[Q] Help updating i1337m to official lollipop? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have a Canadian Koodo Galaxy S4 (Model: SGH-i1337m) and I need help on how to update my phone to the official touchwiz android 5.0.
The phone was originally locked to Koodo, but I took it to a local phone store where they unlocked it for me. I now use the phone with another carrier (Rogers). I don't know the method they used to unlock it but after the process, my phone had become rooted and its device status was changed to "Custom". Also the Knox warranty counter became 0x1 after the unlock.
Right now the phone is on 4.4.2 and I'm unable to check for updates through the settings app as it gives me the message "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available."
I don't really use root for anything on my phone except for xposed (which I can live without) and I need help updating this phone to 5.0. I don't mind losing my data but I really need to keep this phone unlocked. If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have the same phone, Canadian variant, SGH-i337M. Koodo.
Do you have a custom recovery installed? If not, I would suggest using TWRP.
Download it here (I have TWRP too, and always used the dd install method several times without problem. Just MAKE SURE you have the exact command!):
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys4canada.html
Once TWRP is installed, really important to make a Nandroid backup ("Backup" menu). Would suggest copying the backup to PC as well (Backup everything, including EFS). TWRP is not needed to flash Lollipop, but it's important to keep a backup.
Next, flashing Lollipop using Odin (Doing this, your SD card/internal memory will be untouched, but you will loose your apps, SMS and stuff. Back these up before if you want. Otherwise, everything would be also in the TWRP backup you've performed earlier). Go to Sammobile to grab the update:
Koodo: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/45758/I337MVLUGOC4_I337MOYAGOC4_KDO/
Rogers: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/45777/I337MVLUGOC4_I337MOYAGOC4_RWC/
It doesn't matter much which one you choose - Their content remains the same, but maybe the radio/modem would differ between carriers I think. I would suggest choosing the Rogers firmware (I know that Koodo include a "Koodo" app in their firmware, for instance).
Then follow the instruction closely (Make sure to use a genuine Samsung cable, and reliable USB connection):
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.10.6
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v.3.10.6
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
I did the same thing myself to update to Lollipop. Worked great. But word of warning, you will loose your root access, and will have to root again (Same method worked for me, while I had problem disabling Knox on Lollipop somehow. Returned back to KitKat with my Nandroid backup).
Also, on that same Lollipop ROM, I encoutered WiFi issue, WiFi wouldn't turn ON at all (What the hell). Still haven't figured out the problem. That's why I would suggest keeping a backup of KitKat, for sure.
Also, don't worry about your unlocked phone, it will remained unlocked without problem.
Good luck

Screen not working - Unroot for warranty

My Galaxy S4 just decided to show wavy lines on the screen instead of turning on - as far as I can tell the screen and digitiser are no longer working.
**I CANNOT SEE OR DO ANYTHING ON THE SCREEN**
I have a 4.2.2 i9505 UAMDE -Stock Rom- that is rooted.
I have never flashed any other firmware to it - just rooted it.
I have Kies access and backed up my phone. Kies prompted for a firmware upgrade when I plugged in the phone.
I want to return it to stock/unroot etc so Samsung will warranty the phone without fuss (it was not dropped, just stopped working).
Some questions:
Most important:
1. Is it possible to get the phone to a state that will be warranty-ready without having a screen?
2. Do I need to Triangle away if all I have done is rooted? If so, can I do this without a working screen?
3. What is the best way to return to stock? ODIN or should I just let Kies update to latest firmware? (If either will it be enough to satisfy the first question)
4. If Kies does the update will I need access to the screen to complete it?
Thanks in advance!
1. You can flash same firmware with ODin. It will delete root access, but app will stay, so you have to uninstall it through https://play.google.com/store
2. You don't need to, unless you've made a root through Oding flash?
3. Odin
4. No, but it will udpate it to 4.3 with KNOX?

