Possible to change carrier firmware from Rogers to Bell? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi,
I bought an Rogers S7 Edge, but for work reason, I need to flash an Bell firmware in it. I am not root and won't root it.
This will trip the Knox. So I'm okay with it.
Would it work to flash another carrier firmware to my Rogers phone?
Thanks!

Do I also need to put all the file? Like BL, CSC, etc.
I know AS of course.
Thanks!

Yes it works and you won't trip Knox. Use Odin and the rogers official firmware. But why would you switch anyways they're identical. No?

Does the secure PIN need to be ON also ?
Some how to have it on.
Thanks

They are identical software, literally. It's multiCSC. All Canadian carriers get identical software, it just reads the CSC off the SIM card you have installed and adds the appropriate bloatware/features/APN for your carrier on boot (after flashing).
There is literally NO difference between the Rogers/Bell/Telus/Videotron/etc software.

Because my friend who have an stock Bell device, he can see in about register for voLTE, mine doesn't say it. That why I want to flash to Bell firmware.

Understanding flashing

Hi guys,
Just bought a galaxy s5 from my uncle who worked in Canada, the phone was locked to Telus Canada I unlocked it through unlockBase which was superfast and easy.. I have now really started using this phone and have now realised that the date format is different to what I usually use, I have done some research and found that an update stopped the ability to change it to prevent blackmarket sales or whatever.. I was thinking can I just flash a uk rom on the phone or not? But will it relock the phone? Also will rooting the phone enable me to change it? Although I don't wanna root because my online banking app won't work or WhatsApp?
Thanks in advance guys

This is definitely one of the strangest reasons for rooting...
But since it's a Telus phone its definitely a G900W8. You can cross flash all and only G900w8 firmwares so i.e. you can flash Rogers on bell, wind on telus, sasktel on koodo, etc

Thanks for the reply, yes rooting was the last option as some apps won't work.. so if i was to flash it i would only be able to use telus firmware which is US could I flash a UK firmware on it? And if I was to flash it would it still stay unlocked or will it need reunlocking?
EDIT: done some more research.. will changing the csc code on my phone to one of a uk firmware, then installing a uk firmware work?

Nope because anything outside of Canada uses a completely different phone model and flashing between different models will likely lead to a bricked phone (phone is damaged unrecoverable)

Switch Firmware,

Hello, xda_developers.
I just got mail S7 Unlocked in the mail that I ordered from eBay, I believe it was a sweet deal CAD $549.99 + tax. I am with Telus BTW. Let's get to the point.
The phone is with Sprint which has bloatware and APN is locked out. I want to flash a new firmware onto the phone without Tripping the Knox. I looked into the 930U Firmware but don't know which one to pick. I looked into the thread: "Bloat free firmware 930U....anyone tried it?" and saw the part about root, so I backed out.
After I looked into the Sprint SM-G930P firmware and saw few different "Regions": SPR, XAS, and VMU. I found"SPR" is Sprint, and "VMU" is Virgin Mobile USA. For "XAS" I am not too sure, but "XAS image has the APN section unlocked". ("Here" )
Afterwards, I found the forum "Found a code...interesting...." and used the code "##BRAND#" and removed the Sprint boot logo, and some bloatware but the APN was still locked out, and still had "Hands-Free Activation".
I need help picking the right Firmware for my phone, which will let me add APN, and remove the "Hands-Free Activation". I do not want or need to root the phone.
The phone is up to the latest update:
Software Version: SG930PVPS2APG1 ,
Hardware version: REV0.6 ,
Baseband version: G930PVPS2APG1 ,
Build number: MMB29M.G930PVPS2APG1 .
I did not want to flash firmware without knowing for sure it will not brick the phone, brand new phone in a long time, I don't want to break it or brick it on the first day.
Aswell, I am not sure if I can flash a Canadian firmware, SM-G930W8 or the Global Firmware, SM-G930F.
Thank you for reading, hope you can help me out.

The 930U firmware will work perfectly fine without root. No bloatware and you can modify the APN's.

the 930U firmware is bloatware free, and I don't have to root the phone? Also does it have the "Hands-Free Activation" or the "Activate this device" in Settings?
It's bloatware free and it doesn't require root. And when I flashed...it simply activated my device and there's no activate device in settings.

alright, thank you very much.
Going to go flash it now
edit: Quick Update, went to flash the G930U files(firmware?) and it all went smoothly. Takes time to register onto network. any fix without root?
edit 2: Just did a factory reset from recovery, seems to have fixed the slow network register
edit 3: The phone seems to run warmer than the sprint firmware, no idea why
Never mind, I am, an idiot.

