How to unlock the Shield Tablet/K1 bootloader on Linux. - Shield Tablet General

I just spent several hours wasting time, so I want to make this guide to help other people so that they don't have to.
DISCLAIMER
I am not responsible if this breaks your tab. If your tab does break, I might be able to help you. By following this guide, you are agreeing that I cannot be held responsible for anything that happens. Unless your bootloader unlocks. I might could be help repsonsible for that.Post-unlock
You may want to backup your data, as unlocking the bootloader will erase all user data&apps. A good backup tool is Helium Backup. Find it on the Play store. The free version is fine.
First
Install adb and fastboot from the repos. You won't need the drivers if you are using Linux.
SecondOptional
Enable USB debugging. This isn't required, but can speed up the next step.
Third
Boot tablet into bootloader mode. This can be done two different ways.
A
Power off the tablet in any way. Then, press and hold power+volume_down. When the screen turns on, you can release then.
B
If you enabled USB debugging, then connect your tablet to your pc and authorize the computer. Then, open a terminal and type:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
This will reboot the device to the bootloader.
Fourth
Make sure that fastboot has recongized your device by typing:
Code:
sudo fastboot devices
This is where the problem can happen. If you don't sudo the command, it will show a device with "no perms." That can be rather confusing. If you try to use fastboot for anything else, it will show "waiting for device."
Fifth
Now type
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
There will be a choice on the device to unlock the bootloader or to leave it locked. Navigate to the unlock and select it. THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON THE DEVICE.
Sixth
You should be at the bootloader menu. It should say: Device-Unlocked
You should be finished.

[Q] Nexus 10 will not boot after unlocking bootloader

Hello all,
I am trying to install Cyanogenmod on my Nexus 10. I followed the instructions on the Cyanogenmod wiki (I can't link to them as a new user). I got as far as these instructions to unlock the device:
Enable USB debugging on the device.
Connect the device to the computer through USB.
From a terminal on a computer, type the following to boot the device into fastboot mode:
Code:
$ adb reboot bootloader
From the same terminal, type the following command to unlock the bootloader (under Linux, you must be root):
Code:
$ fastboot oem unlock
A disclaimer will display on the device that must be accepted. Use the volume keys to cycle through the options. Pressing the power button should confirm your selection.
If the device doesn't automatically reboot, reboot it from the menu. It should now be unlocked. You can confirm this is the case if you see an unlocked icon at the bottom of the Google boot screen during reboots.
However, the device never rebooted. It just shows the glowy nexus X logo indefinitely. If I reboot to the bootloader, I get options for recovery mode, however the device does not show up on fastboot or adb from my computer in recovery mode, so I don't know what to do.
I am new to the world of unlocking and custom roms and whatnot, and am worried that I just bricked my tablet . Thanks for reading.
OK, I found the answer searching online. A video on youtube explains it. The forum won't let me link the video, but the youtube id is T1Se7Hr9Cww. Put that after the "v=" in a youtube URL and you'll get there.
explains how to fix it. Evidently unlocking the boot loader doesn't reset the device, but the device must be reset to continue. So you need to do mash all the buttons in recovery mode to bring up a menu to delete your stuff.

