Hello, anyone can help with this?? I have tried factory reset, install New Google photos app, but nothing helped with this battery drain by Google photos. I already freeze the app but i prefer another solution

Yup had the same problem. What I did is uninstalled the latest updated version from June 22nd (1.23.0.125579575) and installed from APKMirror the previous version (1.22.0.124168645). The wakelock went away.
However I just checked and a new version (1.23.0.125818713) want online on APK today and play store. I am downloading and will test it out.

No go with the latest Photos update... Do as I did install this version 1.22.0.124168645.

I'm having the same problem.
On the latest update, I gave the Photos app every permission listed in app info, rebooted, now the wakelock seems to have settled down. I'll keep an eye on it

I dont understand why this happens... With the latest update the wakelocks continue... Maybe will try previous version

Most google apps are not great for wakelocks. Plus they also tend to cause bugs with updates as much as they actually have good updates. I read as much about bugs with google apps as anything. I use very little google apps.

Interesting, you can go back years and find how Google play or Google services, Google music the list goes on about battery drains and wakelock issues. Good that you never has those issues.
I find 3rd part apps (you have to search for the good ones) tend to be better with battery drain and wakelocks. Apps such as textra, habit browser, gallery 3d, boxer email, esfile manager (v3.25) and Nova launcher to name some. With these apps I see awake times of about 1-1.5% outer hour usually.

Sorry to say but there are just as many bad 3rd party apps that cause wakelocks and battery drain. It's an OS problem. Something IOS doesn't have to contend with but at the same time they have very little going on in the background like Android apps do. I use a few of the apps you mentioned ie. Textra and Nova Launcher but I use Nine for email as well as Gmail. I like google Photos. All my photos are backed up for free. I can access them at any time on any platform with an internet connection. It is constantly improving as well.

Like said, you still have to search for the good 3rd party apps. So when a Google app is having issues, you can't get another Google app. Plus with Google also trying to pry every ounce of info from your phone at all times, I feel they cause those drains and wakelocks with all the data retrieval.
Also, I have 50gb of free Dropbox and I also have my photos stored locally on my PC which I can access either anytime I want as well. It's to each there own. Like I said didn't think many used very many of the Google apps. You hear a lot of people mention they want the minimal gapps

I understand. I've always liked the google apps and haven't had any issues. To each their own. I also have dropbox and icloud (for my mac and ipad), but prefer Google Drive and I love the Photos app.

lol..At this point every OS is trying to pry every ounce of info from every device with an internet connection. Don't kid yourself. It is just some are more subtle about it than offers. I use a VPN on my phone with a firewall and ad blocker. It isn't 100% but it is better than nothing.
Dropbox is ok but again I prefer Google Drive. Uploading photos and videos on Dropbox take forever on my phone or desktop. I also don't like how they arrange them. I actually don't hear a lot of people saying they want nothing to do with Google apps. You are actually the first person that seems so passionate about it.

I agree. I've only heard of one other who is a conspiracy theorist. I'm not concerned with the info that Google or anyone else collects. It anonymized and they aren't the only ones doing it, they're just the most upfront.
Google makes my life easier and more organized and I appreciate what they bring to the table. The Google Assistant and Google Now wouldn't be possible without keeping track of our info. I can't tell you how Google has saved my but by telling me I needed to leave for an appointment EARLIER than normal because of unexpected traffic or other delay.

ROFL, I'm not a conspiracy theorist. The info tracking was brought up for causing the heavy wakelocks and battery drains. Google is just the worst when it comes to info tracking that sometimes I think they get too aggressive and that's when you see battery drain and wakelock issues after some updates. I use a couple Google as well, just not many. I still use maps and Google calendar, but nothing else really.
So to me it's just less of a Hassel to sometimes having to find a 3rd party app when they have issues like photos is having lately

Simple performance gain for Xperia SP

Hi all,
Today I have accidentially discovered something that helped my Xperia a little bit.
I started to look into its lag and performance problems after playing for a while with my wife's Motorola Moto G.
By the way, Moto G is a small miracle I'd say.
So I started to investigate for potential source of problems for Xperia. Then... I disabled the "Google search" app (yes, that one on the top of main screen). And the phone works much, much better now !
This is no problem for me as I never used this search bar. But just to confirm, maybe others could also try out if it helps them, too ? It's easily reversible.
Even i did the same thing and it does really help. My phone is as smooth as it should be. Zero lags. And i love the xperia themes

Yeah, I agree, Google search (incl. Google Now) drains a lot of battery even when unused-it runs in the background. Also the Moto G is great, my bro and dad own it, I am thinking of getting it as well. :fingers-crossed:

Of course, since it has nothing to do with this app.
I disabled google search directly after I bought the phone. It runs extremely smooth especially with 4.3.
Google Search app is just for the widget, google now and all of the background stuff it brings - which is definitely a reason for slow devices and battery drain.

also, I didn't notice any improvement in perfomance disabling google search.... but I have no Google Play services drain or anything....

