Does anyone know if layers can work on the stock firmware on the s7 edge like it did for the lgg4? Also I got exposed working, and fixed the boot loop after flashing engboot. No lag either!

Also, I have the apn mod for the hotspot to work.(working great btw)....will that apn trick still work or would I have to install a for root app for hotspot?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

You can disabled the boot loop and heating up by factory resetting your phone after flashing the engboot, once this is done do the entire initial setup but when prompt with hands free activation hold the back button. Go to the play store and download package Disabler Samsung. Now go to settings and activate device, when finished do not hit "done" instead hit the home button. Go to package Disabler and search DM services, disable it and wala! Enjoy!

So I have the 930T ,I flashed the Engboot then phone restarted. After the start up process I went to push supersu via adb, it went through the the whole process and success. The phone rebooted automatically and after it booted I could see the supersu app. Root checker says root not installed correctly and also titanium back up won't detect root. I have downloaded and pushed the files a total of 6 times. I have also wiped cache before the last push, still no root. Any ideas?
Did you try to reflash su

Yes 7 times now.this last time I reflashed the Engboot and did the whole process. Same result.

It's definitely tricky but this works. I've done it to mine 3 times to get everything right. I'm on pd8 by the way.
Here is how I got everything working smooth.
Make sure you have the modified Odin from the original AT&T thread.
Take out the Sim and memory card if you have one. These have caused issues in the past.
Factory reset in recovery. Then boot into download mode. Flash via Odin the 930t pd8 firmware or whatever version you have (from sammobile, 2hr download with a free account) make sure. To use the "Home" csc file. Again we are flashing all the fields.
Now your stock.
Boot up and setup your phone. Still no Sim or memory card. Install kernel auditor, titanium back up and busy box.
Turn on adb mode via developer mode.
ADB reboot download mode.
Flash everything again but this time using " Samsung_G930x_QC_Rooted_boot.zip" in the AP field in Odin.
It will reboot, then once abd is able to see your device. Run the root.bat.
It will reboot after a time.
Once it's back. Install busybox to system/bin, it won't install to xbin.
Use kernel auditor to change cpu governor to "ondemand".
Use titanium back up to freeze "security log agent"
You should be golden.

It's fairly easy, just download flashfire to your device and go to. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960 and click the download OK your phones browser. The website is for the international variant using exonos but it works the same.

How is the lag? Did you notice any performance loss? I followed the steps in the original thread and had to factory reset after being stuck on the Tmo screen (Huge over site on Tmo to add a white splash screen on an AMOLED screen...). After I flashed SU, superSU would lag like crazy. It would take 2 mins for root requests to popup. I never felt so happy to odin back to stock after that. I didnt think of flashing all odin files and just replacing the AP slot. Maybe that will make a difference?

I had the same problem all is good now just let your phone rest so it can learn battery usage and download no frills cpu or any goody kernel tweaker and change govn. To interactive this will help lag. You just have to let phone sit it will fix itself.

First off I apologize if this is in the wrong section or has been asked before, I couldn't really find the answer I'm looking for.
So I have my S4 (4.2.2 if it matters) rooted and TWRP recovery loaded on it. I was getting the ATT update message and I kept hitting ignore or remind me latter, however I noticed last night it starts to try to install and restart without giving me an option to cancel it. I quickly remove the battery to prevent my phone from updating.
My question is, how do I stop this update when I turn my phone back on? I don't want it to update the firmware and lock my boot loader. Or am I making a big deal over nothing?
Thanks in advance

Just one more think, I just want to make sure that when I turn my phone back on that the update won't finish installing (it was in the process of installing when I shut it off).
Thanks again for all the help.
I'm assuming that u have MDB/MDL firmware. ......Take your Att sim card out. ... u need to root your phone. ... install Titanium back up and go to Att software update app ....back up first just incase u need it to return to att and then uninstall it...... that's should stop it from OTA update
SWYPED_FROM_S4_MF3_REDVENOM
Yep, you're going to want to root and then rename or freeze those files, you found in the Google search. That will stop the update
Taking just the SIM out at this point won't help. Only way to completely stop it now since it was installing is to Odin back to MDL and start the root process.

