Owned a gnex for a long time and now have the nexus 4. The nexus 4 is better. Feels better in quality and seems to run smoother. Don't worry about the complaints your hearing. I think it is paranoia. The gnex has issues as well. Overall nexus 4 is a better phone in my opinion.

It's like the iPhone craziness allover again. Get the Nexus 4 mate.. don't listen to rumors. Every single guy who has it says it's the fastest Android he used in UI/Games/Launching Apps... the rest don't have it an act like they already have issues because they red some reviews of pre-release units.
Stop caring about benchmarks. It's clearly something in the new 3.4 Nexus 4 kernel is different and in Android 4.2. As stated before the system could break the tests speed in order to maintain the overall device running. And it's not the first time Benchmarks apps don't work properly<<< Which all make lots of sense.
It has the best hardware available... why even consider last's year device? And the battery is considerably worse on the Gnex although it has a smaller CPU and Memory.
Think about the amount of development that will be put in this here on XDA. Many of the small issues will be covered in 3-4 months and custom ROMS/kernels will pop up like crazy...
Think about this ^^^^. If it does not make sense.... i don't know what does.
Been using the Nexus 4 fo a few days and I like it a lot better than my Galaxy Nexus. I haven't had any issues (rattling or yellow screen). Phone is smooth...even fully loaded up.
You can't even get the GNexus for that cheap anyways...for some reason buying off local classifieds, people think they can make 300+ on a GNexus. I say just wait it out and get the Nexus 4 if you're only deciding between the two (I couldn't bother waiting after that frustration Google calls a launch, and got myself a pretty Lumia 920 instead )
The Nexus 4 is better!

I think we'd be worried if it wasn't
Had a GNex, now a N4. The N4 is worlds better. My only hangup is that doesn't feel as good in my hand as my GNex did but that could just be something I will grow to get used to.
I got both and I like the Nexus 4 better. Smoother and has a better screen.
Is anyone here upgrading their nexus 4 to a nexus 5? Why or why not?
NOOOO..
1- nexus 4 , still has the top tier hardware , only smapdrgon 800 , Apple A7(gpu is stronger , cpu is weaker) and tegra 4 chipset are above it , s600 is slightly faster with same gpu..
2- nexus 4 hardware to software compatibility is really good , qualcomm wont abandon s4pro like, TI did for omap ..so software isnt a problem ..
3- personal reason , bought nexus 4 just a few months back , so i still love it , really like the glass , however n5 desing is also good , but if you try to sell n4 and n5 to some person without telling the hw specs , hell definately pick n4
... but still most people want top most hardware .. its ur choice
No, phone is buttery smooth, blazing fast, has a great community, always latest android version, still one of the best phones so no reason to upgrade for me.

i traditionally always purchase the newest nexus phone to be released... however, i feel that this time the upgrades are only marginal. sticking with my nexus 4.
I am keeping the N4 but I get my N5 Tuesday, so I will have and use both.
Using the N4 for GSM and the N5 for CDMA.
Gsm costs me $5 a month
CDMA $0 a month
I will be upgrading, as the camera is very important to me. The N4's camera while better than any previous phone I had, is pretty bad compared compared to the N5 from the samples I've seen. 1080p video was also horrible, especially the sound! If it weren't for the camera, I would probably keep the N4 as performance is great (unless you like games).
Got my nexus 4 2 weeks ago and is the best phone I've owned.. No reason to get the 5

No, I'll certainly wait until the next nexus (nextus? ). The difference between the 4 and the 5 just isn't big enough for me. And the 4 is still more than good enough because of the reasons stated above (also, I think the camera of the nexus4 is good if you know how to use it, xda has lots of examples).
Its just that the past generations were really leaps apart, the n5 and the n4 aren't.

well from the nexus 4 and 5 theirs not much new the newest thing is the android 4.4 which will be coming for the nexus 4 im going to wait .
Earlier post of me playing devil's advocate:
" This is absolutely the worst purchase a man can make.
Fellowmen, we are nearing the 3 score mark on the age of mobile phones. Is it too much to ask for basic things like week 2 day battery, or signal in buildings? How many lives must the farmer slain before the suits comprehend my pain? How elementary is it that demand is there for quality, but yet no one steps up to the plate?
This wreck of a device is exhausted with thermal issues, rinky dink speakers, and a camera worse than my ancestor's Polaroid. What is the world coming to when 4 cores lag?
Why, why is my agony ignored and embellished in the bliss of the sheep? O, I ask thy name be reverberated to clicks of fine course treats."
Hopefully this post will convince everyone to be innate with haste for the time being, for we know not the status of the supply chain.

