My positive experience with Sony Xperia 2 year warranty. - Xperia Z2 General

Just thought I'd share a positive customer service story with regards my nearly 2 year old device. A common fault among Z2's is the back panel peeling off the back because of failing adhesive. I sent my fairly well used (some scratches on the frame, wonky power button, scratched camera glass..) phone off to be repaired and got essentially a brand new phone sent back to me! All I can imagine is they have a large stock of outer cases in the warehouse as the fault was just the back panel not the whole outer casing! If you're close to the end of your warranty and have some issues that might be covered, I had a very positive experience when I sent my phone in for repair and so might you!

my z2 had an issue with the LCD , the glas wasn't broken or the LCD. The LCD was shown some crap thing, like a frozen Display.
Also the Power Button, had some issue, sometimes the phone goes in standby, by reading, gaming or something else.
And the camera had a kind of fog on the pictures.
And yes I got a brand new z2 back

For me it's exactly the opposite, I sent the phone for a 3.5mm jack repair and they told me my screen was broken and that I had to pay.

Busted Outer Glass of LCD

Well I dropped my G1 the other day and it busted the outer glass part. The LCD is fine and it still works perfect. I have looked everywhere,with no luck of finding any parts for them. So I called HTC and they told me 150-250 to replace the glass!! So I was wondering if any one know anyone that does G1 Repair or if anyone know of another phone that has more ava. parts for it with a 3.17" Screen? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Nope, I got AT&T. Was thinking of taking apart the phone and getting the glass measurements and having a custom cut piece of glass.

I read that the same screen is in use on the iphone 3g, I doubt its true they probably meant type or sumthin, maybe worth a check...
on the old palm pdas you could replace just the glass if the layer under it isn't damaged, this may no longer be possible with these screens, once the bigtime flashing begins there will be lots of bricks available pretty cheap, maybe you should keep an eye out for somebody who pooched the dev bootloader install then after you convince them they killed it you could buy it maybe for less than the HTC price...
gotta say, that sucks if you were a tmob customer you'd have a few options...

I've never had a broke phone since my Nokia 8210.
Well, some idiot had placed out one of those kinds of plastic bands you use to seal packages with, a black one.
It was pitch dark and I fell as the plastic ring got snared around my feet. Obviously my Jabra bt3030 got pushed against the screen and it got severely cracked.
My insurance company seems to be covering the whole phone except a small sum. This was from the phone part, but I got to see if I can get something from the health insurance as I hit my head and scratched my hand (though not likely but I can always try)
The touch seems to work most of the time, though it reacts slowly but some times It's just dead.
This really sucks.
I'm dead serious when I'm talking that there was no way that the band could be seen when walking.

It is glass. But you can not simply cut a piece of glass to the same dimension as the touchscreen is integrated into the glass cover. So yes you will need to get a htc or aftermarket replacement part.
The interesting thing is that the repair cost you quoted is identical to the cost of the copay if you go with the Asurion device insurance T-mo offers. So device insurance would just be a waste of money at $5 a month if you end up with broken glass.
Looks like I will just have to hold onto it until aftermarket parts come out. I busted mine by letting it slip out of my hand while talking on it....then it took a 6ft fall to eventually land face first on concrete.....I didnt even wanna pick it up cause i new it was messed up and if it wasnt I was gonna call HTC and give them props! I have a ava. upgrade from AT&T Maybe get a Iphone until this one gets fixed then sale iphone on ebay for 5x wuts its worth.
The iphone's screen seems to crack pretty nice as well.
I hope changing the glass on the G1 isn't as frustrating as on the Iphone.

Cracked screen replacement with compatible HW from third party --when?
I cracked the LCD of my G1 after about three weeks and have noted that neither PPCTechs nor MobileKangaroo have yet acquired a source for the replacement screen.
My understanding is that HTC currently charges what one thread in another forum (http://www.allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4226) quoted as "a minimum of $238.00" to make this repair.
I expect this repair to be offered soon by third parties for about $150, likely using a non-HTC screen product to replace the damaged one.
Has anyone heard any reports about forthcoming availability of such hardware? If so, then are there any non-HTC services to make the replacement?