So not to keep asking the same question, when the sim card is out of the phone, will that prevent the update from installing?
Also to clarify, I've already rooted my phone and installed TWRP recovery. Again at this point I just want to make sure that when I turn my phone on the update isn't going to automatically finish installing before I can block the app/files
Again, thanks so much for the help, can't wait to get a rom installed and start enjoying the awesomeness
I'd follow graydiggy suggestion. Don't turn it on except to go into download mode. Flash the mdl firmware, then root again and freeze the update apps or install a custom Rom
I could be wrong but I believe the update won't apply since the stock recovery has been replaced with a custom recovery . If I am wrong Im sure somone will come in and correct this statement .

Won't matter
If you have a custom recovery, the update should fail the install with an error 7. However, I would still completely start from scratch by using Odin to get a clean slate without an update. You could actually use Kies and do the emergency restore. Whatever you do, do not boot the phone into the OS until it has been completely wiped by either Odin or Kies. Only download mode.

boot into recovery and in twrp manually go erase the update.zip from cache/fota. Then wipe cache before rebooting. That, or flash the PIT file. I posted directions on how to extract the stock signed PIT file but you'll probably need someone to extract one for you since you dont want to boot to Android yet.

I have compiled all my notes at: freehelpinghands.wordpress DOT com/2013/12/15/best-way-to-unlock-root-a-new-phone/
and the answer to my question above will likely be answered by the time this is being read.
Hi all, thank you for reading this. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that has this problem;
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H and I've tried countless times to root it. It rooted halfway. How? Well, being a n00b in a developer's forum is really tough but I'll try to exemplify:
So I succesfully rooted my phone via Philz CWM to later install Chainfire's Root App from Google Play store. But I can't run "Game Killer" without it posting "Root access needed" when I THOUGHT I rooted my phone. So I downloaded Root Checker Pro and then I kinda understood why.
Has this happened to anyone before? I've never had this rooting problem (used to own a Galaxy S4 before this one and a Samsung S2 before that one)..
PLEASE HELP!
Oh, and I can't use CF-Auto-Root method because it get's stuck at CACHE and I can't make it past there (EVEN if I change the Odin versions). My guess is that it's got something to do with Philz being there. I dunno..
HOW CAN I COMPLETELY ROOT MY BELOVED S5 G900H?
Thank you in advance!
Bump?

Yes and yes. Incomplete roots are a common issue and happen to many people. It can happen because you missed a step, because the rooting method is out of date or perhaps some app is interfering. You simply need to root again.
It would probably suffice to update SuperSU and update or install busybox. But if you prefer, uninstall SuperSU, then run your root again. If you run into difficulties, then look for advice on how to disable Knox, use one of the newer rooting methods or flash a stock firmware image and start from scratch.

2 ways:
1) This has been noted before. If you get stuck on the cache during the flash process, you should remove battery + sim + sd and re insert them and flash again.
2) Not being able to flash with Philz usually is caused because of the recovery version. Since you have G900H it could very be that problem, so if you didn't try my advice from above, I would try to use a different recovery (CWM / TWRP).
Thank you YMatrix for taking the time to respond. I will reply as soon as I'm able to do so and post a reply with the steps for the successful alternatives.

I've tried almost every combination/steps.. It gets rooted but it doesn't root the core.. I don't know how to put it in words. N00b disadvantages..

Well, I'm not sure either. One very strange thing as well is that in Terminal Emulator, when I type "whoami" it says unknown.
I still can't access full root.
I do, however, have SuperSU installed and working properly but it's like a fake root or something..

Well RBucci, i'm with the exact same problem. thought semi-root, happenned to me before, with the S4 and S3, i ve simply fixed it, re rooting with another version of CF-AUTOROOT.
But now, there's no other version of it, for S5. i have the same varian (G900H) as you. CF-ROOT get stuck after writing Cache.img, and throwing "Write error".
please, let me know if you find a work around for it, i'll be doing the same.

put a sim card in the phone, (never put a simcard in the phone before), enter developers options, marked USB debbuging, unmarked verify potencial risky apps pushed by ADB (sorry if the translation isnt exact i have the phone in spanish) is right below USB Debuggin Option.
-turn off phone
-Remove SIMCARD
-Enter Download mode
-Flash via Odin 3.09 Chainfire CF-AUTOROOT for G900H
-and enjoy.
try it mate. it worked for me

But, what about Towelroot?

