T-mobile hotspot on Verizon S5 - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am using T-mobile network sim on a Verizon S5. I have edited the APN and am able to use mobile LTE data and make calls, text etc. I'm having trouble using mobile hotspot. I figure that I need to find a way to get T-mobile hotspot app on my phone and remove/deactivate the Verizon one, but of course I have no idea how. Anyway, right now when I try to turn on hotspot, I get "mobile number not found" after it tries to come on. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hey I also just got a tmobile sim for this phone, could you do me a huge favor and explain what you did to get lte? and does it work? I'm having a problem getting lte it only goes as high as 3g for me. I keep finding different steps but they all seem to be different slightly may be you can help me out.

Also if I believe right you can do it by rooting the phone, I'm also trying to figure out the steps for that process as well, which if you are on 6.01 is so far a huge pain. Currently Downgrading the phone to root seems to be the way.

Use these settings for APN:
1.Open the Settings.
2.Select More networks.
3.Select Mobile Networks.
4.Select Access Point Names.
5.Tap the plus sign at the top right.
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: fast.tmobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: ipv6
APN Roaming: ipv4
Everything else not mentioned here, leave blank. Click the 3 dots on upper right and click save. See if you are now online. For mine it worked for a day or two and then it kept routing me to tmobile page to add a data plan (which I already have), I just had to call them and they changed something for it to work. Just a heads-up in case that happens to you. In the event that these settings don't work, try rebooting your phone and try again. Also, not sure if this is required, but if still not working, go to Mobile networks again and select Network operators and let it search, then select T-Mobile.

I was able to get the hotspot to work by using Optimal ROM deodexed version by MrHyde03. Can find it under Samsung Galaxy S5 Verizon Android development section under ROMS. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development#romList
Edit: Need to be rooted and bootloader unlocked, there are guides on here for those things that I followed. Can link them if anyone needs/can't find them.

[Q] Atrix 4G in Aus on Trelstra Next G network

Hi All,
Justy recieved my unlocked Atrix 4G, My understanding is that these guys are meant to be next G compatible.
Set it all up, all is working fine, bar the next G network, I can make and recieve calls, access the net through WiFi but no net access through the carrier.
Tried everything, any help.
Thanks in advance
did you try and set the APN?
http://ausdroid.net/apns/
im using my atrix in australia too, but im on the virgin/optus network. i can get my internet data to work.
Thanks abe1990.
I whent through all this with my previous Desire, but for the life of me, cant remember where to access the info i need from.
Just rebooted the device, notsure why i didn't try earlier, all seems to be fine now.
Thanks
Yeh was just about to add - I'm using an Atrix on Telstra no worries. Seems you were just missing the APNs
You can use the Telstra configure page to ensure you get all the APN's correct.
http://configure.telstra.com.au/telstra/index.jsp
It will download the config file to your phone - no need to manually edit.
Hey guys,
little more interesting now. I tried to send an sms, and its telling me that you need to enter a valid number. Im guessing it has something to do with country settings of some soret howver not sure?
Thanks
so i have done the updates successfully, yet still the same message, i have notices when i input the number it appears like a US number, i.e 111-111-1111. not sure if this is the issue.
Thanks for that guys. I have done the auto set up through telstra and all seems to be working. The problem now is that when sending sms i must add +61 in front of all numbers otherwise it doesn't recognise and says invalid number. Is there a setting for this, a can't seem to find anything.
Unusual, im not having a problem. Maybe try downloading MoreLocale 2 off the market, it changes all your regional settings to Australia. Add EN AU to the app. It may help..
Hey, how is your data coverage on the go with telstra, I'm on virgin here and its good if your standing under a tower (five_six mb/s) but on a train line or anywhere else it barely manages to update facebook.

I'll have to give more local a go and keep you posted. As for Data coverage with Telstra, I have now been through all the networks and I find it by far the best. Carparks, lifts, city everywhere really, a little pricer but worth it.
Hey guys I just go my Atrix today, I can't seem to get my phone to connect on the Next G network. If I do it always come up with a error everytime I turn my phone on and off, it always ask me to try and select another carrier. Plus I don't get the Telstra Newtork on the notification bar its just blank. However if I hit cancel it will let me stay on the Next G network but when I call or recieve a call for Next G numbers it crashes my phone and forces it to reboot. Just wanted to know if anyone else is having this problem or is it just me.
The only way I have worked around this is using the 3Telstra network, which kinda sucks cause I need the the Next G coverage.
Any one having issues with the mobile hotspot. At first every time i went to use it would have to change the mobile APN auth type to get it to connect.
Now after upgrading to .57 i keep getting the u need to pay at&t to use this msg. Any thoughts
Im on telstra and have had the phone 3 weeks
Got mine last week from Bell Canada, and after setting the APN's, running so sweetly on Optus HSDPA.
Mine doesn't suffer from the random muffled voice issues the AT&T phones are experiencing. The Bell Canada phone doesn't loose any APN or carrier settings on reboot.
Theoretically with the 850Mhz band support it should work on Telstra NextG, but who knows. Sounds like AT&T are severely locking down their phones. Glad I got mine from Bell (and logo free)
Hey buddy. I'm on Telstra as well. Call them on 125880 and follow the prompts until you speak to someone. They will text you an update with all the settings. I literally just did that 5 minutes ago

