It might be triggering the double tap to wake gesture, while walking by bumping in your leg. I had the same issue on a custom rom (don't rember which exaclty), while on OOS it was fine. I think there are some roms which have a sensor block, so it doesn't false wake , or something like that.
I have the same issue and I am on latest Temasek....
I would be happy for any solution

I'm pretty sure it's the fingerprint sensor which is triggering the vibration but I haven't found a way yet to fix this issue. I'm on official CM 13 by Grarak.

Hey guys,
I have a question about what I am noticing and is bugging the heck out of me.
When I am on a call the screen goes black like it should, but once I remove the phone from my ear, the screen always came back on by itself..... Until I upgraded to Kit Kat. Now it just stays black and I have to press the power button to turn the screen on.
Is there a setting for this somewhere that I am missing?
Thanks!

Hmm, sounds like an issue with the proximity sensor. It should turn back on based on my use of the N4 from 4.2.2, 4.3, and 4.4.2.
Maybe try re-loading the OS?
Itz mostly that your proximity sensor bug !! What you can do is download a proximity sensor app from the play store like proximity on/off and test whether that works !! If it doesn't that means you have a bug in your ROM !! If u have unlocked your boot loader then flash the stock image or if u have rooted+custom recovery you can flash custom or a stock zip file
I hope it resolves your issue !! Hit the Thanks button if you find my post useful !!

Hmmm yeah I just tried a sensor app and it just says no change detected. It's weird cause I am running stock rom downloaded straight from Google. Just rooted and unlocked bootloader.....

So maybe the Proximity Sensor doesn;t work at all on this phone ... (I just got it through a warranty exchange because on my old N4 the screen broke).
I just flashed factory images again (EVERYTHING) and the Proximity Sensor still doesn't work. It shows it doesnt detect anything, even if I put my finger right over it. It does say Proximity Sensor is available though ....
so idk ...
If you go back to 4.2.2, does the proximity sensor work?
Proximity sensor is definitely broken, it's not a software issue. If you've still got warranty you should send it in.

I'm gonna flash 4.2 later and see. I just got the phone as a warranty exchange 2 days ago so if it still doesn't work I'm locking it all back up and telling tmo.

Well. It worked up until about 20 mins ago. Then randomly just stopped working. Ive rebooted, shut down, enabled and disabled the feature in settings. Fixed permissions for the heck of it. Cleaned the screen. Reset calibration, etc. Nothing seems to work. I can double tap to shut the screen off easily, and it works flawlessly, but trying double tap to wake is completely useless. Any suggestions?

Tons of lg users are experiencing this issue. Its a design flaw with a hardware component that easily breaks. Wonderful build quality -_-...right. So only option is replacing the phone. But to how soon, until the other one breaks. So its kinda like. Well. This blows. I suppose Ill install a custom kernel and enable screen wake features that way.

Okay. So after hours of tapping. Which might i add. My fingers hurt, I am now able to activate the screen. Pausing after each tap, using my finger print area to tap "not to be confused with finger tip". The screen will activate. Also note, the standard two taps works sometimes, but with four presses, i seem to get the best results. Give it a try people. I have a theory the hardware has not failed. But yet, the activation area pixel size value changed. Either due to a conflicting app install. A intermittent system glitch etc

I'm having the same issue with my G2. Knock-on/off was working fine. Had the phone in the sun for a little while (maybe 2 hours) and the knock-on has stopped working completely. Used a drawing app on my screen and found no dead pixels or strips. Knock off still works perfectly though.
This could also be an issue with your proximity sensor. If something (screen protector, finger, dust, etc.) is blocking your proximity sensor, it could be reporting to the phone that it is in a pocket, and to keep the screen off. Try to clean that area, and avoid obstructing the sensors "view". As for the leaving it in the sun, you could have damaged the sensor? You could test it by making a call real quick and see if the screen turns on when you pull the phone away from your face.

Ya i got the same problem....at home it works perfect but when i went outside in the sun i can double tap like hell and screen didnt turn on(it turns on but cant see anything because its too dark like screen brightness is lower than low)...also power button didnt work...the proxi sensor is ok...i run the test menu and it shows that everything is ok...i also sent it back to my carrier and after a week of testing got it back. They found nothing and said that my described problem is a "feature".... sometimes it turns on after tapping und pushing the power button like hell and sometimes it doesent..
Your screen turns also on with very very low brightness or it is off? When u look really really close u can see it...for example hold power button and u can hardly see the white power off/reboot popup...but i dont know where the problem can be...germany d802 version..(Sorry for my BAD english)

This^. For me I have to use my entire thumb or even palm, but it occasionally works.(still like 1/30 tries). This leads me to believe that it is software related. This one issue is killing me. I hate using the power button on the back so I only used knock on. Now that it's not working I'm hating this phone. Knock off works great and I know knock on is kernel based so maybe someone can create a kernel that fixes this issue.
This did work for me. Fixed the knock on feature on my D802.
Credit: Smith I Run (Thread from android central. Can't post link to thread)
There is a solution; (not sure about it, my friend had the same problem and he fixed it with this method)
Open dialer menu and type;
5689#*980# (Sprint)
3845#*801# (T-Mobile)
3845#*803# (AT&T Canada)
3845#*802# (International)
3845#*800# (At&T)
3845#*980# (Verizon)
And when hidden menu is showed up, go to "Settings"
and go to "Update Touch Firmware".
The touchscreen won't work until after 5 seconds, Wait for it and if touchscreen gets working, exit the menu.
Lock the phone and try knocking on the screen, It should be working