[HOW-TO]Unlock the Bootloader on the Nvidia Shield

Introduction
The purpose of this guide is to provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to unlock the bootloader on your Nvidia Shield.
Why Would I want to Unlock my Bootloader?
Unlocking your bootloader allows you to modify all aspects of your device to suite your needs which includes but is not limited to, installing custom Recovery images such as Clockworkmod Recovery or Team Win Recovery Project, installing custom ROM's, custom Kernels, as well as other MOD's and patches.
Will Unlocking my Bootloader Void my Warranty?
Warning: Unlocking your Nvidia Shield's bootloader will void the warranty, please note that even if you re-lock the bootloader the bootloader still show a flag that the device is voided for warranty.
This warning being given please also see this post by JordanKeyes regarding warranty information as it relates to hardware issues or hardware failures.
Unlocking your Bootloader
1. Backup everything on your device that you don't want to loose such any apps (And there respective data), pictures, videos, music, etc. as unlocking your devices bootloader will erase all data on the device. You can fully backup your devices contents without root using ADB's backup command or by using the Holo Backup Tool.
2. Download and install the ADB and Fastboot drivers for your Shield, the drivers can be downloaded here. You can also follow along with wwjoshdew's excellent video tutorial on how to properly install the ADB and Fastboot drivers for your Shield on Windows.
3. Make sure you have ADB and Fastboot setup and installed on your computer. If you haven't already setup and installed ADB and Fastboot a simple ADB and Fastboot installer can be downloaded from here.
4. Fully power off your Shield by long pressing on the Power button until the power menu appears, then select the "Power off" option.
5. Boot your Shield into Fastboot mode using one of the following ways:
5. A. Power on your Shield while simultaneously holding the Power button + Back button + Home button. Release the buttons once the Fastboot bootloader screen appears.
5. B. Run the following ADB command from a command prompt window (USB cable must already be connected from your Shield to your Computer):
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
6.Now that you are at the Fastboot bootloader screen, connect your Shield to your computer using your USB cable. Make sure that your USB cable is plugged into a USB 2.0 port directly connected to your motherboard as sometimes USB 3.0 ports can cause problems and front panel USB connections can be unreliable.
7. Open up a command prompt window (cmd) in the directory where installed ADB and Fastboot to. For example if I installed ADB and Fastboot to a folder on my Desktop which is on my D: drive I would open a command window in "D:\Desktop\Fastboot_ADB".
8. From the command prompt windows enter the following command:
Code:
fastboot devices
If you device is detected and it shows your devices serial number you are ready to move on to the next step. If no device is shown make sure you have the correctly installed the ADB and Fastboot drivers from step number 2.
9. Now that your device is detected by Fastboot the following command is used to unlock your bootloader:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
10. You will now be presented with the bootloader unlock menu. After reading the disclaimer, use the Back button and the Home button to navigate to the "Unlock" option. Once the "Unlock" option has been highlighted use the Shield button to confirm your selection of unlocking your bootloader. It's important to remember that unlocking the bootloader will wipe all your data from the device, and that a flag showing your warranty is void will appear at the bootloader screen.
11. Once your bootloader has finished being unlocked, you will be taken back to the fastboot bootloader screen. From here you can power off your Shield.
Re-locking your Bootloader
To re-lock your bootloader you can following steps 4-8 of the procedure listed above and when you come to step 9 run the following command instead of "fastboot oem unlock":
Code:
fastboot oem lock
The above command will re-lock your Shield's bootloader. Note: As previously mentioned re-locking your Shield's bootloader will not restore your warranty or remove the warranty void flag on your device's bootloader.
Conclusion
Now that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader on your Nvidia Shield you are free to flash custom Recoveries, ROM's, Kernel's, MOD's etc. enjoy :good:.
If you are stuck with the bootloader unlocking procedure I would recommend checking out this great video tutorial by wwjoshdew.
I'm having an issue unlocking the bootloader. I have the drivers and fastboot install successfully as well as adb and fastboot. I run the command "adb reboot bootloader" which reboots my shield into bootloader but when I run "fastboot devices" nothing shows up. USB debugging is enabled.
When the device is booted normally the command "adb devices" picks up the device. It is only in fastboot that adb commands aren't recognized.
I added a picture, any thoughts?
Edit: followed the instructions in the following video and all is dandy now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSisjVwcPbE&hd=1

Look in device manager and check if the PC recognizes the shield as an adb device when in fastboot.
For me i have to switch between using fastboot and being able to copy files to it.
fastboot error

Hi i am having issue with dab and fast boot drivers.
When I install the driver as adb I can't fast boot to install the thor.img but once it reboots It reverts or reinstalls a shield driver and causes confusion and blocks when I want to mount.

Nvidia just released a new set of USB drivers in their Tegra for Android Development Pack which you can download from here. I would recommend installing the development pack and the drivers it includes.
ok
I have done it and these are the new drivers I have under device manager.
Still can't mount though, operation not permitted Usb debugging enabled.
here are the two new drivers which let me get as far as the mount command but no further
View attachment 2210144
and here's it telling me no in abd and fastboot

From that pic you posted the mount command failed because you were not root.

Where did you find the towelroot apk? Been searching for over a month with no success.

BTW, bootloader mode on the tablet:
- Hold "Volume Down" -> Press "Power" and continue to hold "Volume Down" until device boots into bootloader mode.
There is no home or back button to press while the device is off.
Sorry for bump this thread, but i have to.
I want to unlock my bootloader to revert back into KK and then try to do a clean installation of LP. Reading this guide and watching the videos, and also looking into the img downloaded from nvidia, it says i have to install the fastboot drivers. The problem is that i have already installed fastboot and adb drivers since i have some other devices as a Xperia and stuff. For me, there is no Yellow sign as shown in the video, my device is recognized as Portable Device and it already says "Shield Tablet" MTP.
I've tried going into bootloader to see if it prompts any new devices but i got nothing. adb devices show my device, but i'm not sure if i need more.

re-locking boot loader & restore

How can I relock the boot loader and restore my Stylo 2 to factory default? Provider is T-mobile.
fastboot flash oem lock.
Note however if you used twrp this will brick your device unless you flash the original recovery first. Provided you got the kdz or LG bridge you should be able to just lock put in download mode and use the repair recovery option.I'm not responsible if you brick your device. Good luck