CF-Root will trip the Knox to 0x01!
Be the way if the knox is trip to 0x01
can I still go back to rom stock from samsung and still get OTA?
what about if i chace to ASOP non-stock rom can I still get back and keep the OTA?
The knox dons't block me to get OTA or flash back rom stock?
Thank you!
My S5 is rooted on 4.4.4 and I've been having lots of issues.
1. Phone would restart randomly.
2. Random apps would close.
3. If I have an app open (for example, the Camera), it would stop.
4. Phone would randomly freeze and would restart or stay frozen. I'd then have to pull the battery.
Is anybody else having these issues and/or know how to fix this? It's getting really annoying and I obviously can't use my phone properly. This is why I sometimes think about just getting a bloody iphone. ha!
We need more info. Did you freeze/uninstall anything? Does it have SafeStrap installed? Custom rom? Xposed modules? Or anything else?
I did "turn off" some apps in System > Applications and I also uninstalled some bloatware apps I didn't want. I just installed SafeStrap, so the issue was occurring way before I installed that. I have no roms nor Xposed modules.
So...take us through the steps you took to update and root.
Well, I first unrooted the phone and then updated to 4.4.4 through Kies because it would not let me update directly from the phone. The issues that I mentioned above started occurring after the update. Anyway, I then used the rooting method in one of the xda posts and started from Step 3.

Let me 2nd Misterxtc' s suggestion. I was just about to suggest you Odin back to stock and start over. This time, once you are rooted and have ss installed go and make a backup. Now if you bone it up deleting stuff you can start over on a good install. Little extra work up front saves a ton down the road.
So, I un-rooted my phone using ODIN back to 4.4.4 and I did a factory reset and cleared cache. I'm restoring my apps now and some of them are still stopping - "Unfortunately Google Play (or whatever other app) has stopped." Grrr! -----So the un-rooting process did not fix my issues. =(

That happens immediately after restoring apps. Have you rebooted the phone and still have the issue? have you cleared cache and dalvik since restoring?
I did everything. I did factory reset from the Recovery. I cleared cache. I even did factory reset after the phone started up and nothing. I noticed that when I was going through Setup the last time, random system or google apps were stopping. Right now, my phone isn't connected to my google acct and I didn't install any apps, except for this one app called 'App Info' and it shows my Knox Warranty Void is 0x0, so I'm definitely taking it to Verizon this afternoon. I am having similar issues to OP. I followed your guide to a T. Here is what problems I had. After installing and running tr.apk it said device not suppored. It just sits on the Samsung Galaxy S5 (powered by android) boot screen and I cannot complete step 8. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I am having similar issues to OP. I followed your guide to a T. Here is what problems I had. After installing and running tr.apk it said device not suppored. I then went to TR website and got v3 and 'made it rain', it said it was okay. After this step 7: Shutdown and reboot once more into download mode and flash NI2_stock_kernel.tar.md5 with Odin in the AP slot.
It just sits on the Samsung Galaxy S5 (powered by android) boot screen and I cannot complete step 8. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

It should be fine if you used the ni2 file from the root.zip file. It works for me as well as others but I've seen issues with new phones. I'm not sure why.

Good idea. I will re download and double check MD5. Here is a SS of Odin. Imgur url is this (wont let me post because noob) --> /tvRayDC.jpg
I'm basically trying to narrow down whether the rebooting is hardware or software related. I might just return to stock and get a refurb unit if I can't figure it out. It seems like the restarting occurs intermittently when the phone trys to use the signal. I had one random reboot when i was in Safestrap and am also seeing reboots in 4.4.2 NCG stock. So maybe modem related? Maybe I can try another Kernel?

You canalways download the NI2 full tar from here and then follow the Root NI2 directions. If towelroot doesn't work try this. I always factory reset the phone from the settings menu before I flash the tar.

