I try to check for updates about once a week, both here and at the t-mobile update page (https://support.t-mobile.com/community/phones-tablets-devices/software-updates). As I'm sure you all know, as of today (06-22-2016), the note 4, note edge, and tab s2 are the only ones without an update. So today, I contacted t-mobile's chat support to see if they could offer any more information. Here is the transcript in its entirety. My initial question isn't there because I asked it when initiating the chat session, but it asked when the update would be available, since the rest of the samsung devices had been updated except for the three, and since other carriers had updated it as well:

Aldrin B : Upon checking here in my end, the last version for the Note 4 is the Android version 5.1.1. So far there are still no updates about the OS of Samsung Note 4. No worries, once the update is available, you will receive notification about it.

Your own update page (https://support.t-mobile.com/community/phones-tablets-devices/software-updates#tmoSUPDocTitle) shows it still being under Manufacturer development.
You : however, the rest of the Samsung devices, with the exception of the note 4, note edge, and tab s2 have been at the completed stage for over a month. Also the other carriers have already pushed out their note 4 updates, as can be attested to by a friend of mine with Sprint, and another with ATT.
Aldrin B : Actually, I have already encountered customers like you who wants to have the update on their Samsung Note 4. I really do apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks! I still can't believe it's taking this long...but still better than att, they just released MM for The Note 5.

No one, anywhere, at T-Mobile or otherwise, will have, give, or offer this answer to you, or anyone else.
Chat reps will only give you the company line, as that is all that they have.
We all simply have to be patient.

You should ask them why they changed the status (over the weekend) from phase 2 which is Tmobile testing, back to phase 1... that is whats strange to me.

Perhaps they added the June patch and had to retest? Or they're just being dicks and are trying to get us all excited for nothing.

Ha yea I would put money on them being dicks just for the hell of it..I'm can't even get upgrades because I'm unlocked using straight talk att sim. I'm just pissed because it has brought development to a hault and I only use Tekhd....and he ain't gonna release the MM rom until T mobile does....and honestly I agree with him on that aspect because if I was him I would wait too. Just so it wouldn't be half ass...I have tried almost every single mm rom but without a kernel source for a decent kernel it's too much of a hassle to even try to run them....

This is correct. It has not changed. It's amazing how these rumors get started.
I have a bad BL on my Note 4, so the update means perhaps even more to me. Still. I must wait, like everyone else.
It'll probably come soon... I just switched to a custom ROM, now they'll push MM just to screw with me.
It won't surprise if they never release it for the Note 4. A lot of Note 4s had the Emmc read failure after updating to 5.1.1. Releasing MM will surely wreak havoc to Note 4 owners.

I moved back to CM12. Even though there is basically zero development on 12.1, the nightlies are stable as hell (more than I can say for DOK2). They're basically weeklies or bi-weeklies now which is nice. Don't have to flash as often, still get regular fixes, and the monthly security updates.

I bounce back and forth between CMRemix and Resurrection Remix; once you go Marshmallow it's hard to go back.
Back on point, I've heard conflicting arguments about who's holding up MM on Note4, Samsung or TMO. I'm inclined to think it's TMO, but I'm not 100% sure. My understanding is that Sammy gives the carriers the Sammified version of the OS, then the carriers add their frosting to it before shipping it out. I've also heard that the carriers give Sammy their requirements, and Sammy then delivers a fully-baked product ready for delivery. Any one know which is true?

