I need a help. - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear developers
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 Sm G900F
I have rooted my phone.
Now i want to update my phone from Samsung Automatic Update..
But i couldn't do this.
When i tried to do that one message comes to me that
The operating system of your device has been modified in an unauthorised way try to contact with costumer care.
Could you please let me know that how to treat it.

This is normal.....because you have rooted your device, that modification has been detected, and OTA will not work.
Depending on how you rooted you have either one or two options.....
You could.....
1) use the setting within the super user app to unroot and try the OTA again (this won't work if you have a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP)
2) Download a firmware from either...
Sammobile dot com
Or
Samsung-updates dot com
And flash it with Odin.
Be advised that whichever method you use, you WILL lose root.

Screen not working - Unroot for warranty

My Galaxy S4 just decided to show wavy lines on the screen instead of turning on - as far as I can tell the screen and digitiser are no longer working.
**I CANNOT SEE OR DO ANYTHING ON THE SCREEN**
I have a 4.2.2 i9505 UAMDE -Stock Rom- that is rooted.
I have never flashed any other firmware to it - just rooted it.
I have Kies access and backed up my phone. Kies prompted for a firmware upgrade when I plugged in the phone.
I want to return it to stock/unroot etc so Samsung will warranty the phone without fuss (it was not dropped, just stopped working).
Some questions:
Most important:
1. Is it possible to get the phone to a state that will be warranty-ready without having a screen?
2. Do I need to Triangle away if all I have done is rooted? If so, can I do this without a working screen?
3. What is the best way to return to stock? ODIN or should I just let Kies update to latest firmware? (If either will it be enough to satisfy the first question)
4. If Kies does the update will I need access to the screen to complete it?
Thanks in advance!
1. You can flash same firmware with ODin. It will delete root access, but app will stay, so you have to uninstall it through https://play.google.com/store
2. You don't need to, unless you've made a root through Oding flash?
3. Odin
4. No, but it will udpate it to 4.3 with KNOX?

Thanks for the quick reply.
1. not sure which 'app will stay' you mean?
2. Actually I cannot remember how I rooted - I will have to look this up again. Something tells me cf-autoroot and maybe ODIN... All I can remember it that I still have stock ROM just with root.
4. Agree that this might not be the best idea as I am trying to stay away from KNOX but I wonder if Samsung will automatically update to the latest ROM as part of the fix?
Kies is currently sitting on backing up "preparing" for ages and ages... hope it works in the end.
Looking back I suspect I used CF-autoroot which probably mean my counter has gone up.
Any way of resetting this without a screen?
I've managed to get some screen control using adb, screencast and teamviewer.
Triangle away says:
Counter: 0
Binary: Official
System: Official
I suspect the Official comes from the fact I was running Wanam Xposed and spoofing official.
One last question -
Given all that information I should just be able to flash
4.2.2 UAMDE Stock rom from sammobile with odin
and everything will be warranty-ready?
(will this wipe all my data and programs as well? - something I WANT to happen)
It will not wipe it. On the older devices like S3, there was a special ROM for cleaning purposes with PIT file, that was repartitioning your memory. Maybe there is something like that for S4?

[Q] Note 4 Rooted, Then What?

