For some reason, my Gmail does not sync or push when I am on Wifi (all Roms I have tried so far)
Is this normal? Sync is fine when on 3g
go into settings>applications, find gmail and clear app data. that might help.
I didn't quite cover the issue...I can sync, but push doesn't seem to work right. Has been a problem on almost every version of gmail

is it doing the thing where you have the "3 unread" at the top of your app, but they don't show up as readable, or what?
are you rooted? backup, do a factory reset and set up gmail and see if the issue persists. if it does, then restore and try something else, if it fixes it, then just start over from scratch.
that's strange that gmail doesn't work right on wifi. it works fine for me. i'm thinking its either something with your profile, or your device specifically.
did you try clearing app data like i said in my last post?
This has been a problem with every rom I have tried - I am rooted. Never had this problem on my Droid. Push works fine on 3g, but does not work on WiFi unless I do a manual sync. Very strange. I have tried clearing the data, cache, and everything inbetween. I don't think it is a phone issue since all of my other data works fine on WiFi. Tried 2.2, 2.2.1, and even reverted back to 2.1, all have the problem. My wifi is set to never sleep, so that is not it. Also, I don't have any data settings turned off. Guess that Gmail just does not like WiFi
Been on WiFi all evening with no issues. The fact that it happens on multiple phones with multiple roms makes me think its something wrong with your gmail profile or something like that.
I'd say call VZW but they're gonna want you on an approved OS, so prolly wanna have that OTA froyo Rom handy before you call.

Looks like this is a problem for others as well...

I am going to see if the stock email program also suffers from this
Finally...fixed it
I wiped data and made a new gmail profile. Now my main profile is another gmail account. Then I added my normal gmail. All syncing properly. I spent about 2 hours combing through my gmail profiles on the computer and don't see anything. Oh well, working now

I've had a problem with pushing over institutional wifis, like guest wifis in hospitals and the like. Otherwise its been fine.

There is definately an issue with the institutional wifi...today I used wifi on the guest account at work and although my phone showed constant connection, I was able to see the phone get dropped continuously. It seems like these types of networks drop connections that are dormant for a short period of time

I'm living on WiFi only at my hotel since weds, its an institution access, so you have to refresh the connection about every 24 hours via a redirect to a confirmation page. No issues with any of my data, especially gmail. But good luck sending/receiving texts! There is literally no service in my room, and in the lobby I get 1X with no bars. It's brutal

I have a tmobile Samsung Galaxy s4. It is not rooted. I have it updated to the latest update.
Whenever I keep the phone on wifi and the screen is off, I don't receive a notification if I get an email, snapchat, whatsapp message, groupme message, or anything. So pretty much, it seems that after I put the phone down, it isn't syncing any of the applications. This happens only on Wifi. I've messed with my router but there was nothing i could do to fix it. I have a linksys router.
This is a big problem for me because I don't want to use up all the data on my phone by turning off the wifi.
The "Keep wifi on during sleep" is on always and has been like that forever. Does anyone else have this issue or know what to do? Thanks in advance.
Since my MM update, I have been having issues when connected to Wifi, either at work or at home. My Gmails are coming in delayed and sometimes not at all, and mainly when the device is asleep. I have checked all settings, nothing has changed. I have also made sure I forgot the net work and then set it back up, I have also done a FDR, still having the same issue. As soon as I switch over to Data from my mobile carrier, and do not have any issues. I have also made sure IPV6 is disable in my Router's as I read that somewhere.
Any suggestions, this is driving me crazy.
Looks like I'm not the only one having this issue, seems to be widespread

Hi,
Wondering if anyone else has seen this and found a reliable cure. I use K-9 as my email client for several IMAP accounts. I've used it on past phones without issue, but noticed on my V20 I'll randomly see "Sync Disabled" on my K-9 home screen. Although I can still send emails and poll for new emails when that's displayed, push notifications don't arrive.
I've tried changing K-9's Background Sync option to 'Always' to see if that helps - but same issue.
The issue occurs both when I'm on Wifi and 3g/4g. I'm not sure of the exact circumstances, but it's pretty frequent. Usually if I lose and regain mobile signal, or switch from wifi to mobile data (or vice-versa) that resolves the issue for a while.
Signal Messenger receives new messages instantly, so don't think it's a general background sync issue - however K-9 has been completely reliable up until now so would be surprised if it's purely a software issue.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? I updated my router with modern WMM and such. Now when I'm connected to my home wifi my phone decides to sleep the wifi when I turn off my screen.
This prevents whatsapp web working as intended. Also when downloading files and turning screen off the downloads just stop due to the lack of internet connection. I know it polls the wifi every minute or so, but it is not optimal behaviour in any way.
Mostly it's annoying when using web interfaces with apps, i.e. whatsapp web. I want my messages to be sent immediately (like before with my old router) and not when my phone decides that now it might be a good time to check if anything needs internet. This also delays receiving of messages of any messaging services that uses internet.
I have given whatsapp limitless data and excluded it from battery saving. So that does not help.