I don't think im getting the Nexus 5, I bought the 16 gig Nexus 4 in mint condition off Kijiji for $180 just back in June, and its still a beast and I like the glass design. Looks more premium compared to the matte finish on the Nexus 5.
Nope.

Biggest reason in for me to upgrade is LTE ! (at&t)
Secondary reason would be a camera upgrade. Comparing pics of the two devices, the bezel looks so similar. Once 4.4 hits, the translucent notification bar and menu bar will make the screen real estate look HUGE on the Nexus 4.
Honestly the nexus 4 is still a sweet device, just wish it had LTE.
I suppose I would enjoy the better camera, but I have had my Nexus 4 for almost a year and have had little to complain about the camera, or just about anything else for that matter.
My only real beef is the cell reception... I get better with my old RAZR, especially when holding it. I ordered a Nexus 5 with the thought of trying Sprint via Ting to see if I get better service than T-Mobile, but I have seen remarks that Ting won't be able to activate it. I am rarely in an LTE service area so no benefit there.
So here I sit, on the fence so to speak... wondering if I should open the box when it arrives. Wondering if I'll be able to activate it on Ting... or if the radios will be any better on my existing T-Mobile service, and just how much better the camera and speakers are, and of course how many new device/OS glitches there may be to put up with.
Starting with the Nexus 4. I just don't see a reason for upgrading. It's been a great phone and it's getting updated. With no new innovations coming down the line (from anyone) I think I'm going to stick around for a while.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger for the N5 because of the 1080p screen and LTE.
I'm absolutely getting the nexus 5. I've had my nexus 4 from day one, and I've lived every minute of having it (still do). But in my opinion, the nexus 5 is leaps and bounds better. It's an all around upgrade. I purchased 2 of them
Got shipping notification early this morning so hopefully they'll be here on Monday or Tuesday.

I have the four and also bought the 5 - although some say the hardware updates are marginal, having LTE without modding or hybrid radios will be nice.
will be keeping both N4 and N5 in my daily use rotation since they are both awesome phones.
Well, I am literally just sharing that I am so happy with my purchase of the N6.
I came from the note 3 and before that all my phones were Samsung's. I ALWAYS rooted, and then installed an AOSP ROM. I have always LOVED straight android without all the crap. So I decided since the N6 had a big enough screen I would make the switch. I thought I would lose the better picture quality, but I was wrong.
I love that I get straight updates from google, I love the battery life, I love that I don't even need to flash a new ROM everyday. I have rooted my phone running 5.1(e) build, and installed the mod pack in the themes and apps forum so that I can switch the nav bar layout, enable battery percentage, and enable double tap to wake. I literally have nothing else I need to do to get this phone to where I want it.
Kinda sad that I don't have to flash new Roms all the time because I get bored...but that is not really a complaint.
All in all, best phone I have EVER owned....and I have owned a LOT.
Sorry for a boring post, but thought I would share my feelings.
Exactly same feel here. Very impressed with Nexus 6.
Though I've not rooted my device yet, but I heard Franco kernel is really impressive. Did you tried that?
I haven't tried Franco kernel, thought about leankernel, but trying to see how battery is with my newly installed 5.1e build. When I do, I will update this
Give Franco a try. You will not be disappointed. His kernel and the 5.1 update are killer together.

again this is just my opinion. both are great phones if you will use the touchpen and the other Samsung features then you will be better off with the note 4. I like pure android ( which you can also get on the note 4 with root and custom rom ) the nexus 6 has about the same footprint as the note 4 it has a bigger screen which I really like. I still have many Samsung products - 7.7 / 12.2 / note 3, and the note 4 which I am selling now - but if I had to choose between the note 4 and the nexus 6 it would be no question for me nexus 6 all the way
Coming from note 3 & found nexus 6 good but not best. I still love Samsung. Samsung do smooth out any bugs stock nexus leave.
For example lots of people complain about nexus 6 battery life, cracking noise in google voice search & ringtones, high intensity vibrations, pink screens etc. My note 3 also running Android L with 7 hours screen on time compared to just 3-4 hours on nexus 6.

