So, they had the ZTE USA webinar talking about the release.
In no particular order (and I'm sure I missed some points since I'm going from memory):
they listened to the beta testers and community chatter and added the capacitive buttons back into the US base model
this change is what delayed the release slightly
gold model will be released first (July 27th) followed by the quartz grey (Aug 16th/17th -- BestBuy and webinar disagreed on date) -- no plans for the silver one in the US
pre-orders are available now at ZTE (their website and eBay), Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and B&H for $399
notification LED is present and RGB (he specifically remembered red and green being there)
they've heard the feedback on the bootloader unlocking and been in discussions with R&D about the best way to do it -- they said it's an "when" not an "if", but it won't be at launch because that would meant another delay
it will have Tap to Wake
they've been working on the imaging code constantly -- every update they've done has had changes for it
it is band compatible with Sprint and Verizon but will not work with them at launch -- if they can get it certified, it will probably only need an OTA to work with them
updates will be on a monthly schedule to line up with Google and to not over annoy users with frequent OTA updates (the only exception was for a critical security updates from Google)
they are planning the 6 GB/128 GB model to be released in the US at some point in the future, but they wouldn't commit to any time frame
they are working with Google on getting the phone DayDream certified
they are committed to an Android Nougat release as soon as possible but wouldn't comment on a date (he seemed to imply they were working with Google on this to get it out more quickly)
microSD slot was limited to 128 GB [although, I see no reason why it couldn't use higher than that, since most of the 32 GB limited ones work fine with larger capacity]
they will be posting the rest of the answers on the ZTE USA Community Forum over the next few days, including if the retail partners are included in the Passport 2.0 program [I'm not sure what distinction was being made here, since they had already said the full warranty would apply from any retailer]
Of course, this was from ZTE USA, so mention of the what the European model will get.
Only non-Axon related thing was asking about ZTE doing a Nexus with Google, and the gist of it was that even if they were planning something, he couldn't talk about it because Google likes to be secretive with the Nexus program.
Edit: Webinar posted now on Youtube -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyP4Wr8ApSo
Sounds like they are responding well to user input. Never really seen anything like it before.
I'm glad I pre-ordered today! With effort like this, I'm more than happy to show my support. (And it was nice hearing them say they'd love to make a Nexus.)
>it is band compatible with Sprint and Verizon but will not work with them at launch -- if they can get it certified, it will probably only need an OTA to work with them
I'm pressing ZTE to see if CDMA support (not specifically Verizon/Sprint support, since they aren't the only CDMA carriers) is at least turned on out of the box.

Having it disabled in the phone at launch will probably discourage people from trying something stupid before Verizon/Sprint "flip the switch" and is also probably to ensure that those companies look upon ZTE as favourably as possible and don't delay too long.
Who else provides CDMA over there? do those others have their own networks or do they rely on Verizon/Sprint towers, the latter would to my mind mean that they are still bound by the wishes of Verizon/Sprint.
Anyone have one of their elusive $50 discount codes for the Axon 7? I would like to preorder one, but the California tax is killing me.

Curious, but what stupidity are they trying to discourage? The OP3 has CDMA enabled for Verizon, people are able to make calls/data fine, Verizon doesn't seem to care (I doubt they'll ever officially support it), and people don't seem to be breaking their phones to connect to Verizon (just pop in the SIM and go). The later part does make sense though.
Other CDMA carriers include US Cellular (5th biggest, right below Sprint), and smaller regional providers. They all run their own CDMA networks. A pretty comprehensive list is available on Wikipedia, look for the ones with Voice Technology CDMA2000, Data Technology EV-DO (and LTE): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_wireless_communications_service_providers
EDIT: I gave a listen to the Webinar that was posted on Youtube. It looks like the hardware is in place, but CDMA is disabled in the software for all carriers until Verizon/Sprint give support. Bummer.

Yeah, it's actually fairly unusual -- they actually changed the model design based on early feedback. It seems like they are really trying to grow the brand in the US, and want a popular flagship to go with it. Since they've only really made mid- to low-end phones before, makes sense they would want to keep people happy to build the buzz.
I wish they'd had a better answer on the bootloader, but as long as they follow through, that's fine. I'd rather have them listen and deliver it late and have it never happen.