Thanks for the quick reply.
1. not sure which 'app will stay' you mean?
2. Actually I cannot remember how I rooted - I will have to look this up again. Something tells me cf-autoroot and maybe ODIN... All I can remember it that I still have stock ROM just with root.
4. Agree that this might not be the best idea as I am trying to stay away from KNOX but I wonder if Samsung will automatically update to the latest ROM as part of the fix?
Kies is currently sitting on backing up "preparing" for ages and ages... hope it works in the end.
Looking back I suspect I used CF-autoroot which probably mean my counter has gone up.
Any way of resetting this without a screen?
I've managed to get some screen control using adb, screencast and teamviewer.
Triangle away says:
Counter: 0
Binary: Official
System: Official
I suspect the Official comes from the fact I was running Wanam Xposed and spoofing official.
One last question -
Given all that information I should just be able to flash
4.2.2 UAMDE Stock rom from sammobile with odin
and everything will be warranty-ready?
(will this wipe all my data and programs as well? - something I WANT to happen)
It will not wipe it. On the older devices like S3, there was a special ROM for cleaning purposes with PIT file, that was repartitioning your memory. Maybe there is something like that for S4?

[Q] Looking for Stock 4.4.2 for AIO/CRICKET

I have searched everywhere with no luck. My I337Z was 4.4.2 (after OTA) working well, no root, no unlock. Suddenly IMEI and Baseband go null. So what I did first was to restore it to factory settings, which didnt work and also some native apps like Contacts stopped working (not opening). I tried to restore it through KIES, it put my phone in Emergency mode, no escape there...I then went to the Factory files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448794 which got my phone back to 4.2.2 and working...but still no Signal nor IMEI nor Baseband. I flashed MODEM and now it doesn't have any sound, wifi either....I went through KIES again and was able to catch the files it downloads when initializing the device, flash the System, MODEM and CSC, but same results and it is still on 4.2.2. Also when trying to flash Bootloader I get FAIL(Auth) code (I suppose because my BL is not unlocked)
My request:
I am thinking if someone can make a backup of System partition, I could put it into my phone as RESTORE through TWRP (not installed yet) I might be able to revive this device.
EDIT: I am looking build i337ztuubne2 since my bootloader is now ne2 because of the OTA
Suggestions are welcome!! Thanks!!!

KIES 2.6 or 3? You had to be root to get to TWRP. Did the Z model ship with 4.2? I would be surprised, but don't really know. try 3. Start in download mode. I use cricket as well but never a cricket device. I will be in our cricket retailer today, the guys are pretty much ignorant to anything more than activating but possibly one may have a Z/s4 we could pull a nandroid from. Doubtful.
Sounds like you need a warranty replacement. Lesson learned? Always backup EFS!

First, the phone came with 4.2.2, so I used the files that kies 2.6 downloaded (haven't tried with kies 3) but the phone had 4.4.2 when it started acting up. It was updated OTA. As of now, I am rooted with twrp installed, no issues there. Now, if you could extract a nandroid from one of them, would be great! I do want to be on KitKat and not JB. I can flash it through odin 4.2.2 with no WiFi, sound nor calls. I think because the baseband is for KitKat and not for JB

Use super su, and un-root your phone with the option for un-root. Or just flash stock rom that's match your model.
I apologize but I have tried to give supersu superuser status although supersu would have those permissions from kingroot, it could not update it's binaries. When I did a full unroot with kingroot, my phone still was not allowed to receive over the air updates via wifi. About flashing a stock Rom I can reroot with kingroot but I cannot locate any stock Rom for this phone. I did a lot of research trying to find one. Can you please advise to as to where to go so that I can locate the stock Rom? Thank you.

Getting the stock firmware
I have searched that particular location and my model is SM-G530AZ and it's not found in that directory. I am at a checkmate. Unless I can use a firmware from one of the Grand Prime phones with a similar model but that to me does not make too much sense... Or maybe it does. But regarding my particular model it doesn't exist (or so it seems. Can one please come up with a solution? Flashing the Rom is the only option at this point so need download stock. Thanx everyone. ?.

Since your model is a dual with lte i guess you can use the 530h firmware. but i'm not sure.
My Model's Definite Firmware
Thank you very much for that info. But its not a definite so I wouldn't go ahead with it. I find it very interesting that for every other model of the Grand Prime there is a definete stock software available for the user. But when it comes to mine there isn't. So if anyone can possibly find it I'll be so happy.