I'm coming from the HTC environment and the Note 4 will be my first Samsung phone. I have a few concerns regarding root. Assuming the Note 4 can be rooted, using the Note 3 and the S5 as a precident, how does one maintain updates? With HTC, if you had root, you could flash a new ROM for software updates (newer android versions, bug fixes, carrier updates). However, to update firmware, like updated radios, you needed S-Off.
Please help explain. With the Note 4, what will we need in order to do the following, and what is the likelyhood each of the following will be possible:
1) Obtain Root to run apps requiring root (Titanium, adblocker, WIFI tether...)
2) Install custom recovery
3) Flash custom ROMs
4) maintain a phone with updated and current Firmware and Radios.
Otherwise, what do people do who root there phone on day 1? Do they go 1-2 years with the phone without updating firmware?
Thank you
you can update samsung software with no issues. Assuming they'll keep it like the Note 2, there under the settings>update, there are different tabs, and one is Samsung.
Modems and other such updates, you'll just need to wait a day or two for someone to upload the newer OTA with root. Sometimes, some of the root tools, like SuperUser, will have OTA survivor mode, but they're not guaranteed to worked.
End of the day, it's not anything you're not already use to
Thanks for the response. So if the bootloader is NOT able to be unlocked, what will we be missing out on then? If the bootloader IS locked and there is no way around it, we can still root, flash ROMS, and update radios/firmware?
we can only go by the past to predict the future, but in US ATT Note 3 had locked bootloader, T-mobile loader was unlocked, so it was up to the carrier, but I believe both had way to root. One problem with Samsung was Knox software, which once triggered by root or loading custom firmware couldn't be reset back to zero. Based on that flag some people claimed to be refused warranty repairs, others didn't, so who knows. One thing is that Samsung "donated" knox to Google L Android, so it may be on all Android phones in the future, but again who knows how Google will implement it. It may take a time for developers to find their way around new phone, so if you have concerns, wait a little until all is clear, for now we can only guess. My Note 3 is rooted, "official" with Knox flag 0, but I had to wait for proper methods to be developed and every time I update I need to re root (and make some other changes) again. There could be developer model also with everything open, who knows.
Thanks for the response.
I just need to clarify what can be done on a rooted Samsung device vs what can be done with a rooted AND unlocked Samsung device.
Am I correct:
Rooted Only:
-superuser
-can run root required apps (Titanium, Wifi Tether)
-can flash custom ROM but must be stock based only, and must be on stock kernel
-can NOT install CM or TWRP custom recovery
-can update firmware and radios but must OTA and then re-root
you cant flash a rom with stock recovery
if no bootloader unlock, and no custom recovery, then no rom flashing..

As stated above, this not correct. You'll able to flash the stock firm via Odin. In fact, you'll be able to get the tar file from Samsung if you wanted.

I haven't used it in awhile, but I believe you still need a custom recovery to use Mobile Odin, don't you?
i want root mostly for four reasons:
Disable logging
Multi window enable more apps
Make one hand mode background black
because its mine and i can...
But I also need it rooted without tripping knox (for work purposes..)

[Q] Help updating i1337m to official lollipop?

I have a Canadian Koodo Galaxy S4 (Model: SGH-i1337m) and I need help on how to update my phone to the official touchwiz android 5.0.
The phone was originally locked to Koodo, but I took it to a local phone store where they unlocked it for me. I now use the phone with another carrier (Rogers). I don't know the method they used to unlock it but after the process, my phone had become rooted and its device status was changed to "Custom". Also the Knox warranty counter became 0x1 after the unlock.
Right now the phone is on 4.4.2 and I'm unable to check for updates through the settings app as it gives me the message "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available."
I don't really use root for anything on my phone except for xposed (which I can live without) and I need help updating this phone to 5.0. I don't mind losing my data but I really need to keep this phone unlocked. If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have the same phone, Canadian variant, SGH-i337M. Koodo.
Do you have a custom recovery installed? If not, I would suggest using TWRP.
Download it here (I have TWRP too, and always used the dd install method several times without problem. Just MAKE SURE you have the exact command!):
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys4canada.html
Once TWRP is installed, really important to make a Nandroid backup ("Backup" menu). Would suggest copying the backup to PC as well (Backup everything, including EFS). TWRP is not needed to flash Lollipop, but it's important to keep a backup.
Next, flashing Lollipop using Odin (Doing this, your SD card/internal memory will be untouched, but you will loose your apps, SMS and stuff. Back these up before if you want. Otherwise, everything would be also in the TWRP backup you've performed earlier). Go to Sammobile to grab the update:
Koodo: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/45758/I337MVLUGOC4_I337MOYAGOC4_KDO/
Rogers: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/45777/I337MVLUGOC4_I337MOYAGOC4_RWC/
It doesn't matter much which one you choose - Their content remains the same, but maybe the radio/modem would differ between carriers I think. I would suggest choosing the Rogers firmware (I know that Koodo include a "Koodo" app in their firmware, for instance).
Then follow the instruction closely (Make sure to use a genuine Samsung cable, and reliable USB connection):
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.10.6
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v.3.10.6
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
I did the same thing myself to update to Lollipop. Worked great. But word of warning, you will loose your root access, and will have to root again (Same method worked for me, while I had problem disabling Knox on Lollipop somehow. Returned back to KitKat with my Nandroid backup).
Also, on that same Lollipop ROM, I encoutered WiFi issue, WiFi wouldn't turn ON at all (What the hell). Still haven't figured out the problem. That's why I would suggest keeping a backup of KitKat, for sure.
Also, don't worry about your unlocked phone, it will remained unlocked without problem.
Good luck

Use super su, and un-root your phone with the option for un-root. Or just flash stock rom that's match your model.
I apologize but I have tried to give supersu superuser status although supersu would have those permissions from kingroot, it could not update it's binaries. When I did a full unroot with kingroot, my phone still was not allowed to receive over the air updates via wifi. About flashing a stock Rom I can reroot with kingroot but I cannot locate any stock Rom for this phone. I did a lot of research trying to find one. Can you please advise to as to where to go so that I can locate the stock Rom? Thank you.