Congrats on the phone! That is a good deal considering the phone goes for 899 brand new, and I'd assume around 600-750. But with black listing these days I wouldn't trust Kijiji etc.
Your phone should work fine except for LTE. Its missing I believe 2-3 bands for LTE but on the plus side it's the bands that bell/Telus don't really use much like 2600. So if you ever see soneone else have LTE and not you that would be why but, then again the bands you don't have usually are for rural areas
Enjoy the phone

Thank you very much. It's a pretty nice deal, still going on I believe. I don't have to worry about the blacklist. Even without the 2600 band data works great, really don't mind not having a few LTE bands, for the price i got the phone for. With the 930U firmware, it works great.

The U firmware has more/better LTE bands enabled than the Sprint (P) firmware. I strongly doubt it's missing any LTE bands used in Canada.

I believe your correct with the U firmware It shouldn't be missing a band or 2 like it is on the Sprint firmware. But yes about the same price as you'd get it on Kijiji (since there's tax) but it's new and don't have to worry about the blacklist

FWIW - here are the bands that are apparently supported in the 930U firmware. This is band priority list from the LTE section of the ##DATA# menu. Not sure which bands Canada uses, but it looks like the only major one missing might be band 17?

I think the Canadian networks may have started using MFBI on band 12 (like AT&T has). If so then B17 would no longer be necessary in Canada. The best place to verify this might be to post a question about it on the Bell and Rogers forums on Howardforums.

So, this universal firmware can be rooted, right?

Did the actual flash fail, or did one or more of the MD5 checks fail? What version of Odin did you use? If any of the MD5 checks failed, you just need to download the firmware again - your download was corrupted. If the actual flash failed, the most common cause is the USB cable/connection. Try another USB cable, and/or another USB port on your computer, and don't move the phone or computer around while it's flashing. Odin is very temperamental if the connection is not perfect.

I'm confused too. Are you wanting to use it on Sprint or T-Mobile? Do you have a sprint account, and did your phone activate on Sprint? I don't have any experience using a non-Sprint sim with this phone/firmware. The only thing I can suggest it maybe do a factory reset and go through the setup/activation with the T-Mobile sim already in the phone. Good luck.
If you're wanting to use both Sprint and T-Mobile on this phone, I'm not sure if that's possible. From what I've read elsewhere, even though this firmware is unlocked, it can only be active on one carrier at a time. I don't think you can switch back and forth at will, without activating/deactivating from one carrier to the other. I could be wrong though, as I have not used anything but my original Sprint sim.

The answer is NO you're asking firmware to replace/add hardware and that's not possible
I have a Verizon branded s7 edge and used Odin to load the 935U PI3 firmware. I am on T-Mo now and do have LTE band 12 working (validated with LTE Discovery). The research that I did found that the US variants have all the radios in them, but some carrier variants of firmware disable certain bands. By doing the 935U firmware, I also got rid of the notice on every reboot that I was using a non-Verizon SIM. So I now have all T-mo bands and no stupid SIM message.

I can vouch for same experience as SF-IT guy. I bought a G935V and flashed with G935U firmware via odin. Works on T-mobile, even wifi calling works. Currently on the latest PI3 version of G935U firmware. I would that you search the forum to see if you can flash the G935T firmware directly. The only downside of using G935U firmware is that the FM radio chip is not enabled in the firmware. I read that the all the carrier versions (September security patch and newer) of the G935 firmware have the FM radio chip enabled. I prefer the 935U version because it there is not carrier bloatware. Samsung bloatware is still there.

So what would the FM radio chip do? Just enable FM radios is all? Because if that's the downside then it's not a major setback as not too many people use the FM radio.

You definitely can. All US versions of the S7 & S7 Edge are the same hardware and can be flashed to any other US firmware. (including the U firmware that automatically works on all 4 carriers)

So what you're saying is that flashing the U version firmware will unlock by default all 930"X" and 935"X" phones? As in it just unlocks the mofo and debloats some while you're at it?
What's the catch? It seems too easy

Bloat is definitely gone on the U firmware, which is great. My phone runs faster and has more free space too.
I think some carrier features aren't supported on the U firmware. On T-mobile everything works (VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling), but I think AT&T might have some issues with those.
If the phone is SIM locked to a particular carrier, I'm not sure that automatically gets turned off or not when you switch to the U firmware. You might need to contact your carrier first to get an unlock code?

What if I got a temporary unlock from t-mobile unlock app and then flashed this firmware? Would it make it permanent? Seems quite possible, but I don't know if the temporary unlock actually unlocks the phone or just inserts a bypass that would disappear if flashed.