I am facing the same challenge with my G530AZ model aswell. I am not even able to see my Network mode menu to change after realizing my device can not receive 3G signal only Edge. I located this menu after rooting to unlock my phone however it has completely vanished as I may put it. Any news on a compatible stock rom will be appreciated aswell.
Solution for reverting phone fully into stock (SM-G530AZ) & any other Samsung
I wasn't going to let Samsung Customer Service get away with not be able to give me info on how to get the code for emergency recovery mode using Samsung Kies. I got the Samsung Rep to tell me how to get the code in Kies all the time (in emergency recovery mode). Have the usb plugged in first without the phone connected to it. Then hold down the volume down key on your phone when it's OFF and after the volume down key is being held down, connect your phone to the USB while the Samsung Kies program is running. The code should show in Kies after that. Then go to the tools selection in Kies and click on the Recovery Mode option and you follow the further instructions. I didn't try this yet but I will very soon. I wrote this right after I got off the phone from the Samsung Rep. I really hope that this is a true method that works. If yes, cheers to all!
Sorry, can't be so trusting with Customer Service Rep of Samsung
I apologize for my previous post in a way. Well first of all this model SM-G530AZ (my model) isn't compatable with Kies as in that I got a message from Kies saying that. Therefore there was no way for me to know that the holding of the volume down method will generate the code for the emergency software reflash on this model. Finally, if that Rep was able to make that mistake I doubt whether it works for phones that are compatable with Kies.

Any luck on flashing the sm-g530az. I try most of the firmware from sammobile. But no luck. And, sm-g5630az firmware is not in Sam Moblie.
Only solutions I can think of...
Earlier in this forum a member said that you can possibly use the 530h firmware, being that they are basically the same firmware as ours although he said he's not totally sure. If Kies 3 and the newer version of Kies (the name slipped my mind, but the message pops up anytime one installs Kies 3 asking if you want to download it) don't work because a message comes up saying that the phone doesn't support initializing, maybe what that member said is the only possible option for right now. But now I'm thinking that you can do anything to your phone which will be "normal" looking as far as for the things which the customer service reps look for see if the phone was tampered with which voids the warranty, in a repair center they can wipe all from the phone and put stock software. But the issue with that may be that the binaries that are on you phone now may cause your phone to get bricked being that their software uses different binaries. This is when they plug it in by them the phone need to load to 100% and if it stops in middle the phone is bricked. So they told me that there is that risk. If you can fool them into trying to do that flashing process on your phone because they seem to think that the warrantee is intact and it doesn't get bricked, you are good to go (I visited a Samsung repair center and found this out being that I had issues with them). But in your case that may or may not be possible . Good luck.
Your instructions were slightly off. Here's what worked.
1) install KIES 3. DO NOT PLUG IN PHONE
2) go to tools -> firmware upgrade and initialisation in KIES
3) device id = SM-G530AZ ; serial number is under battery
4) allow KIES to download the firmware
5) place phone in ODIN mode/Emergency Download Mode (hold VOL DWN and HOME while powering on ) then plug in phone to computer via USB
6) allow KIES to send image to phone. Have some ice cream and egg rolls and do not touch anything.
7) PROFIT! After the phone restarts, it will take you through initial set up (like when you bought it)

[Q] Quick Question If Someone Has a Moment, Please

I just swapped from my Amaze 4g, to a used Note 3, and I'm a little lost as far as where I should start.
It says that it's on 4.4.2, and that I cannot update due to a modified system.
Basically, I would like to get updated to 5.1.1 (or as close as is official for the Note 3), and root it.
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Samsung devices, and because I purchased this from ebay, I don't know how to tell the exact state that the former user put it in (I expected they would return it to stock prior to selling).
It's currently a T-Mobile branded, SM-N900T, on 4.4.2, build is KOT49H, security software MDF v1.0 release 2. Kernel is 3.4.0-660648.
It is supposedly unlocked for carriers, though I have not attempted a SIM card use yet, until I can tell that what I have is a valid device and the IMEI is checked out.
Any thoughts on how to validate the IMEI, and sort out how to get my new phone up to date would be appreciated. As I stated, I expected the vendor would have returned it to stock, but that is clearly not the case, so I don't want to accidentally boot loop it by doing something I shouldn't. I have not owned a Samsung before, so I want to be careful on how it differs from my Nexus 7, Amaze 4g, and Droid X, as they're all obviously very different in the OS area.
Thank you for the help1
Download tbe stock 4.4.2 rom and use odin to install. Then you will get the OTA updates.
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
There is no stock 5.1.1 for note 3, only cm12.1/ aosp. Latest is 5.0 and you can use odin to flash. Maybe it's rooted that's why you can't update.

