What protective cases are you using for the S7 Edge? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

So my wife and I just upgraded to the new S7's. I decided to get the Edge, my wife got the normal S7. It was very easy to find a nice protective case for her phone,(which she absolutely loves) but as much as I really like the bigger screen and this neat edge design, I am weary of dropping it and breaking the screen.
Ive been scouring the internet trying to find the best protective case I can find that isn't ridiculously bulky. Naturally there are many opinions of which are the best.
At the moment, Im trying the Spigen Neo-Hybrid crystal premium bumper case. It fits really nice. Looks pretty good. It has a 1.3mm bezel around the corners,(1.8mm around the camera)which is decent, but I wouldn't mind something with a bit more protection. This case does seem to cover a bit more of the edge panels than some other pics of protectors Ive seen. I used a UAG case on my S5 for nearly 2 years now and I can't even tell you how many times I dropped it and there isn't a scratch on the thing! But Im kinda tired of that same ol' style they keep sticking with, and I dont know how good their Edge case actually is. Style is a bit important to me, but quality of protection definitely takes priority. I dont own a wireless charger yet, so getting a case that supports it isnt high on my priority list.
So , what are you all using to protect your S7 edges? Ive been looking into many brands and I keep finding ones that I havent even heard of before! Ill list some of the ones Ive seen recommended in a following post.

I'm using the Spigen Tough Armor and it's fantastic. Probably dropped my phone about 4-5 times and it's done it's job. It fits really snug and isn't bulky at all. It's on amazon for 17.99. If you have any questions about that case let me know
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A7IDNWQ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_lV.ExbA6W2QXV

Cool. I've been considering trying the Tough Armor. I think I'll give that a try.

I use the tough armor as well. Dropped phone many times lol. Love it.
Edit...
Also just ordered a hybrid. Kind of a otterbox looking case, off of eBay.

Cool. My tough armor should be arriving today. Looking forward to checking it out. I want to make sure my Edge stays as protected as possible without walking around with a something the size of a retro Sony Walkman cassette player in my pocket lol.
I also got this screen protector called IllumiAquashield. I heard good things about it. Its a little tricky to apply, but I've seen in videos that it looks incredible when applied properly. Im really picky about screen protectors, but I know the Edge is a bit more fragile than the regular S7, and I can't afford to take any chances.

Just an update, got my other case yesterday, seems good, however it's massive. I'm going back to my tough armor. I'm also looking for a good screen protector.

I use the Samsung branded clear case. It's very minimal and doesn't interfere with the edge of the screens. This, and the iPhone 6S Plus I had before this, are the only phones I've ever used cases on. I never really liked the feel of the phone with cases and it takes away from the phone and the way it's meant to be. However, these last two clear cases have been nice.

I'm using the otterbox defender on my s7 edge. I also own the supcase unicorn beetle pro. Been rocking the otterbox defender for the built in screen protector and it's a bulkier case so I feel it will provide the most protection of the 2 cases.

I've been using the Cover-Ups Explorer case. It has minimal drop protection but looks very nice with the wooden back. However, today I ordered a SUPcase Unicorn Beetle Pro (what a terrible name!) because it looks like it can be installed over screen protectors without any issues.

I gotta say, the Spiegen Tough Armor is wonderful so far! My phone feels much safer than it did in the other case! I think Ill be sticking with this. Buttons are a little tougher to press vs. the Neo Hybrid Crystal, but Its worth it for the extra protection imo.

I grabbed the IllumiAquashield off of Amazon. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F5VMRCM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Im pretty picky when it comes to screen protectors. This is really great so far! Its a wet application and when done properly it looks fantastic! Can hardly tell that there is a protector on the screen. Just read the application tips that people added in the reviews if you decide to get it.
Its also case friendly. Fits perfect with my Tough Armor, and there's no sign of the edges lifting up from taking the case on and off. Im genuinely impressed. The kit comes with 2 protectors and they guarantee them for life.
Some pretty respectable points about the company aside from the warranty too. Theyre made in America and manufactured using 100% renewable energy ( just in case you care about that sorta thing).
Like I said, My application went on flawlessly, so if you have any questions, just shoot me a pm!

