External App moving back to internal after app updates? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I am guessing there is no cure for this other than an update from Google? This behavior is stupid as hell where after u move an app to external, and then update it through Playstore, it moves back to internal...
Also, is there a way to see "accurately" what's on the phone and what's on SD card?? is there an that do that?
I feel like the "Move to SD" option doesn't actually move everything to SD, the data you've downloaded for the App "In-app" still sits on the internal memory?

Benefit of installing to sdcard?

When I go to settings/storage, I see that I have 400 megs of internal storage still available. I believe all my apps are stored internally. So as long as I show space available, is there any other benefit of installing apps to the sdcard instead?

Well if you're a person who installs a ton of apps on their phone, then having an sdcard for extra storage isn't a bad idea.

No, there's no benefit whatsoever in having the apps installed on SD card instead of internal memory. As long as you have enough internal memory to hold all the apps you want - moving them to SD card will just slow the loading of the phone, the loading of the apps themselves, will disable the apps when you're mounting the SD card on PC, and might create some other various mild annoyances.

When using Link2SD, make sure you're moving the .apk/data, the Dalvik Cache and any Libs files. Three boxes should come up when moving an app manually, all of which should be ticked. I think you can set it to do the same thing automatically whenever you install a new app through the settings as well, although I can't remember if that's the default setting or if you have to manually change it.

App to move app to adaptable syorage

Every time an app is updated, I have to move it back to my SD card and considering how frequently they get updated. It's becoming a real chore having to move them manually. I know there are apps that tells me which app can be move but is there any that does it with 1 click?
I don't have to do that but some apps won't work when you move them.

Your title says Adoptable storage. If you are using Adoptable storage, you dont need to move anything.

That's actually wrong. I had a Moto X Pure with Adoptable Storage for a year before the A7.
Apps will only move to SD card automatically with adoptable storage if the developer choose to pick sd card storage over internal storage. Guess what, developer never picks SD card over Internal storage.
As a result, you have to manual move the apps to sd card and they get move right back to internal once it updates. Basically, adoptable storage is useless.
I made the HUGE mistake of getting a 16 gb MXPE thinking Adoptable Storage would be my saving grace for the 16 gb internal storage and I was so wrong.
The best part is that if an app move from SD to internal storage because of an update, the data get wipe. It was not fun having to constantly login to all my apps once it updates.

No there isn't an app that will do it. I had to suffer though that chore for a year on my 16 gb Moto X Pure. Just keep your apps in Internal Storage and the media in Microsd.
Actually I use adoptable storage on my Moto X Pure and it works really good. Almost all new apps automatically go on the sd card and if you go into apps in settings you can manually move specific apps to either internal or sd card storage. Some apps only allow internal storage by the developer, but now that Marshmallow has been out almost a year, almost all apps allow being moved to adoptable storage.
I agree with everyone else that it should move to the adaptable storage unless the developer does not want you too because I have a 16gb model with a 32gb sdcard and I am not have any problem with storage at all. The apps are moved there by default.

Apps on SD Card?

So I'm new to this whole SD card thing, I've only owned the s6, which obviously, didn't support expandable storage. So my question is - is it possible to move apps onto the SD card slot? I understand there might be a performance hit, but for a lot of apps, I can careless about the performance of the storage on it.
I saw there was a "move to sd card" option for applications on the galaxy s5 - will there be something similar here?
Nope, don't believe so. If it's anything like past devices though, app data can be saved to SD card. Camera can capture to SD, spotify can download tracks to SD, GPS navigation apps can download maps to SD, etc. Main app files will be on main 32GB memory

Thank you. That's good news all around. Now if only some games would store their data on the sd cards.
I currently move apps to my sd card on the Galaxy S5;, using a utility called "All in one toolbox". It allows me to move apps so they run off of my micro SD card. Does anyone know if this will work with the Galaxy S7 edge?

But, if it is anything like past devices, it could have an option to "move app to SD". Has the removal of this feature been confirmed yet? We all know Adoptable Storage is gone, but what about App to SD? Is it confirmed missing, or are we just speculating?
Running MM on my S5 and the Adoptable Storage works so well, I hope Samsung change the mined about this.