I had used LG Bridge to reflash my phone so I believe that I have original recovery on the phone. How can I verify?
When I enter fastboot flash oem lock I get < waiting for device> on my terminal screen and thats it?
Once you have the phone wiped completely back to default (including recovery) with the LG tools. Enable developer mode, and then enable USB debugging. While it is plugged into your PC navigate to the folder where you have the ADB applications in CMD or add the location to your Environment variables. The latter will allow you to launch ADB/fastboot commands from any location in CMD. I definitely suggest this. With your phone connected run "adb devices" to make sure that it sees your device. Then run "adb reboot-bootloader" to reboot into the bootloader. While on that screen run the command "fastboot flashing lock_critical". It should prompt OKAY then give the time it took and also that all of the user data was deleted. Then finish up by typing "fastboot reboot". That will put the phone back into a normal mode. Boom, you are done.
Help
When I use the fastboot oem lock, at the moment when I power on the phone in the screen appears the text "Your device has failed a routine safety check and will not boot.
This may be a temporary problem. If this message occurs rerepeatedly, visit this link on another device and refer to the Red case: g.co/ABH
I have two days looking for the solution, and I didn't found anything

[GUIDE] OnePlus X: How to Unlock Bootloader and Backup EFS

Warning: Rooting does not void the OnePlus X’s warranty, though damaging your hardware (i.e., burning up your CPU/Motherboard by overclocking, hardbricking the device) will. You proceed at your own risk! I accept no responsibility for what you do with your phone. Follow the directions closely, and the odds are you will succeed without any trouble. If you are not sure what you are doing, do some more research before you try.

1. Set Up Fastboot & ADB
2. Unlock OPX Bootloader
3. Enable USB Debugging & Activate OEM Unlock
4. How to backup EFS & Other Partitions
Lets get started
1. Set Up Fastboot & ADB Drivers:
What’s ADB?
ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge. It works when the device is powered on and booted into OS or Recovery. The tool helps in sending basic linux commands, and a variety Android specific commands from PC to connected Android devices.
What’s Fastboot?
Fastboot works only in bootloader/fastboot mode. It allows you to re-flash system partitions on your Android device and requires a device with an unlocked bootloader. It’s particularly useful when you want to update your device manually or in a rare situation when you accidentally soft-brick your device and need to install a clean stock system image.
Download and run adb-setup-1.3.exe
2. Unlock OPX Bootloader:
Backup important files stored on your OnePlus X before proceeding with the steps below, as unlocking the OnePlus X Bootloader will completely wipe/delete all files on the device.
After the installation of drivers (OnePlus X, Fastboot & ADB drivers) follow the below to proceed with Unlocking the Bootloader of your Oneplus X
3. Enable USB Debugging & Activate OEM Unlock:
* Go to Settings > About phone, and then tap ‘Build number’ 7 times or until you get the message ‘You’re now a developer!’.
* Go back to Settings, choose ‘Developer options’. Find the ‘USB debugging’ option and use this toggle button to enable it. Accept warning by tapping on OK button.
Also in the ‘Developer options’. Find the ‘OEM Unlocking’ option and use its toggle button to enable it. It asks for your PIN/Screen unlock code, type it. Then accept the warning by tapping on OK button.
Connect your OnePlus X to windows now. You will get a pop-up on your phone when you connect for the first time after enabling USB debugging. Select ‘Always allow from this computer’ checkbox and then tap on OK button. (You may or may not get this prompt so don’t bother if you dont)
Boot your OnePlus X into Bootloader/Fastboot mode. (Make sure you have backed up all important data as you’ll lose everything on phone in the steps below.)
Connect your OnePlus X — in Bootloader mode — to PC. Let the driver install.
Open a command window on your PC.
For this:
>>Open the adb folder on your PC.
>>Hold shift key, right click on empty white space.
>>Choose Open command window here option from that.
Power off your phone then boot into fastboot mode (power + volume up).
Connect your phone to your windows via usb cable.
Confirm whether fastboot is working. With OnePlus X connected to PC, run the following command in command window.
Code:
fastboot devices
It should return your device serial number, if not you need to make sure your drivers are installed correctly.
Once you've confirmed your fastboot connection to unlock the bootloader use
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
The device will now go through the automated unlocking process, just let it do its thing and it'll boot up into Android.
You’ll see a new screen on your device. Choose Yes and confirm it.
That’s it. The device will reboot automatically.
To confirm unlock status, reboot into bootloader and type the following command:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
Code:
Device unlocked: true
Other lines are not that important
4. How to Backup EFS & Other Partitions (Root Needed)
* Download Partitions Backup And Restore App from Here
* Open the app and grant it root access.
* Click on the Settings icon above and select preference to .img
* Select the partitions marked in yellow and backup them by clicking on the download like button at the bottom right.
* Go to the storage and search for the Partitions Backup folder there you will three .img files (modem,modemst1,modemst2) . Save them to your cloud and as many places as you want as they are very important files.
This way you can back up all other partitions too. (I would recommend backing up all those that are not found in a factory image.)

