OnGuard Protection Plan - 1+3 - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good afternoon,
I was hoping for a few opinions on the OnGuard warranty you are able to purchase for OnePlus devices.
For those who have used the service, what was your experience?
Paying $80 for 2yr "protection" including accidental with a $75 deductible does seem hefty and I am quite cautious with my devices but $150 is better than $400 to replace. Hoping for first hand experiences with the warranty service to help sway me one way or another. Thanks for taking the time to read this and/or respond.
- Mike

Insurance for the Nexus 4?

Just thinking, I'm not too worried about defects, Google will replace it for that. But reading about the nexus 4s slickness, and people dropping them makes me realize stuff happens. This is why I have insurance on my at&t account, but obviously that isn't going to mean much with a non at&t phone. Any third party companies that offer it?

Squaretrade is ridiculously overpriced given the cost of the n4 and the deductible they charge. Plus they offer cheaper coverage for iPhones which is irritating. Not recommended. If others have found reasonable insurance, I'd be interested.

$125 for two years with a $99 deductible?
My current plan through T-mobile is $6 a month with a $130 decuctible. What are you used to paying?

I think it's crap that I can't just pay $30 from square trade for a service plan with accidental coverage. Oh it's a phone. That means you need insurance and not a service plan. Who decides this crap? I got a service plan from square trade when I bought my HTC Flyer and it was $30, and what is a flyer? An oversized Desire HD!
I remember you used to be able to buy a service plan from best buy for a phone if you bought it from them, and now they have bend over and spread em insurance too! Really who decides this crap? Cell phones are pretty much in a class of their own with consumer electronics.
I guess I'll just go insurance free

I'm with you. Unless squaretrade recognizes their ridiculousness and adjusts their pricing plans accordingly. I'll not be holding my breath.

bumping this in hopes that it gets some action.
i think i am going to get squaretrade before my 30 days are up. one of the things i like is you can cancel at any time and be refunded the rest of your money. or cancel and stop paying your seven bucks a month. you can also transfer it with the phone if you sell it and want to use the insurance as a perk.
has anyone else found anything better?
i just noted in a previous post that my phone just dropped 18" onto a rug with the bumper on and now my glass creaks. its only a matter of time i feel before something worse happens. and who knows... maybe google and lg will start building these things a bit better and with insurance we can swap it out.
I just think it's crap I can get a square trade warranty on a tablet for $30 that doesn't have a monthly fee and offers the exact same coverage but because the device is deemed small enough to be a phone I gotta pay a monthly fee

i completely agree. i wish some hardware replacements would start hitting the market. if i could price out the replacement parts i could weight out the pricing better. but i dont want to go past my 30 days and be forced into buying the parts from the internet when they could very well be pricier.
Check the threads were people have sent their phones back for repair. I'd rather save my money then send it back to LG for repair, if there is something that needs repair. One post I read said it was going to cost $140 to repair the cracked glass. Another one was $153. So paying someone $125 for 2 years and $99 deductible seems like its not worth it. The cost for a one time repair would have to exceed $224 to make it worth it.
This is what I got. Square trade $79.99 for 2 years and a $50 deductible.

I agree. Paying $125 on the chance that I break it and then have to pay another $99, for a total of $224, on a phone I bought for $300, doesn't seem quite worth it.
Of course, that's if it only breaks once. My wife is murder on phones, so figure that she breaks hers, say, three times in two years and that's $125 + $99 x 3 = $422. But then, if LG will repair it for about $150, then those three times only cost me $450, so the difference is still pretty negligible.
I'm going to get us both the Ballistic cases when they are released in a few weeks and hope for the best.