I unlocked my US TMo phone when stock, rooted, and am running Echoe - which has a glitch where WiFi calling sort of works (can receive calls but not make them). In the TMo forum, there are threads on U - your comments here are more specific to what I am interested.
Which U firmware are you on and are you rooted (is is updated to latest v4 bootloader version), and did you have to ODIN and full wipe with CSC or did you get by with CSC Home to preserve data?
Also, are you on U CP or did you flash TMo CP to get all the bands?.

Flashing stock firmware on carrier locked phone

Hey everyone! I'm somewhat new to XDA (as in this is my first time creating/posting a thread) but I've decided this is the best place to get some help.
So, I have a carrier locked G935W8 Fido phone, and I was wondering if it was possible to install the stock G935W8 firmware from sammobile. I have read around that flashing the stock firmware works after the phone is unlocked, but what if it is still carrier locked? Can I still flash the stock G935W8? Or will I brick my device? My phone is not rooted btw.
Thanks to anyone that can help me out!
Welcome to XDA
yes, you can flash stock firmware as long as it is for the locked carrier.
Other firmware will work but the imei maybe effected.

Well, that's the thing. I want to flash the unlocked Canadian firmware, as in the one with no carrier bloatware. Will that be possible and have the phone working 100%?
I'm afraid I don't have an answer to your question, but I just did the carrier unlock on my new G935W8 a few days ago using basically the first website to come up in a google search. $25 USD; waited about 18 hours to get the code. You don't have to rely on your carrier (with their insane fees and/or waiting periods) to unlock your phone; might as well just do it. Having an unlocked phone is very handy if you travel at all.

yes, it will work for most things 100 %. volte may not work as it requires a carrier branded firmware.
you will probably have to enter the number for your voice mail manually and settings for internet as that is in the carrier branding.

Want to Flash AT&T or Unlocked Firmware on T-Mobile Device - A Few Questions

So I've spent a few hours searching XDA to find the right resources on how to flash a different U.S. carrier's GS7 Edge firmware on the T-Mobile branded device. I found out that since all the internal hardware for all U.S. devices are identical, I'd be able to flash any one carrier's firmware on to any carrier's device, provided there are no inconsistencies with the bootloader versions of the firmwares.
The phone is intended for an extended family member and I am able to purchase a T-Mobile GS7 Edge for significantly cheaper than from any other carrier. Because it will be used on AT&T's network, I wanted to make sure I got everything right before I get started. I either want to flash the AT&T version which will allow it to be fully compatible on the network, or the Unlocked version. Apparently, the unlocked version is completely debloated since it's not associated with any carrier and provides better benchmarks, especially battery life, so I'm interested in that.
I've compiled the resources I need in the following:

etc.
One question I have is whether I am able to flash the Unlocked firmware at all. I don't currently have the device in hand so I can't check the baseband version, but my understanding is that the Unlocked version is currently on a lower bootloader version whereas it is v4 for AT&T or T.Mobile. This would mean I would be able unable to flash the Unlocked firmware if the device already has a higher version of the bootloader, right? Conversely, I would be able to do so if the T-Mobile bootloader was on the same version as the Unlocked version (e.g., if the device hasn't had an update to its bootloader).. The same issue would arise if I wanted to go back to a carrier firmware. Where can I find a list of T-Mobile firmwares and their bootloader versions so that I can check? Threads I've searched are saying I can't go to 935U from 935A/T because of mismatching bootloaders but others are saying I can go back to 935A/T on Nougat (same bootloader versions?) so clarification would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Just discovered the bootloader version can be determined by looking at the 9th character in the baseband version. Pretty simple!
Another question I have is whether flashing the AT&T firmware will give me VoLTE, Wifi Calling, tethering, etc. on AT&T's network. I've established that if I flashed the Unlocked firmware, I'll lose these functions (unless I root the phone, but that's a no-go since I need Samsung Pay intact). Just wanted to make sure that I would retain these features if I flashed the AT&T firmware on the T-Mobile device. Also, would I receive all OTAs pushed from AT&T while I'm on their firmware, even though it was a T-Mobile device? Or would I have to manually update it somehow?
Many thanks in advance.
Yes you can flash the unlocked firmware, I do recommend flashing the at&t CP (radio) though for better signal.
For tmobile all we lose is video calling, we retain everything else. I can't answer your other questions since I have not used this phone from tmobile on at&t. I have used the at&t model on tmobile with U and had no issues.