[Q] Any recommendations on Case/Screen Protectors for me and my wife?

My wife and I have two different needs with our incoming Nexus 4's (shipped today! )
She needs something beefy. She will drop it, and she'll drop it while out riding a horse. If at all possible, water resistant would be a huge plus. I'm currently thinking the Ionic GUARDIAN Armor Case or the Ballistic (which is unfortunately currently out of stock). She has an Otterbox now for her Galaxy Nexus and loves it, but I don't see anything for the N4 on their site. The armor would be perfect.
On the other side of things is me, I need something to prevent the occasional drop, but still fits nicely into a suit jacket without looking like I'm carrying an old school nokia. I have no idea - Ringke Fusion maybe?
Any help you all could give, and screen protectors that are friendly, which be much appreciated
I'd say for you I'd recommend the poetic borderline bumper with some bestskinsever bumper optimized skins for the front and back. I made the mistake of grabbing the xtremeguard protectors to get with the bumper and it was quite a chore getting the bumper on without the protector peeling. I absolutely love the poetic bumper, it's just as nice as the official for about a third of the cost, and comes with a 3 year warranty.
As for your wife, I dunno I haven't really dealt with heavy duty cases. Wish I could be more help there.

Thanks, I appreciate the input!
OtterBox won't be making any cases for the Nexus 4. Your best bet for a Ballistic, if they are out of stock is on Ebay. That's where I got mine, but the seller is now out of stock. Several others are selling them, so you can try one of them. I'm very happy with the case and am confident it could survive a fall if it occurred.
On screen protectors, HALO is getting pretty good reviews in the Halo HD thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2132886. They're inexpensive compared to the more well known brands, but seem to be comparable. I have a Matte version and am happy with it.
There are lots of options for slim cases, but keep in mind many only protect the sides and back, so if drop your phone and it happens to hit the top or bottom, you may crack your screen despite having a case on it.
Good luck and let us know what you decide on.
I've never used the Ballistic with a Nexus 4, but I've used it with my iPhone and HTC Sensation phone. I'd say go with the Ballistic case if you want full protection. For the screen protector, I'm still looking for a good one myself but I think the XOskin one is good.
Can't make a recommendation for your wife, however for you, I LOVE my Seidio Active case. Protects all sides + back and special protection on the corners. Only adds 2.2mm.

A ton of fantastic replies, thanks all
That seidio looks slick, I think I'm going to have to give that a shot for me!
I wanted to get the ballistic for her, but its out of stock... so I picked up the Ionic Guardian for now, and am on the list for when the ballistic is available again on Amazon. Those Halo HD protectors definitely have gotten some great reviews, so I picked up the 3 pack, I'll see how well they work for us.
Thanks again, will post an update once the phones (Tuesday maybe?) and the cases/protectors (should be in on Wednesday) are both in :good:
THe ballistic in Black/Pink is still available in case you need.
http://www.thecellguru.com/Products/77068
and the Black/Black one too: http://www.amazon.com/Ballistic-SG1098-M005-Series-Case-NEXUS/dp/B00B5SCDN8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Highly highly recommend halo screen protectors.

I have a spigen ultra crystal screen protector and I love it. Still doesn't have a single scratch on it and my case doesn't peel it at all.
The case I got it the hybrid fusion by re earth.
And for a back skin I suggest dbrand skins. I have a black carbon and it looks awesome. And my are doesn't cover it because it has a clear back.

Anyone use their phone without a screen protector?

I'm really getting sick of the rubber feel of the tpu protectors. Have a zagg on it now, and need to replace it with a new one, so I ordered a bestskinsever.
I hate the feel and the look, and I'm tempted to just use it naked and say screw it if it gets scratched. And if it gets really bad just order an insurance replacement.
What does the xda crowd think?
I don't use a screen protector, but I do use a tech21 case, which flips over the screen and covers it while in my pocket. Case takes some getting used to though.