I think there was already quite a bit of negative feedback on the Chinese forums about the lack of capacitive buttons on the lesser model (if I was reading the badly translated stuff from Bing translator correctly) before things really got going outside China so it may be more of a general willingness to listen than trying to grow a specific market.

It is not about "if" but about "when".

Well ****. Hopefully this is not the case for the European model. Otherwise all hope is pointed at the Nexus. But the Nexus won't have front firing speakers... However I rather have software buttons than front firing speakers.
While I'm not a huge fan of capacitive buttons for the most part, I'd prefer them to having on-screen buttons burned in due to the weaknesses of current OLED technology.
Gee it's great that they are listening to us and it's also great that the 128GB/6GB version will be released outside of China.

Most likely is, just like how 64GB+ cards can work in phones that state that they only support up to 32GB if you format it correctly.

This would be awesome, I just hope it isn't too good to be true.
UK only? i dont understand why that would be..
i am assuming they have exclusivity for the UK, probably not for the US. i think they are somehow related to best buy, which could possibly mean the n2 will be sold in "actual" stores.
There's no Nexus Two and there will be no Nexus Two
It could be real because we need a next generation developer phone for more advanced stuff that the old Nexus One doesn't support due to its current hardware. In order for Google to develop a better on screen multitouch keyboard, and other advanced gestures, the Nexus One's poor touchscreen won't do it. If Gingerbread is confirmed to have native front facing camera support, they will need a new hardware with a front facing camera to test it on. Google might also add a gyroscope and other innovative hardware (including a higher resolution screen) in the new phone to set another standard for the 2011 high end Android phones.
4"screen with front facing camera...
I would get it...
nexus two article from phandroid
Nexus Two Launching Alongside Gingerbread in Time for the Holidays?
by Kevin Krause on October 26th, 2010
An interesting report has surfaced from London-based business paper City A.M. that claims the followup to the Nexus One — what very well could be dubbed the Nexus Two — will be released through an exclusive deal with Carphone Warehouse in the UK as the second Google-branded Android handset. This comes as a new but similar approach to the sale of the original N1, moving away from a single Google-owned site pedaling the smartphone but still bucking carrier obligations.
Other than the fact that City A.M. happens to be a pretty reputable source, we have plenty of reasons to believe the Nexus Two is real. What better way to launch the latest update to Android, Gingerbread, then alongside a brand new Nexus handset? The discontinuation of sales through Google of the Nexus One over the summer and the throttling back of N1 support through the soon to be read-only forums all hint at an upcoming successor, especially after Google bigwigs remain incessant that they haven’t given up on their handheld ventures, only the model they originally used to sell mobile phones.
Questions still remain unanswered, including which manufacturer might take the reigns on the Nexus Two. Google could very well stick with HTC, though Motorola and their top-secret Tegra 2 handset remains a viable option. Heck, we may have even already spied the Nexus Two floating around as a codenamed device. What’s your guess?

N1 is still a highly capable device. Don't see a reason why Big G would release N2 so soon. HTC and Samsung are making more powerful devices that can support gingerbread so hardware is already there.
Could be the Samsung Google experience phone ...
It's beyond reason the lengths that Samsung goes to not support their current and prospective customers.
About 2 months ago I started my quest for a 64Gb or 32Gb version of the 7.7
Contacting the Portuguese Samsung Customer Support line, I was greeted by a Brazilian-Portuguese speaking operator (...you most probably don't know this but Brazilian Portuguese is not quite the same as the original language and, as such, the use of different expressions and pronunciation can turn any technical support exchange into a very irritating exercise...).
The lady was a-b-s-o-l-u-t-l-y clueless about what was being asked, so the inquiry terminated in frustration.
Since we are such a small market, I investigated a little and managed to circumvent the "official" (non)support network by obtaining the direct phone number to Samsung Portugal.
I've managed to talk to someone in charge over there and, luckily, things are on the right track now, as far as information for the Portuguese market is concerned...but only because I have "inside access".
...but, being that I travel a lot across Europe and have several days frequent stays in the Netherlands, I decided to contact Samsung Holland about the availability for the said models over there. I figured I might grab hold of one of the larger capacity models, while in Amsterdam.
Trying to get back to the Support phone line (Dutch version) proved impossible, as it features a 0900 number that is unreachable from outside Holland, so I resorted to an email inquiry.
Check out this "non-reply" I just received and tell me if Samsung is not testing their customers patience:
Hi,
I travel frequently to the Netherlands.
When will the 32 and 64Gb versions of the GT-P6800 be available and where can I find them in the Amsterdam area?
Thank you,
Client number: xxxxxxxx
Dear Mr. xxxxxx,
Thank you for your e-mail concerning the Samsung GT-P6800.
Samsung offers its customers an extensive dealer and distribution network throughout the Netherlands. An authorized Samsung dealer (and / or distributor) may specialize in a particular type of product. They also have a difference between stocks and groups of products from Samsung.
It is also possible that a "subtype" of an article is not displayed on our website because it is in limited edition and sold by one or more parties exclusively with different product specifications.
These are the reasons we can't give an exact price, inventory and comparative technical information to determine, in relation to deliverability for the product mentioned. We therefore advise you to inquire at a Samsung dealer, distributor and / or retailer in your area (available via internet, telephone directories, information services).
For further question, you can always contact us on the telephone number 0900-SAMSUNG(0900-7267864) for Holland or 022012418 for Belgium, on workdays from 09.00 -18.00 o'clock.
For a quick and efficient treatment of your problems, we advise you to have the following data by hand: Your Customer number, your IMEI-number and the type of your mobile phone.
We hope to have informed you sufficiently.
Yours sincerely,
XXXXXX

