Custom Rom for Redmi 2 (1 gb ram/8gb rom) - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

I had already tested almost all custom roms (both MM and LP). My concern is the device is running good but if it begins to became hot, my phone lags too much. I can't multitask properly because it heats fast. I use greenify (with xposed) but nothings changed. Do I make a mistake on my setup? Or can you suggest to avoid too much heat on my phone? I use MIUI for the mean time because it multitask better. Thanks in advance.

Custom ROMs are configured for General Use.But your post makes me thing you are an advanced user.
I would recommend some kernel tweaks for you.
Stock kernel?
Start with trying different CPU governor which is good for multitasking,
Sure MiUI has more multitasking capability because of maybe it rigorous memory management.

Roms!!! R they much faster than stock?

I mean I've had many frikin phones in the pass last one before this was a sensation ...
I'm saying all this cause for the first time I find a stock rom really fast/smooth. So is it really worth it a custom rom?
And I read here and there about a browser lag? What lag? This is one or the smoothest browser I tried on a phone
Let me know what rom u running and if u really feel the difference ..remember ..to review a rom u need a couple of days ..heavy use ..right after u load a rom it would be fast and smooth that's usually the case.

im using stock KE2
one of the only reasons ive seen people use custom roms is because of the battery life .Im fine on my KE2 i can go for 2+days without a charge
I think what they mean by browser lag is that some custom ROMs have buggy browsers ..... im not sure of this
Mine is KE7 I have no problem with battery either ...

ill probably change roms a year from now so i can try the AOSP feel of CM7 or CM8 if android 4 is around the corner
basically i want to try "android" for what it is
With the brute force of dualcore and 1Gb ram, i doubt a customized ROM can make a significant difference like what it did on the SGS1. Im using KF1 ( stock with my phone ) and I have no battery or speed issues, I still have all the samsung bloat installed just for stress testing. Will be removing it maybe tomorrow.
Nah, there is no real speed difference that I can notice and I have tried every rom here exept MIUI. A number of guys are running the phone underclocked by 33% and don't notice any difference. Outside of gaming it would seem we have power to spare for the moment. I cant comment on the stock browser as I used it just long enough to figure out the text reflow blows chunks and moved over to opera. I never had a problem making it through the day and that is all the battery I require.
Still performance be it speed or improved battery life is only one aspect of custom roms. There is also the various mods, bug fixes, and extended options and functionality, that chefs throw in that make installing a rom a no brainer to me. Roms are in their infancy on this device, I expect them to get a lot more interesting after 2.3.4 drops and they mature.
I cannot see any performance difference with villainrom either. However it seems to me that the battery usage is much better than with stock rom.
With normal usage (except games) the SGS2 performs great - you just don't need to worry about speed.
@qwerty warrior:
there's a fix for the laggy browser in custom roms.
I've been using VillainRom v1.4 for a little now (tried out MIUI before which was nice but wanted something with a little less bugs.) and mainly the only reason I switched from stock was to test if the battery is any better (been getting similar to stock battery life) and to have a deodexed rom for themes. Also, I've been running my SGS II UC at 500mHz and I had experience no lag at all. Haven't played too many intensive games but, when I played Riptide GP it ran smoothly. Overall to me the main advantage to having a custom rom now (until CM or MIUI are out and stable) are for the themes available to a deodexed rom.
Hope this helps.

I'm really not happy with performance?