It should be the latter. I don't think T-Mobile has enough dev resources to modify ROMs. But I still blame T-Mobile because they have too many requirements. For example, Bluetooth tethering is disabled; mobile hotspot has its own branding; etc.
The previous T-Mobile phone I owned was LG G2x. I still remember how terrible the update story was. Now I am going through the same crap again. I've had enough, will never buy a carrier branded phone again.
It'll get here when it gets here... then we'll have 20 threads about how bad MM messed with my perfectly working Note 4!
I called Tmo last week and asked about MM update, they blamed Sammy, so I called Sammy and they said they have released MM to the Carriers months ago and it was stable on N4. I called Tmo back and pushed to get a real explanation. A tech person got on the phone and told me that when they released MM to S5 (same generation) they had nothing but problems and it shut down many of the S5 phones. And so, long story short, they are allegedly working on the bugs so as to not have the same problems with N4. However, with N7 coming out in August, I think they are hoping that people just go ahead and upgrade to N7. But I don't believe that they can just NOT update N4 to MM so they will have to deal with it. But I told Tmo that they should just allow the Devs at XDA to deal with the problems as they Devs here seem to be better at working out the bugs and of course, we would have had the update months ago.
As for the Note 7 (they are skipping Note 6), the leaks reveal that it is simply a S7edge updated with a stylus, a little more ram and a hair faster processor, a sealed battery but with sd card slot.... and at a price of over $900... I say, no thanks. I think I will stay with my N4 or jump ship on Samsung products. There are some really good phones available now that are going to give Sammy a run for their money. We shall see how it unfolds.
Yep, MM will brick a lot of phones.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I've tried every custom MM Rom for N4, all of them have bluetooth issues which is a deal breaker for me. I use my headset daily to listen to music and podcasts, and having a phone randomly tell me the bluetooth share has crashed several times a day is just too much. Best luck I've had in terms of stability and battery life has been the debloated DOK2 rom. I've also noticed GPS is hit and miss with basically all custom Roms.
I have to agree with the notion that Tmo is holding update as strategy to promote sales of n7 since they have track record of doing just that. We have to remember, all of these excuses are nullified by the fact that other Tmo phones, including n5, have already been given update.
That being said, it is not totally out of the realm of possibly that they completely deny this phone an update to MM. This occurred with the n2, which was completely denied it's 3rd (final update) despite promises by Tmo.
Point being: Business is a contact sport. So unless we are willing to protest with our purchasing power, companies, like Tmo, will continue to trample on consumer rights and avoid ethical responsibility.

Same here. Don't like sealed batteries, don't like edge displays, don't like glass backs, and since I have a toddler who's favorite game is "hide the remote", I've gotten quite fond of the IR blaster. The N4 is a workhorse, and it looks like I'll be riding it into the ground.
...Nine Hundred Dollars?
Personally I'm not worried about it. The MM update will probably open a can of worms. Since they updated LP to 5.1.1 it's running pretty sweet. I like the N5 ported 5.1.1 custom rom I have. Everything works. Viper4Android works. If Viper doesn't work on the MM update that will be a fatal flaw. They should take the time to make it work right before they release it.

Well apparently the End of September has come and gone. So my questions is this, When will we get any update? I say end of October for the minor update and November for 2.2. Oh and guess what, T-Mobile UK missed their deadline for 2.2:
http://phandroid.com/2010/09/30/t-mobile-uk-misses-end-of-the-month-window-for-galaxy-s-froyo/
Amazing phone Samsung. ..yet this is just another thread of disappointment.
yep,
Either Samsung, Tmobile, or both really let us down
I say Samsung..since it's not their first time...but then again T-mobile don't have a good history either...looks like both.
Why blame everything on Samsung? Give me one good helluva reason. While they should probably deserve partial blame, T-Mobile makes the final call. If T-Mobile says no, then we don't get the update. Simple. Oh, one more thing, T-Mobile UK != T-Mobile USA.
I have no idea what the hell is going on with T-Mobile on releasing updates, but if it's quality over speed, then I will gladly wait unlike most people.
I'm angry at T-Mobile for not giving us any of the possible updates that Samsung made. It makes no since that the Vibrant has been out the longest in the states and hasn't had a single OTA.
I blame Samsung for lack of Froyo. If they can make it run on the tab, they can make it run on the phones. I can't be mad a T-Mobile for that considering no Galaxy S phone has an official Froyo update on it yet.
I wonder what's taking so long, the Tab is basically an 'oversized' Galaxy S (relatively speaking here). If it is working on the Tab it shouldn't take much to port it to the phones.
unless of course, it is held out on purpose so it would not cannibalize the sales of the Tab. Purely my guess.
Its not so bad that its late, its that T Mobile and Samsung haven't kept us updated. A small status or progress update would go a long way.

Second that
Do you not think them saying an OTA will be available soon, is keeping you posted? It was probably pushed back after that clusterfuck of an OTA for the Captivate.
I believe Samsung is full responsible of this situation.
Is not a secret that Samsung lacks on software support. Take the European Galaxy S the unlocked version. The devices came months before the Vibrant in the US and suffers the same stupid TouchWiz bugs and never got an update...
I believe we will be lucky if we see Froyo when Android 3.0 is available. (of course whoever still has a Vibrant by then).
For me that was my first and probably last Samsung device. Its a nice device but FULL of bugs with no a single sign of support... A complete let down for this high class hardware.

Samsung has managed to bork every single update for every US Galaxy S device. Even when they hit the deadline with the Captivate, it didn't fix the issue everyone wanted it to fix. Then, they release the update on other networks, only to tell people "Whatever you do - DON'T download this!". It's a joke.
Guys, relax! Samsung has been telling us that the update is coming "soon" for the past two months, so it's coming "soon"! In other news, the unemployment rates will go down to their normal levels "soon" as well!
/sarcasm
Yeah, its disappointing that the update has taken so long, but nothing to cry over yet imo.