I disagree.
Together with my previous experiences with Samsung (...the same kind of thing happened exactly the same way when I tried to procure an BR/HD-DVD player, the BD-UP5000 a few years ago...), this points out to a kind of "unsupport" people should be aware of.

Heh "Senior Member" just means 100 posts. It's a pointless rank.
Some questions do not have solid answer.
And they can not just said "We dont know" do they?
Even they are Samsung, it doesnt mean they know everything about their own market plan; the HQ may not come up with the release date or release area yet so they really have no info to answer. And again they cant answer "We dont know".
In the end you get a lengthy reply with equal meaning to "We dont know".
I think the technical support provided by Samsung on their Official Site and via telephone and other specialist sites such as their firmware site is normal for a large manufacturer but not outstanding.
The release information of new models such as the 32GB/64GB is probably only known to a few people within the higher echelons of Samsung who will release it when they are ready and that is no different from other manufacturers. However, as someone who is impatient to get ICS I understand how you feel.

Fair enough...at least we know how unorganized they stand.
Since day 1, with the GT-P1000, I can't shake this feeling that Samsung has kind of a "Tsunami" approach to this tablets things...They keep pouring and pouring models out, in "fuzzy" all-out-all-in" approach that even they can't keep pace and track of.
How difficult can it be to announce a model, it's various incarnations and, come the "D" day, have them all in the stores for the customers to choose from?
Apple does it, so...
...as far as the support regarding information about their product goes, in my continuous experience, they better get their act together or they will fail miserably short of the top Android tabs global player they're aiming to be.
With Apple in mind and adopting a oriental tone about Samsung, if I may: "No mater how much he may which so, a cat does not become a tiger just because he thinks he can roar".
XK
Even App** will have hard time keeping track of the products if they have so much models and model variations like Sammy.
At the moment App** do not(or can not) release their products at the same time in many countries, and "not at the same time" means many months delay with no solid release date too. There is no official "The New iPad" here yet in Thailand and also many other countries.

Don't even go there...there's no comparison.
Apple announced the 3rd generation iPad March 7th, 2012. They announced 6 models x 2 colors.
On the 16th of March it was released in the US. All 6 models, in two colors.
Since then, it has steadily been released across the globe in 55 different counties (Thailand will added to the list soon, as I understand it)
All the announced 6 models. In the announced 2 colors.
We're talking a flawless launch at global scale in about 2 months.
If I decided right now to buy one, I would have it delivered at my door, from Apple Portugal within 5 working days. No inquiries. No endless searches. No clueless "support" operators.
Just one of the 6 models in one of the 2 colors I would have chosen from.
...All I am saying is that Samsung really goes the extra mile for us, their customers, to feel alienated.
If it wasn't for the obnoxious format, the inferior display (for photography) and the "gated", non-adaptive-fully-exclusive philosophy behind their products I know which "buy" button, I would be clicking right now...

