Got my G1 STOLEN!!

Damn, I just got my G1 stolen today... What should I do? I am calling tmobile right now but is there anything else I can do?

There are a few apps on the market you should have installed. Sim checker, being one of them. Since you didn't think ahead, best thing to do is call tmovile, get your phone shut off and file a claim (hopefully you were smart enough to get insurance). How did this happen anyways?
P.S. There is very very little chance you'll ever see your G1 again, so hopefully you got insurance.
Here's an idea though. Post a sob story on Craigslist about how you need your phone to work, your going to lose your job because they can't contact you (say you work on the road doing sales or something) and maybe someone will see it and feel bad and donate a new phone. My mom bought a sick camcorder from ebay and someone stole it from her hallway after ups dropped it off. She posted it on Craigslist and someone donated a new one to her. try that out maybe? Next time remember to install 2 apps, ones sim checker which will text/email you when a different sim other than your is inserted, and there is another that you can text the phone a special keyword (example: I LOVE YOU) and it will text the location along with a link to google maps.

The idea is clever, but to lie and receive something from someone who gave it to you out of their own good will thinking they are helping, in my opinion is just as bad as stealing. As for your phone, chances are, you won't see it again. If you bought insurance, your G1 can be replaced for around 100 or so dollars from T-Mobile.

Well really, his phone was stolen, they are helping, and everyone to some extent needs their phone for work. Right? lol. I am not saying be dishonest, but make a sob story, know what I mean?

If you check your gmail, you will see the last ip address to access your phone. you can then report it to the police and the local telephone people will be able to roughly guage where it could be. If you are using google latitude, it will tell you straight away.

How...? I don't get the "last IP address to access your phone" thing. And where do you find this information? I logged onto Gmail and don't see this.

I believe he meant access FROM phone. Gmail lists history of its access, with details showing Browser or Mobile. I don't know how IP address works with the 3G/Edge network though.

What app is that when you text your phone it'll text you the location?

A lot of them do. LocService, SimChecker and GPSTracker. However, most of the time when your phone gets stolen, they would obviously take out your SIM card. In that case, you can't really text it any more. So go with SimChecker, when the SIM is swapped out, it will automatically text another phone that you specify and email you too with its location.

Anti-Theft software for TP2

Hey guys,
This is my first ever thread on the XDA forum.
After saving up for a long long long time, I am now a proud owner of a TP2. And now, I am constantly worried about it getting stolen(my past two phones were stolen).
I know this topic has been discussed for other phones before. But is anyone using a good anti-theft software on their TP2? Are any of the softwares recommended for other phones in this forum giving any errors with TP2?
I dun mind spending a bit on it. I read about the Ultimate Theft Alert v3.5 and the Sprite Terminator. The sprite guys are having some promotion for HTC owners. Does that mean it is highly recommended for HTC devices?
I am not a developer and is pretty dumb about flashing roms and all that (even though I cant wait to learn more. Expecting all your help and co-operation). So please provide me a simple solution for this.

I do not think that will be easy that an anti-thief fully protect your investiment:
Normally first think every thief does is shutdown the equipment and remove the SIM Card. After that he could simply Hard Reset the equipment, returning the equipment itself to factory specs, so the anti-thief software is deleted. He can also change the IMEI in a relatively simple way.
Main tactics:
Never show your equipment if you are in a relatively empty street, train station, etc;
Always use the equipment with a firmly grip on it and always watching the surroudings;
This is simple common sense...
I know, that is going a little paranoic but some care is always a good thing.

thanks for the reply. for some reason, I didn't think of the possibility of the thief doing a hard reset.
But, I feel it is still worth investing on a software like Ultimate Theft Alert coz there is still a chance that the thief might not do a hard reset. So can you recommend a good software among the popular ones that works for TP2? I forgot to mention that I am from Singapore. I dunno whether my location makes any difference?
I still have not played with my phone a lot. But i believe TP2 has GPS? So doesnt that mean some of these softwares can give me the coordinates of my phone? Will my location matter for this feature?

As I told, first thing that any thief does is shutdown the phone and trow away the sim card. With the phone shutdown, no gps coordinates or remote lock. And believe in me, the ones that steal know very well to cover the tracks, so for sure they know how to hard reset a phone (I'm still looking for my Asus P535. For sure is now hardreseted and IMEI diferent, and also had GPS. It was stealed 1 year ago).