^^^^^this man is correct. Also, is the device you want to flash Carrier unlocked? Even though youre flashing a different carriers firmware or even the U firmware I believe the IMEI still needs to be unlocked from the original carrier. Obviously just pop the at&t sim card in the t mobile phone to see if its unlocked. hope this helps.

Yes, it'll be unlocked, so there won't be problems there. If I flash the AT&T firmware and not the Unlocked firmware, I will retain video calling, yes?

If I flash the current version of the Unlocked firmware, can I go back to AT&T's or T-Mobile's firmware?

flashing the at&t firmware will just be like having an original at&t s7 edge so yes. The Unlocked firmware will be lighter with no video calling(no carrier apps, no carrier boot animation, some of the quick toggles will be different) you will retain VOLTE HD calling, wifi calling(if at&t has that) and with the at&t you will have all the bloat (about 2-3 GB of used storage plus more a tad bit more use on ram usage) which will use more battery. remember like stated above, if you do decide to flash the U firmware, make sure you flash the latest At&t CP being you will have better coverage since youll be on the at&t network.

I was able to flash back to T mobile from the U, I never tried anything with a At&t variant or the at&t firmware
I am also interested. If I flash
1) Will the device status remain "Unmodified" - I use Good for Enterprise for work email and it won't function on rooted or modified devices
2) Will Android Pay Work?
3) Will I get Software updates directly?

I Flashed an AT&T S7 Edge with T-Mobile firmware and:
1) Status remains unmodified
2) Android pay works (as well as Samsung pay)
3) I've already got 2 T-Mobile pushed firmware updates that installed without any issues.
Don't know if this helps, but I'd think it would be the same going from T-Mobile to AT&T.
I did also have to use a modified version of "ODIN" and flash a "PIT" file because T-Mobile has a different partition than AT&T.

Thanks! I am almost ready. Final checks
- I downloaded 935U firmware from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/4-28-t-mobile-935-firmware-t3597866 (File is G935UUEU4BQD2_G935UOYM4BQD2_TMB.zip)
- I am planning to use ODIN 3.12.7
- Since I am on ATT Network I will use ATT Radio (CP File). I downloaded ATT firmware from here => https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-s7-edge/how-to/odin-files-to-s4bqc2-g935a-t3582874
I will use this CP => CP_G935AUCS4BQC2_CL10280464_QB12904088_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
Am I doing everything right?
Should I just flash all U files (including Radio) and flash ATT Radio later?
Please advise
Hi team
I have the tmo ime version of the s7 edge, but flash the ATT firmware BQC2 and now I can not go back to tmobile firmware or the U firmware I got the following error in Odin:
Error device info
Who can help me,?I going to gift my s7 edge to my brother and he is on Tmobile network
Galaxy S7 active
I have a at&t Galaxy S7 active unlocked and i transfer my service to T-Mobile but I am not able to get updates can I flash T-Mobile firmware so I can have the T-Mobile interface and updates. What do I need to do to get the updates.
All US variants can flash the firmware interchangeably. Just download the corresponding firmware and flash everything(Except for the modem if you'd want to keep the original modem). You dont need anything special. If the default odin dont work, then try the comey "cracked" version.

Why is it that we use the CP for AT&T; however, use the Unlocked CP for TMobile? Are the radios the same for the unlocked and T-Mobile variants? Where would I get this information if I needed it in the future?
I have a GS7 edge locked to T-Mobile with the Device Unlock app. Will flashing G9350U firmware unlock my device and bypass the Device Unlock app or will I still need to use this app to unlock?
Radios are different. I flashed ATT Radio after I flashed U firmware. Though honestly I cannot tell the difference

you did the sae thing that I am currently doing. going from tmobile (I believe) to AT&T firmware. I am going from verison (which shouldn't matter) but when I did it the first time odin 3.12.7 gave me a message of success after only one "sector" of the whole thing went green. but the phone rebooted to an error message. did I do something wrong? help??

Sorry not an expert, but I read several times here to use Price COmsy ODIN and I use that one. Please try
OTA Update is not working after changing to U firmware.
I had stock T Mobile last firwmare installed, but I was sick of poor battery and lag
so installed this firmware https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/6-8-t-mobile-935u-firmware-qe2-t3619151, full wipe.
Now I have worst battery performance. 12% draining overnight (6 hours) without touching the phone at all. It shows a new update but it fails when I OTA update. looks like the update it's being installed but fails at the end. Don't know what's wrong but totally hate battery.
Edit: Android pay is also not working..

What pit file did you flash? Did you flash the the pit file Odin pulls from your phone? Did you flash an att specific pit file?