As cold as the reply you got from Samsung it seems to be, they are telling you the truth. 32GB and 64GB version of SGT 7.7 exists, but are not selling on global scale. I have been told they launched them in India, but beyond that I have little knowledge with. As it was not intended to be a global launch, a direct comparison with iPad is not quite appropriate.
For a heavy user like myself I think 16GB version is sufficient, though I wouldn't mind extra 48GB if it's available.
For a company that exists to sell things, they shouldn't make it so hard to buy their things. They should have a database of products and where to get them. Not, 'I don't know, you figure it out.'

I don't know about Samsung, but some other vendors operating on international scale would actually discourage their staff from releasing products information like pricing and availability outside their own region. This is called regional market segmentation, its purpose is to maximize profit on their own region. (Yes, I know Apple is an exception, because they tend to sell at perpetual high price)
Say, they won't want to let customers in Hong Kong know that they could get a 64G version in India for half the price of 16G in Hong Kong. (Just an example, not for real )

Sorry, I don't think you've read the reply right.
To the question "When and where would this product be available in the Netherlands" they replied by, basically, sending me on a wild-goose chase around the country (mine?).
This is no way to treat anyone in any kind of relation, let alone for a manufacturer to treat its clients.
I buy a lot of electronics and photography related items and, I can assure you, this is not the norm.
Once contacted, the manufacturers usually check when and where the requested item is available, or where it will be or, if permanently not available, informs what the limitations are.
...In fact, this was the very same logical and respectful approach I got from Samsung Portugal, once I figured how to talk directly to them !
It's just this "Official Support" masquerade that they have put in place that behaves in this unsporting way.

I actually side with you, but not in the obvious way that you could notice. I think I should make my stance on all these for you now.
The guilt in Samsung is too deep that there is no manageable way to right the wrong they have done to you. I was so furious when I came to the part where they gave you a Brazilian-Portuguese speaking support while all you were asking is a less Brazillian one. same thing for me around the time the tab plus was released. I called multiple samsung reps, chatted online scoured all the websites. For a few days I believed there would be no 3G version with voice.
Until someone on Xda sent me the link where he bought his in malaysia.
Since then I have absolutely given up on their support.
I had even said, I understand the 3G version will not likely come to US, as the first one didnt make it, and I can understand that, but is there anywhere in the world, I said; that "might" (hint) be selling these?

For a moment I had some hopes, as some Swiss and Austrian sites listed a 32Gb version, but it was also a hoax. All the ones I contacted said they had none and didn't know when they might have.

I would highly advise that you don't. The version you'll receive is most likely the Chinese OPO which has limited bands for connectivity.

Thanks for your help.

Additionally I would ask whether or not his version comes with ColorOS or CM otherwise you may have to flash CM over it. Sorry I don't know the bands for Europe, I couldn't tell you.
Given OPO can't seem to make enough international versions and so ship straight from the factory to consumers, I'd agree these are likely to be the Chinese edition which anyone can get relatively easily. There's LTE unknowns as well as warranty concerns.
Plus, the term 'special price' almost always means a tidy profit for those involved except the buyer. Not something I'd get involved with given the risks and unknowns.
I would guard against linking anything as, despite claims to the contrary, the OP has more than a whiff of a sales pitch about it that aims to attract PMs.

Im only asking about if you would buy in another store, not trying to sell anything. I didin´t want to post links to avoid problems, I was only asking, not trying anything. I chatted with the seller and he said that is the Chinese edition and can sell the phone for 357,99$ instead 421$ that appears in his advert, and I want only to ask if its a good price and if you would buy it if were me. Hope to get this solved, I only want help, anything more. I have been reading about the bands and seems like will work in Europe, but if someone can confirm this would be great.

I have a Chinese OPO purchased from Aliexpress. I'm using it in Europe (Greece) and it works just fine. Never had any issues with dropped calls and mobile data works great. Everything is as stable as you'd expect.
Bought the 64GB white version for 350 euros including shipping through FedEx. All in all, yes I'd recommend buying outside of the invite system if you do your research beforehand.