cheetah2k, how is your phone working on optus?
Downloads don't work for me when im on 3g, only H and 3. (i'm on tpg)
I'm guessing the phone doesn't have support for it...
Where you guys get your unlock phone from? i m interested in getting one for use in SG

No doubt it depends on the area you're in, some areas will support 900Mhz only which the Atrix doesn't have.
On the south side of Brisbane, I've yet to have a situation where it drops out of H+ for data. What APN settings are you using?
dio, i bought my phone unlocked from negrielectronics so they sent me the code.
AusDroid suggested:
TPG Mobile – Internet
Name: TPG Internet
APN: internet
Proxy: 203.139.83.152
Port: 8070
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC:
MMS Proxy:
MMS Port:
MMS Protocol:
MCC: 505
MNC: 02
APN Type: default
That didn't work for me so all i did was create one, give it a name and save it. So my APN only has the default settings, i.e MCC: 505, MNC: 02.
I do drop from H quite often in Sydney city, I then have to wait until it finds H again. Maybe there is someway so it doesn't attempt to connect to 3g?
thks... will check out the site. btw is it a at&t branded phone?

[HELP] Got AT&T sim into International S3, calling works but data doesn't work

I got an international S3 from India and went to AT&T store to get a micro sim.
Got that installed and then the phone calling works fine but data (internet) doesn't work.
They said they would have to register my phone's IMEI but it still doesn't work. They put in a new APN, and still same. They called their tech and they couldn't help. Their last suggestion was to try calling Samsung, but I had to leave to get to work.
I believe there are already people using International version with AT&T for the S3. So any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks!
Try factory resetting your phone. Other than that, make sure you have the $10/month data plan (unlimited messaging required) or the $15/month data (no messaging required). To do that you'll have to call into customer care and say you have an unlocked non-smartphone. If you go into the store to do this they'll give you the more expensive internet because they'll see you have a smartphone. If you're changing data plans it CAN take 24-48 hours for it to be effective, although it usually doesn't take that long. After that's done go into Settings, More Settings (under Wireless and Network settings), Mobile Networks, and then Access Point Names. Make sure there is an Access Point Name titled "Cingular 410". If there isn't then press Menu, and then "+ New APN". The settings should look like this:
Name: Cingular 410
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
User name: [email protected]
My Password field is auto-filled, so I don't have that. Try leaving it blank, but if that doesn't work call customer care and get that information.
Server: cingulargprs.com
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: Not set
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Enable/disable APN: Checked (this field is grayed out for me, but it is checked)
Bearer: Unspecified
This should fix it. The only thing I'm unclear on is the Password part.
Password is (all caps): CINGULAR1

Well now my SIM is completely unregistered, can't even make calls. Operator asked me to go to the store and get a new SIM Card.
So, this won't work without the switch to the non-smartphone data plan? It is going to be hard to pull off when I am in the store.

It should work just fine on the smartphone data plan, and you should be able to switch to the non smartphone data plan afterwards.

Ok, thanks. What should I tell the AT&T store people today when I go in the evening?
It feels like they did something on the account to screw it up. Would it help to suggest that they get this working on an AT&T HTC OneX and then transfer the SIM to my phone?
It could be that you have a defective SIM card. Take it one step at a time. Replace the SIM card. Make sure you have functionality with other services (such as voice and messaging). Check all the APN settings to make sure those are correct. Make sure you have a data plan for AT&T.
I'm on another carrier but I had the same problem at first, only phone call and sms working. I had to change my APN for the Data to work.

What are the APN settings you input, did you save and select it afterwards?
EDIT: Check the settings in the screenshots on the first posts of this thread, yours should match.
Thanks, I went back to the store. We got my original S2 working and this time switched to micro sim without making any IMEI/etc changes and it worked.
Anyone know what extra steps need to be taken to get the voicemail working?

Just in case You still have that problem, here it is,step by step:

-Press +(sign on right top corner) At this point You have to create a new APN
-Enter only as follows:
Name: T-Mobile US LTE
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc (This setting is to enable multimedia messages)
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN TYPE: default,supl,mms
Now press menu and then SAVE.
And the at APN's screen>select the APN You created, the phone in gonna turn off your data for a few seconds and automatically it will restore your data service. Good luck and let me know if that works for You.

