I recently rooted my G900V and installed CM13. It works like a charm except one minor/major thing.
When using the Sim Toolkit to log on to secure websites like banks or social security websites, it appears as if the phone is unable to send a response to the website in question.
Now I've had SGS2 before on CM11 and it worked great, but after upgrading my SGS5 to CM13 I can't get it to work. I've tried contacting the operator without any meaningful feedback. Same with the banks.
As I'm a complete newbie in terms of modifying applications on Android, I turn to you guys.
Can anyone relate to the issue or provide any meaningful responses ?
Thank you so much!

hi all,
short story: Friend on T-Mobile needed a new phone. I bought them a Unlocked Americas S5 (SM-G900H) on amazon. They received it today. Swap sim cards from their damaged s4. Have them set it to global in network settings, have them change the ADN, and a couple other settings to get it to work on T-Mobile. Find out what was sent was a unlocked Verizon S5 model (SM-G900V) according to their system info screen. They also see Verizon apps installed and whatnot, and bootloader. Either way, they are able to receive data, text, calls. And they are getting 4GLTE just fine (shows and detcts it as tmobile, and they can download and browse the net, no issues), not HPSA+. Work like a charm as far as data and voice go.
However, only one issue.... they keep getting a "SIM Card is from a unknown source" warning on the taskbar that's just annoying. I had them root their phone, install supers, and install a root file browser after finding some information to freeze or remove "vzwphoneservice.apk" which seems to fix this same issues for others on older android phones. Problem is, its not there... not in system\app and not in system\priv-app where it should be. They use 4.4.2 kitkat. So I check my own note 3, which is also Verizon and has 4.4.2 kitkat. Im rooted, check same folders, that file is not in either of those directories.
To me, its apparent Verizon has changed the filename. Just trying to find out what it is so I can freeze or remove it to get rid of that Verizon "SIM Card from unknown source" warning.
Any suggestions or ideas? would be greatly appreciated

Confirm that both vzwphoneservice.apk and vzwphoneservice.odex are renamed or removed. You may also need to rename VzwController.apk and VzwController.odex and clear your phone cache (from recovery mode).
These are Verizon setup files and it is looking for an encrypted SIM that CDMA carriers like to use. The above should vanquish the message unless you have really rotten luck vis a viz Verizon having added yet another Kitkat setup package.

did you ever figure this out ?
One post wonders. New members who solicit our help to solve their issue. But they don't have the courtesy to even let us know how the situation resolved. Perhaps it's an outright waste of time to try helping people with less than n posts.

Hey guys, please don't feel that way. I am actually having the exact same issue, however I am unable to locate the files specified. Can you please direct me where to find these files? I will respond to let you know if it worked or not.
Thanks,
Ron

Welcome to XDA.
It would be good if you started a new thread though, rather than hijack someone else's thread on a similar topic.
Tell us what you tried looking for (filenames, where.. using what app, etc. and what phone model you have.. as many details as you can) and lots of us will try to help you out.

Ok, I created a new thread here. Thank you for the quick reply!
Thank you everybody in advance for the help you may provide.
Please could you help me to understand if i can fix my scl23?
This is the thing.
I got myself a KDI au gs5 scl23 with kitkat 4.4 and as i understand its rooted with a custon recovery, beacaus of the sim unlock, and the recovery its in japanese.
The phone works fine, but when i try to use it on ultra saving mode, its says that it`s samsung account isnt activated and doesnt allow me to change it(in the settings of the phone there isnt a way to change samsung account). So it bugs on that samsung account, and doesnt allow me to use internet and the keyboard when im on the ultra saving mode. By the way i live in Argentina and cant find anyone who speaks Japanese.
So, Trying to fix this samsung account problem i upgraded to lollipop 5.0, but it lock the phone and it doesnt get any antena signal, its says insert a sim, but there is no "no sim" mesage on the mesage board.
And now im dowloading the 4.4 firmaware files to downgrade it to 4.4 and to unlock it whith service menu commands.
Have anyone been able to unlock it with service menu on lollipop, or in any other way? Beacuase lollipop fixes the samsung account problem but olso locks the phone and installs custom AU rom, only in japanese or english laguage.
Thank you very much to everyone.
same here
This is the same thing that happened to me, did you manage to revert back and unlock the simlock on 5.0? Any luck upgrading to 5.0 and using your sim with the device.
cheers