Hardware is fantastic, its let down by software. I will be honest on 4.4.2 performance wasn't that special either. I came from a Moto G, a phone with 1GB ram and 1.2 Quadcore CPU and performance wise it beats the S5. I upgraded to lollipop and well things have just got worse. For instance pressing the gallery takes 3+ seconds to open, same with making a call, and quite often when I hit the home button it redraws which indicates RAM is getting used up and needs free'd.
If you came from something like an S3 I'm sure this phone would seem like lightening, but coming from a stock android experience it is slow.
The question is how do I fix this? I did factoy reset after lollipop update which helps a bit but it soon bogs down again, an issue with 5.0 apparently. I have tried Nova which helps a bit but underneath its still running TW which I thinks the problem.
1)Use xtrestolite rom (free bloatware, u install only what u want..)
This is the most important thing I can suggest to you .. And flash rom fresh (I mean.. Wipe clean.. Etc)
2)if u want u can restart your phone once a day... IT will run a lot better after restart...
3)use performance governor cpu

This video has just demonstrated what I thought.
I mean how does this happen?
As mentioned above, nstall xtrestolite 4.4.2 if you want lag free, bloat free, optimized TW experience. You will get better battery, 0 lag and slowdown. It's simply butter smooth.
Don't go to TW lolipop because it's just not ready yet.
If you want to go an extra mile try CM12 based L roms like Temasek's or BlissPop variant. Pair it with ktoonsez kernel and you will practicaly have a new device.

Best way to optimize S5 for speed.

Hey guys, so I am sick and tired of the Honor 5X. So I sold that stupid thing and got an S5 as I've used them before and loved them, much snappier.
I'm all about performance. What can I / should I do to make the S5 as fast as possible. Are the custom roms faster? Should I just use Nova Launcher and leave the rest alone? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Custom ROMs makes my s5 feel snappier when opening apps, navigating UI feels much smoother and switching between tasks is quicker. You do lose some gaming/3d performance because of frequency scaling issues, but if that doesn't concern you too much, you should try either LineageOS or Resurrection Remix Nougat. Both are great options.
As for general bugs, camera lacks 4K recording and HFR (camera app crashes). Three loud beeps can be heard when people hang up during phone call. There are other issues as well but that's what I can think from the top of my head

Thank you for the advice.
The camera is a big deal to me, so I don't want to lose that functionality. I won't be using it for gaming though.
I'd advise you to stay on an official Samsung firmware (with no bugs and with a lot of exclusive features) and then install Greenify, Amplify and their xposed modules as well as to try out Boeffla Kernel. My S5 is snappier than ever with my current setup which you may see in my signature below this post. Cheers

Try this. It's custom ROM based on stock ROM without loosing stock camera funcionality.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-superlite-mini-mm-v1-0-361mb-g900w8-t3497158
I've been using it for couple of months. Combined with Boeffla kernel, Xpossed framework, amplify, greenify even viper4android sound mode, it comes with the best performance for me.
I'm not much into greenify/amplify. Never noticed much difference from using them. Xposed is super useful no doubt.
I'm very interested in Boeffla Kernel. Seems like it might definitely be worthwhile.

Yes, it may be fair enough to just try SuperLite ROM as it does not include bloatware found in original stock rom. Then use Boeffla Kernel.

Game lagging/slow internet

Hi everyone.
These days mostly every C.ROM has game lagging issues.
Whether it's AEX or Tesla.
(I mentioned the name of these two ROMs 'cause these ROMs used to be my favourite ones).
Every ROM lags, some lags high some lags low.
Not only lagging, also there's an internet slow issue.
Which makes it very irritating for a gamer.
(Games such as Clash of Clans, or 8 Ball Pool).
The ROM works fine in daily usage, but at gaming point almost every ROM has issues.
What is causing device to lag while playing games?
Also, why device's internet goes down when playing games or when device is hot?
MIUI ain't has such lagging or internet issues.
(I'm not saying MIUI is best, it's bad at many points such as Memory Management, Notification Management, Heavy UI, Android Updates, Bloated.. But after having so much bad in it, It has stability for no lagging, or internet)
I just wanna ask devs/users, why is it so?
I know, MIUI is stable because of it's kernel, and Xiaomi doesn't release kernel sources.
But when there is no lagging issues in day to day usage, then why is there so much lagging in Games?
Try Mokee 7, no lag in games, i.e. Clash Royale.
Thanks for this post dude...

using aosp caf arm64, had similar issues before using this rom.
now no heating or Internet problem while gaming.
What rom did you use?
Every time after downloading and flashing a custom ROM... After a week of use... Revert back to miui due to camera and audio output better in miui... No lags in normal gaming... No internet speed issues...Miui Most Stable.?