Awesome. I'm on a note 3 now wanting to make the jump. Been waiting since the phone came out.
Might sound like a dumb question, but are all the Roms universal? I'm on sprint, so would I need sprint only Roms? I don't see seperwte sections like other phones have.

All Roms are universal, as long as your are running the correct boot loader. But even that hasn't kept us from running anything. Great phone. Gonna try Franco kernel cause right now I am only getting 4 hours screen on...stock rooted, stock kernel.
Off to download Franco. Thanks everyone for participating!
My last 3 devices have all been nexus devices. Nexus 6, Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus. Did consider the Note 4 but to be honest have never been disappointed with Googles Vision. Its like my cars! Last few have all been jaguars. If it ticks your boxes, why take the chance for disappointment!

Galaxy nexus.....horrible
To those of you that have had / have both a note 4 (preferably exynos for this comparrison) and a nexus 6, how do you find they compare on signal strength, particularly in areas where coverage is not all that good?
I have a note 4, and I find it slightly worse than my nexus 5 for signal strength. .. this is making me think of selling it for a n6
Chalk up another one in the "loving this phone" category. I was still on S4 and waiting for the S6, but when I realized Verizon was about to release the Nexus I had to give it a try. I was concerned about the size a little at first but once I started using it, it's a good thing. I find it much easier to type on, and just use in general. It's beautiful, snappy, and smooth as silk.
Same here, long time Samsung user that switched to the nexus side of things.
Had the s1/s3/s4/note2/note3 and when the new nexus was announced to be a 6 inch beast I couldn't resist either.
Love the dual speaker setup, the screen itself and the fact that instead of 258 apps installed on device it's 128 now (yay for bloat free awesomeness) battery life is pretty good for me and if all fails just hook it up to that big turbocharger for some quick charge juice.
This phone makes me feel the same as when I had my note 2 (note 2 is my fav note in the series imo)
I can safely say I don't miss my note 3 which was my daily phone before this one.
Has anyone received the Nexus 6P that already had the Note 5?
I was wondering which one you liked more, and why?
I have them both, just received my 6P. The Note 5 has the edge right now because of its multitasking capabilities. I have to use it more before being more definitive.

That is called multiwindow. And nexus 6p has it better because it works with every app. Note 5 has better camera and feels more premium. It is a boring device that will never take full advantage of hardware because of ****ty software code that Samsung puts in it.

Had a at&t note 5 for 3 weeks before getting my nexus 6p and the nexus 6p is more so the right phone for me ....the front facing speakers are great like my old nexus 6 but even better , the software experience on the nexus is more fluid than the note 5 , the note 5 does have a brighter display , the note 5 does have a slightly better camera but both are great! , battery life so far is better on the nexus 6p, never had ram issues with my note 5 so multitasking is about even even besides the dual window option's on the note , you get more storage on the nexus out of the box 25gb usable on the nexus only had around 20gb usable on the note....i don't seem to miss the s pen much nor do I miss wireless charging....but to sum it up both phones are great