Questions about removing Google apps

I'm planning to root my Huawei P8 Lite and remove all Google apps. I have some questions about this.
Since I will be using the stock ROM which was designed to be used with Google apps, what are the implications of removing them?
For example, there are some entries in settings that concern Google apps (keyboard, location, search, etc.). What will happen to those after I remove all Google apps?
I have never used stock ROM without Google apps so far, only CyanogenMod without Google apps on my old phone.
Also, what would be the best way to remove Google apps? I have have one way (olivier-m on GitHubGist, can't post a link), but it seems that this list is for ICS and JB. Is that list valid for Lollipop?
Thanks for help.
You need to root and get a root unistaller.

Obviously you will have to find a way to get your apps and updates. Further you should ensure that you have a different keyboard than the google one activated prior to deletion as well as a browser besides chrome etc.
Also make sure to always do a full backup before trying stuff like this. If it shouldn't work you can still ask us for further advice and reflash your backup.

I already have all the alternative apps ready, I've been using F-Droid on my old phone for the last 2 years so that part is taken care of.
Thanks for the tip about the keyboard, I didn't know that. And of course, I will do a backup before trying anything.

It'd be cool if you could keep us up to date on your experiences, since I'm personally interested in this matter.
Nothing bad would happen. I personally keep only Play Store and Google Play Services. I don't need other Google crap such as News Stand, Play Books, Play Music, Gmail, Drive, Youtube and especially Play Movies, Hangouts and Photos. I keep Play Store to buy apps basically and Play Services for in game achievements

I will. My plan is to backup, root, uninstall Gapps and replace them with F-Droid + open source alternatives. I'm very busy though so it might take few days, just so you know.
Update: I gave up from removing Gapps for time being because I wasn't able to successfully root my phone. I will probably wait until the end of the year until there are more options available (rooting and ROMs). Until then, I disabled Gapps and I'm using alternatives from F-Droid.

I hope you're right. Of course, I'll make a backup just in case.
I have finally rooted my P8lite and went on a quest of removing Google apps and other bloatware. I removed every app with Google in its name and soft bricked my phone. Luckily I managed to restore it and now I'm trying again, more carefully.
I will consult these lists:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487073

http://androidforums.com/threads/bo...-de-bloat-your-boost-mobile-galaxy-s3.778877/
However, I would like input from someone knowledgeable on this subject because these lists are either not completely up-to-date not specifically for Huawei.

I rooted my phone and removed a lot of (system) apps and bloatware. I didn't make a list of all the apps I removed, but I can advice you to install Link2SD app and use the "Freeze" function for apps that you're unsure if they can be deleted. If you freeze the app and there's no strange behavior, it's probably safe to remove...
Hi Please help me, my google play store does not want to download anything, i tried factory restart and clearing the cache and clearing the data, but still not luck.

Google ending support for Android Market on Android 2.1 and lower

Thanks for posting this. I wondered when the final axe would fall. Well, it's simpler if GApps are not installed anyway and it was getting more and more temperamental. All the more reason for people to share packages of apps that they are using which work well on the device so we can side-load them. They can't take that away!
Does anyone know if this will affect the license check-in for paid apps? :/
Wondering about Titanium Backup Pro especially, it seems to check in on almost every boot. It would suck if we couldn't use it on the Nook Touch anymore, even though there are some clumsy alternatives.
Oops! Tried installing the 1337 ROM from 9th April 2015... No support for Android Market makes the rom unusable
Definitely backup your entire device + your original recovery before installing clockworkmod or 1337 ROM
I will now rever to stock and probably use Nook Manager to root the stock ROM.
Such a shame, I was super excited ot try out what seemed to be the best NST ROM out there
If it wasn't for ending the support for google apps, it might have been a great improvement, oh well...
Anyone with similar experience?

July 2 and I can still use SearchMarket and install market apps....wonder if working installations are going to continue hobbling along?
Seems like it's gone for me. The market search function at least. The gmail app still works though.
How would you go about unlinking the NST from a google account all together?
It's not registered in the google device manager online, so I can't unlink it there.
I'm worried that things will start to wrong now when the framework is not supported anymore.

