether. I understand laypeople are not supposed to mess with these unknown codes, but curiosity won't let us stop doing stupid things.

Do you frequently hand your phone over and let people reprogram it?
It's not a flaw, it's a feature. Not a useful one to the end user, but a feature none the less. That is like blaming an oven manufacturer, or the water company when you burned yourself on boiling water on top of it.
Alright, well i did exaggerate a bit but, still. Too easy to mess up and not so easy to revert is my point. I don't even understand why this feature is available. What purpose does it serve? Who wants to permanently switch to USA band without having an option to switch back to the old one. This is a bit mystical.