Honestly we should have all expected this after how they handled the behold 2. I felt that a phone that was on all the major carriers would get tons of support, but alas....

Now I wait for 2.2 LOL
This is what EVERYONE who had bought a Beyond, or other Samsung phones kept saying...
Basically that Samsung either breaks their promises, or doesn't deliver on them until way late.
I am going to start looking for a new device. This 2.1 phone should hold me over until the 3.0/Gingerbread devices start coming out.
I am not upset enough to avoid Samsung in the future, but HTC and Motorola will be my first choices.

As you probably know last Month that Samsung pulled-out the froyo Update files of the Samsung Galaxy S from its servers due to Many System Bugs that Made the Android froyo unstable and laggy. And Samsung UK confirmed on its twitter Status that the Froyo Update is Coming on November on its Final Version and to All Network operators and No More Delays...No More pulling-out!!
We Got Some Information that the Release Date of the Galaxy S Froyo update for USA Carriers and UK Carriers is somewhere around 11th November,2010 as a FINAL Release Date. Worldwide release will follow in few days after the Official Release of the Froyo ROM for Samsung Galaxy S, which Means that All Galaxy S users Worldwide (Include Middle-East and Arab gulf users) will get the update on November along with UK,USA Carriers too.
Froyo rolling out in UK Nov 4
So The Update is Coming Finally and NO More Delays AT ALL... More Stable... More Smoother, its a matter of time right Now. As I always say "Waiting for the froyo to come-out, better than waiting for it to load!".

Hmm. My read of the actual text that Samsung sent out is not actually any different than it was a week or so ago: the i9000 will probably have 2.2 sometime before the end of the month, along with the rest of the UK/Europe. I really don't see anything in the "official" Samsung notice that indicates Verizon, or any other US carrier.
However, since the blog posts cite "Some information" for "somewhere around 11th, November as a FINAL release date" (How's that for ambiguous, "somewhere around", but it's also "FINAL"...), I'll be guardedly optimistic.
Make that HEAVILY GUARDEDLY optimistic...

I don't care. Wait before you flame, please...
I spent the last year with an Omnia, and I tried every possible rom on it until I found the one I liked/could put up with the missing features. It wasn't perfect, but I knew that a sweet android phone was in my upgrade future so I dealt. WinMo has it's flaws, but you can't fault the dev community for everything they did to make an ok device better.
Now here I sit swyping on arguably the best hardware on the market (other Galaxy S offerings aside...) and I have to say I really like it.
Voodoo-ed, de-binged, de-odexed, and de-TouchWizzed is way easier than trying a dozen roms on a weekend and adding .cabs from 100 websites to come up with a phone that still half the time didn't know where my finger was trying to press!
What does FroYo have to offer? Apps that run off the SD card? Flash? Minor, although it is a bit frustrating that by the time we get it, it will just about be time for gingerbread.
Guess I'm trying to say, the best stuff about froyo is going to get too us sooner or later whether VZW or Samsung give it to us or the very talented dev community here makes it happen. News that comes from them isn't why I log in here.

I'm sorry I couldn't help it. I wont do it again I swear.
Honestly I can't wait to see what magic the dev community creates with Froyo and the Fascinate. My thanks to all of you!!!
Hopefully what happened with all the Droid 1 releases is what will happen here:
Motorola (in this case Samsung) readies a build, gives it to VZW for testing.
VZW takes forever testing it, and either rejects or preps it for release.
The "hopefully" part is that, hopefully, in the meantime, the file gets leaked from the Samsung end and into our hands.
Not trying to be pessimistic, but if that first file didn't leak, Im doubtful that this one will leak early either
If Verizon decides to sit on the release at least we have US Cellular as a backup. In fact it seems like US Cellular does not waste their time with carrier customizations so they might just push it out the same day they get it from Samsung.
I used to be a US Cellular customer, my wife still is, they will not get in any hurry, I would not count on them for anything.

You missed the point of the post bud.
Verizon, or any carrier, does NO customizations, they have NO development (read: coding) teams. They don't alter the file they receive from the OEM (in this case Samsung) in ANY WAY. The bloatware you see comes with the build straight out of Samsung's repository, with the specs that Verizon requested. They take their sweet time for a multitude of reasons, and somewhere in that timeframe its held up for internal testing. Each carrier is different, but Verizon is notorious for being an extensive tester, and rejecting builds pretty often.
Bloatware that Samsung did not code....VZW did or outsourced. Hence people are arguing with you. You aren't wrong, but neither are you entirely correct.

