So, I manually flashed the recent OTA. Felt like sharing what I have noticed.
For one thing, EVERYTHING is snappier. Going into recent apps is fast, home screen and apps don't take forever to load. That's a definite improvement. If it changes after running for awhile, I'll update.
Google Now's Always On voice recognition now works. I couldn't get it to work while away from the Google Now launcher before the update.
Uncertain about battery consumption with browsers yet. I'm hopeful, and the back of my tablet not being a toaster oven all the time while browsing on Xda gives me hope, but again, this is me just being hopeful.
Nothing for enabling the notification LED yet. Weird.

Thanks for the impressions. Hopefully the excessive power usage while using browser is fixed or will be soon.
I will note though that even though it shouldn't need to be used to avoid using Chrome, I think that using Tapatalk to browse XDA is a better experience. IMO, of course.

I noticed this too and im glad it wasnt only me. Certain websites cause the tablet to heat up, sometimes taking up as much as 40-50% CPU in the background until i force stop it.
Just flashed and rerooted. I hope its smooth now

That heat is coming from the processor, that just means it's just under heavy load.
Sadly, WiFi 802.1x auth still doesn't work (PEAP) and the "Sign-in to Wifi network" screen is still blank for me. (Tested with Cisco Wireless LAN Controller at work.)

I've noticed the same thing. Basically the stutter and lags have pretty much been fixed. For those wondering the home screen refresh has also been fixed.
I've been testing battery life today in combination with the chrome beta browser. Where I used to get 4/5 hours of sot with a single charge I'm now at 4.15 minutes of sot with 52% of battery left.
The new update has done wonders for the n9 and it just shows how much lollipop is still in it's infancy and still needs some updates to get everything sorted out. I'm sure it's the same for the Nexus 6.

I think he is referring to the re-draw that seems to occur randomly when returning back to the home screen. Based on the impressions I may just flash the factory image to LRX21Q if these improvements are widespread. I still haven't received the OTA and can't sideload it because my tablet is still on the pre-release BL for some reason.

Was never a problem with my nexus 9. Working flawless.
It feels faster for sure, doesn't seem to get as hot either but maybe it does.
Yes I definitely see the improvement. I was one of the first buyers on the first day. But the unit I got has defected NFC chip. I returned it and got a replacement. Latest update definitely fixed the stutters and lags. I can vow for this.

Overheating and Screen Flickering
Do you think that the overheating issue near the camera and the issue where the screen is flickering when the device is not at full brightness, can be fixed by a software update or a firmware update?

Just a heads-up, this OTA provides a VERY significant performance improvement - there was a Kernel regression that they fixed on this build regarding memory cgroups. Its very noticeable while using the tablet with this new patch.
I haven't noticed a difference yet but I didn't do s full wipe when I flashed.
Ok so I had this update back when it first came out and instantly my battery life was poor to say the least. I was using it as much as I was using it the day before and my phone was at 10% battery by the time I got home from work. But before the update my phone could last all day. So I reverted back to an older android OS and I was back to having normal battery life again. This morning when I was half asleep checking my phone I accidently accepted the update and thought I'd just roll with it for the day see what happens. And again my battery life is extremely poor so I'll be reverting back again. But its a shame because overall the update looks good.
Try a factory reset, massively improved things and I do not have any difference in battery between kitkat and lollipop.
I'm running 5.0 and it's been a good improvement for me. I usually get between 2 and 3 days on a charge. I also like the UI better than 4.4.
of course I rooted and removed lots of samsung bloat.
Due to Samsung was not able to fix the memory lag until now I would wait for 5.1.1
Gesendet von meinem SM-G900F mit Tapatalk
Personally for me battery life has been probably around the same as before when it was on KK (around 4hrs ost on average for a day). Sometimes though my phone's battery will randomly drain because of either some stuck app or the OS constantly does something weird in the background causing it to drain.
I reverted back, tried factory reset, no difference, battery life was awful and phone appeared slower
not really
the main problems can be sorted out with rooting and getting rid of apps you don't use
the other problems are google issues which are a part of android, not samsung problems
lollipop on the s5 has been no different than any device going to lollipop
the only bad samsung upgrade i can actually think of was the jump to jellybean 4.3 on the galaxy s3 international edition
people over think things
There are a number of battery draining threads but they all seem to be much older than this one which relates to an October software update.
The battery has already been pretty good and generally lasts a day but since this update it is virtually shot by about 2 in the afternoon even with little or no use.
Google searches seem to indicate an Oculus or Gear issue but as far as I am aware I have neither on my phone which is used for business not gaming.
I have now hibernated most of the apps and restarted a number of times but nothing makes any difference and means I now have to carry a large battery back with me.
Is this a problem relating to perhaps an app on my phone or are others having this issue.
It is an O2 phone using official Samsung software updates running 6.0.1
Thanks

Hey guys I just bought the Turbopower Pack mod for my phone but I still have Marshmallow and I don’t want to update to Nougat but the battery won’t work on Marshmallow. Was wondering if there was a specific app that makes it work like a new version of Moto Mod Manager or some sort of battery mod manager and if so can someone extract it and send it to me?
Easiest way to extract an app from your phone is File Manager from the play store go to apps and backup the app you’re looking for and it will back it up to a backup folder where you can email it or upload it to google drive or anywhere you want.
Thanks
hello, did you fix your problem? I have the same issue, can't use it because I'm on Nougat 7.0 and it prompt me to update the software but I can not do that because I have root so don't work the OTA updates..

