UPDATE: Added a poll to see the popularity of different models
Hi guys. I just bought a Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016), J5108 one. J5108 is a variant in China and TGY(Hong Kong).
I know that J510F & J510FN have received android 6.0 update already. As all J5 variants (included both 2015 & 2016) share the same chipset (MSM8916 Qualcomm Snapdragon 410), I guess ROMs can be ported among all J5 device. If you own a J5 2016 device, please leave a comment or add my Google+(in profile) or Telegram: JasonYuen
Latest Firmware android version (updated in 2017/Mar/22):
SM-J5108, SM-J510FN, SM-J510F, SM-J510GN, SM-J510H, SM-J510K, SM-J510L, SM-J510S, SM-J510Y and SM-J510MN: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Details: Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) was announced at 2016 April. It has a 5.20 inch Super-AMOLED display with a resolution of 720x1280. It process a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 CPU, which is the same with its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy J5 (J500). It has Adreno 306 GPU.
Edit: there is some more Galaxy J5 (2016) models: SM-J5108, SM-J510FN, SM-J510F, SM-J510GN, SM-J510H, SM-J510K, SM-J510L, SM-J510S, SM-J510Y and SM-J510MN.

Look under this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=67509158 and you would be able to root your phone easily without any issue. I tried rooting my phone using this method without any issue.

Hi everyone. As our J5(6) doesn't have magnetic field sensors, is it really not possible to play Pokemon Go on this phone?
Any idea to play it?
Edit: nothing, I found the way to play it
Here's my video about J5 2016 vs S7 Edge!
My J5 2016 (SM-J5108) is still on Android 5.1.1
Guys any idea to port android 6.0.1 to SM-J5108?
As here's TWRP recovery now, I think we can port Marshmallow to it, with using J510F/H 6.0 firmware as base ROM
I'll be starting a project at Github, if you are interested just leave a comment or PM to me, then we can work together :highfive:

What does one need to do to be able to play that game on this phone? What are your overall experiences with this device?
My girlfriend plans to buy one of these J5 2016 phones, and she wants to play Pokemon Go, so it is quite important for us, if it requires hacks to get the game working
Also, if you have any crazy project ideas for the phone (if it's even BL unlocked), please post it, so I can kill my time with more stuff

I have J5 (2015) and i can play pokemon go just fine , the only thing which doesnt work is catching the pokemon trough your camera (AR mode) which requires gyroscope which J5 doesnt have...
I think it will work just fine with the new J5 , you just wont be able to use the camera to catch pokemons (which could be most important thing on the game tho...)
you need gyroscope for pokemon go (if you want to catch pokemons in "real enviroment") not magnetic sensor (that one is required for VR and you also need gyroscope with it for VR )
This is what it looks like without AR mode(attachment)

Yeah actually I could still play Pokemon Go on J5 2016, but just as @Pietro007 mentioned that the phone can't use camera when you see the Pokemon, but still able to play without the AR mode (a fake green grass background emulated by the app with a Pokemon on front of it)
About the phone project, when J5108(my model) got official Marshmallow update, then we can start making custom ROMs (such as Grace UX of the Note 5)
PS. All J5 2016 got Marshmallow update except in China variants :/ horrible Samsung
Working Xposed
Greetings,
Any idea what xposed framework ver that work in this device?

Hi there! Xposed framework version depends on your device's Android version and whether it's on 32 or 64 bit.
You can download Antutu to see whether 32/64bit and check android version beforehand
Then go to this thread by Wanam there's detailed instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960/page488
PS 32bit=ARM, 64bit=ARM64
Good luck!

I also found a good thread from http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960
and the xposed framework ver that compatible with Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 is this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591020540824281

Guys have you checked out the Grace UX of note 5 and it's ported apps? It's so cool!
Just show some screenshots when you have installed it
Sadly I'm still on lollipop :/

I am not a dev but own the SM-J108. It is a great phone, but I would sure like to install custom recovery, remove bloatware, root and add custom rom. Please keep me posted on any developments.
Greetings, got few question
1. Anyone know how to set the device selinux to permisive mode?. Already try selinux mode changer but didnt work the app was unable to gain root access even my phone already rooted.
2. How transfer large game data to external sd like gameloft game, only android obb files work
I have this phone , model SM-J510FN
I own J5108, 5.1.1; it's full of bloatware, full screen ads showing up from time to time.
Will it not work if some other firmware like J510F or J510FN is installed on it?
If no firmware is available, is there at least a way to root and clean it up?

