Hey Guys,
I'm using a N9005 as my phone. For syncing "work" email an 3. Party MDM App is required. Because of the bad battery life I rooted the phone (knox 0x1) and installed Greenify and a custom kernel. It worked great but because I did a full wipe I needed to install the MDM App again.
Now I am not able to encrypt the device and the MDM tells me that my phone is compromised. I don't know if it is because of root or the missing encryption, knox 0x1 or the kernel?
Anyone has an idea what I can do now (except flashing stock)?
Is there any chance to get a great battery life again without root?
Thanks.

Revert back to Stock kernel at least, it'll be the kernel that will cause the issue because it isn't signed Official, you don't use the KNOX container so that won't be the issue - Although triggering KNOX does stop the device from being encrypted.. but try changing the kernel and see.. It probably won't work though.
I've attached Stock MK2 kernel if you need it.

Thanks. But it didn't help. I flashed the stock kernel. When I try to encrypt, the screen goes black and the phone reboots after approx. 30 sec.
I reinstalled MDM but it still shows "compromised".

Well when KNOX is tripped you can't encrypt your device, you can try going back to full stock and see, but it doesn't work afaik. Have a gander round the forum you'll see some people posting about it.

Interesting thar Encryption works after triggering KNOX, some conflicting reports that it does not.. Good to know none the less.
Yes you can root but it will wipe and destroy encryption. Encryption not working after root seems to be a common 4.3 bug.

Question for anyone who can answer it correctly; would un rooting a phone (with knox tripped) and installing a fresh stock firmware then re-rooting it with this method and placing a custom rom on it would keep the knox un touched or would it still be tripped?

Didn't really want to hear that but oh well. I bought my phone unlocked online so no need for any warranty, I'm pretty confident in myself to know how to fix an internal problem if I have one (or external). Thank you for the reply

custom recovery will trip knox
I also successfully rooted my tmobile M919 on 4.4.2 with towelroot. I then installed SU from chainfires site and next installed CWM from ROM manager. My knox counter is tripped, but oh well.
The thing I have noticed is that, since root, some applications that want to access the SD card are having trouble. For instance, Flipboard opens and runs ok, but there are no pictures. Kindle reading app cannot downnload my book to the device. It will sync them, but hangs when asked to download them. ESPN app would not download podcasts, UNTIL I switched the storage location from external to internal storage. (I ttried to change the Cache from external to internal in flipboard, but the application force closes everytime i try to make that switch - another indication that certain apps are having trouble with extrnal storage.
I have tried another SD card, but still no go.
Any ideas? Thanks
(also, if I were to decide to unroot, would the simplest way be to do it through SU ?

Kitkat blocked SD access so I was told. Use SD Fix to fix that, basically it opens up your SD card for write access.
Or any other SD fixer apps in play store.. You need root.
Hi, I have used 2 diferent sd fix apps from play store. They say the issue is fixed, but in reality, it is not. My kitkat is 4.4.2 and is rooted. Any other suggestion, please?
HI, did anyone manage to get towelroot to work on lollipop stock TW for s4 LTE? Mine said "device npt supported"
Hi gurus. first off, bought my first note 4 some days ago.. always thought the note series would be too big a phone for me.. what have i been thinking??? this is hands down the best phone i have ever had.. cant remember the last time a phone gave me this feeling..
but I am at a crossroad here.. i really REALLY miss root, but a little hesitant regarding tripping the e-fuse/knox/warranty. havent had a Samsung since the S4 was newly released.
I do not want to flash custom roms, just root stock and debloat and titanium backup, xposed, ad blocking etc..
in this regard, towelroot, stumproot is genius i think, and still able to receive OTA. but does not work on the note 4 of course.
but what happens when Lollipop arrives, seem to remember that the L would be different regarding root? should i wait to root until the Lollipop update arrives, should be here soon for our devices..
do you think there will be a workaround for the e-fuse trippin?
in general, whats your thoughts about this..?
my phone is the Snapdragon, SM-N910F.
Don't hold your breath for a root that doesn't trip Knox, and don't worry about it unless you work for a corporation that requires the use of Knox.
Chainfire had already proven root on devices with LP; I don't see any reason to wait. Being rooted doesn't often seem to be a problem regarding warranty.
Thanks for your reply rcobourn. Would one be able to receive ota with Chain fire auto root? What's the preferred rooting method when only going stock.?
Will root make Private Mode unusable?
I don't care about voiding warranty with knox 1 or 0x1, but I want knox Private mode to work on a Rooted exynos.
Any one knows if rooted knox still works or it must disabled with Titanium Backup?

