Hi all
Cast screen is not working on g4 plus. Can anybody confirm if there is any additional setting. Thanks
Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
I used cast function last night on my moto g4. no extra setting at all. When you view the photo or video, the cast icon will appear automatically if there is any paired device nearby.
I paired it with my JBL pulse 2, it shows cast icon. But m not able to pair it witj my led
Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
you might need to sort out the pair process with your led even without playing anything.
i use google chrome. but i didn't install the chromecast app as what i did on my moto g1. but on my moto g4, it automatically found the chromecast.
you need to root your device.
1.Download Root Browser from play store.
2.Go to root directory > System folder > Open build.prop.
3.Add these two lines in the end :
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
persist.sys.wfd.virtual=1
4.Reboot your device.
5.Connect to your TV using wifi direct.
6.After connecting, go to Settings > Display > Cast.
7.You will see 3 dots on upper right of screen, tap it and tap "Enable Wireless Display".
8.Your TV will be listed there. Tap on it and Screen Casting will be started.
I tried adding the lines to build.prop however it is not allowing me to save it

By Motorola Moto E 2 4g LTE CM 14.1 Nougat 7.1.1
Sorry for reviving an 18mo thread, but... I just received my Moto G5 Plus today, and to my surprise, the official position of Motorola/Lenovo is "It works only with Chromecast". That don't fly with me. So, I applied the two lines to the build.prop file as described above, and lo-and-behold, my Roku TLC TVs showed up just fine.
However, when I select them, I get a prompt telling me that Wifi is active and must be turned off. After accepting, the MG5 connects directly to the TV, excluding the wifi connection to my router. That means, it rolls over to LTE service.
Is there any fix to this? It's certainly better than no screen casting, and will work just fine when trying to show local phone content - but since I'm on a capped data plan, it would really suck to be casting YT videos in a home with 100mbps WIFI, and still be forced to use VZ LTE to show it.
I cant use cast too on my samsung tv
My understanding based on various forums:
I do not think it connects to LTE even if its asking for switching off wifi.
Android as an OS supports Miracast (direct mirroring protocol without common wifi router) since JellyBean. Although OS supports it, some android hardware devices cannot support Miracast without turning off wifi.
Nexus, Samsung S3,S4,S5... can support Miracast without turning off wifi in your mobile. But G4 Plus's hardware will be able to support Miracast only by turning off wifi. Hence they disabled it at the software level. So we have to enable it by rooting!
Miracast protocol does not require the mobile manufacturers to display "Miracast" logo and so nobody explicitly mentions it in their products. So no clear way to know if a device supports Miracast! But my understanding is that it is present in all android from jellybean and above (but hidden at the software level for some phones like G4 Plus because of hardware restriction that disconnects wifi while mirroring).
Some more observation which might be helpful:
Though Miracast is a common protocol, every company can have its own implementation! This means Miracast of my Samsung TV and Miracast of my G4 Plus may differ in implementation. You may ask what is the impact of different implementations - Will it work or not?
The impact is although TV and Mobile both supports Miracast (but having different implementations),they cannot connect directly without common wifi router !!!! (which is what miracast is supposed to do!!!)
My some Samsung mobile like S4567 can connect to Samsung TV without a common wifi router (same is the case for Sony and LG I think) -- This is because Samsung's own implementation of Miracast in both TV and mobile makes it to work without common wifi router.
build.prop can't be edited !
I tried to edit build.prep file, but it is not allowing me to make changes to that file. Please help !

Tried the suggested changes in build.prop (after rooting) but "cast"
doesn't work from mobile (LG Nexus 5, Marshmallow, hammerhead,
Android 6.0.1, US make) on a smart tv (LG 55UC970T) with a built-in
Chromecast, purchased in India. Content sharing works with third
party apps. Under Screen Share option on TV, mobile does show
the TV name '[LG]WebOS' but soon disappears without allowing
us to click. Tried including
wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
in build.prop but no success. Kindly suggest a workaround. Thanks in advance
The build.prop patch worked. I had to make sure Root Explorer doesnt reset file permissions and ownership (otherwise camera and torch would stop working)
I added the lines in build.prop but it still doesn't list my Roku TV under Cast.