Install this. It's FREE. If a theif changes the sim card, you will automatically recieve an SMS to the numbers you have configured in the software. You will recieve his phone number + IMEI details. Configure your e-mail address and atleast 2 different phone numbers in the software so once you recieve the theifs new phone number or if he has not changed the sim card then you can send a special text message (read software tutorial) to you sim card or theifs new sim card which will activate the gps and text the co-ordinates to the nominated phone numbers you would have configured and an e-mail with link to google maps showing exactly where the phone is.
This thing works 100%. My house was under google maps with the right house and street address. I was stunned.
Also a thief is not literate enough to jump aboard XDA forum and search "How to hard reset a Touch Pro 2". They don't have time and most don't even know that technology like this exists.
Also once the Hard SPL comes out for TP2 and Cooked roms start releasing, you can either cook your own ROM with this software pre-installed with the right settings or request someone to cook a ROM for you with the right e-mail and phone number settings you want so even if a theif does a hard reset, software will still be installed again with those settings.
And to uninstall this software, theif needs to enter the password which you need to configure. I recommend you go through the tutorial.
oh and IMPORTANT. Install this to device memory because if he takes out your memory card and it's installed on the memory card then everything will be useless.

It works 100%. I have tried changing sim card and I got the text of the new card's phone number on my 2 nominated numbers straight away. GPS Co-ordinates were both e-mailed and texted to my nominated number and e-mail address.
In order for e-mail to work you need to have an e-mail account configured on your phone already like hotmail or gmail.
Ultimate theft alert is paid. This is free since made by xda devs.

I use smartphonetracker, veryeasy to use and very reliable, works for a year now and just fine

hey... i agree with black phoenix completely... u never know these guys are too quick...
not unless the theif is some corporate theif, who wants ur data... i don't think he will leave ur phone without a hard-reset...
but for the first 10-20 minutes before he figures out how to do it.. i think a better solution than Ultimate Theft Alert is Maspware's Guardmobile

Finnaly someone that supports me. I was thinking that I were the only one with the idea that most think that are strange. Looks like lot of people in this forum still believe in Santa's or in the Easter Bunny.
If it was a hardware solution, directly solded in the Phone PCB, OK, that way I may garantee that you can return your phone, because his hard to bypass (if done correctly), but even those ways are bypassable sooner or later.

I think they would do it to be honest, it would take ages to delete all of the contacts etc. A google for "reset touch pro 2" is all it takes.
However, once we have HardSPL we'll be able to burn these utilities into the ROM so that they survive a hard-reset. Thief has to be aware of this and know how to re-flash. That raises the bar considerably.

lol, some people are just giving waay too much credit to theifs here. if they were literate and could afford an internet conncection to jump on google, they will not be theifs in the first place. all they care about is booze and drugs...

you must have some really nice thieves in Europe. i've seen lots of things stolen for no other reason then to just steal something.

I recently had my phone (xperia) stolen. I had only recently flashed a new rom so it had wiped my anti-theft software. I bloody wish I had put it back on now.
Saying that I was abroad with no-data running, but at least I may have got a phone number by text. Then again the number to text to was my girlfreinds phone which was also taken. Oh well!
It is very likely a thief will reset the phone ASAP, but some thieves will be opportunists who see something shiny and expensive looking to steal and wont be that technologically savvy.
In that case the software may well pay off (ignoring my senerio above).

We all know the issues (time lag etc.) with the GPS on the TP2. Why a thief would put a new simcard in the phone outside. Probably he/ or she will be inside, where no GPS signal is available.

What about "W.I.M.P" (where is my phone) ?

Microsoft my Phone tracking

I've lost my phone, haven't blocked it yet or anything in the hope that Microsoft my Phones locate service will help me out. When i lost it was low on Juice, by now it would have died so the locate service isn't working... Im hoping that someone has found it, charges it, sticks their sim card in it and it will be locatable...
Is this the case? The phone will broadcast the IMEI number regardless of what sim is in it yeah? If microsoft my phone isn't finding it, and i'm phoning it several times a day and its saying 'It has not been possible to connect your call, please try again later', im hoping that its dead? If someone was actively using it with a different sim card I would be able to track it right?
I've pretty much written it off now, assuming i'll never find it, i've come to terms with that, but there's always that little bit of hope... Can anyone help please?