Because updating to 7.1.1 will bring the notorious battery drain issue on Moto Z that negates the additional battery power.

While there is always a chance that things will go haywire when updating the OS, I'm running Nougat on my Z Force, and the battery life is incredible. Matched with the Incipio wireless battery bank, I can get up to 4 days of battery life easily. However, it's a function of maintaining a streamlined group of installed apps, and watching it closely. I have a couple of apps that I need, one is a bluetooth pet tracker, which I know burns the battery quickly. So, I just make sure when I'm done, I go to the app and kill it right away. But it's important to watch the battery usage list closely and see what's using the juice. I'm now 3 hours into my day and the main battery is at 98% and the Incipio is at 100%. By the end of the day, in Efficiency Mode, I'll probably be at 80% Main, and in the 80's% on the Incipio. However, I don't sit on FB or YT all day long, so your mileage may vary.
The point is, Nougat is supposed to be a more efficient OS than Marshmallow, all else equal. I would not reject doing an update simply because you are worried you might run into an issue. The majority of updates go fine. And, look into the battery mods - they are the greatest things ever.
Hi,
I'm having some problems with EMUI 8.0 on my BND-AL10 device.
1. Lag / Frame drops : While scrolling through Chrome new tab page, changing tabs and in Clash of Clans, I feel it is sluggish as if it is running at 20 fps. It does that everytime. Changing the resolution from FHD+ to HD+ also doesn't help. I have restarted the device multiple times.
2. Battery Life and Charging time : Battery Life has become significantly lower, it gives much lower SOT. Charging time has also increased a lot, it took around 4 hours while using the device.
Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone tried a factory reset after the update? Does factory reset solve the problem?
Thank you.

Maybe give it some time a week or 2 to optimize all apps and the system. Battery life should be better with time

Check which build number you have with your current update.
If it's AL10 8.0.0.310, then rest assured, one more update is coming with build number ending in .320.
After updating from Nougat to Oreo, I can say that Oreo has improved the performance and battery life significantly in my device, yesterday I had 7H SOT while travelling. It's the best I've got in this device.
You can try a reset coupled with clearing cache from the recovery.
Agree with the charging time, it's about 3.5 to 4 hours charging time in my phone too.

I've read in Honor Clubs that the build number I mentioned (ending with .310) has some problems. You didn't mention it earlier so I assumed you might have that build.
I've the same build number as yours right now (ending in .320) and I'm not facing any problem instead I've noticed a significant increase in performance and battery life.
I guess a reset might solve the problem.

My phone overall feels better than Nougat (I have the Mate SE), but there's a few apps that seem like the performance has degraded...My Google photos is borderline unusable due to the lag....I don't know what they did, but I hope someone fixes the issue. The Stock gallery app is much slower too (Touch sensitivity)
When going into the Google app, and clicking on Google assistant "settings" and "explore", it pops up and immediately disappears. Can't access Google assistant settings. .330 build

Google Photos and the gallery app both run smoothly for me. My issue is only with browsers (mostly Chrome) and Clash of Clans (other games run fine).
BTW apps open faster in Oreo than Nougat for me.
I have Bnd-L24 8.0.0.330 and Oreo was installed today.
Android 7 was blazing fast on my phone but with Oreo I too feel it slower than it was. I'm going to give it a couple days. It might need some time to settle.

I haven't experienced any issues so far and updated yesterday. Face unlock seems to works well. Maybe not so well in poor lighting. No touch issues no lag. Plan on doing a factory rest tomorrow and starting fresh. Will test battery life and SOT. I use YouTube vanced and PIP mode works well. No connectivity issues with wifi. Bluetooth seems to connect faster than it did on Nougat. Over all really happy with the update. Just waiting for fireware images and warranty to be up before I root. With Nova Launcher no real need for custom rom although I kind of want to try LOS 15.1, have it on my Nexus 5 and love it. But so far the Honor 7x has been a solid phone.

But Stop It!
You're tempting me on this beautiful lazy Saturday afternoon to do my full wipe and install it before I move on to a Snapdragon 636 Engine device... And I don't want to do that.. I wanted to save that thrill for the new owner !
I had speed and smoothness issues after Oreo update on my Mate SE. Factory reset has fixed all issues and phone is smoother than it has ever been. Camera boots faster, scrolling smoother, longer battery life than before. If you're having issues, factory reset, you won't regret.
Update here.
After a day or so of letting Oreo update settle down, phone is running smoothly. So no complains here.
Great work honor. Feeling happy again