Old devices make really good mobile wifi hotspots and portable media servers(for devices that support this functionality). I wouldn't splash $300 on a new device just to do this and chances are I'd have more face time with my new device than I'd do with the old one. That said, I'd like to have the ability to turn the hotspot on and off without having to fiddle through the settings each time and to that effect, this app also comes with a widget.
HOWEVER: The developers of this app have discontinued it's support. This is the response when I mailed the support team:
Hi,
Thank you for your email, unfortunately,
supporting this app is discontinued and we
pulled it from Google play due to changes in
Android OS...
Best regards
The main issue is that the wifi network security options JUST DON'T WORK!!! You'll set up the hotspot fine; Enter the SSID, choose the security option etc. But when you activate the hotspot, it security is set to OPEN. You have to manually change the security each time which is a nuisance.
Possible reasons for this could be because I'm running a nightly build of CyanogenMod 7.2. The wifi tethering has only two options for security; Open and WPA2/PSK while the app has 3; Open, WPA/PSK and WPA2/PSK. If the developer is comparing a selected index rather than a selected item to the phone's options, choosing option 3 in the app(index 2) would pass and invalid state when compared to the phone's options because they only go as far as option 2(index 1). This is why the setting is set to open, as a fall back because trying to set to index 2 failed. I found this to be true when I selected the second option(index 1) in the app which is WPA/PSK. After the hotspot is active, the security is set to WPA2/PSK which is the second option(index 1) in the tethering options.
If any of you have used this app, then you'll know that there is no better app available. Let's just hope that the support for the app will start again soon to fix this issue for CyanogenMod users.
In the review on Gizmodo they said you can turn off the recommendations per app but I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone find it?
They seem to be controlled by the notifications setting:

Well, we have been using Amazon Instant Video (since we're Prime anyway). And I'm racking my brain trying to figure out how to get the Amazon apk to the Nexus so that Chainfire's lovely little app can find it and hopefully that will work.
What do I do.... get the apk to the PC, then connect the Nexus Player to my PC and copy it over? I'd hate to re-invent the wheel if someone else here has already done it. I'd like to know how YOU did it.
Thanks!

Hello there,
This was one of the first thing I tried, but it didn't work. Both the Amazon, and the Prime Instant Video apps have to be installed. Just like on a phone. (In case you're not aware the Instant Video app doesn't work without the Amazon app.) Anyways, I side loaded both apps, they started up, I logged in and was able to browse my video library, but I was not able to play any videos. The video begins to load, but shortly after it just goes blank. I used a USB OTG cable and a mouse to navigate through the Amazon apps. (A mouse just makes it a lot easier.)
So, if you would like to try it for yourself here's what I did:
On Nexus Player:
1. Enable developer options. (Go to "Setting," under Device row go to "About," scroll down to and click "Biuld" 7 or 8 times.
2. Turn on USB debugging. (Go to "Setting," under Preferences row go to "Developer options," click on debugging and turn on USB debugging.
3. Turn on Unknown sources. (Go to "Settings," under Personal row go to "Security & Restrictions," and turn on "Unknown sources."
On computer:
1. Make sure you have the latest Android SDK installed. (and that it's up to date)
2. Place whatever apk(s) you want to install inside the "platform-tools" folder. (wherever you extracted it\adt-bundle-windows-etc..\sdk\platform-tools) Once the apk is in the folder I usually rename the app with no spaces.
3. Connect your Nexus Player to your computer.
4. Open a command window on the platform-tools folder. (Shift, Right click, "Open command window here")
5. Check that your computer actually detects your NP by typing this command: "adb devices" No quotation marks, it should show your device as something like "04fc8453e8f6d75b device" (The very first time you do this an RSA key fingerprint notification will pop up on the NP (TV screen) saying, "Allow USB debugging?" check the "Always allow from this computer" mark and then "OK."
6. If step 5 checks out, and your NP is detected then use this command to sideload/install apps: "adb install appname.apk" Again, no quotation marks. (fill in "appname" with the actual name of the app, no spaces.) If all goes well you will see a "Success" remark in the command window.
7. Check Sideload Launcher and your app should now be listed there for you to use.
**To uninstall a sideloaded app go to "Settings," under Device row go to "Apps," then under the Downloaded apps row just select an app, and you'll have the option to uninstall it.
Good luck....

I also had the same issue. Got both amazon and amazon instant video sideloaded, but just when the video is about to start playing it returns me to the main window. It also happens with the Xfinity Go app...
Any ideas why this is?