I made this post to give some indication of the progress of Froyo, sadly most people want more or are intent on offering some type of dark cloud.
I know Froyo might not be released on the 11th, but at least we have a legit source of its progress. Hopefully around that time or before we will have a leaked build for testing and or roms (like some other devices). I'm sure thats when the dev section will take off.
well if samsung releases it Nov 11, dont they post the source up too, so we could have a modded version running before vzw does anything?

Been with Verizon Wireless since 1998. 1st Issue is always billing. Once you pay your bill on the due date. Bamm New bill is there. Sometimes I feel I am six months ahead of their billing. But the list goes on. Verizon to me always seems to be the last one to get anything. And in my eyes We as Verizon subscribers we pay then most of any other carrier.

But...that's how billing works. They've always billed a month in advance. It's a contract so the next bill is usually the same amount, doesn't matter if they post it right after you pay or the day before it's due, you always pay every 30 days. Honestly, if you get your phones with good deals(turbo was 100$ for me), you end up paying about the same as you would on tmobile or att. You don't have to stay with Verizon, you can switch to tmobile, but I stay because the service works and no other provider can say the same.
Tmobile: 5gb per line(10gb total) for 2 iphone 6 for example, is 175$ per month because you have to either buy the phone outright or pay for it in monthly installments. The same 10gb shared for 2 lines on verizon is 160$ per month, then add another 8$ per month to account for 200$ for 2 Droid turbo's(100$ each) over the course of a 2 year contract. In the end, its pretty much equal but I'll take verizon's service over tmobiles any day.
not much need
There really isnt much need to get lollipop right now because its still not so stable yet and technically still in beta. why do you think they already made 5.0.1? I would rather wait then get the stablest version and not get a rushed version like the nexus devices. Even Htc backed out from their 90 day promise.

You can't visit an iPhone page without finding iOS issues. You can't visit a Windows page without finding Windows issues. No operating system is flawless lol. Is Windows 7 still beta? Because that's what I have and it has plenty of issues lol

Please. That just proves my point. What does Apple do almost immediately after a x.0 release? Release a point release to fix the major bugs that showed up. Android is no different. 5.0 ? Terrible. 4.0? Terrible. 2.0? Terrible. In each case, a release quickly replaced them. Some were so buggy they didn't make it out of the gates without a point release.
All I can say is it must suck for them to decide. If they release early with bugs half of the people get upset that they would release like that. If they hold back the other half hate them cause they don't have it now. . . . .
My mom has had Lollipop on her Moto X for I think a couple weeks now, she says she's had no issues. Even the Lollipop roms I've flashed on my other devices seem pretty stable. I'm ready for this device to get it.
Hi guys,
I have a British Note 4, running BTU and I'm still waiting for Lollipop. Having owned many many devices over the last few years, I'm more than used to this waiting game, but it's getting a bit crazy now?
Lollipop was released a few weeks after the Note 4 was announced, we are now three, almost four months in to the following year and I'm yet to receive the update?
Poland, Samsung's Beta location received the update a long time ago. What's going on are there some serious Lollipop issues?
If you're running Exynos CPU then apparently were awaiting Intel to produce drivers for the radio. I have N910U international unbranded model and no update yet either, yet most carrier models are updated, very unusual. I feel you though, we are almost in to the 4th month of the year and I seem to recall SS mentioning GN4 will be receiving Android 5.0 shortly 6 months ago lol, oh well looks like I may consider the Saygus V2, beast of a phone!
I wish I could say that's the model I have but unfortunately it isn't! I'm running the N910F

I'm using the same phone and I'm wondering exactly the same. Keep checking this forum nearly daily to see if there is any news but nothing. Must be coming soon tho.

Lolipop update for Note 4 its official a failure!! I see HTC One M8 and LG G3 and Note 3 that i sold to buy the Note 4 with oficial updates and my Note 4 on 4.4.4
Worst... no oficial word on the subject by Samsung.

At last someone asked this question, I was wondering why no one has asked this already!
Samsung should update us
note 3s are being updated etc ...but most unlocked carrier free international phone still no update.....Samsung should say something like we are sorting out bugs but we plan to release it within the next few weeks.
the way they are doing it now doesn't help create a good brand
Although hard every company should be like Apple when it comes to software updates. Everyone should get it at the same time.

The G version we have down here in Australia is in the same boat. Until every component is built in house (applies to any manufacturer) then software updates for every model variation won't be possible. Sucks but usually comes with the option of choice.
The UK is one of the countries which has the gear VR and that might be the reason for the delay as the UK note 4 has to work with the gear VR on lollipop and is waiting for oculus update.
No one gives a flying you know what about Gear VR, its a poor excuse to prolong an update so that SS can release S6 in hope (we whom remain pre updated and with bugs) that we jump ship!
Deplorable and unforgivable!
Another lost customer here Samdung, better to not bull**** consumers when releasing products!