So you do get 4g in greece with chinese opo?
If you live outside America you should pretty much be fine with the bands the Chinese One Plus supports: Importing the One Plus One From China - LTE Bands & What You Need To Know
Do your research and you will be fine, importing is the way to go. I've had the phone for over 2 months now and am loving it. :good:
I bought mines from swappa. International version 64gb Sandstone
I just bought the 64GB Chinese model from Hong Kong Goldway on Aliexpress yesterday. Waiting for it to ship and should have it next week hopefully. The bands work fine here so no dramas. AU$500 total which included 3 day DHL shipping. I'm from the UK so getting a flagship phone like this for 280 GBP is amazing.
Bought the 16gb version from to2c.com
Could choose between color os and multilanguage version. Chose for the second one and had it in two weeks (to the netherlands). Everything works fine. Connectivity is good. Only 4g is very limited

I'm supposed to buy one today. The package is sealed, but I'm concerned about service and warranty for the phone since I didn't purchase it under the invite system. Should I buy it? I heard some yellow screen, touch screen, sound issues, etc.

If you're outside of China you're likely going to have support and service issues should you need it, regardless of where you bought the phone.

Will it be your daily driver? If so, I'd look at something that I could get repaired easily and quickly in places I traveled to. Preferably something with a lot of worldwide service centers. Or have two phones (not necessarily two of the same) in case one needed to be repaired for a certain period of time.
If you read the various OPO boards, you'll know just getting a support ticket acknowledged can take time. Additionally, if you travel frequently, you might not be in one place long enough to hang around for a replacement to be sent to your location. A walk-in, no fuss model like Apple does with it's stores is a good 'safety net'. But it costs.
I run two phones. Either my 5s or M7 as primary with OPO as my backup since I'm mostly ROM testing at the moment. Wouldn't have a problem with the OPO as primary but I'd not take it as my only phone. And no way would I use just an OPO if traveling or on business for the reasons above.

I'll be looking for a different device because I can't afford those issues.
" As of 11am EST, pre-orders have yet to begin. It'll be available in stores on November 12th according to a T-Mo press release, as well."
And sourcing from all the people that pre-order it will "leave warehouse on 21st", but T-Mo will get it in store 12th?!
This doesn't make any sense.
I honestly believe that google is purposely creating this hype, so all the media will be talking about it...well to get more people to talk about Nexus 6. Smart move, Google.

Of course they are. Just like Apple does with the iPhone and Sony does with their consoles. Harder to get = higher demand. People always want what they can't have. Simple logic. :good:
Yup. I'll be going to the T-mobile store on November 12 in the AM hoping they have some in stock
I have a feeling that date is no longer accurate. But I hope I'm wrong.
Hard to say? Google could have had a more than we think made but have a certain ammount set aside for each carrier?

Not my reply but somebody asked them
https://twitter.com/TMobileHelp/status/527832080588496897
Apparently they are only getting the Blue version.
I've been with T-Mo for a year now and with the exception of the iPhone 6 pre-orders have been arriving either the day of launch or a day early on every major device since I joined up. Nexus demand isn't going to be anywhere near iPhone demand, so I am guessing that it will be the same here.

I've been getting mixed stories on this. Let's just hope they get the white.
Does anyone know if the T-Mobile version will be any different than the one from Google?

If they do then I'll be walking in and out with a 64gb white.
Some questions:
Will the T-Mobile version will be locked down to T-Mobile only? Meaning the resale value is going to tank?
Will it have any T-Mobile branding on the front and/or back?
Will the T-Mobile version be the only one capable of Wi-Fi calling AKA Wi-Fi Unleashed?
Can it be bought outright, or does it require a contract? I currently have the T-Mobile/Walmart $30 plan, and I'd like to stay on that if possible.

T-Mobile will be unlocked. The issue will be having the CDMA carriers adding the IMEI to their system. Using on At&t will not be a problem.
No T-Mobile branding
No idea on that one
If trying to buy our right make sure you go to a Corporate store. Retailers will most likely deny the sale of it without service. They will most likely tell you they don't have any.
Anyone know what time the online orders for the 64 will go live?

WiFi calling is actually a Lolipop feature, so theoretically all carrier versions will support it. That doesn't mean they will actually work when you try to use it, though - since VZT and ATT have not rolled it out yet it's doubtful that it will.
Worst case, you can route your calls through Google Voice via hangouts on the other carriers.