I don't use one, I haven't used one on my iPhone 6s, S6, or Note 4 either. I'm not overly easy on my phone's but I'm concious about what I do with them, like phone and keys not in the same pocket ect. Screen's now are pretty damn resilient but if you toss it in a purse or bag with other things I'd get one.

I don't use a screen protector. I keep it in my left pocket with nothing else in the pocket.
They sell tempered glass protectors on Amazon. That would get rid of that rubber feel. I personally don't use one though. Small scratches on the screen will make the screen easier to break though. Think of it like etching glass like they do windows etc.. then they literally break it along the etch.

There's been a lot of discussion about TGSP for the GS7E, and it looks like pretty much no-one is satisfied with what is yet available for varying reasons.
There's a discussion thread in the main GS7E forum => link which people should review before buying a TGSP, in my opinion.

I've tried one for my iPhone 6s and it shattered without even dropping my phone. I know there no way the actual screen would have cracked doing the same thing. The curved ones seem to be way weaker than the flat ones.

Zagg has a tgsp now, I haven't used it but want to try it. I have a bodyguardz on right now and can't really tell. It doesn't cover the whole screen so it doesn't interfere with my speck case. The old zagg did and barely lasted a month before it started peeling up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
I haven't used one on any phone I've had for ages. Never cared for the blurry look they give the screen. I'm sure they've improved since the first couple smartphones but I've never bothered. I never put my phone in a pocket with anything else (that just seems like begging for problems regardless of having a screen protector or not), and I've never had the slightest scratch on any of them. Always use a case, but never anything that covers the screen itself. They just never come in contact with anything that could ever scratch them.
I have never used a screen protector on any phone and I have never gotten any noticeable stractches. I did get a couple minor scratches on a couple phone screens, but they were so fine that you could only see them in a reflection of a bright light when the screen was off. I did break a screen once when I sat down and the phone fell out of my pocket onto concrete, but luckily that was an HTC phone so it got replaced for free. I don't usually use a case either, but I do have one on my S7 Edge. Knock on wood.
I am using my phone naked right now with no issue. I have drop it many times, only the corner metal part is scratch, glass is perfectly fine.
I use the Zagg HD Screen Protectors. Not the tempered glass kind. You can't even tell it's there. No grainy look or feel.

Case or no case

Poll... Will you put a case on this awesome looking/feeling phone?
Yes, without one I'll lose resale value. I only keep my phones for 8-12 months and then sell them on to get something else. I want it in perfect condition. I'll probably sell next year and get the 2018 Oneplus device.
I do care about look and feel though, only got a thin Spigen case. I'll use it without sometimes, when at home.
I'm just using a skin and maybe a screen protector.
Most likely make.... Maybe a skin and only occasionally in a case.

Case. The phone is strong front and back and does not bend easily- however the corners are vunerable to breakage- spreading to other parts of the phone. Luckily, good cases can easily protect against this vulnerability.

Haven't decided between naked, a skin or ultra thin case. I have a Caudabe slim on my iPhone 7+ (https://www.caudabe.com/products/the-veil-xt-iphone-7-plus?variant=29855290116) and would love that on this. My LG G6 goes naked.
Like buying a 800$ phone and NOT protecting it? I know too many people who damaged their high end phone because of saving on the case...
I will more than likely have a dbrand skin on the back and screen protector on the front, or, no screen protector and a pocket sleeve. The slim cases are such a joke to me, more for grip than anything.. most phones that fall on the corner onto a hard surface is still going to end up with a blemish/dent , probably enough to annoy you and call insurance and request a replacement anyways.. No slim/air case protects the glass, at that point you would need a screen protector and the only way to really protect that is with a glass one, and we all know how that fiasco worked with the s7 edge and note 7...
I ordered the clear spigen ultra hybrid and plan on using it with nothing else as of yet. I'll wait until I can find a screen protector that doesn't change the feeling of the screen.
Not going with a skin right away because the color (Orchid Gray) was really the reason why I fell in love with the S8, and a skin on the back kind of ruins that for me.
Comparing the ultra hybrid to my old S6, it is literally 1mm wider than a case-less S6.
I never had a case on any of my phones and none suffered any type of physical damage. I guess it depends on the person and in general how you handle your belongings