Hey all,
So went from the S3 to the S5 recently and have noticed one thing that sucks about the change.
I can no longer use swipe + pattern for the lock screen.
I have setup just pattern unlock, which should be fine, however, one thing I have noticed is, the power button is often bumped in my pocket and this makes the lock screen available...
Then, to make matters worse the new screen is soo sensitive, it starts swiping patterns all over the place in my pocket! (or trys dialing emergency numbers)...
This was never an issue with the S3 when I had swipe + pattern (or very very infrequently was).
Because you had to make it past the swipe to do anything else, and it was only once in a while that it would make it past the swipe.
Now, I could enable just swipe with the new phone, but, two things, I then have zero security and when it does unswipe, it will do who knows what with full access to the OS.
I would love to get dual lock back, is there anyway that people know of?!?
Any help would be very very appreciated!
Aaron.

Hello I wanted to know if its common this issue for galaxy s5 users... I updated my phone to android 5 lollipop and my fingerprint scanner is no longer working.... it says "an error occur with fingerprint sensor, if this message appears, restart your device"
I need some help. my S5 is the SM-G900F
Actually the same problem happened to me. After I updated to Lollipop my fingerprint scanner stopped working and giving me the same message.
Hey even I have the same problem. I hard resetted the phone and cleared cache and the same error message pops up. Right now I'm really frustrated. Why don't you guys try to clear the fingerprints cache in the application manager and see weather it works.
I hope it isn't a hardware problem with my device.
You may need to update the bootloader through odin

I have the same issue. I have "officially" updated to Lollipop 5.0 via KIES in Malaysia about 1.5 weeks ago. Next day the succes rate of the fingerprint drastically decreased and on the 2nd day fully stopped working withe the same error. I have restarted many times but the issue persisted. I could not go in the fingerprint settings. I have cleared the data of the fingerprint t app in the application manager. Then I was able to go to the fingerprint settings. I removed the old fingerprints and started to add those again. It was working fine e with the first finger. It asked me for backup password, so I added, asked to confirm the password, so I confirmed. Then I pushed the ok button and got the same error again: "An error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor. If this message appears repeatedly restart your device.". Since that clearing app data in application manager cannot help. I have already performed a factory reset and still have the issue. I have not experienced it on 4.4 Kitkat while I was using my phone for a month after i had bought. It cannot be a hardware issue. Please advice if and how it can be solved officially at home I would rather skip having my phone at being repaired by Samsung fir even weeks, but I need the fingerprint scanner working, I really like that feature. Is it a widespread common issue? Anyway I could see same error was reported on the internet last April as well so it is not a Lollipop specific issue. Any expected bugfixes?
Hey there! I'm so happy that I'm not the not one with this issue. Even I have performed a factory reset and even downgraded to 4.4 kit kat but still the problem is there.

Doesn't it inehere loosing of the warranty? I am familiar with android, I was using custom roms and rooted phones in the not far past too, but I would still prefer not to jeopardize the Samsung warranty as we have that for f.e. such situation.

I am not sure what should have bern seen there, though both the "NormalScan" and "SensorInfo" at the "FingerPrint test" shows me title "FingerPrint test" and below that "Ready", but nothing happens. Any idea?
Having the same problem but I know why. The guy I bought it from flashed the ****ing **** out of it and nothing really works anymore.
When it says ready you should swipe your finger down - if something shows up that tell you that your finger scanner is working.

Technically it could be done since we can disable it when in battery saver mode or in total silent mode,i have mi 5 earlier and there is mod for that yet its miui tho.
Im just thinking how much battery life we could save if that vibrate turned off, imagine we unlock the fingerprint sensor all the time right? And its always vibrate everytime we tap it.so technically we could save more battery life without sacrificing some important features

There is sure a way, either via some exposed module or custom rom or kernel, which either is yet not available. And the battery life is excellent on this phone, doubt that disabling vibrating will save much battery.
Hello everyone,
we finally have a way to remove this awful vibration everytime we unlock our phone through the fingerprint!
Yesterday gravitybox was released for oreo (https://www.xda-developers.com/all-in-one-xposed-module-gravitybox-android-oreo/) and comes with an option to disable this vibration, works like a charm.
I advice you tu use xposed with magisk to be systemless, or just install xposed normaly.

Yes I know they have minimised it. I read it through official forums. But, what I'm saying isn't stupid. I'm not a novice when it comes to android, app development, rooting, adb, etc.
When I'm saying it is gone, it really is gone from my phone. Not even 1% vibration is there in the sensor. Updates do affect some phones differently. It happens due to various reasons and it happens! In real!

Okay so yeah I though you were not noticing the vibration as it have been reduced a lot.
Now I see you have feelings so
I could suggest something
you should be able to make vibration stronger
Not sure about stock kernel
The idea is to make the default vibration stronger to see if you notice it with fingerprint
If the fingerprint vibration is based on a percentage of the default one there's a chance you can feel it and so you probably have a different vibrator or a light one that need to be set a little more high than default
This can also make non sense if fingerprint vibration is a separate value and also you can just have a bug and the best solution is to factory reset or wait the next ota to see if it's fixed
Hope you'll be able to find a solution
The fingerprint sensor still vibrates but its very faint.