Well, first: I have never tried that or spoke to a mobile rep about that, but since your phone has a specific adress and its like a vin number, i believe is the IMEI #. And GPS and everything are still in the phone. They can`t delete them or change them. Thus i believe its possible that if you call a Rep and tell them to locate it or something like that, are they supposed to help you? I've heard that iphones have that fiture, that if you loose your phone, they can track it.
That's just my 2 cents. I hope I gave you some hope... Good look mate!

Not good news I'm afraid mate. I've seen quite a few people on here say that the premium MyPhone services don't work.
If someone were to charge it and put a new SIM in it then when they switched it on it would be just like it was when you last had it, so MyPhone would run as often as you had it set to. (I don't know if the tracking is updated upon request or when it syncs.)
If I were you, I'd report it missing, both to your provider and your insurance company. Bad times mate.

so this whole microsoft my phone tracking service doesn't work? Has anyone, or anyone heard of it working...? Would o2 track it and tell me where it is? I heard they won't due to privacy infringement or whatever...but surely thats what these service are in place for, to find a lost phone?

Have you tried phoning O2 to ask them? It sounds like you've not exactly been too proactive with regards to recovering or safe guarding your phone thus far.

ive been phoning it every day and trying to track it. ive got in touch with the local police station to find out if its been handed in but i cant do that without saying its been stolen and filing a report which im reluctant to do right now if this microsoft my phone service works...

I'm assuming you don't have insurance? I'd think it's safe to say you've lost it, i'd file a report with the local police and try to claim via the insurance if you have it. Getting the IMEI barred is a real last ditch attempt as you can't remove the barred number from your countrys network once it's been done.

The myphone service is linked to the phone by your windows live ID. i would lock it asap with myphone, making the phone useless unless a hard-reset has been performed... After a hard-reset myphone wont be linked to your live ID anymore
I've tried the myphone premium services, and i can confirm that they work. If your phone cant be located, its just bad luck.

that's why i'm reluctant to block it and report it, once i clock it, i can't keep trying to locate it. if i keep trying to locate it and I fail, i'll lock it via microsoft my phone and put the message for them to contact me, leave it a couple of days, if nothing, block it through o2 with the imei. When i click get started its saying that i can try more than 2 times within a week, so ill have to wait until thursday to try it again i think.
EDIT: Can i still locate it i lock it through myphone not blocking the imei?

Apparently you can.
'For 7 days, My Phone will try to lock your phone. You can check the status of your lock request by returning to this page at any time.'

Microsoft are just as usual usless absolultely usless at giving you any information on any product or service they offer on their own website, and it doesn't actually say anywhere if you can still locate it. But it would be completely pointless if you locked it and it wouldn't let you actually locate the handset, so I would guess you could.

IIRC you can get it to display a custom message when it's locked from myphone. "Hi, thanks for finding my phone. Please call me on xxx-xxx-xxxx to claim your reward!"

Even if it does locate it, it's gonna be in a 50m radius, at best. Probably more in the region of a 200m radius, which is nearly the same as not knowing where it is.
If you can get it to lock and display a message, leave it for a little while and then get it blocked via the imei.

I have a replacement sim card being used in a temporary phone at the moment, I just tried to lock the phone, why am I getting a coded text to this number, surely it should be trying to lock my imei not my number?

It has still got to send the phone a locking command, which is what you are getting.
As you are using a replacement SIM with the same number, you are in fact, preventing yourself from using any of the MyPhone functions, as there is no way to connect to the lost phone.

Fatal error.

HD2 StolenToday-No help

So, unfortunately on my way to work this morning at 5:30 am, while on the train my phone was grabbed out of my hand by a teenage boy and then her ran off the train ):
All i was doing was silencing the alarm, he timed it perfectly. SMDH
Well, i spent all AM calling toll free # to toll free #. T-Mobile/Microsoft/HTC.
What i do not understand is how NONE OF THEM were able to track the phone for numerous reasons (allegedly)
Esp. since i was unable to do it via. the Microsoft my phone website.
Also, what is the point of having to report it stolen and file a police report for the claim when I still have to pay the same thing I would if i was neglectful and lost/broke it....?

Oh sry one more question, why isnt the memory card covered if it came inside the phone?