Getting the stock firmware
I have searched that particular location and my model is SM-G530AZ and it's not found in that directory. I am at a checkmate. Unless I can use a firmware from one of the Grand Prime phones with a similar model but that to me does not make too much sense... Or maybe it does. But regarding my particular model it doesn't exist (or so it seems. Can one please come up with a solution? Flashing the Rom is the only option at this point so need download stock. Thanx everyone. ?.

Since your model is a dual with lte i guess you can use the 530h firmware. but i'm not sure.
My Model's Definite Firmware
Thank you very much for that info. But its not a definite so I wouldn't go ahead with it. I find it very interesting that for every other model of the Grand Prime there is a definete stock software available for the user. But when it comes to mine there isn't. So if anyone can possibly find it I'll be so happy.

I am facing the same challenge with my G530AZ model aswell. I am not even able to see my Network mode menu to change after realizing my device can not receive 3G signal only Edge. I located this menu after rooting to unlock my phone however it has completely vanished as I may put it. Any news on a compatible stock rom will be appreciated aswell.
Solution for reverting phone fully into stock (SM-G530AZ) & any other Samsung
I wasn't going to let Samsung Customer Service get away with not be able to give me info on how to get the code for emergency recovery mode using Samsung Kies. I got the Samsung Rep to tell me how to get the code in Kies all the time (in emergency recovery mode). Have the usb plugged in first without the phone connected to it. Then hold down the volume down key on your phone when it's OFF and after the volume down key is being held down, connect your phone to the USB while the Samsung Kies program is running. The code should show in Kies after that. Then go to the tools selection in Kies and click on the Recovery Mode option and you follow the further instructions. I didn't try this yet but I will very soon. I wrote this right after I got off the phone from the Samsung Rep. I really hope that this is a true method that works. If yes, cheers to all!
Sorry, can't be so trusting with Customer Service Rep of Samsung
I apologize for my previous post in a way. Well first of all this model SM-G530AZ (my model) isn't compatable with Kies as in that I got a message from Kies saying that. Therefore there was no way for me to know that the holding of the volume down method will generate the code for the emergency software reflash on this model. Finally, if that Rep was able to make that mistake I doubt whether it works for phones that are compatable with Kies.

Any luck on flashing the sm-g530az. I try most of the firmware from sammobile. But no luck. And, sm-g5630az firmware is not in Sam Moblie.
Only solutions I can think of...
Earlier in this forum a member said that you can possibly use the 530h firmware, being that they are basically the same firmware as ours although he said he's not totally sure. If Kies 3 and the newer version of Kies (the name slipped my mind, but the message pops up anytime one installs Kies 3 asking if you want to download it) don't work because a message comes up saying that the phone doesn't support initializing, maybe what that member said is the only possible option for right now. But now I'm thinking that you can do anything to your phone which will be "normal" looking as far as for the things which the customer service reps look for see if the phone was tampered with which voids the warranty, in a repair center they can wipe all from the phone and put stock software. But the issue with that may be that the binaries that are on you phone now may cause your phone to get bricked being that their software uses different binaries. This is when they plug it in by them the phone need to load to 100% and if it stops in middle the phone is bricked. So they told me that there is that risk. If you can fool them into trying to do that flashing process on your phone because they seem to think that the warrantee is intact and it doesn't get bricked, you are good to go (I visited a Samsung repair center and found this out being that I had issues with them). But in your case that may or may not be possible . Good luck.
Your instructions were slightly off. Here's what worked.
1) install KIES 3. DO NOT PLUG IN PHONE
2) go to tools -> firmware upgrade and initialisation in KIES
3) device id = SM-G530AZ ; serial number is under battery
4) allow KIES to download the firmware
5) place phone in ODIN mode/Emergency Download Mode (hold VOL DWN and HOME while powering on ) then plug in phone to computer via USB
6) allow KIES to send image to phone. Have some ice cream and egg rolls and do not touch anything.
7) PROFIT! After the phone restarts, it will take you through initial set up (like when you bought it)
YOU WIN!! Even the Mobile Data is Set-up Already!
All your screwups (soft brick, deletes systemui....) are forgiven. Don't do it again.