It is quite different from TWRP, though it is not mandatory to perform a EFS backup.
Hi folks, i unlocked the boot loader (see attached file) but i can't start TWRP or Partitions Backup and Restore, any ideas?

Just got my x720, need some help.

Hello there, just got a new x720 yesterday and I was wondering if anyone who always have one has a complete guide of the compatible softwares to unlock it, update the firmware and install a custom ROM. I saw some guides but those are old and some of them recommend one tool, others were recommending other tools or versions and on the topic from the ROM it recommend yet another tools, so, I'm kind of lost in what is actually compatible with my device.
Thnks.
Follow these steps to completely unlock your bootloader, install Twrp and root. Do yourself a huge favor and make a full Twrp backup and save it to your PC. Enjoy your phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75009966
Edit those are X727 instructions, ( But you can still use the instruction above as a guide, you just don't need to flash a different bootloader.) But since you have a X720 it's a little easier.; use these instructions instead : https://www.skyneel.com/unlock-bootloader-leeco-le-pro3
Basic Instructions:
Download and Install ADB drivers and fastboot tools on your PC.
With EUI System Settings: Enable the USB debugging on your device after enabling ‘Developer Options’ by going to ‘About phone’ and tapping build number 7 times.
Usb debugging
On the PC : Open the ADB folder, located in C: Drive
While you are in the ADB Folder, press Control + Right mouse click” and choose “Open command window here.”
ADB COMMAND
Now connect your device to the PC using a USB data cable.
Boot your device into “Fastboot” ( hold volume down and power at same time) mode and give the following command : reboot bootloader
adb reboot bootloader
Execute the following command to unlock the bootloader.
Run "fastboot devices" to check that you can see your device
HTML:
fastboot oem unlock
Run "fastboot oem unlock-go" to unlock your device temporarily
HTML:
fastboot oem unlock-go
Run "fastboot oem device-info" to verify unlock status Unlock status should read true
That's it your device bootloader is unlocked.
Make sure adb can see your device when you run "adb devices"
Run "adb reboot bootloader"
Run "fastboot devices" to check that you can see your device
Run "fastboot oem unlock-go" to unlock your device temporarily
Run "fastboot oem device-info" to verify unlock status
Immediately flash Twrp and Magisk Root
2. Install Twrp :
https://twrp.me/leeco/leecolepro3.html
****** Scroll down to see: Fastboot Install Method
Reboot to recovery , checking boxes to install Tw4rp manager, if it appears.
When you are ready to install a Rom I highly recommend AICP 14. Go to that thread for assistance.
For future convenience I highly recommend that you buy an***OTG drive:***it makes the whole process a thousand times easier: Usb 3 drives are cheap usually somewhere near $5 and absolutely worth it
**Unlocking the Bootloader** Another option
* Mauronofrio created a tool called: "TOOL ALL IN ONE"" it's great, install it and check for updates.
Get it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/development/tool-tool-one-mauronofrio-t3580611
* The all is one tool is excellent and you can use it to install everything if wanted.
* I usually recommend it for novices that can use it to help with unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP.
* The tool will also update your copy of ADB, android Drivers and provide system wide privileges for ADB
* It can unlock your bootloader, install TWRP and root and you can even use it for rom installation
**LETS RECAP :***Choose using the All in One Tool or the ADB Method*
***BEFORE DOING ANYTHING***
* Make sure you have enabled the developer tools,
* Turned on USB debugging
* Authorized your computer on your device I.E: “MTP”
* Make sure the All in One Tool can see your device*
(*) Select your device from the drop down menu, then click check*
(*) Choose to install drivers, and set ADB and fastboot privileges from advanced menu.
(*) First attempt to unlock, then check bootloader status
* Next, choose Recovery flasher and manually select your copy of TWRP or download it through the tool
* After you have received the success message, I recommend doing the rest of the install manually within Twrp Recovery.
Worst case scenario, if you need help PM me, and I can help you remotely, note : I will charge you a fee.

I would like to acquire it, as far as I know, the brand (LEECO) will no longer make cell phones, is this because they are of poor quality and of low resistance?

Have an x727. Still working really well. Have developed a battery drain if phone is off but phone was kicked down a flight of concrete stairs without a case. Better battery life than my OnePlus 6t and on AICP ROM everything just works. I just can't shut it off or battery drains like crazy, I switch to airplane mode in place of shutting it down. Believe this is the most durable phone I've owned.