That sucks! It sounds like the kid knew to pull the battery as soon as he got out of sight.
If he's smart, he'll probably leave the battery out for a few days, or only boot up the phone once in the early morning.
Without the battery to power the GPS, the different recovery methods won't work.
If the kid also flashes a new ROM right away, then myPhone will never find it. Not sure about HTC's method, which may include using the unique ID.
There's a cab floating around here somewhere which will email you if someone switches SIM cards on your phone, or if you send your number a special text. This only works if they don't flash a new ROM first though. And it's a little late for you

Memory cards are an accessory and those are never covered
On the flip side of that, when your new phone arrives, it could very well have a new card in it anyway. Especially if they are loading them at the factory before packaging.

its no good to you now, but remotetracker can survive a hard reset if the sd card doesn't change, or be cooked in with your settings permanently, and it can cope with sim card being changed.
it also allows you to lock up the phone, wipe the card, show message on screen, get call and txt details, get location on cells when gps can't, recover any files you like, via email or even ftp. loads more, amazing piece of free software.

SMH. What upset me was that they didnt even attempt to track it. Esp. microsoft. i told them when online it wasnt letting me do so and they said its only an online feature and they cant help. like wth is CC for?
They treated it like it was lost although i had a police report.

Can't believe he answered the phone!
Keep trying with myPhone and the second you get his position, send it to the cops!

To make things worst, I woke up this morning only to check MMP, and I can see the contacts/pictures & texts that the person who has my phone are sending/saving!!! And yet Tmobile are still saying they cant track the phone number....B.U.L.L.S.H.*.T.

If he is saving the pics the nit should be updating his postion, so it will tell you where he is.

hope ya harvesting numbers, i'd be harassing all his friends, and posting their number and his pics and such

Ugh. I wish I was able to see the persons number who actually has the phone. smh i'm shocked it isnt letting me.

well he's still using your number right...? you said you were able to call and talk to him, so the phone won't know what his number is. However, I'd put money down on the fact that the very first number he called when he got the phone, was his own, so he could get your number off his phone's incoming call. Call the very first number that appears in your t-mobile call logs as happening after he stole it, and I'll bet the same guy (him) answers as when you called your number.
Either way, I would follow samsamuel's suggestion and start putting pressure on every single person in his contact list, or even put a post up on craigslist addressed "to everybody on this a$$hole's contact list, he stole my phone"...and post every single name in there, and whatever choice commentary you feel would help flush him out
Shoot, start posting every single one of his text messages online....especially the most private or embarassing ones for he and his friends. Watch his messaging activity too and I'm sure you'll spot and e-mail address or facebook/myspace account name, something you can use to smack him in the face with info....you may not know who he is, but you certainly have access to enough info about him to make him regret it.
I'm guessing at this point he still has no idea that you can see all that about him, so use your advantage here wisely....

That was yesterday. Afterward i suspended my acct and he must have sold it to or gave it to a female b/c she is in the pictures and by the text language I can tell its a girl...
So as of ystrday after I cut the service off, the sim card has been changed to hers but TMO wont help smh.

Ahhh gotcha. Ok well yeah then I think the best you can do is just be very crafty with how you use what you can see. I still feel confident that they have no idea that myphone is doing it's thing, so just don't tip that hand too soon I know I'd have a bit of perverse fun coming up with ways to take advantage of all that!
It's interesting that myphone still updates to your same account even with a new sim/number....I guess it makes sense, since you log into an msn account to use it, and it probably only cares what data there is to back up, not what phone number or carrier account it's tied to.
Even though the myphone site won't tell you where it is, do any of the other "now what?" (premium) services show as possible? It says you can wipe the phone remotely if they work, but you may lose the insight myphone is giving you for now. But, it may become the final option at some point
EDIT: I guarantee you that T-mobile has the ability to do more to locate the phone....but without a supoena in your hand, you may never benefit from that

Unfortunately thats wasnt working. its said it couldnt locate.

QUESTION:
I was just in my Gmail and noticed they deleted a few non-important emails i received ystrday. i jusat changed my password on all of my accts. thats means the phone will pront the password to be updated on there and if she doesnt know it she wont be able to access it right???????