Flash this file through recovery: xposed-v80.0-sdk23-arm64-custom-build-by-wanam-20160211.zip, wipe just cache and dalvik, reboot system and install xposedinstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk as a normal apk. Before doing anythink please put also this Uninstaller in your SD card in case something went wrong you could flash it through recovery to recover normal boot: xposed-uninstaller-20160211.zip

Did you have the xposed-uninstaller in your external or internal sd card? If so, flash it to recover your boot and exit from bootloop.

For sure its a "custom build" by wanam just for Samsung devices. There are others xposed files for others that wont work anymore on Samsungs devices.

Well that worked But now im having the same problem as I was having with my sg6, certain apps stop working, here an example of the Horizon Go app (dutch live tv streamer) which gives classnotfoundexceptions: https://www.dropbox.com/s/43if3chvf3sdbga/Screenshot_20160329-072524.png?dl=0
Yea so here's a tip. Install LiveBoot. Enable the app. Install xposed and tell me what you see when you get stuck at the Samsung screen.
These 3 errors occur for me:
Rpmb Daemon failed to start
SveClient device start fail
Zygote fails to connect.
I'm using the SM-G935W8
anyone have gotten any problem with snapchat? i dont mean the login part.. i mean the taking photo in snapchat.. when i had xposed installed everytime i took a photo on snapchat i get forceclose.. anyone got this problem too?
What type of device is s7 edge is it x68 or arm 68 etc

Where are the download pages(Links) for the Roms? Where are the instructions? I wish XDA would go back to the way they were a couple 2-3 years ago. This site was great back then, now I can't find anything. When I do find something there is nothing with it or it is wrong. Please, someone help me to find the page that has the Custom Roms and Install Instructions...
I am on OF1, Rooted & Unlocked..... If that helps. I have Flashfire, TB (Which doesn't work right anymore.), Flashify, SuperSU, BusyBox, TWRP Manager on now. I have never worked with TWRP Manager nor Flashify so I am a newby to them.
Thanks.

What's wrong with Titanium Backup? Is it giving you the insufficient storage notification?
TB
Yes it is. TB stops and gives me the insufficient space notification.
I'd also like to know how to get a custom Rom on now. I'm OF1, Rooted, Unlocked, TWRP(Which I don't know how to use), Flashify, FlashFire, SuperSU, BusyBox. I have tried Jasmine 6.1 about 8 times and it does not work on my phone. My phone is a Verizon Retail SM-N900V Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Yea I got TB to work by going into the settings in SuperSu and unchecking mount namespace separation. Im trying to figure out how to get a custom ROM on my phone as well. I got Jasmine to work but I want to try one of the new ones. At least get a new kernel flashed for Jasmine. Did you try and make a backup in TWRP yet?

I may be wrong, but I think the links to most of the ROMS you have seen have been deleted because they are not fully working as of yet.

I've tried that video about 8 times to no avail. As for the backup on TWRP, no I haven't. I'm not familiar with TWRP so I'm leery as to using it.

I never got it to work either. I had to Odin back to stock unrooted and re-root. Then unlock, all over.

I'm sorry man. Once you reboot into recovery TWRP will give you options. The backup process is fairly easy but could be confusing when it's your first time. I'll try and find an explanation video for you and let me find the process I used to get Jasmine to work. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I'll get back to you.

I think I might know what it was. When I flashed Jasmine ROM I hadn't unlocked the bootloader yet. And I just flashed it with flash fire. There was no computer involved after I installed of1 update and rooted the phone. Make a backup and try it again. Make sure you don't have both flash fire and TWRP installed. And that you have super su instead of kingroot.
TWRP
I've got FlashFire and TWRP both on and it seems to be fine. I went into recovery and did a backup with TWRP and it seems fine. I would just like to get a Custom Rom to work on here now. I use to run them all of the time before 4.4.3 came out. I finally got the TB back working and saving but it takes a very long time to run now.

Don't use that video its for a method that was used before the unlocked bootloader....
You obviously have never owned a d1 or anything else you could flash a ROM and such with... There is a tread called working vzw ROMs. You really need to figure out how to use twrp recovery not those apps you have. If you installed recovery use it. If not install flashify and choose the recovery for n900 4.4its the top one... Its all in a tread do the work and look.