This waht i found out
so have the same issue and this is what I found out
so from my understanding there are 2 part to the lcd the outer glass touch sensor and the inner lcd. if the the screen is just cracked and you can see the image the u have to replace both. attached are the part descriptions fromt he g1 service manual. and below is a link of a site that sells them, but for some reason they sell the touch scrren with the outer bezel making it cost more. i called htc to order just the touch sensor glass but they said the dont sell replacements, they just fix em

I contacted the seller of the screen and he/she told me that It's only the screen. If the G1 cracks It's the digitizer glass that cracks first. Then if you are unlucky the screen cracks as well. I managed to only crack the digitizer glass. The screen beneath is totally fine. Unfortunately removing the glass from the digitizer plastic was very painful and I managed to wreck the flat cable of the digitizer so that's beyond repair. Now I tried to disassemble the whole phone but I got stuck at removing the housing. First I had problems with the Torx bits. I have some Torx bits in my sets but the lowest I got was T8. I had to buy a cellphone bits set with a lot of different types of bits. It had Torx all the way down to T4. The T5 and T6 was what I needed. There are 4 T5 to remove and one T6. I have inserted the sharp plastic between the housing and the top case and released all hooks but it seems the front and back part of the housing of the phone is dead stuck.
You have to open the whole damn phone from the back to get to the inside of the screen. Why the screen housing uses standard Philips is also beyond me. I have lots of bad experience with standard Philips screws. The heads always get bad after a while of screwing. I have yet to have a problem with Torx.

Another screen broken advice needed

Hello all,
I bought a Galaxy S4 for my partner, and stupidly didn't get it insured.
The screen got cracked quite badly, so fr £120 a local lad put a new screen on. Later that week it got dropped onto mud on the way to nursery and smashed entirely.
I now have a predicament, either give up the phone and go back to my sluggish s3, or ask you guys this question:
Where is the best and most value for money place to get a smashed screen fixed (you can't see anything just a rim of light) somewhere reputable that will use genuine parts and guarantee their work? I really don't want to just leave it on the shelf and am worried that without good advice I will end up with another shabby repair.
Your input would be greatly appreciated.

If you only break the front glass like what happened to mine, you can get new glass for £5 and DIY. (If you're confident working on things like that - it is a bit of a nightmare of a job to separate the glass from the touch sensor)
But if there's no picture on the screen at all then you've killed it completely. A new full screen assembly is about £90 on eBay I think, so £120 is about the right price for someone to do it for you.
BTW, the first time you broke your screen, if you could still see the picture on the screen was fine, then the guy probably charged you £120 to change the £5 front glass. I've heard of people getting ripped off like that.

ha, the first time the phone broke, my misses threw it against a metal door obliterating the top and matrix thingy so an extensive repair was required. I'm well aware of the £5 DIY jobby hairdryer thing but this second breaking is again both screens, and I don't want a shabby repair I want the original screen part so that it is as strong as it can possibly be. I paid this guy £120, but the screen was so weak it broke dropping on mud! SO I still need to know, where can I get it fixed with genuine Samsung parts? Samsung only? Are the any reputable companies members would use to have their £500 phones repaired?

In pretty sure there aren't any fake AMOLED screens, not like phones that use LCD - there are hundreds of fake LCD's for those phones. But there are fake front glass panels.
If I wanted to make sure that genuine parts were used I'd order the screen assembly up from eBay myself. You can order it up as a complete front assembly from eBay, and it's a very easy job to change the whole thing over yourself, if you're reasonably confident about tackling things like that. Just make sure it's described as 'Genuine Samsung', and not 'Samsung panel genuine for i9505' or suchlike. If it's described as 'Genuine Samsung', then you have comeback of its not.
I've fixed a good few phones though, and all the times I've ordered parts as I've described above, it has been the real deal. It's pretty easy to tell the fake front glass panels.
Changing the front glass only with hairdryer etc is a sh!tty job, but changing a whole front panel which has the chrome effect plastic trim piece, AMOLED, touch sensor, and front glass already assembled is a piece of p!ss...
I would totally recommend just getting it fixed... plenty of tutorials online to follow. Watch a few of them and see if it is something you are comfortable doing yourself. I've done it and found it to be quite simple. But, it all depends on your comfort level with repairing things...

I was saying though that since it's the whole thing that is broken and needs changed, and not just the front glass, the job is much easier. It's just a case of taking a few screws out and swapping the whole front assembly. On a difficulty rating out of 10 I give it a 4
If you watch a couple of videos on YouTube first, and you take it nice and carefully, I'd say this is a job that most people could handle.