Pretty sure App2SD has been a mod / specific vendor addition since... a long time now. That hasn't been a part of Android for years. Removed in Jellybean maybe?
I don't know if Samsung has specifically written this in with the S7, sorry.
I'm pretty sure I heard one of the dudes who did a first impressions on it that an upcoming feature in marshmallow will allow to merge SD card storage with internal .... No idea how credible the dude is though

That is a Marshmallow feature but Google has encouraged manufacturers to remove that feature. The LG G5 and the Samsung S7 phones do not have it.
David Ruddock from Android Police says.
"Google discourages using adoptable storage if:
Your SD card slot is in an area where it may be regularly ejected (i.e., the SIM slot) and/or your phone has "sufficient" internal storage already, which is probably these days 32GB or more. Adoptable storage is apparently intended as a feature for phones with very limited internal storage and for stationary, IoT types of devices.
LG has done the same, and does not have adoptable storage on the G5."

Is it something that be acquire through rooting?
I've got the option to move apps to SD straight out of the box. Go to the Apps, find the app, go to Storage. It's there. Not every app has it but lots do.
Apps on SD Cards Disappearing from Edge
I was able to move some downloaded apps to the SD card. Then I put a few on the Apps Edge. But I found that, if I reboot or power off/on, the apps (not just the icon, but the apps themselves) disappear from the Edge. Has anyone else seen this?
You can do it through adoptable storage:

I got my S7 Edge yesterday & love it.
However I'm having trouble transferring apps to the SD card. In my case, I can successfully move the app via the Application | Change Storage Location option BUT when I look at the SD card in a file manager, it has only moved the folder structure & the app files remain in internal storage.
Anyone know what the hell is going on?
Cheers.

I am having the exact same issue. Says it moves the apps, but the internal storage and SD card usages do not reflect this; the corresponding directories on the SD are size 0 and empty as well.
go to settings/aplication manager. find the app you want to see if it can go to SD and go to Storage. There you can see if there is Change button .
i mooved many apps to my SD but when i restart my phone i didnt had worked apps.

Sorry but the only thing that happens is a folder is created on the SD to store the app. data. Nobodies apps are moving over to the SD card.

transfering apps to the SD card

Can someone check the ability to transfer apps to the SD card? I have a Verizon S7 Edge, when I transfer an app to the SD card it says it moves but nothing seems to happen. The amount to storage on the card doesn't change and no new files are created. I have tried this with Audible and Strava.

Yes, seems to be broken for me as well, it says to move and also shows it being on the external sd in the application manager afterwards, but the taken storage is the same on internal and external. It did create the subfolder in Android/obb for me on the external sd, but it was empty. I also tried to move the file within the folder by hand into the folder on the external, but the game simply wouldn't load afterwards (tried it with Implosion), just stayed on a black screen after the first starting screen.
Ok, found the problem, when you move the app from internal storage to external sd from within settings - > applications, it moves parts of the app from the internal data folder to the Android folder on the internal sd, what is pretty pointless...

You could enable Adoptable Storage so that some of your external SD card will be used for internal memory: http://www.modaco.com/news/android/heres-how-to-configure-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
I know, but even while i have a class 10 card, i don't want the speed impact when putting all on the sd, also I'd like to use the internal storage to its full potential and just put some certain apps to the external sd, but thanks anyways.

Samsung disabled the adaptive storage option. Here is the response I got from Samsung on the app data issue. I looks like they know the data isn't moving.
"I have checked our resources and found that whenever an app is moved to the SD card, only the app and the dependencies of the application for the Operating System to identify the app on the SD card are only moved. Data associated with the app is not moved to the SD card.
Let’s hope that our future updates should allow the user to move the apps data to the SD card along with the app.
I would have surely helped you if there was any other option to move the apps data to the SD card.
I appreciate your time in writing to us. "
Argh, how annoying is this? My s7 is doing exactly the same. Nothing is actually being transferred to the sd card with their move to sd tool! I'm glad I bought a 64gb card especially (not) grrr!
Just had a thought. Has anyone tried this with an encrypted SD card? Maybe that's why....