I got Square Trade. They are having a 35% off sale until December 26th.
Transmission sent from my badass Nexus 4.
I've had mixed experiences with Squaretrade. My biggest complaint is that they send your device to a repair depot that can take over a week to fix. In addition, if the repairs exceed the cost of the phone, they keep it.
Also, the last time I used them, they wanted my SIM card (I was having SIM identification problems). I personally refuse to send an active SIM card through the mail. They said that all of their customers are fine with it?
Anyways, I personally don't think it's cost effective to buy insurance for a cell phone at $299-$349. Just keep money aside if it breaks or is lost/stolen.
I'd like to know if any one has used these guys.
http://www.worthavegroup.com/cell-phone-insurance
on paper it seems like a good deal and good coverage... but I'd like to hear some stories about claims being a hassle or not.
I'm content with using SquareTrade as an "Insurance" for my Nexus 4.
SquareTrade: $125+$99=$224 (They even cover shipping)
Buying New Replacement: $349+Shipping
Plus with buying new, you have to take into consideration that the Nexus 4 is nearly impossible to get right now.
So you could be stuck without a phone for months, where with SquareTrade you get one quickly.
And "Part Replacement" is pointless IMO. You might crack the screen, spend $150 for a new screen. But what if you do more damage than just the screen.. more parts to buy
But that's just me. Plus if the phone is not repairable. They give you the full retail cost of the phone at time of purchase.
$79 Plan from SquareTrade the Indian guy from the SquareTrade Customer Service said the Nexus 4 is covered under this plan.
Or $99 Plan from SquareTrade will cover it too, (in case you don't want to take the chance that the $79 plan does not cover it.)

Sprint TEP insurance vs Geek Squad vs Squaretrade

I'm trying to figure out where to purchase my S4 for Sprint (Best Buy or Sprint). Insurance is my main concern, since sprint increased the monthly to $11 and deductible is possibly going to be $200 for incidentals. I say $200 because that's what the Note2 is currently.
Some of the things i noticed about Squaretrade and Geek Squad is they don't cover loss of phone, but do cover other incidentals. I'm not too worried about loss, more for crack screens.
Which insurance are you guys thinking of? I'm leaning towards GS or Squaretrade since the sprint TEP doesnt seem worth it with the high deductible.

That may help...

Just throwing this link up here. I found this being discussed in another thread a probably 5 or 6 months back. I bookmarked the link, but havent really looked into it myself (or any other insurance programs for that matter).

Worth Ave. Group cell phone Insurance policies provide replacement cost coverage for a full calendar year, paid with an annual premium.
Each policy covers the cell phone for Accidental Damage such as drops and spills as well as Theft, Fire, Flood, Natural Disasters and Lightning Strikes. With a low $0 deductible and premiums starting as little as under $4 a month, this policy accommodates every budget. We cover NEW, USED and REFURBISHED devices.

I ordered mine from Tigerdirect.com and picked up the insurance from them. $6.99/mo or $70/yr covers three full replacements per year with no deductible. covers damage, spills, theft, loss, etc
I saw that newegg is offering similar. Down side is that I'm having to wait due to the delays in stock.

What Insurance Do You Use?

This is my first no-contract unlocked phone. This is a very beautiful device and I would like to keep it that way but even though I baby it I know I am prone to unfortunate circumstances. I'm just curious what everybody is using for insurance and there past experience with it. I would like to know the company you chose, why you chose them, your deductible, and how long it took you to receive your replacement phone. Thanks in advance. This information will help me greatly.
No insurance for me. They charge too much, too high deductibles, replacement phone is usually refurbished garbage if you even get the same phone. No thanks, I'll pass...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I agree insurance is pure waste of money. For 300 bucks just buy a new one. Deductibles are usually 150 to 200 anyway. And like was mentioned before you will get a refurbished device not a new one.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I don't have insurance either, but I've heard that Squaretrade is quite good. I did some comparison shopping once and found their prices to be quite good. You can usually get a 20-30% discount code. Do a search for "squaretrade" on slickdeals.
"Free" insurance with my bank account, costs £12/month for the account but I get free Lovefilm, 5 hmv track downloads per month, mobile insurance for 2 phones (up to £700 worth) and a couple of things...
£70 excess though... still, better than buying a new phone.
From the Nexus 4000
If you aren't living paycheck to paycheck, it makes the most sense to pay for this yourself. If the large cost of replacement scares you, just put the amount you would have spent on the warranty (for TVs, phones, etc) in a special account, and pay for repairs and replacements out of that. In 10 years, you'll very likely come out ahead.
A prominent financial person I heard once said to never insure something you can afford to replace yourself. Since this means different things to different people it seems appropriate.

Agreed. Insurance should be based on actual need, rather than fear and emotion, which is used to sell it. Still, if it's already included as a service through AMEX or the sort, take advantage of extended warranty provisions they offer.
Thanks everybody for your feedback..but is there anybody with insurance that would like to share??..
This is not a car or a house where replacement/repairs could gobble up a huge chunk of your income and/or savings.
At least in Canada, insuring something like a phone or a laptop really is not worth it. The retail store workers (especially Best Buy) love to try to force it on you and you practically have to yell at them to shut up about that "offer".

idgaf about what other people say...i get insurance when i can for my electronics...
i have Squaretrade, with the monthly fee of less than $7US it's worth it to me...figuring when i had my phone insurance with Sprint it was $8 a month and that seems to be the average rate...
And..I love the Squaretrade customer service, they always seem to be in a good mood and very helpful.