I'm using custom ROMs because of the double tap to wake. Is it possible in MIUI?

there are miui kernel's that support double tap to wake , but it didn't work in my phone.
I tried in custom roms and it worked but SOT is poor.

I'm currently on Miui KitKat Global official (rooted and custom recovery) works like charm.
I tried to use 2 operating system in my phone.
Miui in internal and AOSP Caf 64bit in sd card.
But managing 2 Roms in once is a waste of time.
Deleted sd card and reverted back to normal.

I did it today, flashed Jerrica Kernel for MiUi by Premaca (this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-2/development/kernel-jerrica-v1-1-t3395691). The ROM I've used is: "Version: V8.5.2.0.LHJMIED (MIUI8) - Stable" from official site http://en.miui.com/download-261.html (the developer one takes me to bootlop :/)

Yup bootloop issues have been faced by too many users,
That kernel work's only for older Miui 8 version, miui 8.5etc won't work.
if you're facing lags try one of my favourite trick
Just delete thermal management algorithm that exist on nougat based ROMS, its located at system/etc/thermal-engine.conf. so you will gain no lags when the phone's getting hot. At the cost of more battery drainage but for me that's worth it. Also if you're facing WiFi disconnecting problem try port wifi configuration from MIUI ROM in, system/etc/wifi copy all itu system, and set permission to rw-r-r, make sure you backup the orig file in case you need it. I always that when using nougat based ROM. Now switched to MIUI due to stability. I currently using octopus kernel and double tap 2 wake works like charm on MIUI 8.5.2.0

Best Rom for RN7 3-32GB

Hi!
I recently bought a Redmi Note 7 as my daily driver and so far it works like a charm, but by mistake I took the 3-32 version instead of the 4-64. I'm running the latest global stable MIUI 11 rom, so far it works fine, fluid enough with very few bugs and good battery life.
The issue is that Global Stock rom eats too much ram, leaving little space to have multiple apps open so I'm looking for a rom that doesn't use too much ram/has a good ram management so I can have more apps running at the same time. It has to be stable enough for a daily driver use (I have other phones to experiment with).
Some options I have been looking for:
Xiaomi.eu: I like MIUI so it can be a nice option as far as I can see, but IDK if it improves the ram consumption/management issue.
some AOSP based rom: I come from a almost clean android phone so I can consider an AOSP-based rom, but I'm not sure which one serves my purpose the best. I'm testing Pixel Experience in a spare phone (Mi5) and seems to work nice, but not sure about its ram management
About storage, just got a new SD card for saving my media, but I'm not convinced to use Adoptable Storage (is that recommended anyway?), so no major worries here, but less system used space is appreciated too.
Let me know what do you think/recommend
Thanks!
you can simply use custom kernel and use zram, it should be enough I guess, I have 1.2-1.4 gb of free ram
custom roms are trash, always something doesn't work and battery backup is piece of sh...
are there more tweaks for the 32 gb model for better ram management ?
I have a redmi note 7 3/32 gb.and i am facing ram management issue but now my device is running good in ram management with flash a predator 5.6 kernel.
You can try this kernel.
You can debloat MIUI 11 with Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools.
Also you can try AOSP Extended or Havoc, both are good custom Roms.
How much difference has a kernel mod in a phone?
Well, it seems MIUI is has a too aggressive RAM management that causes most of my apps to be killed while multitasking. For now I'm using Pixel Experience and so far it works really good with insane battery backup. Will try others recommended as well as soon as I have some spare time to mod my phone.
On the other side, I tried the Xiaomi.EU rom, but I didn't like it. I guess if I do not find any suitable rom for my needs and once global miui updates to Android 10 (it seems China roms are already updated) will try it debloated.
Thanks for the advice