I bought the same case, but the Black bumper version (since I got the black S8) instead of the all clear version. Got it in the mail a few days ago, and its perfect. Not thick, and feels great. I won't get a screen protector since I like my screens naked
Definitely a case. I usually have 3 or 4 different ones. One hard plastic, very thin case. These are super slim but offer the least protection. One or two different TPU cases. Again, I will go slimmer, but these will be my daily drivers so I want some corner protection. I look for TPU cases that come up a bit higher on the curved edges - the curved edges are the most vulnerable part of these edge phones plus it helps lessen accidental edge touches (although I turn off all edge features anyway). Lastly I will look for a sturdier otterbox type case. One of my businesses I am a contractor/builder and having a real sturdy (yes bulkier) case is needed in this setting. I only use a case like this while on the job site though.
I have yet to see a decent tempered screen protector for edge screens. Couldn't find one for my note 7 or S7E. I will be using a full body wrap that is actually meant for the Samsung Note 8 tablet. It is a softer, clear screen protector but since it is bigger it will wrap around the whole phone. I cut it down to length of course to fit. But since it wrap around the whole phone it stays on with any case. The ones that are made to cover the entire display right to the bottom of the curved edge alway peel. So having a full body wrap screen protector is the best option IMO.
Will protect this beauty with a few different cases...
Yep, with my clumsy-ass self, I need one or else my phone will end up in crappy condition. And if I have a good case, I can retain its resale value as well. If my mom wasn't taking my S6, I'd sell it. Gonna get a few cases, depending on where I'm gonna be going. A thinner one for daily use and a thicker one if I'm doing things where I'd need more protection, like if I go hiking, or if I wanna carry as little as possible.
I hate cases, especially on such a pretty color like the orchid grey, but I already have my spigen air hybrid on hand because my S6 too often has liked to literally jump out of my hand.

I already got my Spigen Neo Hybrid. I'll buy a Spigen slimarmor case and a clear case after I get my S8+. I will probably buy more but not right away. Envoy caseology case. And I will get a screen protector, when I find a good one or if I find a good one.

I just bought the galaxy s8. Should I get a case or a skin?

I would normally buy a case because it is safer and this phone is so damn expensive (it had been a long time since I had purchased a phone and I did not know prices were that high)... But the device is so mind-blowingly gorgeous that I'm considering a skin. I rarely drop my phone but, in the eventuality (it will happen) that I drop it, will a skin protect it? From what kind of falls? And if I end up buying one, which company should I turn to (obviously I heard of dbrand but I don't know about the alternatives)? Also if you think I should get a case, which one would you recommend that still lets me appreciate the aesthetics of the phone?
Thank your for your time.
A skin will protect it against scratches but that's about it, there's plenty of thin clear cases on ebay that will give you some protection.
I'm also wondering if I should buy a case or not.
Didn't Samsung advertise that the front screen and back screen are Gorilla Glass 5? This means they are scratch-proof yes?
The phone is absolutely gorgeous and using a case / cover makes the look a bit dull. I have been using the phone without cover for a few weeks now and thankfully, no scratches so far. I hope I can keep it the same way.
What is your idea guys?
definitely a case, im getting the tough armor myself . I already shattered the back panel :silly:

Yes Gorilla glass 5. Scratch proof? NO!!!
I like to think I was babying my phone. I had it in my pocket tried to avoid having keys in with pocket ect while I figure out case/skin situation. I am already noticing very fine scratches on the front and back. Not too bad at all, but if you look you can see them, and I do know they are there.
I am contemplating insurance for the phone because if the glass cracks that would totally blow. But I don't want a fat case because the phone is pushing the size limit for me. I will most likely go with ultra slim case and Whitestone glass protector.
Bottom line, get SOMETHING for it asap. You would think it would be tougher when it comes to simple scratches, but not so much. I've had mine since launch.
I will recommend you the case I have got. It's clear slim case from aicek https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0...=DMN9FAPAZX942JJGC4VS&dpPl=1&dpID=61itnhJDTBL
Like it a lot. Gives proper protection to the screen and edges but it's slim and s8 looks great in it.