There's TWRP recovery for SM-J510_
Flash SuperSU zip in recovery to attain root
Not sure whether it works on our SM-J5108, but you can give it a try
Here's the link to thread

PS. KNOX counter will be tripped, warranty will be void.
Btw which firmware of J5108 you are using?
Check it out by going to Settings, About device, Baseband version
TGY firmware is less bloated, China's firmware is more bloated
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
Baseband version is J5108ZMU1APC2
Didn't work.
Odin tries to upload the firmware, quickly skips through several steps and reboots the phone in 5 seconds with no changes made. All the steps are taken - usb drivers, usb debugging mode on, recovery mode.

Tried KingRoot apk as well. Says it can't be rooted yet.
Some observations: when the phone boots, it shows these two red and white lines at the top:
kernel is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit: kernel
and About phone -> Status -> Device status says
"The operating system on your device has been modified and may not be secure. It may also increase battery power consumption and reduce usage time. Contact customer service at"
which might mean that something fishy is already been made to this device

Hey there i have question about the j327P (Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge) that i bought yesterday, I've been searching for a official TWRP & ROOT thread for this phone and had no luck. But i ended up doing my own research and gained a little more information about the phone, it is running a Snapdragon 425 (CPU) and it's also running an Adreno 308 (GPU) along with Marshmallow 6.0.1 (OS).
I later did more research about what phone has the exact same specs as the j327P and if the other phone has a ROOT method along with TWRP. It ended up being an Xiaomi Redmi 4a having a Snapdragon 425 (CPU) an Adreno 308 (GPU) & Marshmallow 6.0.1 (OS). It also has a TWRP & ROOT (SuperSU) method and wondered if i could use those files for the j327P.
And yes i’m aware that the TWRP has to be a tar file so it can be able to put on odin. But i'm wondering if these files can be used to root the j327P?
Lets Find Out

Hi
I have a samsung galaxy s8 SM-G950U I bought from AT&T and got it career unlocked by AT&T. I am not getting OTA updates since I unlocked it in April 2017. My phone details are as below. I contacted AT&T and samsung both of them were of no help in updating the device to latest version as I unlocked the device and no longer with AT&T. Can someone please suggest which rom/firmware to flash so that I get OTA updates directly from Samsung rather than depending on any career. I am currently using TMobile sim card in my unlocked at&t s8 by the way.
Model number: SM-G950U
Android Version: 7.0
Android Security Patch level: April 1, 2017
Baseband Version: G950USQU1AQDE
Kernel version: 4.4.16-11131491 [email protected] #1 Thu Apr 27 15:45:09 KST 2017
Build number: NRD90M.G950USQU1AQDE
Can someone please suggest me a stock rom to flash using ODIN so that I get OTA updates?
Thanks
If you want att fw, the QF7 fw has been posted here (search my posts). There's an update after that that'll come OTA after install.
If you want unlocked go to updato.com and search for g950u1 fw. XAA is the no carrier bloat version you want.
Thanks

Just wanted to check that everything else like samsungPay, bixby will work after flashing any of the above fws? Can I try flashing QF7 AT&T firmware first and later flash XAA from updato.com?
Another quick question. Since I am using T-mobile sim in my phone, can I flash T-mobile firmware and would get OTA updates from T-mobile for future updates. Would I be able to use wifi calling too?
Thanks

If you use T-Mobile just re-brand you phone to t-mobile. Download last t-Mobile firmware and flash with Odin 3.12.5 . There is place for user_data and in csc put home_csc to re-brand.

I was successfully able to flash the QF7 firmware downloaded from updato.com. I am currently on QF7 android 7.0 June 1, 2017 Android security patch level. I tried to check for software updates from phone settings but it again says my phone is up to date which is not correct. Can I simply download the latest available baseband and flash it or it has to be the immediate next release after QF7.

Thank you. I am all set now.
I actually have the same question which i sorta asked here in this thread..
I have the SM-G950U1 phone.. it needs branded with att apps since its unlocked to enable HD Voice to enable s3 frontier numbersync, or so the rep says.. they recommended going to best buy to get flashed, but if i can do it at home all the better.. however most of what i read here is a little greek to me for now..
Do i want one of the firmwares from updato here (dec 2017)? Do i just install Odin on a pc and connect the phone to the pc and point it to the file? I assume it wipes the phone correct? Does it lose its unlocked status in doing so?

