I have an S4 i9505, UK model. For a few months I have been running VirginROM on the phone with amazing results. Updating to 4.4 leaves me with signal dropout. The VirginROM was designed for T-Mobile S4s in the US, and so the community doesn't support my model. Here's their advice:

A. For T-Mobile users, please follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544612
If you are an International or ATT user, please ask your respective modem/baseband thread maintainers for assistance with choosing the correct .bin files

I am unsure what baseband I need to update to using ODIN, as I don't want to screw my phone. Here are the list of possible modems. Can anyone help? Here's my phone's about screen

i'll try and offer some assistance here. thanks for posting in Q/A!
@therourke
edit: sorry didn't read your entire post.
okay, so you have signal drop out.
this means you need the new GSM part baseband from an international 4.3 TW ROM.
you also need to locate the old LTE part baseband from an international 4.2.2 TW ROM
to explain further...
you need the NON-HLOS.bin from the last 4.2.2 International TW firmware
you need the modem.bin from the latest 4.3 International TW firmware.
then, using Odin, follow the instructions in the thread. for step 4 of the instructions, you will be flashing NON-HLOS.bin here instead.
maybe @DjeMBeY would be so kind as to give you those files because you can't pull them from the Odin tar if i'm remembering correctly.

hoping he can get them to you. if not, you'd just have to let me know which of those was your last 4.2.2 and which is your current 4.3 and i can pull them apart via Linux. just takes a bit of time and i'm a little busy for that at the moment
Thanks for posting the question therourke, I am super keen to find the answer to this question too. I am currently on Virgin 4.3 with XXUBMG4 and have no idea what I need to flash to get Virgin 4.4 working.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated!
I had 4.4 working fine using MJ7. Using the GPE edition. Just try any modem MJ5 and above.

Thanks for the advice so far, @mrvirginia and @nikzDHD
I might almost be there with this. But still not confident
My phone was originally this setup:
GT-I9505 Galaxy S 4 LTE
PDA: I9505XXUEMJ8
CSC: I9505EVREMJ2
MODEM: I9505XXUEMJ8
But when I first got it I flashed I9505XXUAMDM onto it because at the time that solved a problem when flashing Omega ROM. I think this means that my NON-HLOS.bin is already 4.2.2 then? I can't get *#1234# to work - it just failed every time - but my about screen indicates I have an I9505XXUAMDM phone.
All modems for i9505 can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
Both the 4.3 and 4.2.2 firmwares for my region - BTU - are here: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9505
I just flashed the modem.bin from XXUEMJ9 and left NON-HLOS.bin as it is. I am going to retry 4.4 tomorrow and will let you know how it turns out.
EDIT: Have now tried with I9505XXUDMH8 NON-HLOS.bin and modem XXUEMK8, which seems to work. Trying to avoid random shutdowns.
All modems can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
Go into settings, about phone, baseband will tell you exactly what modem your on.
Read the intro of that thread to identify what you need. I'm in the UK too and use the XX modems, but any modem will work for the I9505.
MJ5 onwards are 4.3 modems.
Mine for example:
I'm on the XX MJ7 4.3 modem. MJ7 was a uk release modem.

Have done this. Thanks. Am now on MJ9 modem. Will try 4.4 again tomorrow and if still having problems I will report back. Fingers crossed this solved it.
Thanks for the replies guys. The whole thing started to make sense after reading through this. I had the 4.2.2 stock firmware for Telecom (NZ) on my machine so unpacked that and grabbed the NON-HLOS.bin file. Then checked SamMobile for the 4.3 stock for Telecom and grabbed the modem.bin out of that. Flashed both via Odin and job done.
Thanks!

this never worked for me. when i tried flashing just the modem.bin, it never stuck. i had to flash NON-HLOS.bin (from latest 4.2.2 TW) and then modem.bin (from T-Mobile 4.3 TW) for it to stick.
question for you all, are you on an old 4.2.2 TW baseband right now?

High Fives all around. I think I have solved it.
Using Odin 3.07 I loaded the NON-HLOS.bin from I9505XXUAMDM and the modem.bin from I9505XXUEMJ9. Sound is working and I have reception.
To help out others in my situation - I have an i9505 international S4 UK - I have put the files mentioned above in this dropbox folder. I hope they work for you, but cannot accept any responsibility if you screw things up. Good luck @sinister1981 and others!
Thanks again to @mrvirginia, @nikzDHD. I hope this thread is useful. I will report back if I find any problems.
UPDATE: I was getting occasional reboots with the combination above. I flashed 9505XXUDMH8 NON-HLOS.bin and XXUEMJ9 modem.bin and that seems to be working better. You can find them here
You can use any I use 4.2.2 baseband and zero problems

Just to add, I'm on baseband I9505DXUBMG5 (S4 International LTE) and I'm using @jamal2367 4.4 S4 GE together with @faux123 latest 4.4 kernel and I have zero problems (no restarts, bootloops) But my set gets heat up pretty quick. Not sure why. Would be great to know if there are any benefits in upgrading.