CF breaks OTA as I found out the hard way, it tried to auto install and soft bricked itself last night. Easy fix, just flash the latest firmware from sammobile.
As for private mode that is only broken if you use Xposed without Xsecurestorage

Not if it's rooted. Flash using ODIN, dunno what it's like now but in the S2 days Kies was an awful piece of crap, whereas ODIN always worked perfectly.

I highly doubt Kies will work properly, although it does tell me when there is an update for my phone when rooted so it might but I personally wouldn't try it as it most likely will do the same thing as letting it install the OTA automatically and soft brick it

First of all, I believe, most of the people using XDA forums possess enough eyesight to view things in normal font. (and if not, there are numerous tools available to help them read or even listen to what is written). So you don't need to make your writing so big and bold that looks harsh. If you want to emphasize, you can use emoticons/smilies (that is what they are meant for). I don't want to be rude but to keep this platform clean and nice is OUR responsibility. Hope you don't mind.
As for as your problem, I think you have to flash back the stock recovery and (even the stock rom if the problem persists). Do some more research before taking any step or wait for solutions from experts. I believe guys will see your post soon
Best of luck :good:
Ohhhh hmm i understood. Waiting for reply. Thank you

Rooting or Installing Custom Recovery = Knox 0x1. There's nothing you can do about it. You cannot change it back to 0x0. It is permanent. No more warranty.
For the error you need to disable knox. Read here on how to disable knox.

Thanks for valueable reply. i tried that non rooted method. But the problem still persists.

As much as I know for now, the knox once tripped is impossible to recover. May be there is some hardware switch thing associated with it. Anyhow, I think it does not make much difference because knox can only be a problem if you ever want to reclaim your warranty or re-sale the device. In my case, I am 99% sure that the device is working perfect to my needs and I don't have to claim the warranty or resale it within the warranty period. So if you don't have to claim warranty and also you don't want to re-sale, tripped knox is nothing to worry about
best of luck :good:
Hello,
I have a galaxy s4 on 4.4.2 that I rooted using kingroot a while back. It is a US Cellular SCH-R970. Knox has not been tripped. Under device status it says the phone is custom. This means I cannot update to 5.0.1.
My question is, how would I return the phone to official status without 1. Tripping knox, and 2. Keeping all of my data. Also, do you know if I can root with kingroot once I get on 5.0.1.
Baseband is R970TYUFNK1.
Thank You!
Hi,
Flash a proper complete stock firmware via ODIN. Firmware for R970TYUFNK1 is R970TYUFNK1 (itself).

SamMobile, Samsung Updates, or via SamFirm app. I usually rely on SamFirm.
Edit: As long as Re-partition and NAND Erase All is unticked on Odin, it should be fine.
PS Note: You can install newer firmware over your current firmware via Odin, too.

It would be wise to backup and wipe data before flashing. Otherwise you might encounter problems.
And do not use kingoroot to root lollipop. It used to not work or cause problems. Use cf autoroot method, if your device is supported.

Having knox triggered is just a bunch of crap from Samsung to scare you. Unless you actually use knox. Or if you are afraid from losing your warranty. Which is also crap, because, whilst reading the warranty file, I saw that it won't cover water damage, it won't cover a broken screen and a bunch of other stuff. The only thing it covers is actual hardware failure. And if the phone is new, that's pretty unlikely. Even if it does fail, Samsung has no way to see if knox has been triggered until they change your hardware and are able to boot up the phone. At that point they can't refuse to take it into warranty service anymore.

Wow, that warranty is a load of ****. Also the phone is over a year old so I'd doubt it's still under warranty anyway.
What would you recommend to make a backup? I don't have fast Internet at all (300 kbps down), so I think a local backup would be more efficient.
Thanks for all the help! Have a good Christmas!

Marshmallow roms have been split into gsm and cmda, due to changes in the radio. You have a cmda device.
The initial build of aosp marshmallow was for both cmda and gms devices. The newest build (the december 24th build) is split into two. Gsm version has been released but cmda version needs more work.
So you will have to download the 6th december build which was unified. Or the lollipop builds.
Lollipop builds have a different thread and a different link.