I really couldn't tell you why. My best guess is simply that these Amazon apps are not designed to work on Android TV.
I also sideloaded Popcorn Time, but it's a hit or miss. Some movies download just fine and play fine, while others get downloaded to a certain percentage and then stop and some just don't download at all. (FYI after watching a movie from Popcorn Time on the NP I always clear the cache folder in the Popcorn Time setting because some movie end up being about 2GB in size.)

Lollipop hasn't been out long enough for many apps to become compatible. Too early to tell if its a Lollipop issue or an Android TV issue. I'd assume you'll have to wait a while since I'm sure it's not a priority for Amazon to update for Lollipop since the FireTV isn't Lollipop yet either.

Yea, but what is odd is that I see mixed comments. Some people say that amazon video is working, but they don't say if it works for them or how.
Seems odd that both amazon video and xfinity apps do the same thing... Apps work fine but video won't load...

You need root, then edit the build.prop file and search for "persist.debug.wfd.enable=1" and delete #.
Change:
#persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
to:

I hope someone figures out how to install the Google Play Store app on the watch. Aptoide is difficult to use for me.
Also, I noticed that when installing an app, the Install and Cancel buttons are almost not visible at the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to scroll/drag the screen?
Many of the icons are too small for my fingers. Is there a small stylus available anywhere that works with the watch? I installed Chrome so a stylus would help with using that as well.

There are new Versions of the Apps, for watch and Phone. Take a look at
my Postst #2, give them a try. For me it's working now.
Hello Backers,
The first software update is now available and it focuses on the data transfer between the watch and your smartphone app. For those that were having issues with the app and data transfer we’ve updated the software to allow for a better experience for transferring photos from the watch to your phone.
Cloud update services are not available at this time but please follow these simple instructions to update your watch:
1. Enable Bluetooth on smartwatch & phone.
2. Connect them with eachother.
3. Enable the installation from unknown source on your watch. (settings > security > unknown source)
4. Download http://arrowsmartwatch.ml/ on your computer.
5. Once the APK is on your computer, share it via Bluetooth to your Arrow Smartwatch. (if you don’t know, just google how to share files with Bluetooth, it’s very easy)

This watch update was tested by a few beta testers within the backer community with good results. It should allow many of you that were having trouble to start transferring photos and videos from the watch to your phone. The next planned update will focuses on connectivity, apps and notifications.
As for the remaining Arrow inventory we continue to wait for Chinese customs to give us an answer on the status of our units. They said Chinese New Year would create a delay of up to a month or two so we will post an additional update soon outlining the details of this extremely frustrating and prolonged ordeal. Our goal remains to ship all remaining units to backers as soon as this custom issue is cleared.
Inquiries about the above can be sent to [email protected] as this is our primary contact method.

Thanks! Is this a new version of the OS? Or a customized version?
Hii! Not sure if people are still using the watch.. I took it out last week and again remembered why I packed it back. The battery drain is just insane!
Was anyone able to get a different OS version installed on the watch,,? Is it even possible? What are this risks?
What are my options to experiment?
Hello,
Up till now I was using Windows 10's Desktop Projection to mirror screen to my TV.
- it works phenomenally and I'm happy
However, I have another TV which isn't a smart TV, so I bought an android TV Box.
- The Android Box has a preinstalled Miracast app
I want to know a way to use my regular desktop projection to connect to Miracast but that Miracast asks me to confirm a password or PIN that only I know?
- I do not wish to install another app to my PC
- I am okay with installing apps similar to Miracast on my Android TV Box
On the internet I found various applications like LetsView, Reflector 4, AirServer, Mirroring360, ApowerMirror, ScreenBeam Configurator app, Wi-Fi Direct Password-Protected Transmitter, AnyDesk, Chrome Remote Desktop, Microsoft Remote Desktop, Miracast Widget & Shortcut app, Miracast Screen Sharing App, Connectify Hotspot, but I fail to realize the potential of all these and which one to pick based on details and preferences (the less clutter, the better. I only need the password protection option).
Is there any app that I can only install to my Android Box and use regular Desktop Projection to connect to it, but that it asks me for a PIN that I have to enter on the device which I am using to connect to that Android Box (in this case laptop)?
If not, what is the closest alternative?
Anyone?