My device is running pretty well. I think random shutdowns are due to WidgetLocker, so I disabled.
I was still getting phone shutdown errors upon boot, so I installed the newest Faux kernel hoping that might solve the issue, but they remain. I will stay with this setup for a while since the boot-up errors are not too bad. I might try some slightly different modem combinations if the problem continues.

well, a quick me-too plus thanks-all reply. I also have witnessed the broadband issues, and solved them thanks to this post.
I am currently running baseband version I9505XXUEMK9 flashed with heimdall under GNU/Linux and before that I was running the original I9505XXUBMEA baseband. The phone have been bought in France and the operator is Free Mobile.
I fetched I9505_WiFi_FIX_MDM.rar and I9505XXUEMK9_MODEM.rar from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025 (do NOT flash with K9 NON-HLOS or you will have sound issues!)
And installed them using the instructions of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317311
i.e. :
[put phone in download mode]
Code:
$ sudo heimdall flash --APNHLOS NON-HLOS.bin
[phone reboots, shutdown and get back to download mode]
Code:
$ sudo heimdall flash --MDM modem.bin
[phone reboots]
Enjoy working baseband!

The Note 3 efs partition doesn't contain nv_data. All Note 3 are like that.
You say you upgraded to Kitkat, but the details you listed are of JB.
Did you flash a CM based ROM?

I think I need an stock rom or? I need 4.4 for XEF (France/Europe)

Did you try flashing that zip over the NA6 ROM?
That zip has helped out many people. And frankly, I don't think there are many ways of restoring a corrupt EFS partition.

Yeah but I need the box or?
I think it´s not so easy or cheap to get it in germany.
If you lose IMEI the EFS fire script won't repair it, it'll make it worse. French region devices have had issues as have NEE and HK - Install CWM or TWRP (you lose warranty) then go to wipe and wipe out /system --
Put your phone in download mode, and flash a STOCK ROM NB4 (German DBT) will do and grab a PIT file from one of the threads around here (DBT OTA thread I think has it HSD-Pilot posted it). load up the PIT file and the ROM .md5 - tick re-partition and hit start.. it'll rebuild your EFS - If that doesn't work, you'll need to ADB via terminal and do some trickery to restore your IMEI from your box. There is a tutorial in the forum for it.

Edit:

Where is the adb tutorial. I found a few but they say I need to dial *#7248# or something like that and choose ....... but there isnt somethin like that.

What now?
IMEI is still NULL/NULL

I was on MM temporarily, then used the return to stock tool to go to 5.1.1. I flashed the non-hlos.bin modem file and everything worked fine. ]
Now i flashed a stock 6.0 ROM and my wifi is not working. I assume there is a similar modem file i need to flash for MM, but couldn't find it after searching around (i saw one post that i think might have referenced it, but the link was dead and i wasn't sure it was MM anyway).
I looked inside the modem folder of the ROM itself, but nothing seemed obvious to me. Any ideas on a file or a zip i need to flash? (sorry if this is elsewhere, i did search)
I found all modems in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3272486

I still don't know what file i'd be extracting. Would i just be looking for another NON-HLOS.bin file?
As for why not flash the entire ROM (a good question):
1) I am not currently rooted, and for some reason (i can't really tell you why) was trying to avoid rooting this time around.
2) I have been fighting getting a ROM to install for about 2 weeks. After finally having some luck yesterday, i have everything mostly configured now and kind of just want to leave this as is for a bit.
But, if that's what it takes, I'll be rooting and flashing again.

Hi community!
First time posting.
So, my SM-G900I (shipped from Taiwan to Aus) recently started bootlooping so i decided to reflash a stock rom. I initially flashed an XSU version of the G900I stock and then a BRI version of stock. This didnt remove the bootloop. I then installed TWRP and cleared all the necessary caches, formatted data and everything else. still in bootloop.
I installed CM13 in TWRP install menu and it still didnt boot. I've also tried pulling the battery for extended periods of time. I dabbled in terminal commands but it was all a bit above me!
is there anything else i can do or is the phone dead? it can still enter download mode and TWRP. is this a battery problem? in TWRP the battery says it's 80% charged so it seems to hold charge.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers.
Did you try flashing the stock rom and PIT file with ODIN?

I did. 16GB G900I pit file was flashed alongside BL, AP, CP, and CSC files (got directly from Kies).
I am able to install a custom recovery and access those menus but i can't get in to the stock recovery menu.

Hi!
Thanks for the quick response but there are none there for G900I models. Just a question, how do these differ from manually putting in pit, AP, BL, CP and CSC seperately?
cheers.

Download update to samfirmwar it is 1 package file home tar md5 put on PDA and flash make sure download correct firmware of your country region
best way : download samsung kies, go to download mode on your phone, connect it to pc, open samsung kies, go to tools->firmware update settings, this will update your phone to latest firmware fixing any software related problem. after that you can root and flash any custom rom.
Gratz

Hi man, Congratz. I'd like to know which version did you download? Because I also have Taiwan version but is not in the list, just India and Australia options.
Thanks for your help.