Going back & looking at my Nexus 5 preorder I had a ship date of November 22nd & end up receiving it on the 7th. These ship dates might just be placeholders
I hope they change their mind and carry the 64gb in store
As most of you guys probably already know there are rumors around this phone's possibility of getting carrier support with T Mobile in the United States.
Because carrier support is kind of important in the US as most Americans buy their phones from their carrier, do you think that this is a major step for OnePlus and it will case it to be a more recognizable name in the US cell phone market... and not just some enthusiast brand?
Well, I'm just one person, but if it hits T-Mo, I'm buying it. That simple.
Same here, I'll be looking for it at my T-Mobile store!

Same
No headphone jack, no notification LED, no sale. I use both all the time. It amazes me the cheap excuses these companies make to eliminate features. The truth is that they are just trying to make more money per sale. They must think we are all as stupid as they are!
I don't have TMobile but I'm buying unlocked.
Either way. But buying from one plus direct is better
Assuming the Pixel 3 doesn't make it to T-Mobile - this will be my next phone.
IPhone Xs/Xs Max preorders aren't very strong as per reports.
A huge chunk of users might like a far cheap Android alternative in the 6T.
Plain and simple. Having it released on T-Mobile only means those who can't afford to buy it out right from OnePlus could now put it on EIP..... So I kind of doubt there will be enough of those people to generate it as "a hit"

I'm a tmo user and willl be purchasing it upon release!
You do have to remember this will be putting the phone in front of a bunch of people who never heard of OnePlus. This will open up the door for more customers that would not even know to go to OnePlus.com to buy the phone. ?* I dont know, I think it could help make the OnePlus6T much much more successful

This is xda and no one is asking the important question; will the bootloader be unlocked? No amount of available from the carrier can overcome the lack of bootloader unlock. Another thing no one is skiing is available freqs, you're giving something up for that low freq (at least one, possibly two LTE bands) it isn't available in many areas and won't be for some time.

I don't believe OnePlus will tie down the bootloader. I think it will be easily unlocked through fastboot per usial. I believe OP knows it's fan base is comprised of hardcore Android users who like to tinker and flash custom firmware and mods. Frequencies I can't chime in on as I'm not knowledgeable enough about them
The situation just the opposite, Tmo decides and oneplus will gladly provide the locked bootloader phones if they ask.
This will be a major jump for OnePlus. I for one have been looking for something unique and when I found OnePlus; I became very interested in their product. For what the Iphone X cost; you could get similar features with the OnePlus for just half the cost. OnePlus 6T will definitely turn heads in the United States. Striking a deal with T-Mobile will also open up the doors for other smart phone manufactures. If sales are good; which they will be; one could only assume that one of Oppo's other companies would want to strike a deal with a U.S. carrier.
The 6T is definitely on my radar to replace my beloved Nexus 6.
But unlocked bootloader is a must. I've walked away from upgrades to other phones due locked bootloaders.
And I am really interested to hear what the difference is between a TMo-"optimized" OnePlus6, and one bought directly from OnePlus. Exactly what optimizations are there?
So I won't be an early adopter. I'll be a fast follower once others report back.
[NG]Owner
NGOwner, that's a good question. TMo-"optimized" I assume would mean that it will have a much better chemistry with our LTE bands.
As for the success of the phone; it will also depend on the area that your in. In some areas the phone will have high sales as compared to others, that won't. It all depends how good T-Mobile's floor staff are. In some areas people don't do as much research on these smart devices as others. New York City and and various places in California will probably have the highest turnouts for sales for the OnePlus 6T. I can tell you that in my area; I will probably be able to turn some heads when I show this phone to people in public. It sounds funny; but it's true.
One question I do have is about pre orders? Since this phone is going to be released on T-Mobile; will their stores allow customers to put down pre-orders?
Saw this T-Mobile version info in Android Authority a while ago...
"According to the CNET article, OnePlus isn’t just going to sell the global variant of the OnePlus 6T in T-Mobile stores. Instead, there will be another T-Mobile-specific model that will be optimized for the carrier’s network.
And yes, that will include support for 600mHz bands, otherwise known as band 71."
Tmo was never going to sell an international oneplus in their stores. The questions are how much if any branding will it have, which Tmo apps come pre-installed, is the bootloader unlocked, which LTE freqs did we lose to get the 600 mhz goods. For most people the last question isn't all that important but I travel a great deal and it's a big one for me.