did this work on the build g530az of5?
Cricket has not yet made lollipop available to me (I keep checking), so I have not been able to test it.

try again following those directions thoroughly, just worked for me earlier today, make sure you're on a good internet connection, and don't plug in the phone (which will be in download mode) until you absolutely have to. hope all goes well.

NOOB REQUEST - How to upgrade from 4.4.2 to Lollipop

Hey guys,
So I am a relative NOOB - I flashed my girlfriend last phone, ZTE Blade 2 and loaded a custom ROM made from a guy in Brazil that actually worked really well off the paltry 4GB storage it had. Eventually got it to read the 8GB SD card as internal memory - but this was 3 months ago and involved a lot of trial and error before figuring it out - thanks to XDA of course.
So I bought her a new S5 sealed form Korea - SM-G900A AT&T version.
Firmware version: 4.4.2.
I tried to run an OTA update to Lollipop and said it couldn't find anything
Then I realized it was rooted, and I thought maybe that is what is preventing the OTA update. So yesterday I unrooted the phone and loaded STOCK Samsung from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785363
Ran the OTA update request, still nothing.
Thinking as its an AT&T phone it may not run the OTA update on my countries networks - South Africa.
Thinking 2 stratergies going forward:
1 - Download the OTA Lollipop 5.1.1 version and forcing it to update without rooting the phone.
As described here:
http://www.droidviews.com/install-rooted-lollipop-on-att-galaxy-s5-sm-g900a/
Problem is I don't trust other sites and had good experiences with XDA so if someone could provide me a link to a XDA thread that hosts an OTA Lollipop update I would appreciate it.
Install Lollipop OTA on AT&T Galaxy S5
Make sure your AT&T Galaxy S5 is 100% stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware.
Now download the Lollipop OTA package: OTA_S5_5.0.zip | Mirror
Copy the OTA zip file to the external SD card of your phone.
Enable USB Debugging on your phone as precaution.
Now turn off your device and reboot into the stock recovery. To do so, hold the Volume Up+Home+Power keys together while the device is switched off. As soon as you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key and keep the other two keys pressed until you see the recovery menu.
Using the volume keys, scroll to apply update from external storage option and select it by pressing the Power key.AT&T-Galaxy-S5-stock-recovery
Navigate to the OTA update Zip package and select it.
Confirm installation when prompted.
When the file is flashed, go back to the main menu and select “reboot system now” option.
2 - Rooting the phone and upgrading the ROM to Lollipop.
As described below - problem is I don't want to void the warranty (could be void considering was rooted when received) nor brick the phone.
I prefer lower risk option UNLESS someone has a secure method of doing it? Any advice appreciated
Install Pre-Rooted Lollipop on AT&T Galaxy S5
If you want to enjoy root privilege on your AT&T Galaxy S5 running Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware, the following instructions would help you do that.
Warning!
You can use this method regardless of what firmware or build version your phone has. However, you must be rooted to be able to use the FireFlash app! Flashing the pre-rooted firmware provided below will not trip the KNOX Warranty Void flag. The procedure given below is considered risky. Follow it on your responsibility!
Preparations
To gain root access on your AT&T Galaxy S5 running KitKat, you can try Towelroot.
Enable USB Debugging on your Galaxy S5. This step has nothing to do with the method given below but it could be a lifesaver if anything goes wrong.
Install Chainfire’s FireFlash app on your AT&T Galaxy S5. Since this new app is only available for beta-testers currently, go to the Google+ page and join the Android-FlashFire community. You must be signed into Google+ using the same Gmail ID that you use on the Google Play Store. Having joined the community, click the Play Store link to download FireFlash Beta app.
Download the stock rooted Lollipop firmware for the AT&T S5: G900A_OC4_Stock_Rooted_ROM_wOA1_BL.zip (Note: The ROM is currently not available.)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Please advise on the best way going forward. I have about 3GB left on my data to play with so the next ROM I download I want to be my last.