I have a OnePlus 8 Pro that i need to get in to. The phone is mine on my T-Mobile account, i bought it for my brother on his birthday.
2 days ago he committed suicide. No note No explanation nothing. He was the strongest person we all knew. Never showed any weakness.
Even his wife cant understand it. I need to be able to get into the phone. There has to be something in there that shed some light on WHY???
His wife, daughter and I NEED answers. I have a ton of experience rooting and modding phones but i don't know how to get past a lock screen without wiping the phone.
If anybody can help me out i would be forever grateful. I would even pay if that's necessary. I am in so much pain right now over this.
Please help

Sorry to hear this.
If the phones on Android 11 then theres no twrp so there no way to remove the passcode / pin as far as I'm aware.
Here's a guide explaining how to remove a passcode. However I think with an encrypted phone you won't be able to access files even via twrp.

Data recovery companies may be able to help if it's really needed.

Thank you for this info. I will attempt whatever i can.
I will try this and see if it works. I just received a call from the detective and he said they have a device that could do this for us.
I might go that route since there is nothing illegal that he was doing.
was just hoping to do it today as to get it done sooner.

As it's Android it'll be possible. But difficult without the right kit..
I'd clarify what the detective wants to see on the device and can you be present for the unlock.

Exactly what i was thinking. I would prefer i am there and they unlock it and hand it straight to me.
I know he wouldn't appreciate anybody not the closest of family getting access and seeing his personal thoughts.

Tbh I wouldn't want anyone looking through my phone is like a treasure trove..
I'd bare that in mind, not everything is meant to be seen. Doesn't mean anything, it's just how we are.

As insensitive as this sounds, I am a homicide detective. If he had a fingerprint lock on the phone, you could use his physical fingerprint from his hand prior to burial to unlock the phone. We have used this method several times with success.
Regardless, my condolences to you and yours.

Yeah i was hoping to be able to do just this but since the family members are not very etch savvy, they power cycled the phone off and because of that the first unlock into the system has to be with the numeric password.
I rebuilt his laptop for him a couple months ago so i have the password to get into it. I'm hoping that he saved his email credentials in it. I know that after multiple attempts into android it allows you to change password through the email. This is the last thing i can think to do.
I reached out to OnePlus this morning and the woman who was answering my questions said she had no answers for me. she kept saying i could factory reset it through recovery mode. I already know that, i need the info on it. I'm thinking about reaching out to google also. Who knows they might help since the phone is in my name on my account.

Not yet. I had an appointment to day with the funeral home to get access to his body so we could use his fingerprint but the phone was turned off since his last login.
It now required the numeric password before logging in. I have one shot left that i can think of. If i can gain access to his email i might be able to reset the password that way.
Fingers crossed. It was so hard yesterday going to the funeral home. We all need answers

When your reset his email you'll be able to recieve s text message with a verification number

I saw that. unfortunately i don't have his email credentials for his Find My Device.
Also the sm card was removed my his wife before she gave it back to me unfortunately.
Although it does connect to my Wifi at home... I'm almost to the point of giving up.
I don't think we will ever know why he did what he did.

I kinda don't buy the OP story but here is my take:
- Doesn't need a SIM to get/use Find my device working but does require Google account access which is recoverable easily.
- It's trivially easy to recover a Google account with the phone number of the deceased unless the person specifically removed those options and used for instance an authenticator app (of if you don't have the actual SIM or access to that phone number but that would be strange).
- If you cannot recover the account that way, you can still recover it using a legal path by providing the correct inheritance documents to Google (through a lawyer if required) which should pose no issue (again this should pose no issue and while it would take time, it would work).
- Whatsapp cloud backup (on Google drive) is enabled by default and if you're after that, it's probably gonna be trivially easy to restore said backups on any new phone by using the SIM card of the deceased. Unless the person specifically disabled this to prevent this.
You can most likely recover Whatsapp messages without even unlocking the phone. This whole process is actually not hard and requires no tech help and can be done through the legal processes.
Added to all this, I checked your history and saw that you requested help before unlocking a Pixel phone that magically came into your possession before. So it seems you have a pattern of coming into possession of locked phones that makes me very suspicious of your demand.
I'll report this thread and ask a mod to review it.

Sorry. I also have doubts any time I see a story here asking for help unlocking a phone. Always sounds suspicious, and furthermore where are the mods here? Aren't there rules that state no requests for help unlocking phones??

The phone was never actually on a Sprint account. It was never technically paid off by a consumer. Its also never been activated on the sprint network to my understanding. (Which are all required to have sprint send an unlock code)
It was given to me by a Sprint store manager when they had to clean out end of year inventory.