I'm surprised your gmail works. I could never keep mine going. It would retrieve mail OK but would only send for a few days and then have to be reinstalled to work for a few more days.
The only concern I have is GoogleBooks, but so far it's OK. I'm not sure you need Market access to sync mail or books, but down the line these older applications may be rejected as security concerns. Time will tell.
So far I see no sign of weirdness.
Edit: OK, today (July 4) my NST is officially independent of the Market. No server contact. However, Google Books still works at this point. I'm not sure you should do anything. You could uninstall SearchMarket but that's about it. After all, lots of people are signed into Google on various devices to get mail but do not access the PlayStore. Famous last words
I have disabled both MarketUpdater.apk and Vending.apk (found in /system/app) by renaming them as *.OLD. After a reboot I have seen no problems running the few apps I had actually obtained from the PlayStore or those I side-loaded. Note I do not have any for-pay apps.
It may be possible to also disable Talk.apk and any adjuncts as this is used to interface with the Market, but I'm not there yet. A good goal would be to quiet down any behind-the-scenes activity by apps that can't connect any longer but keep trying to phone home just to be sure. At the same time I'm trying to maintain sync capability so that, for example, Google Books will continue to work for as long as possible. This, it seems to me, is the only remaining reason to bother with the GApps package at all since Google Sync is enabled with it.
Hello everyone. A few days ago i took my phone wich was lying around in the dust (x10 mini pro). Happily switched on, connected to internet and hit on market, just to realize this happened.
So, is there some market for 2.1-update? I was thinking about F-droid, but, how about this?

Google play services drain - Sensors?

Hi,
Don't know if it's related to OOs 5.0.1 but I noticed a quite important battery drain with Google play services (dirty flashed following a clean Oreo Flash).
I'm not sure but I think it may be due to motion sensors usage like you can see on the snapshot.
What I tried without success:
1/ Removed "Modify system settings" permission (Google play services)
2/ Installed AKT (X.A.N.A. battery extreme)
3/ EnableDozeForGMS through TWRP (doesn't seems to work on OOs)
4/ Removed following permissions for Google play services: "Body sensors" and "Microphone"
5/ Uninstalled (Titanium) GMail app
6/ Google settings > Getting around, deactivated "Google voice & Audio activity"
7/ Blocked all wakelocks on EXKM (Flash kernel)
Going to try:
8/ Reactivating aggressive Doze in battery options
9/ Sys Patcher Magisk module (force Doze for Google play services)
Thanks for your advice. [emoji846]

That's very weird. I have GSam battery monitor too and I don't have ANY sensor on Google play services. I have them all, exactly like you have posted, but on Android System.
What version of Google Play Services do you have installed?
It's probably because of the dirty flash. I used to experience similar problems so I stopped doing dirty flashes of OOS updates. I haven't had any weird battery drain issues since.

Yes that's weird!
I checked Android system, there's also same kind of sensor but there's a lot more usage on Google play services! (14h)
Google play services' version installed is: 11.9.51 (440-177350961)
I just tried to update Google play services to the latest beta version available from APK mirror (11.9.73).
Will see whether there's a benefit!

I'm also experiencing heavy Google Play Services wakelocks, especially net scheduler. The old fix using MyAndroidTools doesn't work for me on Oreo. Since Xposed is now out, we could try Amplify I guess.
Ok here. Just wipe the data of play services, and u are good to go!

I can confirm the MyAndroid tools trick isn't working on Oreo.
Will see if clearing data of Google play services works better, thanks for the advice.

I tried the app WakeBlock, and it worked perfectly!
For everyone suffering from related wakelocks, and didn't pay for Amplify/don't have Xposed, get WakeBlock from XDA or Playstore.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/wakeblock-blocking-drain-late-t3526313/page111
Updated OOs to Codename Phoenix (clean flash).
Problem solved, of course.
Is it true that when you block some wakelocks, appear some others?? And how can we stop google play services from waking the device? Its so annoying!!
You can see at screenshot that i haze zero wakelocks, cause i blocked them all with Wakeblock app. But still my device woke up 236 times in 2.45 minutes cpu time? What's going on?

You have accounts that needs to be synced all the time? Then they use Google cloud messaging or play services to access the internet. Since(I don't remember the exact version) android 4 or so no app can directly sync accounts without Google play services.
Just turn off "Backup my data" and problem solved for me
Does anyone have a fix that works for Non Root users? There does always seem to be some problem with android battery life in every other device I have used. Also why disable certain features when I was getting the same battery life with the pre installed OOS without disabling those features.
A smartphone is for productivity & if I always have to waste my time finding a fix for it I think I am better off with an IPhone next. Atleast the standby drain is nil, it uses battery when I use my phone as simple as that.