I wouldn't go as far to say all of that. However, it is true Samsung handicaps what can be done by the device. Hardly any useful apps can be used to multitask I just came from the note 4 and I'll tell you that I'd ditch multitasking and all of tw features in a heartbeat for this phone. Plus I don't like the way Samsung is designing their new phones. Hate the metal design time and time again plastic has been the better material, no removable back or SD port. They killed off the main reason why I would even buy a Samsung flagship over the nexus line. And this is someone who has had every note except the 5 and had the s1 and 2.
*edit
I've never felt the note 5 to be premium. I prefer the note 4 over the 5 build quality and the camera is better on the 6p.
It's just my opinion, multi-window is true multitasking. You don't necessarily have to hide one app to use the next one. That's the same thing the iPhone uses.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Well, since I just sold my Note 5 for the 6P, I guess my answer would be the 6P.
I just got it today, so my experience with the 6P is somewhat limited but here are my thoughts (I'll leave the price difference out of it, but that's obviously a huge factor as well):
The Note 5 is probably the BEST phone on the market right now, period. Features, power, design, it has everything. Everything except being a Nexus and running stock Android. This means the 6P has a noticeably smoother and, in my opinion, better UI. The Exynos CPU is undoubtedly faster. This is most noticeable when launching apps. The Note 5 will definitely beat the 6P there. That said, would you even notice if you didn't have them side by side? Probably not. The Snapdragon 810 is no slouch and nothing feels slow when you're using the phone. So to me, the Note 5 has an overall negligible edge on power when it comes to actual use. As for the multitasking capabilities mentioned above, unless you mean the split screen which usually seemed like little more than a gimmick to me, the multitasking is pretty bad on the Note 5. It has an extra GB of memory, and yet it still constantly kills apps. Hopefully Samsung tweaks that more with future updates because I feel the 6P probably has the advantage in multitasking at the moment.
The Note 5 also has a slightly better screen. They say they are the same panel, but I suspect either Huawei gets the slightly lower quality screens of the two, or Samsung still has some tricks up their sleeve to optimize their own screen, or probably a little of both. That would explain the number of screen complaints on the 6P while the panel is still relatively new to production. Again, assuming you don't get a pink screen like some, the screen still looks every bit as good for the most part. I can't imagine anyone complaining about a good 6P screen. Samsung has a brightness setting called The Face of the Sun which I don't miss forgetting to turn back to adaptive before looking at the phone in the middle of the night. I haven't really used the phone when it was really bright outside yet, so I can't say for sure if I miss the extra brightness there, but again I have no complaints about the 6P.
The camera is also better in the Note 5, but the 6P's is pretty damn good too, and if you care that much, get a real camera and stop trying to take pictures on your phone. That's pretty much the end of that discussion for me. The main reason I got the Note 5 was because Samsung finally designed a nice phone again, but again, the 6P feels equally premium. In fact, while I respected the design of the Note 5 and wanted to like it, I kind of didn't. Something about the feel of it just never felt quite right to me. I still think a glass back on a phone is stupid, just like it was when Apple did it and learned their lesson. I very much like the look and feel of the 6P, especially the Frost version that I have. The back of the Note 5 is too rounded and it makes the already slippery glass back feel like a bar of soap in your hand. Oh, and one last feature that was actually pretty important to me on the Note 5 was the wireless charging. Too bad it doesn't work half the time.
Now, onto the 6P. Like I said, the 6P has more than enough processing power, a more than good enough camera and screen (again assuming a good one), and a fantastic design and feel. Remember that sinking feeling you got when that first 6P pic leaked? It's light years better in person. I really do like the design of this phone. It reminds me of my One which was one of my favorite phones. Being that we are all here on XDA, the advantage of the 6P is that it DOESN'T have the Exynos processor. I had the Note 5 less than a month and was already getting annoyed that I would never be able to have anything but the stock software or small mods on top of it. Touchwiz was incredibly better since I last saw it, but it's still pretty ugly, in particular the notification drawer in the Note 5 really bugged me compared to stock Android. Because of all this, the smoothness of the 6P makes it feel like a faster device during normal use. You'd never know it was a little slower without having them side by side. And of course, there's always the time difference in receiving updates. Sure you'll get Marshmallow on the Note 5, and probably pretty soon. But every update after that will start getting more questionable and probably slower as other phones become their priority.
So in conclusion/tl;dr, they are both at the very top of the list of best phones on the market. The speed differences aren't something you'd ever even know most of the time without directly comparing them, and you'd be forgiven to think the 6P might even be faster. They both top the list in nearly every category. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in either phone. If you value any of the Samsung specific bits like the stylus, then the Samsung is for you. If you value the ability to modify the software on your phone and receive updates as soon as they are available, the 6P is for you. If you have either, consider yourself lucky to have one of the best phones on the market. I switched because I wanted to be able to use real ROMs and kernels, not just the tease you get with an Exynos device, and I wanted updates ASAP, even as previews. I suspect most people who are here on XDA probably value this as well, which is fairly evident by the fact that a month newer device has WAY more activity on here.
Dude I was scared to do the switch. The 6P MURDERS the note 5 (in my opinion).
Don't be scared if you're on the same boat, or at least try it and if you don't like it, just send it back.

