When I enable this feature in power saving mode, it disable some background data while it ignores other. It stop things like Spotify, while things like Facebook Messenger is still receiving messages. Anyone know why?
I asked a similar question a while back, and got no answer other than some Google apologists saying it's supposed to work the way it does. It seems to work for some apps, but not all. My guess is the app has to be coded to respect the setting, and Facebook doesn't respect anything.

Hi all - new to this forum so apologies if the question has been posed already. I couldn't find a similar thread.
I've been having consistent trouble since getting my VZW Droid 2 in September with the phone not delivering important things like emails, text messages, Google chat messages and WhatsApp messages after long periods of screen inactivity (ie. an hour).
I'll turn on the screen and unlock it, then it goes and fetches those important messages like "I'm on fire - please come put me out now!". Suddenly I'll go from zero notifications to 10 of each.
I am using K9 mail, WhatsApp, Handcent SMS, Gmail, Twitter and all seem to be affected by this.
I checked all my settings, and it's not set up to sync only on wifi or anything, and each application is set up so that it should be sync'ing in the background.
I thought 2.3.20 was supposed to fix this issue, so I made sure to update the phone. However, I'm still having issues. I know I did some things to optimize the paltry battery life when I first got the phone, but can't find anything that should be causing this - and can't remember everything I did.
VZW's answer was to do a full factory reset, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible because I'm too lazy to put everything back the way I have it.
Advice?
Thanks
Try:
Settings > Battery Manager > Battery Settings and making sure its not set to anything other than performance mode as anything else will do exactly as you are describing.
I know custom ROMs may also cause issues.
Hello everyone.
So first of all I love this phone, the speed, the capabilities and especially the battery life.
What I don't feel is tied to just this phone is me not being able to get facebook notifications. I get a notification if I receive a new message but that's all.
This happened on my Note 3 as well. I have logged in on a friends phone into my facebook account and the same thing. I do not get any notifications. I even used the old method of trying to log in on a blackberry and that didn't work either.
What I have noticed in Facebook Account settings is that I can not check on "group post or comments" under my notification settings.
I'm thinking it's some old app that I used on another phone that stopped this from working but I could be wrong. I have tried to turn off app on the platform setting and still nothing works.
All I receive now is the number of notifications "number" on the Facebook app icon. Don't shoot me but I like getting the actual notifications from Facebook to my phone to alert me.
Does any of you kind souls have an idea to how I can fix this? Or something you have tried that got your notifications working again.
I know about some third party apps but that's not what i'm looking for if I can help it.
Any help or ideas help.
Thank you
Is anybody with the S7 or S7 edge on Sprint having problems with various apps delivering push notifications late or not at all? I've noticed this specifically with apps like CNN and Reuters but also with a neighborhood app called "Nextdoor" that I use. I will get a notification about a message 10-15 minutes after I already received and checked it on the web version on my computer. I came from an S5 and never had anything like this before. Is this perhaps the power saving feature that suppresses background app activity? I would think it wouldn't do that for apps I very frequently use. No issues with text messaging notifications or anything directly related to the carrier.
Also - these have all been while on WiFi vs mobile data. It's really the only negative thing I've found so far. I am getting great battery life and standby drain.
Thanks!
I've noticed this only very rarely. For the most part push notifications come through instantly for me.
I think it has something to do with power saving feature, when enabled.
I was missing my Gmail notifications.

It's happening really frequently for me. I will have to try adjusting my power saving functions.

Happening with a lot of apps for me - but mainly FB Messenger and Gmail. With FB Messenger the orange notification number on the app itself will display but I never get a sound/vibrate or notification bar notification. With Gmail it's like my email is not syncing but once every few hours instead of pushing notifications (my notification settings are fine).
I will have to try to mess around with the power saving function.
Having the same issue S7. No notifications from WhatsApp, FB messenger etc. It seems like when the screen goes off it also turns internet off as each time I open the FB messenger it displays a message that it's connecting... not sure how to go from here :/ tried application manager options already
Yep, quite a few apps for me are affected. Using the stock settings for power settings, but I guess I'll have to play around to find which setting is causing this.
I checked and I have all power saving options disabled, so that can't be it...
If I have Power Saving on I miss all notifications until I open the specific app. Samsung changed it, hate it now I have to use my phone without Power Saving!

I have power saving turned off, but still have this problem.
Hello!
Does anyone have any insight for me? I use an android wear smart watch and I want to use the default email and sms programs on the S7e. The problem is that if I get a text message or email through those default programs and then I swipe it left (which dismisses it) the phone itself still retains the notification and acts like I have not read it.
If I use gmail or inbox and also google's s no issue. The problem is that to take advantage of the edge functionality I need to use the default apps.
can anyone provide a way to make it so my android watch can dismiss notifications on my phone?
I'm curious about this as well. Getting tired of having to manually clear the notification.

Within the android wear app itself I decided to disable phone notifications when connected to my watch... that is a temp fix I guess but I think there has to be a better way
Hi all
I have searched everywhere and I can't find anybody else with this issue... I surely can't be the only one...?
Since updating my Nexus 6P to Oreo I appear to have some apps not show a notification icon or anything in my notification drop down menu. My phone will vibrate as normal but my screen will not show any notifications...
This happens for Outlook (I will receive a normal notification and email preview on my Huawei watch running 2.0 but nothing at all on phone apart from its vibration), FotMob (a goal alert service if anyone is unfamiliar with it) and even push notifications on Facebook (to name a few). WhatsApp and text messages, for example, are working as normal.
I have reset all my notification and permissions settings TNA and even uninstalled and reinstalled the troublesome apps. Same result
Is this just apps not being fully supported for 8.0 or is this a different issue?
I really don't want to resort to a factory reset...
Thanks in advance
The most important thing i hate about Oreo .. is that Power notification control is missing the is so important for me!!

How were the apps installed? If you restored them through Titanium Backup, the device id for GCM push notifications will be wrong.
Uninstall, clear cache, then install the app from the play store.
Hi krs360
The apps were installed through play store. I am running fully stock, unrooted Android 8.0
Thanks
I have the same problem. Gmail is set to blink the notification light - but it doesn't! Argh!

There is something sketchy about oreo notification. Sometimes the LED simply doesn't blink at all , sometimes it simply blink very very slow.
Aquamail works fine
Gmail also doesn't pop up with a notification when the screen is off. But aqua mail does, and the notification light also works.
I think I found the answer to this. Basically it's a change in the SDK that requires the app author to fix. (I know, I just discovered the same problem in apps I wrote.)

Nothing quite so heartbreaking than to find a singular post/thread on the internet from someone having the same issue as you, only to discover that no solution has been posted and that it's old.
For what it's worth, having the same exact issue. Phone updated OTA a few weeks ago, and at first I was having the battery drain issue but that seemed to get fixed during the patch update, but now I've noticed that Outlook Calendar reminders, as well as Facebook Messenger App Notifications (new messages) no longer make a sound and/or show up as a notification on my phone. This is extremely annoying/difficult especially with Outlook as I have a really terrible time keeping things straight or organized, so I rely pretty heavily on the calendar reminders I set in it for daily/weekly/monthly things.
I could be wrong but I think it's related to notification lights.I wasn't getting anything until I turned it on and suddenly I was.
Hi,
Has anyone come across the solution for this issue? I have had it for over a month now and I really don't understand what the issue could be.
same issue with OREO (ZUK Z2 PRO)
also cannot edit permissions because it doesn't handle a device with plenty apps installed (+800) it hangs and crash / go back to main menu without letting you edit anything in options