I have an iPhone 6s too and it drains a lot in flight mode and even when using it it's not better than then android. Accounts needs to be synced too in the background as well as location and you need to disable a lot out of the ios box before battery life on iPhone is better.
Now back to topic:
As I mentioned above, battery draining is a really individual thing which cannot be fixed by one click. There's a big battery guide which you should consider to read(if not known): https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884

Thanks will go through the guide. Then I guess the Smartphones aren't really that smart. Just charge it whenever the battery is low without worrying too much. Dash Charge is always there.

Sync contact images with FB / other social media and store as account info

I've got an S8, but this problem might be "Android generic" as well...
I've got one Exchange, one Google account. I'd like to sync the two, so that all my contacts are in BOTH places. While I was doing this, I also wanted to update the contact pictures with whatever my contacts have set up on social media (read: Facebook - Google automatically gets the Google Plus image if someone has an account there). Note that I want the pictures to be ACTUALLY stored as part of the contact information in a given account - not just displayed by the phone through some trickery.
Thus far I've had only limited success. I was able to copy the accounts using Contacts Organizer app (paid) and I used Sync.ME to get the latest social-media images. But while the Contacts Organizer allows me to merge the accounts nicely (there's some manual merging that needs to happen in Google Contacts at the end, but it's not that bad) and it even allows me to "copy" the contact information from Sync.ME (which contain a current picture), UNFORTUNATELY, the copying process seems to take picture miniatures, rather than full resolution images that are available. Obviously with Sync.ME installed and configured, the phone displays the high resolution pictures where available, but this information isn't actually saved - as soon as I remove Sync.ME the pictures vanish (and since the app displays ads, I'd rather not keep it around).
How do people update the contact pictures these days? I can't imagine people go around and take photos of each other all the time - I'd imagine people rely on social medial profiles of their friends for the latest selfies and such. Except that Facebook app no longer seems to synchronize contact information, so that leaves Sync.ME (which, in the end, is an add-filled product) or manually updating the images - which I don't believe people actually do. So... how do people manage the images? How can I sync these things up?
Search Google Play for "CoSy - Contact Sync ", I use it and it works like a charm!
i use Sync.me
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.syncme.syncmeapp&hl=ro
guys,
the sync problem between FB and Google (android) it's from FaceBook.
They blocked the android access to FB api's.
Hi,
Sync.me, as Eusuntflopi mentionned, works like a charm for me
Sync.me would only match about 20% of my contacts with facebook. CoSy matched 100% and even searched facebook for the people that I didn't have on my friends list. It also seems to save the pictures to my google account so if I remove the CoSy app, the pictures remain.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
Sync.Me was good, but it's a paid app and the free version was pretty annoying to use. Plus, it doesn't ACTUALLY place the photos on the contacts - it just adds another account to your device which has the photo information. CoSy actually adds the photos to the account data, which is what I was looking for. Thanks again!
Syncme sucks, i tried it. Theres an app called "contactsyncduck" i found online when i was searching for something that would work. Google search "FB app" and it should be under images. You can download straight from there. Cant miss it, it's a duck. Lol. Its the only thing that works. I just did it. Its a pain because it takes time to do. You have to get the fb profile id number of every contact and write it a special way in the note section of the contact. Make sure you delete any picture you have attached to your contacts before you sync or you wont see their fb profile pic. App is awesome, syncs everything. Works amazing, you just gotta be prepared to spend some time doing this. Totally worth it, i swear! I have an android phone so im not sure if it works with iphone. Good luck! Read the instructions in the "about" section of the app and follow them. Will not work otherwise, its not automatic. Good luck!
CoSy did the trick for me. I will continue to utilize it and see if it holds out over multiple days/weeks.
I've been using the Sync.me app but recently it hasn't updated the contact pic even though it has a matched up FB profile.
Going to switch to Cosy and see how that works out.

I have been using Cosy for the past month or so. Woke up this morning and got a warning from Play Protect to uninstall it because it was a harmful app. Said it was trying to access my SMS, call history, etc. I notice it is no longer in the play store. Anyone else get this? Any other apps that work like it does?

Same here! It actually started last night with that "harmful app" notification. I can't find it in the play store either.
It was probably pulled for some reason... I'm hoping it's something simple and it'll be back up on the play store.
I'm gonna wait out a couple days and see. Maybe email the developer.

Looked up the developer and he posted an update on his website.
He's in contact with Google, back and forth, apparently because they think his app is "spying".
Developer explains not so.

Hope they can get this sorted with Google as the app seems to work far better than Sync Me.

Following for updates. I love CoSy! Hope they can get it sorted out. Glad to know they are in contact. Just have to deal with the annoying alert for now.

Since it's not on the google play store you would probably have to find the apk file to install on your own.

It took some time and nothing, silence ..... the application's author has not updated the blog entry.
The GP with PlayProtect still wants to remove applications that are dangerous.