I have done those steps before. apn type doesn't have a selection. not sure if typing it in is the same. speeds are inconsistent. sometimes it drops to under 10kb and other times it reaches 10Mb. sucks because the speeds fluctuations is causing YouTube videos to buffer all the time making it unwatchable. Even switch to tmobile custom rom and still same issue.

The last thing, how old is SIM card? and not only that, sometimes the SIM's go bad, just consider replacing it, and definately, the first thing You can do is trying to edit your existing APN, let me know how that goes.......Good luck.

sim card was recently purchased less than a month ago thru best buy. I bought the starter sim kit (which I think was for prepaid), but tmobile said they don't have a problem activating it. not sure what else to edit on apn. called tmobile tech support and they said only thing really matter is the fast.t-mobile.com. also tried the epc.tmobile.com but slower speeds. could it be because it's an unlocked att phone?

Temporary t-mobile solution

I know this is not the best solution but since I see people asking if this phablet works on metro pcs this is an update on the situation
I have 4 t-mobile unlimited lines and since this tablet doesn't work on tmobile because the 200mb data fiasco I wanted to get it working with unlimited data and voice even if I had to port my number to other company well metro pcs runs on the same network so I bring the tablet to a metro location the guy activated the line and I couldn't get any data he said go home and if you don't get data you don't need to pay the month fee
so I went home but I saw he put the fast-tmobile apn settings so browsing the web found the fast.metro pcs settings for the apn and after changing them bam LTE working I just went back to the store and ported my tmobile number to the metro pcs line
this is not the perfect solution but is working and is the same network just the price went up since my lines on tmobile are $50 each this is going to cost me $60 anyway here is the apn settings

Appreciate the confirmation.
The biggest concern I have regarding MetroPCS is that I have read that they are very aggressive when it comes to detecting tethering - to the point where desktop user agents within mobile browsers can trigger false positives.

if that is true and you want to tether then Metro is not for you I can care less because I just to tether internet to my tablet from my phone but now I don't need to
^^ I can prob get by without actually tethering much of the time - but it's nice to have the situational option without jumping through hoops to do it. Also, I use desktop user agents while web browsing and I also worry what might happen if Metro detects a tablet user agent. If their detection methods are the same as T-Mo's, then that probably wouldn't be an issue, but I have read they are stricter than anyone else. Do folk here have experience on Metro?
On Cricket, I at least pay a little less than $60, and they don't monitor how you use your GBs. Until things change, there is no possibility of a tethering redirect or a TOS-related throttle. And AT&T's network should provide for better coverage on occasion when traveling outside the city. So I think I'm sticking with it. We'll see.

Hey, Having a wierd issue, it looks like my radio keeps shutting off i'll have h+ and then just cell, then nothing. And nothing can connect, then i get cell and h+ and it keeps repeating... Maybe I did the APN wrong but i can't see where...
When i went into the metro store he cut down a micro sim to fit the nano slot, he said he had nano sims but he says whenever he puts aregular nano sim in an international phone, it doesnt work? Does that make sense or was he just BSing me because he didnt have any nano sims? What did they do by you?
Also that cant be my problem (I don't think) because when you take the sim out, it restarts the phone...
Any ideas?

Verizon Galaxy S5 Moved/ported over to Straight Talk - NO DATA CONNECTION **SOLVED**

So, I will start by giving information that is hopefully relevant.
I moved from Verizon to Straight Talk w/ a Straight Talk SIM card for Verizon towers. My phone is rooted, and bootloader unlocked (15 emmc).
I am currently using a custom ROM CM13 (Official Build Nightlies current ROM is from 4-27-2016)
I started Straight talk about 1 week ago, and ported my number over to ST with a sim card I bought from Amazon for Verizon Towers.
When a person starts ST they give you a free 5 day trial, then you start your monthly payments. Everything was fine during the 5 day trial, I HAD data and it was connecting at 4G/LTE speeds (Mobile Network Icon displayed "Verizon"). Then, when the trial ended and my refill card kicked in, I lost all data connection. Absolutely NO internet. In fact, the mobile network icon in the status bar (pull down menu) displayed "No Service," I then called ST customer service, they were able to get me connected but only at 3G speeds (However the mobile network Icon still displayed "No Service." I have coverage in this area I live in for 4G/LTE as I used it in this area for 2 years when I was with Verizon. The CS rep (who was a supervisor) then tried to get me connected at 4G. Long story short, they could not get me connected, in fact I lost data again. (I should mention that at this time I can still place and recieve calls as well as send and receive text messages.) The CS rep then contacted Verizon and now they are sending me a new SIM card. My question is, What is the difference between the CM13 Unofficial VS Official Build? Could this be affecting my DATA connection? The unofficial builds can be found in the Galaxy S5 Verizon Development Threads. Can't remember where I found the official builds, but is the official Cyanogenmod site. I do have the link, but I don't have enough posts to show. Could I possibly be using the wrong ROM? Or is it something on Straight Talks side? Or have I missed something? Could this problem be a symptom of using the DEV Bootloader unlock method for Samsung 15 emmc? I would appreciate some insight on this. I should be receiving my new SIM hopefully in a few days or by the beginning of next week so I can update more when that comes. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Response is very much appreciated, unfortunately for some reason these APN settings do not work, ("No Service" is displayed with no signal bars under the mobile network icon in the pull down menu from the status bar) I have tried other various APN settings from random forums, and youtube. None have worked. Maybe my SIM card is corrupted possibly? I guess I will have to wait and see when Str8 Talk sends me my new SIM card. Will update/post new info when I know more. Thanks.
funny you should say that, today I don't have data or a signal at all (at work). I'll report back if that changes at home later today. It could be a sim issue or just a straight talk issue.