Case: Warranty denied > Self repair

Thought id post here about my Xperia Z3 and how things went from great to worse. Bought the phone last November here in Finland and was a happy little peasant with a brand new phone. Loved the phone but quite early on I think i managed to break the back glass myself (?). I didn't drop it, it just cracked... The phone was denied warranty back then due to mechanical preassure (saying it's my own fault it cracked). Well that was no biggie as it was just the back cover and it didn't make hte usability of the phone any worse than it was. And it may as well be that I've broken it myself, not being carefull enough. Picture #1, #2, #3. Sorry for the poor quality, but as you can see there's no damage on the sides indicating it being dropped, but still it could be my own fault.
Fast forward half a year and I noticed that my phone had a yellow tint on it's display right next to the micro-usb port. I took the phone for warranty and waited a few weeks. The local service company denied warranty due to improper use of the device quoting the phone being bent, cracked rear cover and the LCD screen glue being broken. I was really surprised and I hadn't noticed the bending or the glueing being an issue. Received the pictures and it indeed was bent and the lcd screen glue was torn. Still, the phone wasn't mishandled in any way, well it did drop a few times but nothing major.

Well there's no denying those pictures. To be honest, I would have expected the phone to not bend (keep it in my front pocket) and havn't taken the phone with me to sports or anything like that. So my phone was denied warranty as all damage to the phone was not due to poor build quality but to improper usage of the device. Took the phone to my local reseller where I bought the phone for consumer complaint as I couldn't have in any way be held accountable for the LCD screen defect or the poor glue. Bending ok, mayby... but still think this is a little bit far fetched and the rear cover i can definately be held accountable for. But the screen? Really? The service center said that the phone would need to be replaced completely. Sony official response was that it's not due to build quality issues but to damage caused by improper use of the device. They stood behind the service center and device is officially out of warranty now.
Well I did order spare parts and replace the LCD screen glue myself, and the back cover was held tight but the LCD screen wasn't. I managed to almost pull out the complete screen without heating it up first. As a result the glue came off in a wierd way as seen in the picture here. I really doubt the way the screen was glued could be my fault and has to be an manufacturing error.
Anyway, this is my story with my Xperia Z3 phone. Now i'm stuck with a faulty LCD screen that has burnt yellow tint close to the micro-usb port and it's a really ****ty way to keep the phone for another 12 months or so untill it's paid off (24months payment). TL: DR: Phone denied warranty (yellow tint on LCD, LCD gluing broken, bent phone and cracked rear glass. Last two might be my fault, but the first two couldn't be. Warranty service and Sony claim i've caused all damange to phone. Can't say i agree
they are right... NO ONE would approve warranty when there is physical damage....
They always have to prove that the defect you want them to repair was caused by you. So physical damage is not always enough for them to reject a warranty repair.
In this case, however, I can easily imagine both defects being caused by you bending the phone, so I'm not that surprised they denied your claim...
Whatever. I spent ~$160 fixing my phone. Both sides glass broken and phone unusable. Under std warranty (bought through expansys-usa.com) sent to sony/texas, waited about 3 weeks (forever) and rcvd a brand new phone back. Back is once again cracked. I will say this. Unless a proper case comes out, I won't be buying any more sonys. The best hard case now is the lovemei ($35) imo. Carrying case? Maxpedition TC-2. With a lovemei case get a TC-3.
I have the Z3 since it came out, bought it right at release. Only use a soft case, always have it in my front pocket. It's with me when I ride my bike and I took pictures of the kids in the water. So far no issues, except two bright spots in the lower part of the screen. So far I've been too lazy to get it repaired/exchanged.
Same for me too. 5 months old and its the 3rd time I sent it to Sony because of warranty.
Screen cracked for no reason.
The reasons before were Bluetooth not working and battery dieing.
Definitely my last Sony.

Screen cracked for no reason, strange...maybe it is not cracked at all...maybe you have some sort of hallucination when you look at it, and it happens only to you and only when you look at it...

No front or back cracks or damage for me yet. I got mine back in March and installed tempered glass on the front which I broke the other day. The only issue I have is yellowing around the soft keys caused by me I think. Front pocket and I basically do parkour at work as a residential window cleaner I jump a lot of gates and fences everyday. To be perfectly honest I'm surprised the phone is still in 100% condition on the outside. [emoji12]

The point was that they pinned all of the damage on me and claimed I was responsible for the poor glue used with the LCD screen and the screen errors as well while I could in no way have done that damage by using the device. And I really doubt a cracked back cover and the slight bending could cause either of the problems with the screen. The idea was to share how it went down and perhaps to be of use to someone. Seems though it won’t be so let this post be buried.
Sure I’m a little bit surprised a device could even bend and thought it was just something that would happen if deliberately done. Never had that with any previous phone from any manufacturer. I will buy smaller phones next time or sturdier ones so I can keep them with me. Not saying it’s a common problem as it surely isn’t, just going to make different desisions in the future.

most of your complaint is based round the fact that you broke it.
why should they replace something you broke? crash a car a week after buying and see if the car salesman will replace it for you?
the is insurance for a reason, maybe you google the difference between warranty and insurance.
i dont want hideous screws on the back of my phone because a select few are clumsy
i think its a great phone. fast, great design although i do have 1 complaint, it is a very slippy phone

The reason for you not being able to open the back cover is that you're not supposed
to open the cover on this waterproof phone...
Next time you buy a phone, google for "Rugged" and do some research.