Best Buy Protection, SquareTrade Protection, or Asurion Protection?

Hey guys, I am planning on upgrading to the GS4 next week and am contemplating on where to purchase the device. The location I purchase it is going to be based on the warranty I get. Best Buy has no deductible while Asurion and Square Trade both have deductibles. Has anyone had any experience with filing a claim with either of the companies and/or recommend one over another? Thanks.

Asurion is god awful and you'll have to pay 150-200 (lost my S3 three times) each time.
Square trade is awesome with is extra accidental coverage, one time payment plus there's almost always a nice discount code online to save a bunch. I smashed my tablets screen dropping it and I had the bootloader unlocked with is permanent with Asus and voids the manufacturer warranty but they still ended up replacing it.
Don't know about Best Buy though, have heard it's good though. Definitely recommend SquareTrade though!
dit: And SquareTrade doesn't have a deductible? I'm pretty sure.
EDIT: Never mind lol, there isn't a deductible on tablets but there is on the phones xD Still great though!

Thanks for you reply. Yeah, I thought Square Trade had a deductible. I actually have used Square Trade in the past, and luckily have never had to file a claim. I like the fact that with Best Buy, I can just go into the store. I'm pretty good about not misplacing my phone, so I'm not worried about the lost/stolen feature. I am leaning towards the Best Buy insurance, but I have read mixed reviews on the service/insurance through Best Buy. Some say they are given a hard time when they take their device in, while others say that best buy takes the device and ships it out right away to get fixed.
And Best Buy gives you a loaner while your phone gets fixed. But the lost or stolen part blows. But still leap years better than asurion.

Why not insurance through Sprint?
I thinks its 7 bucks a month and covers theft, lost and damage.
im in the same boat as you although i already purchased my phone @ Radioshack so its between squaretrade or sprint.

I have used asurion on my Sprint phones and Att phones. In the first 6 months nothing IMO beats asurion.
I rarely keep a device longer than that anyway. It is good to know that if I lose one it is covered for a much smaller cost than buying as replacement. I have had to use my insurance twice after someone else broke my phone, process to file a claim was quick and easy and my replacement arrived next day. I have had an instance where quality of the replacement was below my standards and was sent a suitable replacement.
I have also had Bestbuy insurance and it was OK...just had bad experiences with poorly trained stores, had to wait a few days to two weeks [I hear they have improved that] and now don't buy phones there so not really an option

Best buy is the best. No deductible infinite replacements. And it's a $1 cheaper a month than Assurion. Assurion is $150 deductible and only 3 replacements a year even though you have to pay that much.

Handset Insurance

Seeing as how I, (like many others on here) plan on purchasing/have purchased the VZW GN3 for full retail, how many are considering purchasing insurance for the handset? If so, SquareTrade, VZW $8/month, covered under a home insurance clause, etc. What will you be using and how much are you paying? I'd like the peace of mind knowing that incidental damage/theft/water damage will be fully covered and though I'll have a screen protector, I'll likely use it naked as I like its body lines and don't want to add ANY bulk to an already hefty sized phone.
Any input is highly suggested and welcomed! Thanks guys!

I am probably going with the Asurion option through Verizon. $5.18 a month and covers loss/theft/damage with a $99 deductible.
Square Trade all the way! They were awesome when I dropped my Note 2--had a new one in my hand in 24 hours (with no fees).

So it seems that:
#1: SquareTrade - Yearly fee and no deductible?
#2: Asurion - I was told by a rep this morning when I picked up my SGN3 was $10/month (they raised it from $8/month) and a $100 deductible.
VZW has 3 Asurion options - $5.18, $8 & $10
My wife has the $5.18 for her Droid DNA
I have the $8 for my SGN3 - still not completely sure of the difference.

I'm going to purchase my plan through Worth Ave, still doing some research but it seems like the best deal/coverage so far. If you can make the College Plus plan work somehow then it gets even better. I'm cautious to post more because I posted looking for some feedback about 3 weeks ago and a few people were cautious of my excitement of what I thought was a good find....