Ended up downloading the 4.4 rom for phone again, installing that. Had to clear cache and do factory data clear to get phone booting again after downgrading. Then I was able to complete the Sim Unlock steps outlined here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/tutorial-unlock-sim-au-kddi-galaxy-s5-t2891992
Super frustrating using a phone like this, as it has so much bloatware from Japan which I just want to get rid of. But up and running now, with several replacement mods for keyboard, messenger etc
A lot of information out there, thank you internet and forums like this one for having so much information to get things working again. :victory:
TL;DR Help a newbie with upgrading my rooted Note 3 from 4.4.2 to a more current version please. I'm old and dumb and really tried to find an answer before embarrassing myself on a forum of experts. Knowing me, the answer is probably right under my nose. Go easy on me <3
Hey guys,
I used the search function on this site and on google but was unable to find what I'm looking for.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with T-Mobile. I have Android aversion 4.4.2 and my model number is SM-N900T.
I rooted my phone using a guide I found on youtube to get superuser for the purpose of being able to play emulators on my phone, such as Snes9x EX+, Nostalgia.NES Lite, ePSXe, etc. They all work great. I am not using a custom ROM.
The problem I'm facing is that I don't understand if I need to unroot (correct term?) my phone and just get the auto updates, or to download and install them manually, but I'm unable to receive auto updates over the air as I'm sure you guys would know since this is your hobby and are versed in this sort of thing. I don't even know how to do either really properly but am not afraid to try.
The reason I'm wanting to upgrade now (which might be completely unrelated) is that I haven't been receiving text messages from either my sister or my roommate, whom both of their last messages were received by me on Aug. 5th. I tried contacting my carrier and they said they didn't detect a problem. Both of their carriers said the same thing (one being T-Mobile as well). I guess this is just another step in troubleshooting but I would like to believe this is a network issue.
Any advice would help and would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
Hello. I bought a S5 from Ebay for Boost Mobile. Problem is that it has the Samsung Activation Lock still on. Ive done the searches all over the net and have come across URL="/watch?v=EaN13PiQbe0 ====Video"]/watch?v=EaN13PiQbe0 ====Video. I understand most of it but I can't find a workaround for the "findmymobile.samsung.com" part. Is there a way to do it on a S5. Don't Chastise Me. Im Not Nixon. I am not a crook. I paid for a phone with a clean ESN(I checked) and dont want to be stuck with a paperweight. Thanks in advance.
Searching for the S5 tutorial would have been better than the S6 ones lol

And flashing a KitKat ROM from sammobile first with ODIN works if you know the samsung account (If you locked yourself out of your own phone) for future reference
Sorry

I have a few questions for anyone familiar with the Samsung Galaxy J series, specifically the J3. I have virgin mobile, and after a long time suffering with their HTC Desire 510, I want to upgrade, and not wanting to spend $400 on a galaxy S5 , the J3 seems the next best phone to get. However, as I've grown used to having a rooted phone and customizing my phone as much as I want, etc, I want to make sure my next phone can be rooted, and has support for custom ROM's, etc.
The main thing that could help me with my decision would be some guidance as to whether other versions, the J2, J5, J7, etc, that are present here would be potentially compatible with the J3, or if I'm out of luck and should consider other options if rooting is a necessity for me.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Anyone?
I'm sure you can root it.
I'm using j5 and it took me like 15 minutes of reading and about an hour /including downloading and setting up all the things /for the root.
I just want to say that you would need to be prepared to wait until someone make a custom Rom for it.

Thats what I was thinking. I figure that rooting it (hopefully) is similar to the other J series. As long as its rooted, wouldn't I be able to (even w/o custom rom) debloat/customize/etc it with various root tools, apps2sd, etc? Or are those dependent on having a custom rom? On the only phone I've rooted so far (htc desire 510) I didn't really spend any time with stock rom when I rooted, instead immediately flashing Nonsense rom, so I'm not sure what limitations keeping stock rom comes with when rooted.
Thank you for the reply! It gives me a bit of hope at least.
I'm not really familiar with the device. As I said before I have a j5. According to the applications that you mentioned I think that it would be possible to get and install them. But rooting isn't quantum mechanics. There are some apps that you could easily install on almost any device and get the root privileges. For example kingroot I am sure you can find others. I usually root my devices trough pc.I recommend you to take some time before jumping on the first option that comes up as a possible solution.
According to changing the stock Rom. I don't known how developed is that treat so.. Again read here and there about it.
GL!
Let me know if I helped by hitting the thumb up
I dont think permanent root is going to be possible until a working twrp is made so that you can flash supersu. I know that sux, I wanted to get one for my wife because she broke the screen on her vm s3. But without root and the ability to get unlimited hotspot... nope. I asked a dev ( lrs121) if he would port twrp to it. He said he would try if I had the phone and could get him the necessary files from it. Look in the sprint s3 section under twrp for virgin and boost s3. He is a great dev.
Actually far as I can say there are 2 twrp options. you just have to read more

Read where? Could you be a little more vague?
I am by no means a noob, and when I answer someone, I generally throw in a link.
But thanks for letting me know it exists.
Is it another phones twrp that works? Any hints at all?

Sorry i was on the phone while traveling. I`ve mistaken that it was about the j5 ( like mine device) and for that especially i had tried 2 working options up to now for twrp. but i`m pretty sure you can find tutorials or you can even simply DL the twrp /for example/ 3 install it as an apk and than you if it stuck just would need to DL odin for your PC and than strictly follow the steps / install /unzip odin, connect device , go into DL mode and flash it with the stock ROM which you can find in sammobile /.com i guess/ ?
GL and hit thanks if i helped!