Some apps to install from Play Store...
Phone INFO Samsung - this will tell you all about your phone and the firmware etc.
Root Checker Basic - tells you if you are rooted or not.
SuperSU - this is so valuable you should buy the Pro licence. Chainfire does some great work for our phones.
TWRP - I have the zip version on my extSDCard and an Odin version on PC in case I have to rebuild from a Stock firmware. CWN works OK but most ROM builds seem to be for TWRP I think and a backup from one will not work on the other.
I don't know your previous phone so you probably need Odin v3.09 - this sits on PC and lets you flash firmware to the phone. (connected by USB)
For which you need Samsung USB drivers so the PC will recognise the phone. Install on PC before connecting phone.
Then do some browsing and find the processes to root your phone and install the ROM you want. If you just want Stock and access to all your phone, you can root it after flashing the original v5.0 download (from Sammobile or similar site - note on Sammobile you need a free account to DL) and then install Custom recovery (if wanted - it WILL trip the Knox flag but that may not matter given it's 2nd hand and might already be tripped anyway)
Read, make SURE you understand what is being said BEFORE you do anything - ask if you don't.
Good luck...
N9005 Lollipop brick
Hi All, just need a huge help here, a friend of mine has been using a N9005 which was auto restarting, she went online and downloaded this firmware...N900AUCUEOC1_N900AATTEOC1_N900AUCUEOC1_HOME.tar.md5....2.5GB in size...and flashed it, but the phone is stuck in boot loop even after recovery wiping data and cache, the phone can boot into download mode but re flashing the firmware always fails.....is there a solution for this.....please help
Thank you all for the info, especially the detailed info from Journyman16. I checked, and it is flagged as custom, which is fine, so I'm going to go ahead and try to return to mostly stock, update it, and root it.
Ok, everything went well. I had to do two attempts at rooting, but I think it's just one of those things where sometimes it doesn't restart into the process every time.
All seems good. I'm on 5.0, rooted, busyboxed, and smooth sailing.
Thank you all, again, for the tips. The Note 3 is running very well. Thank you to all of the devs that have made this process so refined. I've donated to you before, and did so again today. It's outstanding to have such well versed coders, on XDA, helping out the community.

[Q] G930V to G930U Conversion (Explain please)

Hello, All!
I have a G930V (Verizon S7) Non-EDGE, and I wan't to convert it to a G930U Unbranded (Or at least bloat free).
## BY THE WAY ##
Yes, I have seen other threads on this topic. Doesn't answer my confusions though.
Threads by:
tvm2487 (G930U Firmware)
James.Markham0757 (Can someone send me in the right direction...)
DeathAngel66669 (Using SamFirm to download SM-G930U-G930UUEU2APG9...)
## BY THE WAY ##
So anyways here are my questions.
##
1. Looking through Sammobile or Updato I see that a the newest version is
(G930UUEU2APEH) on (XAA), Would that work for the VZW Variant if not, What can i use?
2. Regarding my phone's below details would i be able to convert it to any of the 'U' Firmwares?
3. I don't wan't to trip any security features or mess with KNOX, really don't want to root.
Really just wan't to keep my warranty. Granted I will probably lose that by not using VZW firmware.
4. I thought flashing firmwares not similar to your phone will brick it permenantly. Why does the 'U' firmware run on the 'V'?
5. If i can flash the firmware (Odin?), What should i tick in the boxes for it to flash perfectly fine without errors?
Given this would be my first Samsung Tweaking.
6. Besides the Verizon bloat, What other cons are in the 'U' firmware that I should know about before doing the procedure?
7. Chances of bricking the phone? Would it be reversible?
##
My current S7 VZW Details:
Model: SM-G930V
Ver: 6.0.1
Patch Level: October, 1, 2016
Baseband Ver: G930VVRU4API3
I appreciate the help and your time. Thanks !