Interesting, glad to know I'm not the only one in this situation. Thanks. I will be sure to update this post as well when I know more. Thanks.
so the way I finally fixed it was to reload CM13 and use the last APN to edit with my settings and not delete the others. Don't know why it mattered but I'm up and running

Yeah, tried editing the last APN as you suggested, still nothing. However I can connect to the tower (still with "No Service" indication) to receive phone calls and mms. But still no data. My new SIM card arrives in the mail 2 moro. Hopefully that is the issue.
If you're unable to edit the APN settings, I'd think that it was a faulty SIM card. Keep us notified, I'd be glad to help if possible.

Well, I am able to edit my APN settings, just the settings I have tried from XDA and other random forums/youtube/etc. just have not been working. As I have mentioned I am receiving my new SIM from Str8Talk 2moro, so hopefully a faulty SIM is the issue. Thanks for all the responses everyone, and I will keep everyone updated.
This is what worked for me. I am running daily CM13and been very happy. I edited the last APN entry and it saved fine.
Name: Verizon Internet (name whatever you want)
APN: TRACFONE.VZWENTP
MCC: 311
MNC: 480
APN Type: default,dun,supl
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol IPv4/IPv6
Bearer: Unspecified
The rest is empty or default
MMSC on mine says "not set"
SOLVED
Well received my new SIM card. Apparently the old SIM wasn't letting me connect to the towers. Old SIM card displayed "No Service" under the Mobile Network icon. I called CS they activated my new SIM. New SIM card displayed "Verizon Wireless." However I still wasn't able to get data. They then escalated the ticket. After I hung up the phone I tried these APN settings:

These worked, not sure if the previously mentioned APN settings would of worked as I did not try them with my new SIM card. It could very well be that those APN settings would of worked too. So, long story short I'm thinking the original SIM I used became corrupted somehow. Not sure how that could of happened but everything is functioning properly. I then called ST CS and had them close my ticket before they made any more changes to my account from their side. Thanks to all who replied to this thread.
Thought I would provide another update... For some reason the APN settings for TRACFONE.VZWENTP stopped working today. Called straight talk and got data working again using the VZWINTERNET apn setting. So weird. Not sure why I'm updating this thread but I thought it was important? LOL probably not, because straight talk seems to be a Sh** storm. LOL IM GOING CRAZY!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeee
APN not working for me
Hello, I had straight talk last year on my unrooted verizon samsung galaxy s5 and had no problems with the apn settings. I rooted my phone about 2 months ago using this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370. Today I decided to reactivate my straight talk service and I have tried multiple apns and none of them seem to work. Also the apn on this forum wouldn't even save on my phone. Any idea on what i should do? Maybe I need a new sim card?

Update, i finally got my data working. I had to use a new sim card as well. I am currently using the verizon CDMA sim card that came in the byop pack. Been having some issues receiving text and mms messages tho and the apn used is what is on this forum since it is compatible with the sim without making any changes.
Have GS4 using on Straight Talk VZW towers but have been unable to get 4G working 3G is doing ok. Was changing apn settings to this post and also noticed that i am unable to input manually the APN type....options being (Internet+MMS) (Internet) and (MMS)
may be a bad sim as well but just wanted to chime in and see if anyone had run into similar issues.
Thanks in advance!!

I would just try to talk to Straight Talk about it, it could be the sim card, or it could be the phone number you currently have. I just reactivated my service hoping no one else had my number but they did which had ended that person's service, which was why i was having a difficult time receiving text and mms. Now that i have a new number and used a new sim card everything works fine. I also can't manually change the Verizon apn but so far i have no need to change it.
Same issues but I have a Galaxy Sky Pro. Straight talk and verizon towers. Tried changing APN, NO luck. It will only let me change my APN, NOTHING ELSE????? It is a straight talk phone???? HELP!