If I had to be honest with myself I'd have to say my battery heats up from time to time and all the Knox bs drives me crazy.. I have been considering getting the 6p and giving my mom my note 5 so it stays in house and I can always switch back to it and give my mom the 6p.. I'm wondering for those who have it if the jump is truly worth it..

If you ask here people say get the Nexus 6P. If you ask Note 5 forum, people say get the Note 5. End of the day it is up to you what you give more priority to. Both phones are great.

Thanks, have you had the note 5 or s6??.. I had opo and that made me not like aosp and prefer tw.. As of now once I sell my moms s6 I'll be getting the 6p.. I have a 64gb otg that I'm sure I can use on a 32gb 6p so I'll be fine in memory lol.. How's the frost looking??..

No have not owned a Note 5 but do own a 64gb S6. Don't like TW and the S6 is starting to stutter and lag. The battery life as well has been awful from the start. I have an OPO as well and it was a decent device (good battery life).
Frost looks great, those chamfered edges really pop and its not nearly as slippery as a glass device. I'm a Nexus guy though....I like using the UI the way Google intended and being first in line for updates.
Good luck man, I have heard good things about the Note 5 so I'm sure you can't go wrong either way.

Lmfao.. Search is my friend... LmFao.. Honestly I went straight to the 6p section checked in q & a didn't see anything so that's why I posted it.. I am using the tapatalk app so not sure if it's different from Web or xda app..
I could see why note 5 section says stay with note 5 and 6p say the same.. I'm a big Sammy fan boy but my heating issues and some tw limitations have me curious.. I've also never owned a nexus.. The lack of mp and iso, but I've read great reviews about this device

Haha is okay. If you are a big Sammy fanboy and have used tw most of the time then chances are you won't like the Nexus 6P. But tell us more, how do you use your device? What is important to you when purchasing a phone?

Well I've had the s2 s3 s4 s5 s6 now note 5..i did have an opo which the screen was crap compared to Sammy..
Personally I dont use very many tw apps.. My launcher is usually nova I use solid explorer and chrome.. When purchasing a phone external SD and battery are important as is the camera.. Nowadays extSdCard and battery seem to be a thing of the past so a great camera is good cause I have a soon to be 3 yr old and capturing moments are important..
I like sms time stamps for each message no matter how close or far apart the times are in between.. I love to root and theme my phone with center clock and 3minit... I use to be a huge aosp supporter but honestly Sammy screens is what make me a fan boy..

Honestly, the 6p is a fantastic phone. My favorite phone to date, but I've grown to prefer pure Android over TW, Sense, etc. If you really like TW then I say try to figure out your heating issue and stick with the note 5. Try turning the display to basic, the other settings seem to be pretty taxing on the phone. The note has 2 huge advantages over the 6p imo: the camera software and one handed mode.

Video recording is nothing special on the Nexus 6p. Also screen is awesome but if you hold it side by side against the Note 5 you will want the Note 5. Eye gets used though, so if you already use nova on your Note 5 and apps from the Playstore to substitute Samsung's own apps you might like the phone. I say try it, you have 15 days to return it. Usually Nexus devices are for those people that know how to tweak their phone and prefer minimalistic style.

I currently have a 32gb black sapphire note 5 from tmobile which I love a lot..
I've read about the 6p bending and the sound quality not being so great and sounds muffled etc.. Also someone mentioned it heats up as well.. Can anyone help with any feedback before I make the plunge??...

I Have both phones and they are both beasts. I find that thanks to the lighter touchwiz and the combination of exynos and 4gb of RAM the note 5 is as snappy and lag free as the Nexus 6P. I give the Note 5 the edge on the camera side and the N6P for the battery. It all comes down to what you need. If you absolutely love the note 5 camera you're going to miss it. If you are familiar and appreciate the stock android experience of the nexus line then by all means get it. Best nexus phone by far you will not regret it.

I agree the N6P has the best battery life since my OPO definitely a plus.