Probably you want to downgrade the bootlader. If the firmware is A310FXXU2**** you can't downgrade. If the firmware is A310FXXU3**** you can downgrade. https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-a3-/SM-A310F/SER/download/A310FXXU3BQD2/132023/

Probably you want to downgrade the bootlader. If the firmware is A310FXXU2**** you can't downgrade. If the firmware is A310FXXU3**** you can downgrade.

You can downgrade a firmware is the firmware has U3 bootloader. For example A310FXXu3CQI2. If the firmware is A310FXXu2**** you can't downgrade.

Hello i have a samsung galaxy s9-g960f with binary 17 i think, odin says device 17 binary 2 (or whatever i want to flash). Is there any way to downgrade it to binary u2?
Samsung's downgrade lock is an insult to users. The blatant destruction of the device is a mockery of the user's intelligence and an abandonment of Samsung's reputation.
Good News Guys >>>>Official T-Mobile Galaxy J7 Android 7.1.1 Nougat update released
We reported recently that the Galaxy J7 might soon receive the Nougat update. The handset was spotted at the Wi-Fi Alliance running a Nougat build. It was a big indication that the company was planning on rolling out the update soon.
T-Mobile has now started rolling out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for the Galaxy J7. It’s one of the few devices that Samsung has updated straight to version 7.1.1 from Marshmallow.
T-Mobile Galaxy J7 Android 7.1.1 Nougat Update
T-Mobile has started rolling out the Nougat update for the Galaxy J7 over-the-air. However, the company’s support document for this handset is all over the place. It assigns version number Android 6.0.1, Android 7.0 and Android 7.1.1 to one single firmware version, J700TUVU3BQI5.
This is obviously not possible. Clearly, there are clerical issues with the document. That doesn’t mean the T-Mobile Galaxy J7 Android 7.1.1 Nougat update isn’t rolling out. Those who own this handset on T-Mobile will soon receive an update notification if they haven’t already.
This firmware is also available for download from our firmware section where the Android version is accurately mentioned as Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Despite the fact that this update has been released in October, it comes with the August security patch.
Galaxy J7 owners on T-Mobile can either wait for the update to go live in their region or simply download the firmware from our website.
Download 7.1.1 here and happy flashing J700TUVU3BQI5 - Galaxy J7 SM-J700T TMB USA (T-Mobile)

Tmobile received the update from samsung on 8/28. They filled it with their garbage and sent it last thursday, most of us flashed aqf1 stock and got it ota friday morning.i dont see any clerical errors or anything like that at all. And ive been digging through the build for a week. Im running it now. All internation j7 roms flash with this builds kernel, but reboot in the setup wiz, so once we get a good base there will be a ton of ports in this community. Also, we have found, edge screen, blf, high performance mode, and aod hidden but inactive in the phone. This build is something amazing folks.
Btw, sammobile is a useless, slow dinosaur. Updato via playstore is the best source for firmware.

Safe to flash through TWRP while rooted with xposed? Or should I disable xposed and uninstall root? Also, should I wipe when flashing or does it matter

U cannot in any capacity flash a stock firmware with twrp.u have to wipe your whole phone and go to download mode and flash the firmware via odin. Dont forget to unzip the file first so u have the unzipped form of it loaded in the ap slot
Aight I'm chill (no way at all to update without wiping my phone?) Like what if I don't wipe and flash in odin; will that lead to problems?

Use the U4 one
What I did is changing the indian stock firmware (3.1 Gb) to the Moroccan firmware (2.7 Gb) without root. Through Odin.
Apart from the Netflix app ( can be disabled) I didn't find any other bloatwares
I used adb's pm uninstall -k method to remove some built in mini system applications like Facebook manager, print services etc
Results = fully debloated without root access and without losing warranty or updates.

Thanks mate, i had problems trying to root, so after changing Csc , I decided that i will wait until they release the Android 10 on June 2020 (Samsung said that in the Samsung members App) I can't wait to experience OneUi 2 on this phone, then I will root inevitably ?
I'm so interested in lineage os too, I've used it before with good results, but unfortunately the A20 is not supported yet.
Have a great day