If it cracks you need to remove it which is 'glued on' and the glass will make your fingers bleed when it cracks.
All this "DRM key" fuss... and low light this cam is seriously rubbish.
I have had really a lot of Sony products and the quality was always very convincing but this "Sony-Ericsson" (yes it's still ericsson as sony bought that part and then named it both sony) is just very disappointing, not even mid-quality.
So now my device is a cracked back (already the second device the first got replaced by warranty) and a permanent yellow tint on the left half of the screen which i can be happy about the premiumness for the next few years, as i don't have cash for another phone.
And when I sent it to service for replacement "oops we won't pay this, this is your demage" I had this device just around 3 months an the other which got replaced didn't also last longer than ca. 3 months. What a joke!
Just for comparing, I've had a S4 mini Samsung for one year and it even fell on the pavement and nothing happened. The screen ain't got any scratch and I even sold it again for a decent price.

So let's put it in clear way, you are a lamer, who broke it's phone and blames manufacturer.
There are things to be said. First of all, the quality of the phone is excellent, compared to other "premium" mobiles like Samsung or LG. The reason why the back cover is glued, is that the phone is sold as waterproof. Service professionals, and people who know what they are doing, have proper knowledge (!) and tools to open it.
My Z3 got yellowish area on right side of the phone around Power button after 1 year of use. I admit I dropped it couple of times, but I use wireless charging case which provides excellent protection against scratches. Display, touchscreen, glass, sides and speakers were exchanged by my provider (1&1) free of charge. Later on I discovered that using flash causes green halo effect on pictures, probably camera lenses got misaligned during repair. Again, the camera part was exchanged free of charge.
The mobile phone, specially with glass front and back, is a precise and delicate device. And you knew it before you bought it. So blaming Sony for your own disability is not fair.

strip of touchscreen completely unresponsive..?

The centre strip of my touchscreen doesn't respond to any touch input, it's a perfectly straight strip in the middle of my phone. The glass is not broken, the phone is in great condition...
I can't reclaim on the warranty as not in the US atm, nor can I give up the phone before my warranty expires..
Same problem even in TWRP so definitely hardware related.
Any advice on a fix?

If this phone was easy to open up I'd say pop it open and make sure the digitizer ribbon cable is firmly seated on the motherboard. Long shot, but if a few pins aren't making good contact maybe you could see some behavior like you're describing.
However, with the non-removable back and the fixed battery where it is this isn't the simplest check. You need a heat gun or a hair dryer just to get it open. Maybe watch some screen replacement videos and see if you feel like you're up to taking it apart yourself.
Also, tampering with this has potential to void your warranty, assuming it is intact.
My Pure has the same exact issue except it's directly on the nav bar. It happened after it was dropped. I used gravity box to raise the nav bar height by 20% and that fixed the issue of me not being able to use the home, back, and multitask buttons. Much easier than taking the phone apart.
This happened to me so i filed a claim with squaretrade. Online, they tried to replace it with a moto x (first generation) so, i quit trying online and called in for a claim. They don't have this device so they paid me out in cash. I had to pay $70 deductible and within 7 days, i received a check for $479. Then i bought a new one with bamboo back for just under $400 with Amazon prime. Winning.
I did call a local shop and they said they could fix it for $80. But, mine was from water damage so, i didn't want to risk it having more issues later.

I have the same issue. On mine. But it's actually on the nav keys I sent it for repair but they sent it back and no repair was done . Worst things they sent it even worst now I have going touches. No crack screen or anything. Definitely not buying another Moto product

Who did you send it in to for repair? It's obviously a problem with the digitizer. It can be caused by too much pressure being applied to the screen, water damage, or trauma to the screen. A crack isn't necessary for this to happen. It can and does happen on any brand of device. I wouldn't blame the manufacturer unless they were the ones you sent it to for repair. A local shop should be able to fix it for under $100.