I don’t think it would flash as it is bootloader 2(5th character from right) latest firmware is 4!
2. Regarding my phone's below details would i be able to convert it to any of the 'U' Firmwares?
From what I understand all the USA variants of the Galaxy S7's are the same hardware
3. I don't wan't to trip any security features or mess with KNOX, really don't want to root.
Really just wan't to keep my warranty. Granted I will probably lose that by not using VZW firmware.
I have an AT&T branded S7 SM-G930A and have flashed the U firmware and used it for a while. I have now switched carriers to T-Mobile used the U firmware without issues and now flashed the T-Mobile firmware and it works fine. KNOW IS NOT TRIPPED.
4. I thought flashing firmwares not similar to your phone will brick it permenantly. Why does the 'U' firmware run on the 'V'?
Not sure, Odin may just fail to complete install?
5. If i can flash the firmware (Odin?), What should i tick in the boxes for it to flash perfectly fine without errors?

I never had luck flashing the HOME-CSC file, had to use straight CSC.
6. Besides the Verizon bloat, What other cons are in the 'U' firmware that I should know about before doing the procedure?
One thing I did notice is the visual voicemail app tends to work better when using the specific carrier firmware(both AT&T & T-Mobile).
I'm using T-Mobile and I don't see a need to go back to U at this time as their is not much bloat on the T-Mobile firmware.
7. Chances of bricking the phone? Would it be reversible?

I just installed T-Mobile Nougat on my phone and got the error on phone and it was stuck on “You will need to use Smart Switch Recovery” to fix phone! SCARY!!! I managed to finally get firmware installed and running!
Understood.
When I get home today I'll try to install a newer version from SamMobile.
Updato has older versions. Sammobile has the latest which is.
G930U with code (VZW) on
G930UOYM4APL2
(https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/118975/G930UUEU4APL2_G930UOYM4APL2_VZW/)
Would this be compatible?
G930UUEU4APL2 is the latest U-firmware. Everything flashes correctly, it won't trip KNOX, and it is super easy to go back to G930V firmware if you decide you want to send it back for warranty. You can't brick the phone by flashing signed files with Odin. The bootloader won't allow Odin to flash anything that could brick it.
I had already started replying before you posted above me. I'd recommend using my link to the firmware, as Sammobile downloads take FOREVER.
I see, I'm glad.
So, What would i need to make sure to do and not do in Odin 3.11.1?
AP/BL/CP/CSC from your zip? Just flash everything or only certain things?
Re-partition tick box? yes or no?
Flash all four of those files and DON'T CHANGE ANY Odin settings.
Okay. I just flashed it and now my phone repeatedly keeps booting into recovery.
The recovery logs and the red text at the bottom says:
dm-verity verification failed
Need to check DRK first...
Any ideas?
##PREVIOUS##
I think it might have to be because I used HOME_CSC rather than CSC.
What's the difference between both? Can i revert later?

@CVertigo1
I reflashed with the CSC file rather than the HOME_CSC file as according to your instructions in your thread (Latest G930U Firmware) and it worked perfectly fine!
KNOX is still at 0x0 and warranty void is fine.

No bloat, amazingly fast, and some features i like are present. I'll report back to your thread on the battery life when i get more time with it.
I appreciate your patience.
(Will post screenshots later).
Home_CSC doesn't wipe user data, which causes issues when swapping firmware. That's what caused your bootloop.
Followed this, today, was sick and tired of the damn Verizon bloat slowing the phone down.
The phone runs faster - notably faster.
After installing the SIM, the phone returns, "Your device will restart to configure features supported by the new SIM card."
And then" It's useless. If I hard-power reset it, and take out the SIM, it's viable - it's just useless otherwise.
Phone is a G930V, flashed to G930U.
Any Suggestions? The phone is *NOT* rooted, so I can't easily take out or rename the AutoPreconfig.apk package.. Argh.
Will I get the android nougat update on this ROM?
Just converted G930V to G930U, all 100% working here in the UK. Fully debranded and no verizon warning about sim change. perfect
Mind telling me what thread you used to find the latest firmware? This forum for the phone is so rarely used anymore, it's hard to tell what info to go even go on anymore.
Is PL2 the latest for 930U? I'm VZW but US, not UK