I bought a Spigen Case Thin Fit for a S7 Edge that I had for a day. When I bought the S8 I went looking for the same case and I totally love it!
Just get the Elago Origin Case for Galaxy S8 in amazon. It's as thin as paper or phone skins (0.35mm) and you can easily remove / put it back whenever you want. It's having the protection you need but not sacrificing the design and feel of the phone which is why you've bought it in the first place.

I got a slight scratch within two days of owning it. I never put it with my keys and always in my pocket. I know many others are saying they've already received scratches so no, the screen is far from scratch resistant.
It doesn't make sense to not use a case. Glass front and back, one drop could be all it takes. In fact, one drop on concrete or a hard surface will leave damage. With a slim TPU case 99% of the time there won't be any damage in the same instance.
As far as the display, I normally use tempered screen protectors, but those don't really work with the curved edges. Better off to get some kind of wrap-around wet application protector for the display. One can use an S8 tablet wet-fit protector and cut it to fit the length of the phone wrapping it around the back on both sides, or there is one being made that actually wraps over the curved edges adhering to the back of the phone that looks good too. Going naked on the display WILL end up with scratches of some kind at some point. Really depends on how you are using your phone. But even the most careful will still accumulate some damage, that's just how it works in the real world. These devices were not built to last decades.
Both ha I got a dbrands skin which i love purely because its pretty much the equivalent of goin naked but it doesnt attract finger prints etc! I did buy a case too but i lasted a week with it lol Iam forever buying cases and after a few days i take them off! It just ruins how the phone feels in hand and for me it almost makes using it less enjoyable! Currently using just a skin which i probably isnt recommended but personally iam pretty careful with my phones and have yet to ever break a screen (touch wood)
I got a case and a screen protector yesterday. I grabbed a cheap case by Lohasic while waiting on the Samsung promotion with the free case, sd card, and netflix subscription. Unfortunately the case does push the screen protector off the sides even though the screen protector was apparently"case friendly." It is hard to decide to put a case on it because it looks so good. No case I know of doesn't ruin the look of the phone.
I too put the phone in a case now. A very very thin case so that it won't be noticeable and still displays the best looks of the phone. Phew. Thanks guys.
I had a skin and a glass protector on my first S8+ and the front glass shattered under the protector on a 2 foot drop onto tile floor.
My second S8+ had a Spigen Neo Hybrid, and dropped on 1 drop onto gravel.
Baby those phones people.

Recommendation for case & display protection

Hey guys,
I am looking for the best display protection film for my S10+.
I don't think it should cover the selfie cameras because of quality loss. Also it should be compatible with a case.
There are always so many of them and it takes hours to compare the reviews on amazon to find the best one.
If you know any good cases I would be very thankful for sharing. I need a thin and simple one.

I don't know in what universe your case is slim and simple Look to the attachment; that is whats simple and slim. Yours is more like surviving a worlwar
The problem with tempered glass covers for rounded phone displays is always that the glass doesn't fit 100% to the screen so they put 2 lines of glue on it instead of using adhesion & cohesion like the films do.
Don't get me wrong, I like glass more than films but there are no good glasses for phones with rounded edges.
But thank you very much for your help
For screen protecter i use Alien Surfaceâ„¢

It would be great to know what Samsung puts on it. The OEM screen protector works well. The reviews on Amazon for every one of the protectors are awful. The IQ Shield has the best reviews of the bunch, but I am hesitant based on the negative ones.
I figure I'll use the OEM one until it is too scratched and then live dangerously with it naked.
Regarding thin cases - I've liked the Spigen Thin Fit - but it breaks easily. The Spigen Rugged Armor is a bit thicker but much more durable. For the s10, I am using a UAG - but it feels more like a tank - which strangely enough I am liking. Not too bulky and it gives a good grip.
Try Whitestone Dome Glass.. I heard its good.
I'm using my S10+ without any case and screen protector just like my old iphone x and s8..
DO you use them on the original screen protector?
