[SOLVED] Can't quite reset to stock

I've tried to reset my A500 to stock a number of ways and flashed a number of update.zip's (the latest here). In each case it appears that data isn't being cleared and I get constant FCs so I can't get into settings to do a factory reset. Because of the FCs, I can't get CWM back on and therefor I can't format/wipe data that way.
What approach could I use then to clear data so I can get rid of these FC's?
I can't install CWM via ADB because "Development" isn't checked and I can't get through the UI to enable it. I tried flashing the update-recovery-thor2002ro-rev1.*.zip using power+volDown and got the triangle+exclamation.
I imagine for the same reason, I cannot flash any other 3rd party ROMs (for the hopes one would wipe data).
I'm all out of ideas and need advice. I suspect I need a signed update.zip that would wipe data.
Thanks to this post, I was able to clear data without CWM, ADB, or a working ROM.
Here's a YouTube video (from Acer) on how to do this. "Locked" is to the left when the tablet is landscape, facing you, volume on the top left.
Still waiting for it to move from "Erasing cache..." to find out if this resolves my larger issue, but at least it's progress.

factory reset/cyanogenmod

I installed Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my Xperia Arc S. Then installed Google Apps from CM because I needed it, but found out it installs way more google apps than I am comfortable with and tried to get rid of it ever since:
I tried a factory reset via the privacy settings, I tried the data wipe/factory reset via the bootloader menu, I erased all data via the USB connection and re-installed CM -- no success, Google Apps is still there.
I tried hard resetting the phone pressing back and menu buttons and then powering on the phone, but it only boots normally.
Any ideas how I can remove the google apps?`
I'm sure reflashing the kernel and rom will return you to square one, and from there, try installing what you need.

[Q] "Unfortunately, settings has stopped working" after factory reset

Hello folks,
The SGH-i337 is my first android device and I've had it only for a few days now. I rooted the phone using the "1 click root and debloat" files in the development section of this forum. Everything worked great after that. Today I installed an unofficial apk on my phone but I wasn't comfortable with it at all. So I did a factory reset (are you not supposed to do that?)
After the factory reset, the phone boots up and gives me the usual settings menu. At the end of the settings however, it lags for a few seconds before it says "Unfortunately, settings has stopped working". This brings me back to the "choose a device name" menu in settings. If I fill it out again and go through settings, it crashes again. I can't get into anything else on the phone since it keeps going through the initial setup.
I've tried booting into recovery mode and deleting the cache. I doubt that this clears it since the phone gives me an error and reboots. I tried selecting factory reset through the recovery mode but that also gave me the same issue (said error and rebooted).
After some searching I've found that flashing a stock rom with odin might be the best way to go. Is that correct or is there a better way? On the odin download page, it only lists the 9505 version for Galaxy S4. Could I use that for my SGH-i337?
I think the phone is still rooted because it says Samsung Custom before booting up. Thanks for the help!
Had same exact issue as well.
I booted in to download mode and flashed it with factory rom, then installed CWM.

Oh man, you're a life saver. I'm downloading the file and I'll give it a shot. So just to confirm, I put the phone into download mode and run Run_Me.bat and that should fix the issue?
Also for future reference, are you not supposed to do a factory reset after rooting your phone? Thanks!
Fixed it
The issue arose because the settings program was supposed to follow up with at&t locker setup. But since I had deleted the at&t files with the debloat tool, it kept crashing. So the solution was to reset the phone to stock firmware. I used Odin 3.07 to flash the factory ROM onto the phone and now everything is back to normal.
I guess this also answers my previous question, if I'd probably have the same problem again if I do a factory reset.

Just dont use all in one tool as you did before. Just use the chooper rooting process in the link I provided.
Then manually remove the apps you dont with titanium backup.

[Q] Factory Reset on an Encrypted Device Unsuccessful [now solved]

A few little things were acting up on my phone, so I decided to reflash and start anew. The only big hiccup is that my phone was encrypted.
Through TWRP, I have performed a Factory Reset, which was unsuccessful. I then went through Format Data to remove the encryption:
Format Data will wipe all of your apps, backups, pictures, videos, media, and removes encryption on internal storage. This cannot be undone. Press back to cancel. Type yes to continue.

This unfortunately did not do a thing, even after rebooting recovery before I flashed the rom. I am prompted for my encryption password during pre-boot. I've tried various backups that I still have (including the original from when I got my device); sometimes the password is accepted, other times I am prompted to continuously try again. When the password is accepted, I am stuck with a blank screen; after a few seconds, my phone vibrates once, then after a few seconds more, it vibrates multiple times, like when an app crashes. These restores do apply; the boot animations and Samsung logo change based on which backup I tried.
As long as I can get to a state where I can flash new roms and boot without the encryption prompt, I don't mind having to root again, losing internal data (which should've happened above), or having to reconfigure everything (that's half the fun).
adb and TWRP are still functional. I'm downloading the stock recovery and factory images to give them a try as well, though the download is crawling and it will be some time before I can test it.
Has anyone else successfully solved this?
Edit: Solved.Flashed all factory images, performed a factory reset, re-rooted, set up TWRP again, and got back to a current rom. For anyone else who runs into this in the future, I had to use the stock recovery, not CWM or TWRP, to successfully wipe my device.

[Q] Unfortunately, Settings has stopped.

I'm a root user, Titanium Backup installed and that's the second time i flash Android 5.0 and after a while i got this error. Tried factory reset, wipe data, wipe cache/dalvik and didn't worked out.
Tried entering in Safe Mode and the error is persistent.
Is there something i can do?
I'm using GalaxyS4 Settings for Froyo~JB (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ion.setting) and with it i'm able to got into some of my settings, but the stock app doesn't work by itself.
Is there some way of flashing the stock Settings app again?
Another weird thing is that my SPen does not take screenshots anymore and that only happens with Android L (5.0).