Calm down mate. The only thing I don't get, is how come you're on XDA developers forum and still doesn't have lollipop? I'm on ee and have dirty flashed with Odin first German and now that new Dutch rom and it's all good. UK is important market for Sammy, hence I guess they want to make sure everything is buttoned up before proper release. DBT rom wasn't good, that's why they stopped rollout.

You really think that people are going to change their phone just because the new one has the latest lollipop? Surely you would have to be an idiot to that.
Talk now is the S6 will be getting Android 7 soon, the S8 will be out in a few months and yet Samsung is sitting back releasing Android 7 through a bottle neck...........if they want to treat customers in this manner fine but I wont be party to it again, like last year when other countries and networks got Android 6 before the BTU beta users!

Well you could argue a few ways.
One - would you rather have rushed software with bugs, or tested software that works?
Two - there are a few models from the Samsung line so newer should get priority over older.
Three - Samsung should release less devices to show work on upgrades for existing users. Most people will upgrade at end of contract, which in most cases is 18 months to two years. So having a new product every two years will lead to better tech than the predecessor and a more unified user base with devices and more satisfied customers.
Sadly, business works on ever growing profit margins, so having a two year gap in growth would look bad for investors and other companies could surpass Samsung in growth in that time making the new models cost more to make up the previous years loss.
You could argue yes but its even out of the Oneplus 3 now, I wont be wasting hundreds with Samsung again..........oh and it wasn't really an argument you gave because Samsung has tested it, their just dripping the final release so only a handful of people have it

Me too. I regret my decision of choosing S7E over Pixel now.

Well, I'm going to post from the other side of the tacks on this one. I came to the S7 Edge from a 6P. I was even part of the beta program and got updates faster than anyone else. You know what? Whoopdeedo. There was nothing even in the last release version of N (7.1.1) that I had on the 6P that this S7 Edge can't and didn't already do long before it was put into vanilla Android. The upgrade to N will come to the S7 Edge shortly. Even here in Canada where updates seem to take forever from carriers, it is noted as coming soon, so we should see it in the next month or so.
But really, this phone is already performing so much better for me that the 6P ever did and has everything software wise and more than I ever had with straight N Android. Not sure why the updates are seemingly so important to some. This phone works great right now and my battery life is off the charts compared to the 6P on the latest version of N. Besides, N is coming to our phones shortly as well. As someone mentioned above, because it is taking longer, at least it won't be riddled with bugs and battery drain like on the 6P for me.

It wasn't an argument. I was just giving an explanation on the possible scenarios.
You have to understand that carriers may release their updates later than Samsung., even thigh Samsung have tested.

Yes we've been told this since December
Just wait. It's not hard, the update will come when it is due. If you are that eager for it then flash the BTU version. Samsung has their own way of releasing software, just like every other OEM.

Well, don't speak for everyone. I'm with Rogers here in Canada and they JUST posted "Coming Soon" on their website. So it's only been about a week or so since my carrier has said it is coming. Not Samsung's fault the carriers take forever to get their crap in there and test their version.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/tech/news/575565/Android-Nougat-Samsung-Galaxy-S7-update-release-date
Like I said I wont be giving hundreds to a supplier that extracts the urine like this, I might even get the Oneplus 4 when its out, they've released it for the 3 now
I got fed up waiting for Singapore to update to Nougat, so I just flashed, with Odin, the Malaysian Nougat update, using my Home CSC. Worked perfectly, not data lost. My phone is not rooted
Well, the unlocked version in US is independent on carriers and does not has Nougat yet. It is not the carrier's fault if Samsung has multiple versions of the same phone and decides to update only a subset of all the versions.

No doubt there are bugs they can't fix and that's the real question: why samsung with their multimillion budget to hire skilled devs can't provide quality software update in time? Not to mention how many people replaced they catching fire note 7 with s7e... good strategy to treat all of them like that. Let's not forget that in 2017 even the normal user is becoming more and more aware about updates and their importance about his experience. After all, they can afford to hire more than one A team working on their flagship phone and attach it to s7/s7e development. If the patch BTU update works well I can guess they will start to roll out around the mid/end next week. Still, for me this is a really bad rollout, especially if we consider the beta test period.
dude stop whining and get a custom rom. ive been having nougat for over a week on my s7e now

Is there a custom rom for the Snapdragon version witg Nougat? Don't think so. If there is, will be happy to install.
